This is how humanity will live its final years… Thousands of years into the future, the Earth is dying. The president of Zone One calls for mobilisation into the Cyberworld, a simulation which models the beauty of the 21st century. In it, are sentient humandroids designed to assist and live peacefully amongst humans. Consumed by his ambitions, the president fails to recognise that the virus L.U.C.Y. is living amongst these humandroids, a virus that can leech onto people’s addiction to the Cyberworld and erode the foundations of society. Elliott is a 15-year-old boy diagnosed with ADHD who joins the Resistance against the virus. He must learn to deal with pressure and misunderstandings and to manipulate impulsivity into spontaneity. They are the last soldiers of this world— a world living between death and corruption.
A thought-provoking story (but not to the point where you need to doublethink), a modernised take on Orwell’s 1984. Love the idea of visiting a simulation that “replicates the beauty of the 21st century” to get a semblance of normality, especially with travel restrictions during a global pandemic!
