Prompts for reading challenges: subtitle, book in a series you already started, favorite author, urban fantasy, dystopian fiction, YA fiction, red cover, has a pet as a character, a found family, war that isn't WWI/WWI, survival story, refugee, science fiction, banned book, secrets, audiobook. ISBN has 1/5/0. Multiple authors, secrets, misdirection.
I enjoy the narrator for both the first book, and this second book in this new series. However, when the narrator did the voice for Tanning (sp?), one of the characters in this book, their voice went VERY low, and was difficult to hear and understand. Otherwise, the audiobook is well done. But those moments were frustrating as I had to adjust the volume up and down just so I could understand and hear what that character was saying.
I loved the Maximum Ride books (both iterations, back in the day). And I enjoyed the first book in Hawk's story. This one was just not holding my interest the way the other books did. I don't see myself bothering with a third book if the series continues. I'm glad I listened to it, but it really almost seemed like retelling the same story as the first book, just with different characters, in many ways. Bit of a letdown, honestly.
