Walker Lawson had me before he even knew my name and he knew it. Reveled in it.

I left home to tour the world with a rock band.
I was out of my comfort zone and rolling through the lifestyle with a deep-seated need to find my own independence.
To prove to myself that I was capable of finding my own way.
To prove that I was more than a burden.

Keep my head down.
Focus on my health.
Those were my only two goals.

And then eyes the color of a brewing storm met mine.

Johnnie Walker Lawson.
Famous Drummer.
Sexy Rock Star.
Quiet, pensive, brooding—he was the opposite of everything I thought he would be.
Opposite of everything I thought he could be.

I hadn’t been prepared for him. For just how far he would go to catch my attention and keep it.

But now that he had it—had me—I was terrified of losing him along with everything else I’d gained. He was quickly becoming everything I could have ever wanted. Everything I had been searching for.

Secrets have a way of burrowing themselves inside you. But they never stay quiet.
They’ll come crawling their way out no matter what you do or what you have to lose.

Warning: For Readers 18 years and older. Contains explicit sexual situations and language.

This story reads differently. I can’t find the correct word for it, maybe atmospheric or ethereal? That’s not to say I didn’t like it, it simply disrupted the flow of the story at times.

Even in saying that, Walker is hands down one of the BEST men I’ve read in a long time. He is massive in size, quiet, broody, possessive, intense, ridiculously sexy, and a drummer with a passion for family. He is also the only rock star I’ve read in awhile that hasn’t slept with thousands of groupies.
And then there was Walker. He took my breath away. All that raw masculine power exploding out from his center as he used every shred of himself to hammer into the drums.
This love story is insta-love/attraction but I couldn’t figure out why exactly Walker is attracted to Shy. She’s cute, tiny, and looks like someone he’s known from his past. (Although he does dismiss that in the end.) I wanted to understand why he wanted her so badly. Maybe his overly protective nature felt her vulnerability and reacted to that?

Walker is INTENSE in what he feels for Shy. It does take some time but phew, it’s SMOKIN when they finally come together.
“Where do yourself in five year?” I asked breathlessly as he growled, finding the thong of my underwear and running his fingers down slowly, tracing it. “Inside you, woman. I’ll be deep inside you.”
Holy hell dude, that’s one perfect answer.

Shy is the only heroine that I’ve read who has Crohn’s Disease. I felt Shy’s pain, insecurities and fears in living with this disease. When is the right time to tell someone what you’re dealing with? How do you explain something that can change moment to moment? What happens if your bowels disagree and you’re out in public?!

Walker had an intense need to understand what Shy is going through and how to properly care for her. What a seriously amazing man!
I would find that man that would accept me and every bit of scary baggage I carried. He would be good, kind, and supportive. He would be my superman. But superman was not a rock star.
Or….maybe he is!

The side characters, including Shy’s parents are pretty great. I had a difficult time getting to like Mavis, but by the end, she was one of my favorite characters. She has so much potential, in both her musical and personal life.

I can’t wait for Jameson’s story. He’s a somewhat reformed manwhore at the end of this book, but I have a feeling he’ll be quite a leading man for the right woman...

I ended this story feeling a bit conflicted because my main quibble was with the writing style. I’ve read sci-fi books by this author and I don’t recall her writing feeling so lyrical or prosey, I’m not sure how to describe it. So while the h and H were interesting and had an intense connection and I enjoyed reading about a rocker who wasn’t about that groupie life, I couldn’t connect the way I wished for while reading.

Walker (H) is a drummer in a famous band who also has a slightly dangerous feel since he was in prison for a time. Shy (h) is the niece of the band’s manager and is assisting her uncle for a job. She’s living with Crohn’s disease and wasn’t sure what to do with her life. Lots of scenes of rockers partying, music life, and also more serious scenes of Shy managing her illness and her fears related to that.

Written in first person, single POV of h. No ow/om drama, but h does get jealous a couple of times wondering if H is hooking up. She’s told by multiple people that’s not how he is and how focused he is on her. Neither were virgins, but no real info given on H and h had only one experience.

Side characters were mainly focused on family and those surrounding the band. I loved Shy’s uncle and her parents. She makes a best friend on the tour in Mavis, who was a little hard to get a read on early in her into but who was a great friend. The other band members were a mix of supportive and at times, assholes.

The main conflict was frustrating with how Walker pulled away during it and I wanted Shy to be stronger in the face of it I guess. The ending is a HEA with them dedicated to each other and married. The epilogue also has a hint for the next book.

Rain’s review really nails this one I think so I’m including the link - https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

In the final acknowledgements E.M. Raegan said this type of story was out of her wheelhouse. Well honey, welcome to your new wheelhouse. I wanted to live in this book. Seriously. Walker is that perfect combo of intense, terse, broody alpha male with a tender caring side. He and his bandmates are not typical rock stars and thank you for that. I fell in love with Shiloh (Shy) and her friend Mavis, they were so real and I related to Shy wanting independence and still wanting to not lose herself in the scene. Walker's pursuit of Shy was intense but slow building and it had such a bigger impact on allowing me to believe they were truly allowing themselves to be fully engaged in their time around each other. They were both protective of their secret fear of losing the other person because of hard things in their life, but it was believable and not dramatic. Their stuff they were dealing with does come with real consequences and some people may have bailed. So their feeling the need to make sure the other person was going to stick around made sense, not like an overblown created thing. Walker is a rockstar that isn't a manwhore, finally!!!!  Walker and Shy made me feel all the feels! Now I want so badly to delve into Mavis and Jameson (Walker's brother).

Hmm I feel like this book was just okay and that it could have been so much better.

To me the storyline was promising it just wasn't executed very well.

I think it would have really helped if we had Walker's POV. Because his character didn't talk much ( he's the quiet brooding type) it was hard to connect with him and you never really knew what he was thinking.
And I feel like the climax of this came and went so quickly, that it wasn't really a thing.

With that being said this is just my opinion.

And I'm actually really excited for the next book. I can't wait for Jameson ( and I hope Mavis) story!

I downloaded this from KU on a day when I was stuck in bed, feeling super sick from my autoimmune disease. Imagine my surprise, then, when the heroine of this book struggles with an autoimmune condition!

But then I started liking it less and less. Shy is pretty insufferable as a heroine and honestly, Walker isn’t that much better. He gets annoyed that she isn’t immediately giving him her medical information, so he calls her mom? This is not normal adult behavior. I also don’t get why Shy is so obsessively embarrassed about her disease. Like, what? You can’t control getting sick, why are you so embarrassed by it?

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This book was a sweet rockstar romance. Walker and Shy are incredible together. You can feel the emotions between them from the pages of their story. The secrets they kept because of insecurity. They both worried about losing what is precious to them. Once they trust in their love, things will all fall into place. I enjoyed all the characters in this story

Good Rock & Roll Reading

Good rock & roll reading. This was a very entertaining novel. The main male character certainly had some interesting traits, a very intense character. There were a number of elements that made this novel highly entertaining, not the least of which were the blend from moments of intense romance to great laughing moments, to intrigue, and to learning more about the impacts of having Crohn's disease. Good Stuff!!

Great book

This book was so much better then I thought it would be. I do love how she told you a little bit about each character that will be having their own story soon (like Jameson). The conflict resolving the way it did was quite different then other books and much more realistic when you think about mental health. A very good book for sure.

Nice story

I liked the relationship with Shy and Walker. It was developed real well and I liked that the guard was the one to remove the threat and that the guy got help. Most of the books go into all the security systems and guards and still the guy gets through them . Glad he was some use and now I'm waiting for the next one.

I’m on the fence in how to rate this book, really on how I felt about it. I liked it a lot but at the same time there could have been so much more to it that I ended up feeling like I was missing out.

I don’t really know how to explain my experience with this book. To start of I wasn’t that into the exposition and introduction of the story as well as characters. I found it a bit dragged out and containing too many tangents. At the same time though I did enjoy the premise of the story with Shy suffering from Chron’s disease (although sadly lacking information early on what that is and how it played a part in her health), her situation and her new and unique job. Later on meeting the band and stoic and intense Walker put the story right on track and moving on from a less ideal introduction.

While I liked Walker’s brooding and quite approach in the beginning, giving the story a more out of the ordinary kind of romance, it also bugged me a bit that it didn’t seem to take of much from there. It is difficult to build up a good characterization and relationship when one of the characters isn’t saying much and it really showed. The romance was kind of stuck trampling in water for a while with nothing happening other than intense looks and touches. As a matter of fact the whole relationship seemed to be built of of that giving me the impression that there wasn’t much else between them other than sexual tension.

It didn’t help that the story was lacking good depth and complexity, being more into tangents of Shy’s thoughts and insecurities or short briefings on what was happening in her life and relationship instead of showing it on page. It took a good while for the story to go a bit deeper and for me to finally see and experience the romance, both the good parts and in the ending the bad parts. For that alone the book was very addictive and the relationship finally having something I could really bite into. It just a shame that it took so long to finally get there.

I am indecisive on whether to give Walker three or four stars. That ending though, with everything happening as well as the introduction for the next book is what reluctantly makes me give it four stars. After all it was for the most part a good read despite all issues mentioned above.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
