Goth Drow Unleashed #1

Strange and Unusual

I’m not Goth to hide my Drow heritage, I’m Goth because I’m not a quitter.

My name is Cheyenne Summerlin, remember that name. Somebody should…

The world can’t know I’m a Drow halfling. Not yet. I barely have these powers under my control, but time’s up. I’m about to take magic for a test drive. Want to come along?

The black-ops government group believe they can run my life... But I have plans of my own.

Watch out magical evil doers – I’m about to crash your party.

But will my training be enough?

Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.

I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.

There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.

Thank you for checking out my stories!

This book wasn't for me. I chose it because I saw there were many books in the series and I believe that strong female leads (where romance isn't the main point of the story) are too few and far between.
As I was listening I just had such a problem believing or relating to the MC. This might be the first "cringe lady" I've come across. It's just so unreasonable the way she acts, and the goth part doesn't make sense for two reasons. First: she dies her hair and dress as a goth to hide her true nature, yet when she shifts her hair and skin change color regardless? I mean... What's the point in dying it black if the shift is strong enough to turn it white any way? Wouldn't it make more sense to just die it a white-ish blonde instead so the change isn't as visible?
Secondly, do people in the US really react like that to seeing a goth? Everyone, everywhere can't handle how edgy she is. She has safety pins y'all! Even hospital staff can barely speak to her because she is so "out there".
It's all just cringy af.

Those four books (Goth Drow Unleashed 1-4) were originally published as a part of the first book Once Upon A Midnight Drow in Goth Drow series.
What is next? "New books" by splitting old ones? Goth Drow has six books so 6X4= 24 "new" books?

If you already have book one Once Upon A Midnight Drow then you don't need these four.

Cheyenne is just not likable but the story itself is not bad. Hopefully she matured as the series goes on.

Once again, I've started a Carr/Anderle series, and am VERY happy with what I found.

Strange and Unusual is the perfect title for this book, as we readers are introduced to Cheyenne Summerlin, an early twenties student, studying for an MA.

She's a computer geek, and is as Goth as you can get - especially as she happens to be a halfling - that's half-Human, half-Drow - a Dark Elf!

This story starts off quite normal - well, as normal as you can get, given the circumstances - but things soon start to get crazy, when Cheyenne's best, and only, friend, ends up getting shot by an Orc.

From that moment on, Cheyenne is driven - not only to find the Orc, to punish him, but also to find out, if she can, just who her father is, and why she's suddenly being followed.

The plot is great in this story, and keeps getting more and more convoluted, as the story goes on.

As usual with these Authors, they have written believable characters and storylines, and in a way that immediately got me involved in the story, and rooting for Cheyenne!

I'm really happy that I started this series, as there's eighteen books, in all, set in two series, so this will keep me entertained for a few weeks, hopefully! Lol

So, now I've finished this first one, I'm eager to go on to Book Two: 'Leave the World Behind', so I'll just finish this review: "Go on! Just buy both series, because you'll find out, immediately, that you won't want to stop at the first book!" Lol

So, I'm now off to Book Two, and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know whether it stands up to this great first book!

DNF at 21%, so no star rating. I am this far in, and the world building and character development are so awkward, that I'm not 100% on what is happening. I am not invested at all.

The heroine is very unlikeable so far. Girl lied to her best friend of four years, refused to help her, then stood around watching while the friend got shot, didn't catch the shooter (when she could have), and then bullied a bunch of nurses at the hospital, when the nurses were being super nice. I'm pretty far in to find zero redeeming qualities in my lead. The only other thing we know about her is how she was conceived and that she dresses like a goth: pretty neutral stuff. They haven't even explained what a Drow is, though someone said the words "dark elf" in passing, and I THINK they were talking about the heroine? Again, slow, unsatisfying world building and character development.

Good read

Interesting read, good read. Cheyenne is an interesting character. Action, magic and a little intrigue, what else do you need? Almost everyone knows someone like Cheyenne, just without the magical powers. I thought I had read quite a few of the other books in the Oriceran universe. I looked them up after I finished this one and it looks like I have some catching up to do...

Yeah this goes in the library is one of the better books I've read

Between the great storytelling and the unique storyline this is a lot of fun can't wait to crack open the next book it's 10:47 p.m. my alarm will go off at 4:30 a.m. to get ready for work but I'm going to start the next book anyways if that gives you an idea of how fun this was to read I hope they continue this series for a while because this has been refreshingly different and fun

Brash, heroine + World Ending Madness

A fun magical romp to be enjoyed and savored. The series is an adventure highly worth reading but make plenty of time to read all the books because you cannot read just one. Only real issue in a magic series with lots of boom, crash, zit, etc. Little death but easily overlooked for the adventure in the reading of this series. Yes it is good for all ages where 4-letter words can be read and hopefully ignored.

A good setup, I liked the magic lessons and hacking. The book spent too much time in the day-to-day with me knowing nothing, it felt like the story just started when the book ended. Considering there’s 18 books in the series, I suppose things may be drawn out. (Edit: I just read that the original book one was split into 4 books, so this is indeed 1/4 of a book).

Could be written better

I hate books written in third person, it's like having it narrated by someone not in the book at all. I like the story line,so I'll try making it though the next book.

Excellent series

Wow really enjoyed this first book in the series. Not your normal fantasy series. Loads of action, suspense and plots. Love the goth drow!

Cheyenne is new

A half drow embarks on a tour de force while still trying to figure out who she is. Turns out that just being drow suffices

Interesting concept but overly long, too many chapters, and too much storyline compressed into one run-on, wordy book

Narration: Devon Sorvari
Fantasy

I like listening Devon Sorvari and that is the main thing why I listened the hole book. The book is not bad it's just that not much happened in this first installment. I like fast paced action and romance and this didn't have any romance and very little action. I will however continue this series and see where it goes.
