*This series takes place after the end of the Asarlaí Wars and it is strongly recommended to be read after Defiant Ruin.

Vaslisha Tor Dain had a simple life as a mercenary captain. Then a bunch of murdering Asarlaí stepped up and made things messy.
After a long recovery, she and most of her crew are ready to return to a nice, normal mercenary life of fighting where they are paid to fight instead of trying to save the Commonwealth.
Things start to go off course when a mysterious ship comes far too close to her secret home planet. A ship that’s been missing for over fifty years.
Then invaders from outside the Commonwealth show way too much interest in Vas and her crew—the type of interest that leads to death.
The crew finally gets a job and undercover one outside the Commonwealth. Simple. Just find who has been stealing cargo from a major Commonwealth firm, get paid a lot of money, and come back.
Things are never simple. Now Vas has to deal with pirates, murderers, long dead nuns, and an invasion that looks to be heading for the Commonwealth.
This time the Commonwealth alone isn’t at risk—the entire Universe is.

Marie is a fantasy and science fiction reader with a serious writing addiction, and a few awards to go with it. If she wasn't writing about all the people in her head, she'd be lurking about coffee shops annoying total strangers with her stories. So really, writing is a way of saving the masses. Her fantasy series, The Lost Ancients, starts with The Glass Gargoyle. The entire six book, Lost Ancient series is complete for binge time!

There is also a completed space opera trilogy, with Warrior Wench, Victorious Dead, and Defiant Ruin. Vas and her crew of mercs launched a new series with Traitor's Folly which is also now complete.

A Curious Invasion-- a steampunk-is out and has two more books out as well. Vampires, mermaids, pharaohs, and TEA!

Essence of Chaos is the first book in a completed epic fantasy trilogy.

The Girl with the Iron Wing is a thriller/Urban Fantasy, and the first book in the Broken Veils series. The trilogy is now completed.

A trio of sisters is represented facing their biggest challenges in the Magic & Sorcery Chronicles--a clean romantasy trilogy.

A new paranormal cozy mystery fantasy series launches with Mischief in a Bottle.

More new books, series, and adventures coming in 2026!

When not saving the masses from coffee shop shenanigans, Marie likes to visit the UK and keeps hoping someone will give her a nice summer home in the Forest of Dean or northern Wales.

Well this was slightly very disappointing, thank you very much. I'm not sure why Marie Andreas decided to write this book when it adds absolutely nothing to the previous trilogy. Then again, she left so many questions hanging in Defiant Ruin and there were so many plots holes in the story that she might have felt the need to give us some answers. Which we didn't really get here, but whatever and stuff 🙄.

It's not that this book is bad BAD, it's just that it doesn't live up to the ones that came before it. The first half of the book is packed with confusing as fish info-dumping and bad exposition. In other words, it's a pain to get through 💤💤. There's plenty of action in the second half, yes, but way too much traveling through space like headless chickens involved (I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone subject to space motion sickness).

On a more positive note, I am happy to announce I have acquired an alien girlfriend with an orange feather mohawk. Also, nothing beats warrior nuns in space. And that is a scientifically proven fact.

That's not exactly what I had in mind but yeah, sure, whatever.

Oh, and by the way, don't let the book cover from hell fool you: no, this is not the latest installment in the Ice Planet Barbarians series. Quite welcome you are.

And that is all for now 👋👋.

📚 Vaslisha Tor Dain series:
1 · Warrior Wench (The Asarlaí Wars #2) ★★★★
2 · Victorious Dead (The Asarlaí Wars #2) ★★★★
3 · Defiant Ruin (The Asarlaí Wars, #3) ★★★★
4 · Traitor's Folly (The Code of the Keepers, #1) ★★★
5 · Destroyer's Curse (The Code of the Keepers, #2) ★★
6 · The Code of the Keepers, #3 · NOT to be read, thank you very much.

Not one of my favorite Vas and Deven books. It had a feeling of being systematic and not encourged by desire to be written, but more so a job to be done with. Blowing up planets and moons has become as common place as kicking in doors. Overkill with "rest and food", and system jumping. And what's up with always having to have a "god-like" character?

This should have ended with The Asarlaí Wars and not expanded to The Code of the Keepers. There was plenty of opportunity to tie up all the loose ends. I'll still finish up this series, and I'm very eager to read some of Marie Andreas's other books.

Excellent sci fi adventure

If you have not read the Asarlai War series, please do so before reading Traitor's Folly. The characters and their relationships were formed a great deal by the events in the first series. And that series is just plain awesome; I reread it a couple weeks ago to get ready for this book. The world building is great, the aliens are believable and fantastic, the story is twisty and thrilling, and I didn't want to reach the end but couldn't stop flipping the pages. I'm so excited about these new adventures.

Why do all these books have to end in some kind of cliffhanger??! And not even the lazy kind of cliffhanger of "will the crew and Vas manage to save the universe" but more along the lines of "captain! our ship just went boom, your boyfriend is bleeding out and we were kidnapped!" kind of problems.

Anyway, I am still not always sure what's happening around, mostly just follow the main goals =D and watch them do stupid or awesome stuff. Some review said there were too many "close calls" but dunno, I feel that's totally legitimate part of sci-fi? Don't you know all those rules of action? Especially when it's like a long serial/film/book series? The main characters are practically indestructible and recover from any injury, practically get raised from dead all the while saying they're okay but someone sneezes at the lowly grunt beside them and they're gone. That's part of the fun! Escaping unreal situations because they're clever and skilled and SO LUCKY.

Anyway, I am bumped there is not more and have no idea where is going to be more but tat least I am not going to binge the whole 6 books.

Still not sure how much I am enjoying this... still recommend =D.

I really enjoyed the Asarlai Wars series and The Code of the Keepers books start right after that series. I was happy to catch up with Vas, Deven and their crew. This time they encounter some mysterious people that have been frozen for 50 years, are attacked by aliens from outside the Commonwealth, then offered a job outside the Commonwealth where they have to go undercover as pirates and they purchase a new ship to go along with the ruse. Of course, things don’t go smoothly, and they have one problem after another. As time goes on, they realize there is much more at risk than just the Commonwealth, and there are some really deadly opponents out there that they will soon have to face. I really love this crew and the story had plenty of action, danger, mystery, and strange happenings that kept the story moving along. I look forward to reading the next book in the series to find out what happens next.

I very much enjoy the space opera books from Marie, and this one is right in there. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars bc it felt quite rushed and lot of “by the skin of my teeth” moments (fixed it just in time/got off the planet just in time/survived a medical condition just barely). It seem quite predictable in that nothing would go right, someone’s always going to betray someone else, and something is always going to go wrong. I really did like the world building and would love for a deeper look into a lot of the scenes. Especially when Deven uses his physic abilities.

Vashila tor Dain and Deven recover from near death and have a few months rest. Her crew grows antsy and in need of action. They get a job that requires getting a different ship and for them to cosplay as pirates. Aithnea has not been able to travel on and is still stuck with the rest of the numbs in a different plane of existence and need Vas to do things to let them move on. As usual things get hairy and what was thought to be easy is anything but as they loose another ship.

Looks like Vas' life keeps getting Crazier.

Very Fun read. I read some reviews were people thought it was jumpy and confusing so I highly recommend reading the Warrior Wench series first.

This was a lot of fun to read, and I am looking forward to continuing the journey with Vas and her Crew to see what's next.

Well, I'm a bit disappointed...

I really liked the book, yup, it just wasn't really what I was hoping for.

I absolutely adored the Asarlai Wars series, and I was kind of wanting more of that, and well, this one isn't that.

Still, it's definitely worth reading. Yes, read the previous books first, but this one is fun as well and worth trying.

This is a high octane, action packed book! The Captain has a ton of sass and guts to go with it. I do feel like they could be the most unlucky crew in the world at times. Lol! There is a ton of adventure, lots of twists and many unexpected turns! I can't wait for the next one to come out!

I meet old friends again.
A great addition and continuation to the Asarlai War books.

It did not disappoint and I am looking forward to the development of Valisha's abilities as well as the old and new characters. Great main plot with an abundance of supporting sub-plots.

A wonderful addition to the series.

The characters are fantastic. The world building is superb. The plot is twisty. The story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so have the next book cued up before reading.

Vas to the rescue

Never a dull moment for our heroes. And once again Pauline is hanging by a thread. Love this series and can't wait for the next installment!
