Paax never wanted to be matched to a mate.

The situation in his clan was dangerous for a hardened warrior, let alone a soft Human female without fangs or claws to defend herself. Sending her back to Earth was the only way to keep her safe. However, the moment the curvaceous woman stepped off the transporter, his tattoo burned with a passionate intensity he’d never experienced before. Paax knew he would do anything to protect her, to claim her, even challenge the clan’s violent Warlord. No force in the universe would take his mate from him.

Matched to an alien warrior in the Draft, Mercy swore she’d do whatever it took to get out of the marriage contract. She liked her life on Earth and her independence. No one would take it away, not even the ridiculously hot warrior who demanded she call him husband!

Why is being claimed by the horned muscular alien the only thing she can think about? She didn’t want to stay, did she?

Not available via Kindle Unlimited.
Hero is kind of a jerk in the 'absent-minded professor' way.
First thing he says to the heroine? "You're late"
She didn't stand up for herself much. Bit of a doormat.
Hero redeems in the end, but don't expect romance or smexy times.

This book didn't do anything for me.
Not recomended.

•Quick story. (A little too quick for my taste).
•I liked the alien idea. It was interesting to me. :)

This was a quick easy read. I was in the mood for a sexy sci fi romance and a friend recommended this which had the added bonus of being free. I didn't really expect too much as obviously with a shorter story there isn't always a lot of time for world building but I was pleasantly surprised. We get a very sympathetic heroine who was pragmatic and ready to do what she could. Then we meet the male who she is matched with and he's an absolute sweetie. Obviously in order to make the story interesting there has to be conflict of some sort and that comes in the shape of Paax's twin brother. Yet I couldn't help but feel a certain sadness which could perhaps had been addressed but unfortunately there wasn't really enough time. So in conclusion not a terrible book and it could well become an interesting series

Skip this one and move on to other War Brides series books

Ok so, in GENERAL Starr Huntress is a collaborative author project header basically that allows different authors to contribute to each series. Each individual series carries the same vein of plot throughout, but is written by different authors every couple books or so.
The Warlord Brides Series also includes the sub series of the Firosans (also about brides of the Mahdfel Species- which was awesome btw) on top of this Sangrin Series.
The books I have read so far have been excellent so, even though I didn't care too much for this particular book, I do recommend checking out others.
This one was completely monotonous with zero character development and lackluster world-building in an otherwise creative series. Our perfectly boring h arrives on Sangrin and is dropped off at her Mate's doorstep. The H is a scientist responsible for the DNA matching program (also a perfectly boring character with zero personality). His genetically altered a-hole brother wants the h for his own and after knowing his mousy bride for a day realizes he needs to stop being a total coward and challenge his brother....I honestly couldn't tell you what happens next because I don't care and could only stomach about 75% of the book, which actually feels like a major accomplishment to me. There were so many continuity errors and the characters were so dull I'm actually pretty upset and shocked at the quick change in the quality of content by comparison.

Maybe the book needed some proofreading.
The first sex scene was extremely anticlimactic, I could not believe the h was truly aroused without any foreplay. The other sex scenes were not that much better to be honest.
Found the hole “husband” and “wife” pet names unappealing.
The h was allegedly the H’s mate but he barely showed any emotion when she was stabbed and poisoned. After she was safe from dying but still healing, the H decided he needed to f*ck her (against medical orders), such a concerned man.
What a lame H. The h was not much better.
Skimmed the last 20%.

I like Star Huntress... But it's obvious that this collab had a different taste.
Unlike Ariana and Alien Valentine. Nancey Cummings showed her style and flow like no other collaborative work I've seen. Not even Sonia Nova who I enjoyed...
Nancey is talented!
description

And yes... It's short. Might have two-dimensional characters. Easy love and destined mate thing and some cliches in it...
But guess what?
It had an aftertaste! Like? A little more than like it I'd say.

Story?
Thanks to a treaty between aliens and earth there's a program of mail order brides. You know the drill...
Any who!
Girls get checked to get matched every year. Mercy didn't expect to get chosen nor did Paax expect a bride after his retirement. But she's sent to him anyway...

The heroine is very relatable and easy to like.
There's an instant connection not exactly love... Attraction? Yes!
The hero is so much more than he seems. A perfect gentleman. He talks and actually takes the time to explain things to his mate despite his circumstance. He's considerate, sexy and Nerd Alpha goods.
description
Yes of course as in all short erotic destined mates books, things escalate quickly. It's the classic warrior alien in need of women...
But guys... I bought it!
I definitely think that if Nancey got a chance to write a lengthier book I'd enjoy it even more. You'd appreciate certain details that are lost and would flow much easier.
The romance was sweet! Sex was hot! The story had me hooked and it didn't turn to be just another quick ride.

Loved the Mahdler...
description
Although they all share basic similar traits like the horns and mating urges... They come in all colors and sizes due to the mixing with other aliens. No Mahdler females...
description

So I would say enjoy and have fun! A definite rec to all!

Forcing his hand

The perfect quick read! The author did a fantastic job in just a few short pages. I enjoyed the characters, they connected quickly and the emotions really amped up the story as the excitement grew. The author kept me on the edge of my seat as the story took a turn to action and danger. I would have loved if the story was longer, but it was so well written and developed that I don’t feel I missed anything in the telling. I look forward to reading the next book by this author.

Paax is not entirely without promise but needs substantial editing. If she does nothing else in her writing career, the author must learn how to use the past perfect. Every time she wrote in the simple past when it should have been the past perfect, I cringed. Unfortunately, this was on just about every page.

Beyond that, Paax needs to be proofread for typos - the occasional random word or misused homonym, mainly. It's slightly stilted in places. It could also do with being much longer. The heroine's mother's story sounds fascinating. The small bits of characterisation of the heroine were promising, too; it's a shame she shed her personality on meeting the hero. I'm not convinced that he had one in the first place. I would have liked to spend more time looking at the culture of this alien world. The marriage ceremony was kind of charming. More of that please. The story could be interesting if it was more than just a vehicle for sex scenes.

2.5 stars, for characters that lacked character. It was odd, the setting was great, off world, evil OM with some angst for the H because the evil one was his twin. The h had a sick mother, but there was a distinct lack of emotion in the writing, it was just all 'told' and not emotion was shown. Not engaging.

Being chosen as a bride because you're the genetic match to an alien on the far side of nowhere isn't what Mercy wanted out of life. She'd thought her mother's illness kept her safe, but things happened and suddenly she was halfway across the galaxy with a sexy alien who is determined to keep her safe and wants her in the best way.

As it turns out, Mercy's predicament wasn't half bad. You know, until the half-crazed warlord turned up and started making demands of her new honey.

As for Paax, he might have never wanted a mate, but he steps up when Mercy's delivered to him. Not only does he fall for the lady, he knows the only way to truly keep her safe is to eliminate the threat he had a hand in creating. Which, hello, family drama!

Sexy, determined aliens and the humans who match with them. I like. (I also have a whole lot of curiosity about a certain assassin who helped put things in motion. A whole lot.)

There really wasn’t anything special to this one.

It was okay is the perfect description.

Your typical mates story...but without the juice! There was no chance to get invested, the steamy scenes were tepid at best, the conflict felt like it was manufactured without any real care put into it, and I didn’t care for the heroine or the Hero. They were both meh.

Honestly, it was mostly boring.

Felt like we were just going through the motions.

I ended up giving two stars because I laughed at least twice and ended up finishing the book, but I really wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Maybe if you’ve already finished all the other alien romances out there and we’re craving more...and this was the only one left?

This was a short read. It lacked depth..but I still enjoyed it. It needs a good editing.

All the conflict was wrapped up prettily with bows and that typically bothers me.

The actually rating is 2.5 stars.

I enjoyed this. It was a quick, short romance and was very entertaining.

The only thing that really annoyed me was the very obvious lack of character and relationship development.

However, it was very steamy and I loved the smut.

This was so promising but was was such a let down. The writing was good, and the world building had a great start. But it went so so fast, and nothing was actually fleshed out.

this had so much potential and ended up so rushed. It could have been amazing and filled with action and romance but it was kind of sex with a side of plot instead of the other way around.

Boring and predictable.

I couldn't even finish this. Paax and Mercys story didn't impress me at all.

Neither mercy or Pax is given any personality before there smashed together and have to do the deed. There are a building to a story but I always find it hard to really get involved when there's a lack of passion, and building of romance. The first sex scenes feels more or less like a take away meal. Fast, gets your appetite down but not really satisfying.

As for the communication between the two... is this written by a teenager? If not I would seriously recommend a more grown up approach. And what's the deal with Mercy being so meek and just accepting leaving her dying mother and jump on an Alien stick?

No... just no.

If you're one of those who likes porn movies turned to books. Then yes

Hard to follow story with weird pacing.
Misused words. Plot didn't make sense at times. There was a nonsensical plot line with the MFC getting hurt, the MMC hiding her from antagonist (who knew where they were), her getting poisoned, he leaves her alone, she gets kidnapped, but actually not kidnapped. And the MMC was oddly unemotional while she was dying and asked questions about her. Idk man.

MFC doesn't have much of a personality other than "i like alien 🍆" From the moment they meet she has zero personality other than "bang alien and have babies."

Dialog was fantastic which is a shame because the rest of the writing was lacking. Spice was worth the read.

Good plot but way too short and needs editing. It was hard to really get into the characters because they seemed kind of one dimensional. I didn't get any real emotion from them.
A longer story with the characters fleshed out a little would make this much better.

Read about 20% but really disliked the characters. Parts of the writing not making sense. Female not wanting to match but as soon as she gets sent to her future home is worried that she is not liked and is sent back? Repetition etc, not for me.

As matched mates were for warriors only, Paax had given up on ever having a matched mate, but word comes only hours before her arrival that it has been granted. He knows his twin brother, his Warlord is behind this only to manipulate him and tear his world apart.

Mercy thought with her mother's health condition and only her to care for her she would never have to go through with the mating program. Then the day arrives when she learns she must leave now to marry a strange alien immediately and the she could die in childbirth. If she lives long enough to even become pregnant for Paax's bother has her attacked and leaves a poison in her system knowing her husband will have no choice but to give into his brothers demands or let her die. Little does Omas know he has created a man willing to die and kill for his mate.

Unlike many of the warrior grooms written of today, Paax is sweet, kind and gentle already it is not a trait he must learn from his bride. They are so sweet together, you are angry for them over Omas' betrayal of his brother's love for him and the way he manipulates them. From start to finish this book will capture your heart. We also learn of Kalen , whom I liked immediately and Mylomon, whom at least I don't hate and willing to give a chance.

My rating of "Paax: Warlord Brides - Warriors of Sangrin Book 1" is 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Review:
Paax is a standout introduction to the Warlord Brides series, boldly showcasing a unique matchmaking service that genetically connects Earth females with Mahdfel Warriors. These fascinating Mahdfel aliens hail from the planet Sangrin and rely on this service due to their inability to produce females—thanks to genetic alterations by another alien race. The precision of the genetic matches is an impressive 98.5%, ensuring compatibility vital for successful unions and childbearing.

As part of this system, human females must enroll in The Draft program upon turning twenty, with only a few exceptions, such as having children or being married.

At the center of this narrative is Paax, a brilliant scientist who developed a genetic matching program. Despite his determination to find a match, Paax was unjustly denied approval to participate year after year. However, his twin brother Omas, the Warlord, decided to approve Paax for a match. By that time, Paax had come to terms with his solitude, focusing on his work and no longer seeking companionship.

Meanwhile, Mercy follows Earth protocol diligently, signing up for The Draft at twenty. Although her mother’s illness earned her some exemptions, at twenty-five, she was suddenly told she had a match and swiftly transported to her groom without further delay.

Upon Mercy’s arrival, she and Paax face significant challenges, but their immediate and intense connection becomes the cornerstone of their union. Paax is determined to fight fiercely to protect and cherish Mercy.

This book delivers a fast-paced, enjoyable read, packed with just the right amount of spice. The chemistry between the main characters is electrifying, leaving me eager to dive into the rest of the series.

After the Suhlik aliens invaded Earth and killed people, Paax's people came and offered to keep Earth safe from the Suhlik in exchange for human brides. Women are genetically tested to see if they match one of the warriors and if they find a match, they are taken to their new home on an alien world. They don't have a say in this at all because there's a bride draft and most women are tested and sent away unless you are exempt like Mercy was for a while because she was taking care of her sick mother. But once her match is found, she is taken away from her home and away from her sick mother.

Paax is a skilled doctor and made a serum that turned his twin brother into a bad person. His brother is unstable and also their warlord/ruler. Some of his people want Paax to fight him for control of their people but he doesn't think he's up to it. When Mercy arrives, he's instantly attracted to her but because his brother is throwing danger at both of them, they have to get to know one another really fast. So their romance happens really fast but they are attracted to each other right away. Maybe because they are a match genetically? I'm not sure. Paax is such a wonderful mate and guy though so I can understand falling for him to easily and fast.

This was such a good alien romance. The danger, romance and action made this a quick read.

Paax and Mercy

This is the first of the warriors of Sangrin . These warriors protect Earth from the Suhlik in exchange all they ask for are brides for their warriors. Genetic testing is done and if your are compatible you are mated and taken from your home and sent to your new warrior husband. Mercy is a normal young woman who was tested at 22 but was considered exempt because she was taking care of her sick mother who was hurt during the invasion. At 25 her time is up and her match is made to warrior Paax who is currently living on his homeword Sangrin. Paax has never had time for a wife not only is he a warrior but a gifted doctor. He was unprepared for Mercy but as soon as he saw her his heart sang. The chemistry between Paax and Mercy was instant and hot, but the story almost moved a bit too fast. There was back story that is given to us about his twin brother who is unstable and wants to use his new relationship against to get what he wants. There is some action, danger and a lot of passion. A pleasant way to spend and hour or so. I'm hoping the others in the series are a bit longer for the price tag. 💖
