Wonky Inn Series:
The Wonkiest Witch: Wonky Inn Book #1 - This is my first read by this author and I enjoyed the story. As I became wrapped up in the pages, I started enjoying the storylines and the characters and wondering how much witch Alf would become. Since I've been reading about witches a lot lately, I get bored when I come across another witch refusing to be herself. Why deny what you are; do you give yourself a lobotomy if you're intelligent and want to dumb down to normal? One of my role models, as a kid, was Samantha Stevens, she remained true to herself, and an independent woman, regardless of her silly husband's demands; unlike Jeannie, a beautiful, two-legged Labrador (eager to please her master). Ms. Wycherley's writing style is conversational and casual. The likable and interesting characters are developing at a good rate and will probably gain more depth as the series continues. The storylines do a good job setting the foundation from which the series will build. Once the intros are made there's plenty of intrigue and suspense. A fire opens a can of troubles bringing the witch in Alf to full acceptance. A unique use of ghosts, which I've never read. I'm curious about the rest of the stories. I found this author on and her book through Booksprout. 4*

The Ghosts of Wonky Inn #2 - As much as I liked the first book, I loved this one. I absolutely love the ghosts and what they can actually do. This is one of the things I love about this series; plus the fact that the witch uses magic instead of denying who she is. The variety of ghostly characters are great. I couldn't put the book down, I was so immersed in the fast paced, funny and intriguing storylines. The characters range in personalities, eras and locations, lending the story depth and substance. 5*

Weird Wedding At Wonky Inn #3 - The additions to this series just keep getting better. Another hard to put down story. I love some of the guest characters; especially when she hit him (read the story), although why use blackmail in this case? Alf mixes a party with a vampire wedding and wonders what else is going to happen; lots do happen. Great-grandmother brings her share to the table and then splits, leaving a spot of bother. George is great with his acceptance of the vamps since he didn't get on board quickly about Alf being a witch previously; what trust is that. The past is over for Alf as she finds the Mori is still about. Oh, speaking of the past, how about crazed villagers and a burning (read the story). That's all the spoilers I've giving out. There's more but I want you to enjoy the book like I did, without a book report. 4*

Fearful Fortunes and Terrible Tarot #4 - I can't get enough of this series. I enjoy the characters and their functions throughout the series. This one has almost everyone undercover. Another well thought out addition full of intrigue and suspense, and humor. The storylines are developing and there's definitely bad news ahead. This book is darker than the previous ones and Alf gets to experience what witches suffered through centuries past. I didn't care for the ending; of course for the main reason (read the book) and Alf's attitude was nonchalant concerning that reason. I did enjoy Mama Henri, a voodoo queen from NOLA. 4*

The Mystery of the Marsh Malaise #5 - I absolutely love this series. You never know what to expect from Ms. Wycherley and her crew. Just when you think you know what's going to happen, there's a twist and you're off again working it out. The characters grow on you and the ghosts are a big part of the enjoyment. Yes, there's some darkness in this story; you've the good vs. the bad, plus a lot more in the storylines. There's a new ghost and he's great; I enjoyed what he and another ghost did to help Alf. With George, you know he's going to be found sooner or later, but what else is found and the result is hilarious. Alf is still my type of witch and she keeps kickin' it. Read these books sequentially, it is worth the time invested. A good, clean story full of interesting characters of all sorts and well thought out storylines with twists you just don't see coming sometimes.5*

The Mysterious Mr Wylie #6 – Entertaining and intriguing. Good storylines continued and new make this an interesting series. The past and the present come together with a bit of time travel to 1983, not a time I would have picked. The pace is fast and the characters, old and new, along with the humor help keep the reader immersed in the pages. It is great to see D back and he adds a bit of sexual tension to mix; good banter between him and A. 4*

The Great Witchy Cake Off #7 – There is a whole lot of intrigue with the murder, and pas and possible new love interest. I was happy with all the baking and not one bite available for me to sample, which is so sad since all the desserts sounded worthwhile to indulge with a cuppa. Again, there are good storylines, good characters with appearances from previous books and plenty of additional features in the background making Number 7 a toothy read. After reading so many of this series, it is hard not to get into a book report instead of a review, but I’ll let you discover that for yourself. 4*

Vengeful Vampire at Wonky Inn #8 - while it started slow for me, I was not in the mood for vampires, the pace picked up and I was immersed in the captivating storylines and good characters. This ended up being a good read. The author's talented blending of old and new storylines, vivid descriptions, I fell in love with Romania again, and her creative creation of characters made this story hard to put down once everything came together. Plenty of intrigue and suspense with touches of humor and romance. I contacted the author to review her books and received this book through Booksprout. 4*

The Witch Who Killed Christmas - If you at all can, read the other books first, there's spoilers. Another well written, entertaining story that starts around Christmas, just months later after Wonkiest ended. While not as intriguing as Wonkiest, there was a difficult problem to solve. The cast of interesting characters are still around. The writing style is still casual with humor and drama dispersed throughout the story, this is a quickly read novella. 4*

Magic, Murder and a Movie Star, #10 - I laughed myself silly with the names of the Witchywood movie cast. Fun. Entertaining. Good story lines with a seamless blending of the old with the new. The characters are always good in this series; you cannot help but love the regular crew and some of the new ones. Lovely surprise for Alfhind near the end. Well written and well thought out. 5*

Judge, Jury and Jailhouse Rockcakes, #11 - A wonderful story with plenty of humor through out the drama, a good balance. Well written and well thought out, the story lines were interesting and the book was hard to put down. Professor Dodo appears in this story; his interesting story is the first of the Wonderland Detective Agency series. Alf's experience as a Goblin is entertaining while performing a great deal of investigations in record time. 5*

A Midsummer Night’s Wonky, #12 - A lot of serious business going on this time around. There is a heatwave that does not help. 80 degrees F in Germany is almost as bad as 100 deg F in Texas, so imagine 70s in the UK. A whole lot of love is happening, including Manc and Silvan, which creates havoc for C and A. A good story. 4*

Pieces of Hate, #15 - It has been a long time since I read Vengeful Vampire at Wonky Inn, #8. I worried about missing the several books between Vengeful and Pieces. Silly me, it was like I never left. I still remembered the characters from the previously read stories. Pieces was fun and interesting, and I did not put the book down until the last page. It was enjoyable to return to Wonky Inn, and this story did not disappoint. Wonky Inn is one of my favorite series to get lost in at any time. 5*
Wonky Inn Series End.

Wonderland Detective Agency series.
Dead as a Dodo - I enjoy reading books by this author and this one fits in. There are characters from The Wonky Inn series. Eliseo is a good character along with the rest of the cast. Interesting. Fun. Good story lines. Better than a Cozy mystery. 4*
Wonderland Detective Agency series end.

Alf's doing porridge!

Alf agrees to go to London to accompany Florence on her book launch in London, as ever trouble is never far away, At the publishers party for Florence, Alf has a couple of interactions with a horrible man, Charles who thinks that everyone he meets is all about him (hint they aren't) he is obnoxious and doesn't understand the word no! However when Alf wakes up in the boiler room of the hotel (Alf has developed an odd love for a good boiler) with her head and the door banging. When she opens the door she is arrested, for murder!.
Turns out Charles, is Charles Favendish the now very dead Charles Favendish and all clues point to Alf, she is arrested and sent to jail to await her day in court! Not only that but it seems there is a lot of evidence pointing to her guilt.
How is Alf going to cope being locked up in Witchwood Scrubs, her magic is dampened and her ability to investigate is severely restricted! Will she be able to figure out who set her up? Most of all can Alf cope allowing others to investigate for her?

What an adventure, though it was sad not to be in Devon with the Wonky Inn Crew, but a delight for us the reader. Alf's experience in prison was very well written and it was of no surprise to discover that the author has spent some time behind bars (as a teacher on this side of the bars,) Alf was her delightful self, and was able to make friends even though it's clear that her "pad mate" does not want/nor need friends but Alf, well Alf is Alf!
This is a wonderful series that you can just sit down on a Sunday afternoon and have a coffee and slip in and enjoy with old and new friends. Just a shame that Flo isn't here to make me some lovely cakes! What would be the icing on the cake (if you will forgive the pun great if Jeannie Wycherley could publish "The Spirit of Baking" Florence's baking book.
Would love to see a bit more Silvan though, Would be nice to see them as a "regular" Witchy couple instead of him swooping in to gain the glory it feels like he always swoops in in the last 3 chapters to bail her out of the trouble she is in! When in reality she has already saved herself.
Oh one final thing.... What is with the boiler!??

You never know what to expect in these awesome stories! When Alf accompanies Florence to London as her baking book is about to be launched. But instead of Florence blundering into trouble, it’s Alf who is in the wrong place at the wrong time and ends up in jail for the murder of Charles Favendish, an obnoxious man she met at the publisher’s party with Florence! The alarming part is that many clues point right to Alf as the murderer! Is someone setting her up? How can she investigate the mystery if she is locked up? It’s a good thing she made some friends who are able to help her out.

As always, this is a really good book, very well written with characters well defined. Each scene and action is described perfectly, with enough detail to make the reader feel they are standing in the middle of whatever is going on. Humor is always a favorite of mine in a cozy – and this author handles it expertly. The story line is well thought out and moves at a nice pace to keep the reader fully interested.

Things are never straightforward where our heroine is involved and this time she is a bit out her of element.

This is book eleven in the series. Each book works very well as a standalone. It will have references to events past, but all the critical stuff is spelled out pretty quickly. But beware, as the series is highly addictive and you will soon want to read the rest of them.

I have loved the Wonky Inn from the first book I read and that certainly hasn't changed. As usual, the story is very well written and filled with fun and interesting characters. The characters are diverse and colorful, some helpful and some not so much. The book couples a mystery with a great sense of humor along with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. The overall experience is one of delighted fascination, making for an excellent weekend entertainment. As always, I am left looking forward to the next wonky adventure.

Highly recommended.

Another terrific entry in Jeannie Wycherley's Wonky Inn series. All these books have been terrific so far, and this latest edition conditions the trend. This episode does NOT take place at our beloved Wonky Inn, however. In this book, Florence (one of my FAVORITE characters in the series) has a baking book about to be published, and Alf takes Florence to London for the launch. As things usually do in these books, things quickly go awry for Alf. Soon she finds herself locked up for MURDER. The Wonky Inn books are always fun, always entertaining, and always full of quirky and mysterious characters. This latest story fits right in. While this can be read as a standalone fun mystery, readers will get much more out of the book if they have already read at least a couple other books in the series. Ms. Wycherley has built a whole world for us, and the more you know the characters and through lines, the more enjoyable each book in the series is. I highly recommend the entire series.

Nice job Florence!!! She wrote her book and is getting it published. Florence also gets kudos for getting Alf to ho with her to London, and ... wait for it.... getting Alf 'dressed'. Read the story and you will understand.

Okay so mystery right? Where is the mystery? The mystery is how Alf, away from home, wakes up next to a boiler, gets blamed for a murder, and ends up in jail. How did it happen? Who really did it and why? More importantly how does she clear her name from a prison cell? (English judicial system)

Thank you to Mouse and Fleasbee!!!

What really stayed with me from this story was how someone can be perceived as weak or threatening. 'Weak' might just surprise you!!!! Mouse, you go! Basically, old adage of judging a book....

Really nice addition to Wonky series. Lots to learn abd think about.

Easy to read, fun mystery.

This my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

I apologize for lateness of review.

I loved how Florence got her moment to shine with her book deal as well as how she pushed Alf out of her comfort zone with fashion but you knew bad things were coming and boy did they ever. Time is ticking for Alf to find out who set her up and being stuck in lock up and having to rely on others but well you know Alf she doesn't like to sit around and do nothing! You just don't know who to trust in this book even the people who you think are good and then with the danger Alf is in while in the clink you do wonder if this time Alf's luck has run out, thankfully there is magic, great friends, people who will help and a new friend to make which all helps in trying to free Alf!

After her almost win of the Great Witchy Cake-off Florence collected some of her recipes and created a cookbook.
She and Alf are in London to launch the book, when a man, who was almost stalking Alf died suddenly after she had tried to tell him off.
For that reason Alf becomes the main subject of the murder investigation.
This story describes how old friends and new rally around her to prove her innocence.
A slightly different style from the usual Wonky Inn stories, as it plays mostly in London, but also as Alf experiences the penitary system from the inside.
A good book, that was hard to put down, entertaining and despite all, gives you moments to smile or outright laugh.

Usually I don’t care for jailhouse stories

Especially when they are about wrongful convictions. I hate how unfair the legal system can be and how it does not protect the innocents, but it should. And the innocents caught in the machine never come out the same. But, I love Alf, and
I hung in there, and I am glad I did. It won’t ever be my favorite part of the series, because of my above mentioned aversion, but it was excellent nonetheless less, and the story was a little less predictable for me, which was fun too. I wonder if she got her wand and dress back, and what Silvan thought of the dress…. I think I would like to see a little more of Silvan. He is a great character, and brings such a wonderful strong and ironically independent side out in Alf.

Mouse and Fleashee were the best.
Okay, let's set the mood it is a dark and stormy night wait you say that not what you read! Sure in reality Alfie is trying to fix the boiler but got your attention did I not? This book was so much fun to read you will not want to put it down until it is finished. A very obnoxious man ends up dead and Alfie is arrested for murder! It is all a set up I SAY! Our heroine cannot be guilty, right? This gem will see Alfie in jail making friends and solving a who done it in her most unique way. This is such a fun series and this new addition is really a must-read! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Poor Alf, something is always going wrong for her, even a simple trip to London to accompany Florence for her book launch turns to disaster. As usual I loved the book and found it very hard to put down. We were introduced to some interesting new characters, look forward to seeing more of some, and caught up with some old ones. Was disappointed that Silvan did not make much of an appearance in this book, I always like a bit of romance.

wonky at its best

If you are a fan of Wonky Inn inhabitants you will love this the latest book in the series . A real murder mystery with Alf centre stage and in prison how can she possibly prove her innocence when all the evidence points to her guilt and her legal team are too busy to do much to help Less ghosts around to help as they are banned from the magic prison and enemies both within and without I real page turner with lots of fun ( even if it is not fun for our beloved heroine )

Alfie goes decides she will go with Florence for her book release. Alfie is having a good time, until see meets a rude man. Alfie wakes up with no memory of how she got there. She is arrested for the murder of the man, Alfie will have to determine just wanted happened and who committed the crime

This was another fun story from the author. Didn't want to go into details of the story because there is so much that can ruin the book. I enjoyed reading this book. I recommend reading.

Alf does not prove to be a great minder for Florence at her cookbook launch. A handsy member of the publisher’s family ends up being the source of an undue amount of agita

Alf finds herself again pitted against difficult circumstances and odds

Can her personal intuition and her personal relationships help her find a way forward for herself and maybe a new friend or two?

Or will Alf fall victim to circumstances that have long term consequences

All Alfie was supposed to do was help promote the cookbook and now look at her. She is in jail. This series is awesome and amazingly funny. I can never read one without laughing. I love the eccentric characters so much. It feels like we are old friends. The book is an easy read. The story is clever with those amazing twists and clues. I read it in an afternoon. I am so ready for the next one. I just adore this series with its lovable characters.

But while there, a wealthy man who kept bugging Alfhid is found murdered and he’s has been murdered with her wand. Now she’s in jail and all leads seem to point out that she is the murderer. But then why is someone trying to kill her while she’s in jail. She will need all of her friends, employees, and Silvan to help her. The Big House for Alf?
This is a great episode of my favorite paranormal cozy series. All of my favorite characters are in this one, doing what they do best. Alf is caught sweet-talking her favorite boiler. Florence has her cookbook debut and book signing. And that is just the 'normal' stuff. I enjoy this series so much and the author keeps the episodes fresh and entertaining. This is really good book telling the story of a witch who attends a party for her ghostly friend who has written a book on food. The next thing you know, the witch is being accused of murdering someone and she's suddenly being sent to witch prison...yep, there seems to be a place where witches are held and their powers are taken away from them.

Read more on how Alfhild and her friends and family work to identify who is the real killer.

This is a charming book. I have fallen in love with all of the characters. Such a happy occasion to go to London, ur the Alf’s world was turned upside down for no reason of her own. That is where the detective work started. The goblin worked magic and was able to help Alf outside of the jail.

A true joy to read. Not your ordinary read, loved it!!

Another fun read in this series!

Always good to read another book in this series, it's a fun, entertaining, light read. Magick, mystery and mayhem abounds as always with the gang from Wonky Inn, this being no exception. If you enjoy lighter urban fantasy reads then this and indeed the whole series are a must and even if you generally read darker fantasy like me this is an enjoyable, well written break from that

Getting sent to prison because of a guy that doesn't take no for an answer

This book was a little different since it doesn't take place at the Wonky Inn but in London. Alf is found in a boiler room of the hotel and arrested for murdering a man who was constantly giving her problems every time they met. She met an interesting person in prison that she hopes to help if she can only get out herself.

Alfie joins her smoldering housemaid in London to celebrate the publishing of Florence's cookbook. Again, she finds herself plunged into solving a murder mystery. This time, the tables are turned. She is the accused!! She finds herself in jail, waiting for the final say in a crime she knows she didn't commit but can't remember what really happened. Alfie must use her wits and call in bit of help to survive being in jail, let alone clear her name.

Fun installment in the Wonky Inn series.

Another winner!

I have yet to read a book by Jeannie Wycherley that wasn't wonderful. I 'm starting book 12 of the Wonky Inn series, and I have loved every single one. I can't get enough. Each one is so different in the story line. I love that the same characters continue in each book with new characters introduced. Mr. Hoo is my favorite. I hope Jeannie Wycherly continues with these wonderful, fanciful stories and I love the magic of Jeannie Wycherly.
