Elizabeth Grant has a secret. For six moons, she’s carried on a torrid relationship with Gil, one of the orphans raised by her cousin, Loki, at Castle Curanta. She loves Gil, but she’s not ready to marry, and he has reasons of his own to put off a wedding, including his doubt that her father, the great Alexander Grant, would ever accept him as a viable match. There’s one problem with their arrangement—Elizabeth’s parents are encouraging her to marry, and some of her suitors are not so easily put off.

Gil hopes to prove himself worthy of Elizabeth, so their doomed dance can come to an end, but he doubts he’ll ever succeed. Then, he’s injured on a mission for Loki, and his love rushes to his side, their secret suddenly revealed to all. Elizabeth
THE Highland Clan #11
Keira Montclair
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

For 6 moons Elizabeth Grant has kept a big secret. She's been carrying on a relationship with Gil who is one of the orphans raised by her cousin Loki, at Castle Curanta. She truly loves Gil, but she's not quite ready to get married, not to mention he has his own reasons to put off the wedding and that is he doubts that her father ,the incredible Alexander Grant, would ever even accept him as a match for his daughter. There's one big problem looming over her head and that is the fact that Elizabeth's parents are actively encouraging her to marry, and some of those suitors are not so easily put off.

Gil is an orphan however he hopes to prove himself worthy of Elizabeth, so that the secret meetings can come to an end. Then all of a sudden he is injured while on a mission for Loki, and the lass he loves rushes to his side, and their secret is suddenly revealed to all. Finally when true happiness is within their grasp all hell breaks loose and not only must Gil heal, he must find his beloved.

Now with their lives hanging in the balance, Gil has to fight for his lass with Alexander Grant right beside him.

Keira Montclair does it again. This author is truly brilliant. Reading these stories makes you feel as if you are with long lost relatives. Elizabeth is one heck of a strong lass. She is definitely Alexander Grant's daughter and Gil he was amazing. He never showed fear nor did he back down. He faced all his fears head on. Ms. Montclair has more talent than alot of other writers. She waves a tale of love, desire, and magic that will leave you breathless and wanting more. I can't wait to see what Ms. Montclair comes up with next.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I HAVE READ THIS YEAR!!! Elizabeth by Keira Montclair is book 12 in The Highland Clan series and oh wow this book was amazing. Though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. This held me captured me from page 1 to the very end… I couldn’t put it down. I am in awe of Keira’s writing talents and story telling. This story is vivid and the character are wonderful but what I truly loved about this book is the sit on the edge of your seat story. At times I felt my heart racing it was that good. This story has a chef’s daughter, orphans, not feeling like you are good enough, a kidnapping, not wanting to leave home, loving parents, choosing one’s husband, protection, injury, fever, being forced into marriage, a very unique niece, loving children and a secret love. This story has it all and so much more. I very highly recommend this book.

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

This was an okay book. Elizabeth and Gil are both alright characters, but not super memorable. I'm usually not a fan of books where the couple is kind of already together, although in this case it being a secret relationship did make it fun. But I wish the story included the relationship from the beginning, not six months in.

DNF at 7%.

The writing is basic and the premise lacks interest. Not for me.

This is an OK Highlander romance, and an OK addition to the Highland Clan series, but I got a little irritated at Elizabeth. This book can be read standalone, but I don't recommend it. It will be much better if you read the Clan Grant series and the rest of the Highland Clan series first. That is because there are many, many characters in this story, most of whom were introduced in earlier books from those two series -- anyone who hasn't read those books would have trouble keeping the characters straight.

Elizabeth seemed way too immature to me, especially for a young woman of 23. For her to be afraid to marry and leave her clan, to the point of hiding her romance with Gil, was just silly. I get that she had been spoiled, since she was the youngest child, but still ...

I liked Gil, but thought he should have had more faith in himself, and had the courage to ask Elizabeth's father for her hand. He didn't think he was good enough for her, since he was an orphan, and he also let Elizabeth convince him to wait to get married.

This one gets 3 stars from me -- it would have gotten more if Elizabeth had not been so immature.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Because it was free, because it was short, and because who doesn’t love a puir Scottish lad winning the heart of the most beautiful lassie in the land? There’s not much of substance here, but like, it’s fine.

Elizabeth and Gil are in love, but no one must find out. One reason seems to be that Elizabeth is the daughter of a laird and Gil is the untitled, adopted orphan of a neighboring laird. However, Elizabeth's parents--despite their efforts to find a titled husband for their spinster-leaning daughter--genuinely don't care about titles and openly support Elizabeth choosing a partner for herself. (But she doesn't, so they take next steps to invite suitors on formal visits, and then browbeat them if they misbehave--mostly. Mom is a little like, "Are you sure you don't want this sort-of-not-good guy as an alternative to spinsterhood?" That isn't great. But mom just wants her kid out of the house, yo!)

So, if not Elizabeth's parents, the real reason for the secret love affair must be that Gil, who has rarely left home since being rescued from life on the streets of Edinburgh, must prove himself to be a manly man who can provide for his wife. However, Elizabeth already loves Gil for how well he takes care of the gaggle of orphans who live in the castle where he resides, and he builds furniture for her with his own hands.

So, the really real reason, then, must be that Elizabeth doesn't want to leave her parents' home because, I guess, one time she was left behind and now she doesn't want to let her parents out of her sight. However, Gil is 100% willing to live wherever Elizabeth chooses, including in her father's castle.

😑

Anyway, these two numpties continue to invent reasons to keep their love affair a secret, and continue to hold weekly trysts in an abandoned cottage that they fix up together. And she lets him, and no one else, call her "Lizzie." It sounds pretty hot, tbh. But because they are numpties, they are terrible at keeping secrets, so half of the book is spent with side characters asking each of them, "Are you suuuuuure you don't have something to tell me?"

But then the cozy conflict is replaced by a life-threatening injury to Gil at the hands of...a doppelgänger of his former abuser in Edinburgh? I dunno, it was odd. Then there's the actual kidnapping of Elizabeth by one of her previously rejected suitors. Gil comes to her rescue despite being on his death bed moments before, Elizabeth freaks out when her warrior dad does warrior things, and then it's all very swiftly over and Gil and Elizabeth come clean about their intentions for each other.

And all the laird's horses and all the laird's men couldn't make these humpty numpties interesting enough to sustain a full-length novel without generous portions of setting up future pairings and street urchins doing street urchin things. (Not sure what the deal is with the annual orphan collection tradition, actually, but that’s what I get for starting at book 11 in the series.)

My goodness what a journey this author takes you on in her stories. I absolutely love this series and after reading another homerun by this author I'm happy to see new character's stories in the future. This is a stand alone, but since the character's are so richly written and are cross over from other stories, you will find yourself hooked and reading the series. It is addictive!

Oh how I enjoyed meeting up with the youngest cousins and seeing them as little tykes with personalities already forming.

This is such a love story not only for our H/h but the h's parents too. Oh, how I loved revisiting these warm and loving people.

There is more than one villain and as only this talented author can do, I was lead down the wrong fork in the road and was wrong - lol. That's what keeps her stories so engaging. This has violence, sadness, joy, love, strong character's, romance, twists, suspense and intrigue. Never slow paced at all.

Lovemaking outside of marriage, heat level 3 out of 5. Filled with love and passion.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance, some spice and an ending that warmed my heart. Of course it had to do with Alexander and that made it more endearing. I recommend this author highly, this story and of course the whole series.

I received an advanced copy, all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)

Gil is one of the orphans raised by Loki & has grown to be a fine warrior for Clan Grant. However, Gil doesn't feel he is good enough to marry Elizabeth & they have kept their relationship a secret from everyone. How can he prove to her father, who is the legendary Alex Grant & her brothers, Jamie & Jake - co-lairds of Clan Grant, that he is worthy of her love?

Elizabeth is three and twenty & is past the normal age for a woman to be married but she feels her mother needs her continued help at their home & she loves Gil but wants to wait until he can move to Grant Castle. Her parents, especially her mother is pushing for one of the suitors attending the party they had arranged for Elizabeth to choose a future husband. Elizabeth has no interest in him because she loves Gil - could this create a problem?

Gil & Elizabeth will have obstacles that put a damper on a smooth journey to happiness but in the end, love will prevail - there are so many tender moments with the characters & the ending is "tissue worthy". I highly recommend this book & guarantee it will leave you feeling happy with a smile on your face!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

Elizabeth Grant, daughter of the legend and most powerful Laird in the Highlands, Alexander Grant, AND Gil, aka Gillie, now a strong warrior for Loki Grant, Laird of Castle Catana, of the Grant Clan, fall in love, but don't see how they can make it work, they both have their reasons, so they keep their love a secret from everyone. Their journey is captivating and a cannot put it down read as only Keira Montclair can write. She weaves her characters throughout the story brilliantly, new and familiar, and everyones' favorites too, into this story expertly. It is heartwarming, nail-biting, funny and sad too, but so very good! I truly loved this book, understood why Elizabeth feels as she does, loved her strength when she needed it in true Grant fashion, and that Gil finally was able to find his moment at the end in standing up for those weaker than he is now and in turn stood up for Gillie too. And the very end with Alex was absolutely perfect!! Can't wait to see what the Ramsay's are up to next!

Elizabeth by Keira Montclair
The Highland Clan Series Book Twelve
Elizabeth Grant has fallen in love, but she wants to keep it quiet. By doing so, she has to put up with suitors. Some not so nice, like a baron from England. But, Elizabeth isn’t ready to be married for reasons that may not make sense to those around her. So, she has Gil promise to keep it between them.
Gil, an orphan who was taken into Loki’s clan, doesn’t see how he can measure up and be accepted by Alexander Grant to marry his daughter. He feels he has to do something to prove he’s worthy.
When circumstances change, it may be too late for the two of them to be together. And of course, that’s when they realize how nothing matters but their love. Another great story as always. Wonderful characters from previous books and adorable children.

Another Joyful Journey With This Awesome Literary Family

I have been in love with this family from the beginning of these stories of this family through many books. They just seem to get even better, never disappointing. They are the kindest, most loyal, good people. This book is beautiful. I love Gill and Elizabeth that are so romantic. There is the tiniest bit of sensual relationship. I could put it down, wanting to see what happened next. I would strongly advise starting with first book about this perfect couple Alex and Maddie. There are hours pure pleasure. As you can see, I highly recommend this Author’s books.

WHY does it end on the wedding nite?

I love all the Highland series book as Highlander men are mostly Honorable and patient and kind. Something that is sorely lacking in the men TODAY that we have to choose from. BUT some are kind. Anyway no matter how long it's been since I last read a book of Keira Montclair's. I always just pick up who's WHO after the first few pages. Thanks BUT I'd like to read about the first year after a marriage because that's usually the hardest part of marriage lasting.

This book has child abduction and abuse scenes.

The other books in this series were fairly good; but this one had a fatal scene flaw. During the process of Gil and Loki rescuing Elizabeth, he encounters 2 men who admit to stabbing him, stealing children and selling them among other horrible things. Instead of either securing or dispatching them; Gil throws a few punches and they're told to leave the Country. Deeply disturbing that it was written that way as you're left imagining the 2 men continuing to harm and kidnap more children.

Gil and Elizabeth

Wonderful Highlander Saga of the Clans of Grant and Ramsey. Special characters, saving orphan children from the streets of Edinburgh, evil men forcing the orphans to be pickpockets for food. Guests were visiting to win the hand of Elizabeth to marry, but she and Gil were in love and afraid to tell her parents. High adventures with twists and turns to keep up the interest. Elizabeth finally understood her talent.

More Grants

If you enjoy the stories about the Grants then you will enjoy this book. I chose this one because of the continuing story about the Grants. Another member of the family has met someone but she feels she needs to stay with her family and does not want to get married yet. This causes problems for her when she has not only to many suitors but the wrong suitors. When one of them decides to take a short cut Alex Grant has to get involved to get back his little girl.

nice finish to this series

I will really miss the grants and Ramsay. The series, beginning when they were enemies has been exciting and rewarding. Elizabeth is the youngest biological child and the most spoiled. Her story revolves around orphans and falling in love with someone beneath her status.

Her beauty was so intense that 3 men were fighting over her, but the one who won her hand was someone well known to the clan but an unexpected suited.

Can they keep their love a secret when her parents kept bringing in suitors?

Wonderful story. How could he ask the Laird to marry his daughter when he was an orphan? When Elizabeth was kidnapped Gil was determined to save her even though she had three brothers and the Laird looking.

Fabulous story

Love the story of Gil and Elizabeth. Gil is an orphan and adopted by powerful clan. He meets the love of his life and fights to get her back. He dedicated his life to helping other orphans and one little lass has attached herself to him. Full of adventure. A great read. Can't wait for the next adventure.

Loved this story and of course hearing from Alex and Maddie again. After the last book I read, didn't think I'd hear about them again. Lizzie and Gil have their work cut out for them. She should have just up and talked to her mom and dad and would have avoided all the chaos. Loved the ending. No fooling Alex. HEA.

A Grant story is always a good read.

A secret love waiting to be announced and parents that are introducing new suitable husbands unknowingly. The Grant Clan takes care of their own and no one is allowed to interrupt the clan's peace without reprisal! Elizabeth is a strong lass that knows what she wants and her story fits right into the Grant's family history.

Lovely

As always the Clan Grant novels are beautifully written, however er this is not a standalone story. It is hard to follow all of characters if you have not read earlier books and if you read a
Book 11 in the series it Is difficult to go back to earlier times.

Not many words needed.

This is yet another fantastic tale woven into the tapestry of the Grant/Ramsay world. It is clever and so skillfully written that I was drawn completely into it from page one. A must read for any fans of historical romance and Ms. Montclair.

Elizabeth and Gil

They felt they needed to keep their love a secret because of not knowing where to live or not being worthy enough. They were mistaken about how her parents would react to Gil being an orphan. Alex and Maddie only wanted Elizabeth to be happy.
