Review of Lucifer’s Queen
By Roxie Ray & Skye Wilson
Unappealing Start, Somewhat Stronger Finish
Although this book is reportedly by Roxie Ray and another author I’ve never read before, Skye Wilson, it didn’t feel like a Roxie Ray book. It started with a lurid sex scene between Evie, aka Evelyn St. John or Lilith, and her husband, Luke Dawnstar, aka Lucifer or the devil. Most Roxie Ray books I’ve read (and if you’ve ever read any of my many reviews of “her” books, you’ll know that I love “her” writing style) have a story before any sexual scenes are described. I have read recently that “Roxie Ray” is actually a group of writers rather than an individual. So, I don’t know who has written the Roxie Ray books I’ve so enjoyed in the past, but I don’t think it was this collection of writers.
With that being said, I should also add that this is Book 2 of the “Married to the Devil” series. I haven’t read Lucifer’s Bride, which is Book 1, but I didn’t feel like I really needed to in order to understand anything that had gone before, plus there are descriptions of prior events sufficient to provide the background. However, it’s possible that the first book may have provided answers to some of the questions I was left with.
The things I didn’t like about the story:
1, It had way too many unnecessary sex scenes for my taste. I get why some sex scenes can contribute to a book, but it seemed to me that this book had sex every chapter and it was often repetitive and described in the crudest terms.
2. Why did the angels take the actions they did with respect to Evie? The actions were described, but they were never explained as to why.
3. The ending is a cliffhanger and you’ll have to purchase another book to (hopefully) get to the end of the story.
***** SPOILER AHEAD *****
4. The story ground to a rather not so happily ever after ending.
***** END SPOILER *****
Altogether, the best rating I can give this book is 2 stars.
