In a small bay town exits a forgotten hotel in the mountains, where no one dares to enter.
The Falcon Creek Lodge was established in 1950 as a high-end resort for travelers and distinguished guests, taken in by its seclusion and scenic beauty. After an unspeakable tragedy, its doors close. Decades later, a tabloid TV host investigates the vacant lodge with his production crew in search of supernatural evidence. Their show ends in disaster. In the years that follow, family man Greg Barrett purchases the property with dreams of running his own business. But his presence awakens a dormant curse and unleashes a terror from beyond.
The Haunting of the Falcon Creek Lodge A Riveting Haunted House Mystery By: Roger Hayden Narrated by: Cheryl May This is a book I received from freeaudiblecodes and the review is my own opinion.
I received a few ghost/haunting books from freeaudiblecodes but this was a true horror story! It was good and spooky! It starts by giving the reader a story of the lodge in a very out-of-the-way place where these rich friends meet each year to catch up and enjoy food and drink without their wives. This year, in the 1950's, they get a special surprise! A party crasher, someone seeking revenge. A supernatural being seeks justice for something the men's ancestors did 100 years ago.
The next story is the lodge in 1980's when a TV crew decides to do a documentary on the lodge and the massacre in the'50s. This went about as well as expected! Lots of great supernatural suspense! What I liked was the owner of the lodge wouldn't go inside and suggested the crew not stay long in there either. The owner hands the keys over and leaves immediately.
The last story is in the present. A couple is convinced to buy the place for a ridiculously low price. They are excited to start something new. Boy, the low price is certainly not worth it! We also find out the full story of what happened that started the problem 150 years ago. Before this we got little hints. Good ending! Good narration!
Way to many mistakes, the book is full of them. Like this, The day was really nice the day was really nice. Try this, he asked her to look her asked her to look. Get the point. The story would of been better if more thought was given to the witch.
This has been an interesting read. I see some of the shining coming through but not enough to ruin your basic sort tell you what you keep writing them and ill keep q
1952, Falcon Creek Lodge, right before Christmas; an employee goes berserk, kills the owner and several guests. During his trial, he claims to have no memory of anything that occurred, but is found guilty and executed.
Jump to 1985, and a televised ghost hunting show decides to do an investigation. The host, a pretentious Brit, who won't say no to faking "paranormal events" to get ratings, is warned by the current owner. There is also a psychic with the group, and he wants everyone to leave, it's not safe for them. They all should have listened to Trevor, he was dead right, and the pun is intended.
A couple buy the hotel and 20 acres at a steal, hoping to get it up and running. Even though they were told the story of what happened in 1952, the current owner (son of the man who owned it in 1985), lies and says, "No, it's not haunted". The couple buy the hotel without doing any research, and, well, you get what you paid for is a vast understatement.
Alright, there are a good number of bad spellings, or usage of words; after all the books this author wrote, you'd think he get a decent proofreader. However, the author has crammed every great and scary story into this one novel, from Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House" to Stephen King's "The Shining", and there's some "Blair Witch" and "The Salem Witch Trials: thrown in for good measure.
My advice, learn to speed read when you get to the 3rd part (the couple who buy the renovated hotel), or your eyes and brain will get very, very tired.
This was a good read, although I found some of it a bit to much. I've read better but also read worse. The characters were good and the plot ok. Took me several times reading to get finished but I got through it. I will try the author again as sometimes one book isn't grounds to judge a author by all that they have written. I am in hopes it was just this book that was hard to finish and that others will be more to my liking. Thanks for sharing your talent and sorry that this book was not what I expected but as I said I will try another then judge.
I guess you would call this a witch ghost tale (a witch that is also a ghost). I think the characters and scene settings were, just okay. Maybe it was just me, but this story did not hold my interest. I was like pulling teeth to read a chapter at a time. So many gaps that didn’t make sense; like a sealed dirt room in the attic (come on... where’s the logic in that). Good luck
This was my first book by Roger Hayden. Greg is looking for a new start with his wife Taya and stepson Josh. Greg is looking to buy an old hotel that is haunted by witches from the 1950s. He did not believe it was haunted until after purchasing and moving in with Taya and Josh. This is a very hauntingly active and will keep you reading to see the outcome. I loved this and would recommend it. I plan to read more of Mr. Hayden’s books.
The Haunting of the Falcon Creek Lodge by Roger Hayden is a fantastic story that I have had the privilege to read and I loved it. This is book twenty-one out of twenty -two books that I am so hooked on and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about suspense mysteries and thrillers.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. I was hooked from the start and whenever I had a spare minute I dived back in to carry on the story to see where it would take me next. I was full engrossed until the last couple of pages. I can't say why but I just felt a little let down by the ending. An epilogue or something may have helped but once I was done I left feeling disappointed. I felt the story and characters deserved better IMHO.
This was a good story. Again it was in the Northeast area of the US. Don't know if I'll ever visit that part of the country. The only thing that I wonder about is whether or not some of the books in this series have been proof read for type-O's. But maybe that's just me.
So, are you tired of sympathetic protagonists and touchy feely spirits who seek understanding and then fade away? Your appetite for violence can be sated here! I think the editors had trouble wading through the gore as well because some good sized errors slipped through. It is what it is, though. Bloody.
Another pass with a good editor would have improved the reading of the book. Pronouns incorrectly placed, missing words, other things, like tightening up some of the verbage. The story had potential. The ending was quick, talking about the ghost on just a few pages. I liked that Victor came back, but that plot point could have been better executed.
I read the authors other haunted house book and I love the way he tells a story. This one was unexpectedly gory but tolerable. The story line made sense and was right to the point. It was like 3 different hauntings in one but I do think the 3rd final haunting of the book should have spared the details it has already mentioned twice before.
Overall, this book is a nice, quick and spooky read.
This book holds an interesting end. Goodness can happen. You won't know until the end. I saw some miss spelled words but could figure out what they were.
Excellent story line. It has well developed characters and history of the lodge. It would be much better if there weren't so many errors...spelling. grammar, and just plain wrong words or names. The mistakes on nearly every page.
I found the writing style good. Characters were developed and believable. The story was compelling. I found the story disturbing yet I would recommend the book for horror fans.
Ghost stories are fast becoming my favorite genre of fiction. This book was fast paced and hard to put down. It maintained my interest all the way through. Another book I highly recommend.
I was looking forward to a fast moving story, with mystery and suspense, but the author gave too detailed descriptions and unimportant details, so I quit about one thirds in.
Excellent story and characters! Sometimes hard to understand due to typos that were not edited properly. Didn't really care for the open-ended ending. Otherwise it was excellent!
I enjoyed this ghost story as much as my all time favorite haunted house book, "The Supernaturals" which I didn't think I'd ever find one that I liked as much as that one. I really enjoyed this haunted house and highly recommend it.
The story was riveting. I wish the editing would have been done better. I am noticing a trend in the books in this series. There are several misspellings and character names in the wrong places. I will continue to read these books because I find them entertaining.
The story is one haunted book series band this one better one The story takes place at falcon creek lodge and suppose haunted by witch that cursed the lodge. Things go wrong when family move in.,they found when they got the lodge really cheap on market.
I had to force myself to finish this novel. The characters and plot was underdeveloped. The pace of the novel was way too slow and there was no good climax or resolution. There was also poor editing.
The ugly history behind a beautiful location. Truly sad tale of how hiding the truth leads to unending suffering and tragedy. The take away is no matter how painful and ugly, the truth will set you free.
Really enjoyed reading this very interesting and attention getting book that I had trouble putting it down. Looking forward to reading more of this series and highly recommend your reading as well.
This was by far the most awful book I've ever read. By the time I got to the 5th or 6th chapter, the story kept getting more and more forced. It was about 45 minutes of my life I'll never get back!
The story line was interesting but this author must get a proofreader and an editor! So many errors made it a struggle to read. Sorry to say but my 9th graders wrote better than this.
A fast and interesting story if you like ghost stories. I don’t usually like this type of story, but did enjoy this one, it kept my interest till the end.
