Thought that I’d try a new author, but was disappointed. Whilst there are complications in the plot, they’re solved in an instant. There’s no real development or depth to characters; their actions are predictable. The text lacks vivid description - of setting, characters, narrative, . . . It’s bland.
If you’re looking to read something that traps you inside its world and grabs at your emotions and imagination, my recommendation is that you try Anthony Ryan or Mark Lawrence.
Questions! Questions! What an exciting tale! Myra moves quickly from one adventure to the next, meeting interesting and intriguing characters along the way. Colin's terse writing style makes it a fast paced journey as we careen through the novel with Myra. In this fast paced novel we are left with many questions. Whom should she trust? To whom should she give her allegiance? Who is the soft spoken Kelwan? Colin has left us WANTING to read Part 2 of The Gathering. Bring it on!
