One Fated Mate Is A Blessing. Four Is A Curse

Until my sister made a deal with the dark fae, I was 100% human.
Now she’s missing and I’m cursed with wings and four fae princes as my fated mates.

Prince Bradwell, August, Rory, and Caulden are as gorgeous as they are cruel.
They rule my academy and don’t want a magic-less mate who can’t see through basic glamors.
They want to get rid of me. To see me destroyed.
So they’ve ordered me to compete in the Fae Trials.

If I can survive this deadly tournament, the vicious mean girls, and my devious mates, I can escape a painful, humiliated death.

Fae Trials is book one of the Royal Fae Academy trilogy, a reverse harem paranormal academy bully romance with dark themes, sexual situations, and violence.

This series was so bad, from the very first book to the last but I lapped every book up, maybe it was boredom, maybe it was the smut. I didn't think the heroine actually really connected with anyone in the harem because she really liked sex and would have it with anyone so even though she was fated to the princes I think it doesn't mean anything to her. She would have slept with them either way.

I loved that she was that way sexually, don't get me wrong. I just think the author did not put more emotion behind the characters except for lust. I also absolutely HATED that the heroine didn't do anything to the guys after what they had done to her. I like Bully RH ONLY when the heroine pays back the people that bullied her in the first place, without that she just looks like a doormat.

If you're interested in this series know that there is absolutely no plot, after she's cursed by the dark fae that "his burden will be her burden" it turns out there is no burden because absolutely nothing happened in regards to the curse.

Ugh. A disappointment. I was really excited seeing that magical cover but nope, its appearance deceived me.

So the FMC basically lives in a place where humans are treated like shit and one day, her sister goes to make a deal with the dark Fae to help the FMC out of a tight situation including the nasty Fated- the four faeries who are destined to marry the four princes of the courts. While trying to save her sister, an ambush goes wrong and the FMC ends up cursed to become a faerie and is immediately enrolled in the academy. No one seems to recognise her but when the princes' wings glow indicating that she is their fated mate, the Fae Trials are proposed- a fight to death in a series of three contests for the princes' hands. The Fated are out to make her life living hell and our FMC must try to survive with the help of her friends and find her sister before she is auctioned off.

This book had potential but it wasn't touched. The beginning started off strong but then it all went downhill from there. No character complexity, no rich world building and no emotion of any sort was shown. The writing went off and I was left reading about two-dimensional characters rather than three-dimensional people.

So the bully was surprisingly strong in this one and I didn't agree with it. If the writing style continues to be like this, there can be no redemption for the heros. Atleast the heroine has a little bit of a spine but the heros are downright cruel and they humiliated her without reason. Assholes. So this is a spoiler but the main thing was this one scene where she has sex with her ex, not realising that she was actually in a big dining hall with a lot of students watching her because someone had woven some glamour around her giving her the illusion of privacy. And when the headmistress gets wind of this and expresses her disapproval and the princes suggest a fucking blowjob competition. Yes, it was so stupid. And it was even approved! When I say Fae, I think about elitist, cruel and cunningly clever and cutthroat Fae, not uncivilized scumbags like these people. If the writing was top-notch, I wouldn't have an issue with this scene because it obviously is supposed to be bully romance but this writing does not promise redemption.

Like the only person we know a bit of other than the FMC is Prince Rory and her friend, Helen. Prince Caulden was under-developed, Prince August was like a minor actor who was present there just to deliver some lines while Prince Bradwell didn't even open his mouth. Only the descriptions of the appearance of the Princes sounded good. The only thing worth mentioning is the smut lol. It was surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting it but hey, I'm not complaining!

And the FMC's name is Unity. Just remembered.

So yeah, I will be reading the next book just to know what happens to Helen. I would tell you to go find another series to read but this wasn't too bad so if you want to try your luck, you certainly may. If you don't want to waste your time, I'd tell you to go back to your TBR as you aren't missing out on any extraordinary read or anything. Overall, I didn't like it but you are always free to form your own opinion. 😁

Well this started out okay but seemed to get worse the further I read. The world is disgusting. Nothing but sex and abuse. yet all the actually Fae women are very prudish. every male in the book wanted sex and it ruined the story. The woman were very abusive to those they saw as a fret. I liked how she was cursed but thats about all.

Look, I have a major soft spot for Sofia Daniel. She writes, like... bubble gum pop hits. Nothing groundbreaking, but top 40 material for sure.

She's got the pacing of a bully romance down to a straight-up science. Yeah, the characters are a little cookie-cutter and the world-building is nothing innovative, but this author makes genre clichés her bitch. For an indie release, the writing is always straightforward and decently edited.

What makes her a one-click buy is that all her books enter territory that is just this side of fucked up. I mean taboos that skirt the expectations about what is appropriate in these types of romance novels; from a dub-con spanking scene of the MC in front of several non-love interests (Royals of Sanguine Vampire Academy) to a sexually unapologetic protagonist threatening bodily harm while she blows one of the heroes (Royal Fae Academy). Girl, never change.

In this series, Unity stumbles into being transformed from subjugated human to second-class high fae, and forms an inconvenient connection to four princes that already have fiancées. As it turns out, the fae are repressed puritans who uphold a strict set of rules (at least, when it's convenient). Their society is pretty patriarchal, in part due to female fae having very restrictive reproductive systems.

It's a decent setup to explain the one-dimensional slut-shaming mean girls that carry out most of the dirty work against the MC. What happens next is pretty much exactly what you would expect. Public humiliation, unforeseen victories, developing feelings, obvious misdirection, etc.

Daniel uses fated mates as a plot device, not to mention falls a little bit into the they're so mean to me so why do I want to fuck them? trap—two things I loathe. That being said, the effects of those contrivances are mitigated by the inherent tension of a (good) bully romance and the departure from good-girl-meets-bad-boy(s) tropes.

It's a smutfest, but I dunno why anyone would complain about that.

There are many words I would use to describe this book and most are not good. I’ll admit I was completely deceived by the blurb-it’s intriguing and even though the story was a little off putting for the first 25% it wasn’t all that bad. But oh my lord did everything go to shit from there. If I didn’t need this book for points in a group I know I NEVER would have finished this. Other reviewers were not lying this is trash and I actually felt grossed out reading this. Just a few complaints before I go try and sanitize and erase my brain, the blurb makes the book out to be a semi enemy to lovers romance but that is 100% not the case. In fact all of the guys already have fated mates. Mates they all want and choose. I won’t even say this was a bully romance, there was bullying-it was so much worse and there’s certainly wasn’t any romance. This girl and I hate to use this word but she’s a SLUT and will knowingly barter sexual favors with anyone. While I’m all for ‘you do you boo,’ and free love this heroine really grossed me out. She becomes involved in a blowjob competition (I couldn’t make this shit up) with the Princes in which she’s supposed to outdo the Princes Fated’s. She had a relationship if we can call it that, for years, that provided her and her sister the ability to “gain things.” This guy treats her like trash and she recognizes this but it’s like she’s in heat and can’t resist him even when he sums up their relationship with her as his whore. I absolutely hated how demeaning this all was, I read all kinds of crazy shit and this was really disturbing. It’s like a really bad 80s porn where the heroine is just a piece of meat and she’s completely driven by lust and hormones, lacking a brain of any type. Every single Prince is an entitled pompous asshole and that’s putting it lightly. They are not likable in the least and they not only don’t care about the heroine, they have no qualms about trying to kill her. I mean they are literally the ones who create a Battle to the Death between her and their Fateds. Not to mention at the end their betrothed sends Helen to the Dark Fae prison admit they stole her magic, dabbled with the dark arts and created the fate bonds between them and the princes. Call me crazy but that means the girls manipulated all of them and not only was the Queen, their mother, pleased with them, nobody, even the guys seemed to care that their bonds were fake. Wtf?!? Then again they’re all fucking evil and psycho so they deserve each other smh. Even the end could not redeem itself and I would seriously not ever ever ever recommend this book, it was just bad, bad, BAD 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤬🤮🤬🤦🏽‍♀️

This was so bad.... so bad. Like really bad porn for teens. Oh no, I'm pretty, oh no four princes want to mate me, oh no have to fight for my life and it somehow involves sucking everyone's dick.

Very cookie cutter, not very enthralling, weird "erotic" parts, kinda lame.

We have the Fae Island that humans live on. We have hate, trouble, unknown and more. Unity and Sicily are human sisters that live on the Island. One day Unity made a remark and now one of the fae lady’s are after her. They think of running, but Sicily gets something in her had, now Unity is trying to find her. What will happen on her journey? Will she find her sister? Will something bad happen to her? What about the prince’s and their mates what will they do?

Ouch

There are so many things about this book that I loved - and hated. First, the writing is spot on, and the flow of the narrative well done.... but... dang, this really is a bully. Ok, so the guys in question don’t REALLY do anything to get, but they darn sure don’t stop it, and flat out participate in public humiliation. Ugh. That said, I still enjoyed it, but at least 2 of the 4 princes will have to undergo done major character development for redemption in my mind. Fortunately, we haven’t glimpsed enough into their mindsets yet to know if they are cruel, or just faced with a situation they don’t want.

Interesting Beginning

I was very interested in the world created, the cut off humans, the various magical creatures and the fae school. However, I didn't feel any connection to a single prince. Everything was also a little too demanding of sex in exchange for things, it just became stale. I did like Unity as a character. She was strong but not annoyingly sassy. Her determination to save her sister was also key. The cliffhanger at the end got my attention.

A wonderful way to start a series!! Unity "accidentally" kills a Dark Fae that curses her on his last breath. The next thing she knows is she's no longer human but is now a Fae herself. Whether she likes it or not she feels it'll help her find her missing sister. Her plan is to blend in, keep to herself and basically not get noticed. Except when the four royal Prince's walk into the room everyone sees she is to be their mate. All of theirs. Which Unity doesn't want, they don't want and the four girls who were supposed to be mates with them already definitely don't want! So much for keeping it on the down low...

I've realized that out of all the paranormal creatures I've read about the Fae are usually the meanest of them all. You go to say something they may not like and they don't give you a chance before throwing their magic at you and turning you into ice or something! Lol

Adventure and paranormal RH what else do you need?

This story was not what I expected. Unity is a strong heroine forced into the FAE world and immediately set upon to face death. This story doesn't stop moving. The plot is engaging and very steamy in parts.

Since when is oral part of a Fae Trials????? Or any trial for that matter. I could not finish this book and I tried really hard to force myself but I couldn’t get past page 259 when the blacksmith asked for oral???? (eye roll) It started off very good and I admit I initial clicked on it because the cover drew my attention as well as the synopsis. However, I want my time back. So Unity Quayle is a human and is trying to save her sister Sicily from the dark Fae. But it turns out or so she’s been told; her life is a lie or glamour or a fake life and she’s really a fae and was hidden from the fae for whatever reason there maybe. Of course I don’t know any truth to it because I didn’t finish the book. The fae princes are top grad A-hole and bullies along with the princess who are the epitome of mean girls with a side of B****. This book was just not for me. Maybe someone else will enjoy it but I did not.

Talk about harsh...

Not sure why this book does not have a higher rating. It's unique, interesting, and has you on the edge of your seat! I was even mad when I reached the ending because that cliffhanger leaves you wanting more.
Ok, so our heroine could use some finesse and she may make some..not so smart decisions. But there is room to grow! Not all stories have unicorns and rainbows...ok so this one had some unicorns, but you get the point. I might not side with her choices, but it was still an intriguing story.

Unity is one to make mistake after mistake, but her main goal is to find her missing sister. It isn't easy when no-one believes you and everyone seems to have forgotten you. Add to it that her 'fated mates' really want nothing to do with her and want to end her life. It is simply a recipe for disaster.

Putting aside Unity's...poor choices, the story really is a page-turner. It was worth the read to me...

Much about nothing..

Nothing good about this book.. The continuous side porn talk was not erotic at all. This was about a human turned fae who is too poor so the only way she can get through life is to sleep with the janitor of the academy.

Then when she got to the academy, it was downhill from there. The bullying was overdone and the mc has no power except to suck c**k. I don't mind bullying but there has to be some reprieve. The storyline sounded interesting except the excessive bullying, weak mc, and constant porn talked ruined it for me. The ending was ridiculous and did not make sense. The romance was weak or moot.

Lots of mixed feelings about this series. I just finished reading all three so the review covers everything as a whole.

Something caught my attention with book 1, was it boredom? The aftermath of being stuck in bed sick for a week and needing something (anything) to read?

I'm not entirely sure.

The smut level definitely went beyond what I usually read but parts of the story line kept my attention enough to finish the series.

The FMC was okay, she cared about friends/family and wasn't judgmental of others like many were. But she was also annoying and definitely let her sexual desires take importance.

My issues: many parts felt disconnected and caused the story not to flow. One minute this was happening and then suddenly a huge jump/change to something entirely different, even down to character attitudes. It was a bit like whiplash and I found myself going back to reread thinking I missed something.

Also, the nonstop DVD/reality TV show mentions/comparisons got super annoying. Ok, we get it! A few times, sure but it was so overused that it took away from the story, took the reader out of the story and just felt ....annoying.

I felt some things weren't fully explained or resolved.
*(possible) spoiler alert*
The dark fae Unity encounters in the forest.... am I missing the full explanation? At one point its mentioned they were 5 dark princes(?) And the one that cursed her said she now had his destiny(?) And headmistress mentions him by name and what he did...... I feel none of that was really fully explained. Glossed over, mentioned but just left (me at least) wondering what exactly.

And umm hello! Unity went from determined to save Helen to just... what? Why was that not resolved? I want to know Helen's fate. For such a big part of the story, it's simply left dangling at the end.

There's a few more things but those were my biggest issues/annoyances.

It's an OK read, enjoyable at times, definitely got the smut in there if that's your thing. The storyline was interesting enough that I wanted to finish to know what happened but ...yeah....

God awful. Just no.

What. Did. I. Just. Read. How do I give negative stars? I'm legitimately mad that I just gave several hours of my life to this horrible book. I just...I'm struggling with how to describe it. Every single character is TRASH. All of them. They're horrendous and I've never read a book where I just wanted everyone to die off. The main character, Unity, tries to act tough-ish, but she's a doormat who pants and moans for any guy who even looks twice at her. I'm all for sexual freedom and not putting misogynistic double standards on women, but by god, Unity was just trash. A bad judge of character, whiny, all over the place, not smart, reckless... And then the 4 male children who are supposed to be her love interests/fated mates/harem?...I couldn't hate/be bored with 4 characters more. There isn't a redeeming quality in any of them, and there are 4 of them. Somehow, they're even more whiny, spoiled, cruel, vindictive, and bigger liars than Unity. Impressive. I like bully romances if they're done well where the chemistry builds along with the tension/angst, but this was NOT like that. The 4 princes are pampered douches, through and through. There's zero real chemistry between Unity and any of them. How pathetic is she over her trash ex-boyfriend, Elijah, who treats her like a prostitute, tells her she was basically only for sex, refuses to help her, yells at her, then breaks up with her and ditches her, leaving her to her impending death? Then suddenly, she sees him at the academy, she's STILL calling him her boyfriend, and she literally cannot wait to perform oral on him as he humiliates her in front of the school. Again, I...what did I just read? What was that??

I definitely, 100%, do not recommend.

The book has some interesting concepts and had a solid start, but didn't execute the setup properly. All the parts needed to make the story good were available, but the author did not manage to thread them together such that the final product is greater than the sum of its parts. This has a lot of world-building, and a lot of it is just not used to its potential. I feel like the author was in a rush to incorporate as much of the genre as she could without developing any of the ideas to fit the plot and characters. Things shifted from the village to the school too quickly for me, and I am still not sure why the author even bothered to make the setting for the plot a school. The female MC has not spent very much time on studies or classes at all.

The male characters are as reprehensible as you'd expect from a book from this genre, and the female antagonists are shallow. Just for once I'd like to see female characters in a novel of this genre that did not get weak at the knees at a simple glance of their 'fated' males. But I suppose this is unfair since I chose to read a book written for an audience that demands exactly that. What I will say is that a lot of work needs to be done to rehabilitate the princes, and as far as I can see, two of them are lost causes. At the moment, the author has not actually created any emotional bonds or common experiences that can bring the characters together. They seem to be bonding on sexual chemistry alone, which is boring to read.

Overall, this is a book worth skimming through for the bare plot.

2.5 Had so much expectation Stars

Okay I'll be honest here. There are PNR RH books that are better written than this one. First of all, I thought that the writing style of the author was all over the place. There's no proper world building and we directly plunge into the story with no clear idea of the world. I wish the beginning started off a little slow so we could understand the fae world better.

There's no character development. I liked the heroine initially but then she doesn't really grow much. I didn't like the guys either.

Everything is sexed up. The heroine gives a guy a blow job just because, and everything is sexualized (which I don't mind) but there's not a speck of emotions other than lust - and I was here for the bully PNR RH plot.

The plot's a mess as I said. It has a lot of potential but I feel like the emotions were missing throughout. Everything's just going on with no real reason or point to it.

The ending confused me more than anything. Nothing actually kept me hooked other than wanting to finish the book asap because I wanted to know where it'd go.

But, I am curious about where the plot is going. So I'll (maybe) read the next book.

This series is pretty bad, but I still read through the whole thing in a couple of days.

The story feels like it makes nonsensical jumps in places, there were several times when I was confused as to why or how what was going on was actually a thing, and the love interests turn around from hating the heroine to liking her seemingly at random.

Despite the fact there isn't much plot to speak of, and you have to keep uncrossing your eyes from rolling them so often, the first book kept me entertained and had an overarching plot that I wanted answers to enough that I bought and read the second and third books (though I'm not sure we ever really get an answer to what's going on, and it seems one plot point is left to an entirely new upcoming series).

I'd say if you understand going in that these books are pretty trash, and read them for a bit of lighthearted fun and smut, you can get a few good evenings of entertainment out of these.

This book had so much potential, but it fell extremely short. For starters, it’s said that Unity has brown hair in chapter 1-2, and later on, it’s blonde. There were a TON of editing issues, misspelled words, or missing words even. Next, I didn’t feel ANY chemistry between Unity and the princes. It felt really out of place for Caulden to suddenly want her just because she touched him intimately. Also… she was going around doing sexual favors for everyone it seemed. Elijah, the Centaur, the Princes, anyone who asked basically.

As for the trials… this book was supposed to be about trials and there were only 2 she had to do. A BJ and collecting some stone. It also didn’t make sense how Caulden is the one who requested the BJs and then said he’d never let Unity touch him when it was his idea to begin with.

There are a lot of holes and things that just don’t add up in this book.

Reverse Harem: 4 Fairy Princes Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter

Sex:Oral

She is 18 ran into a spoiled princess to be that will basically make her life hell. Her and her sister decide to run away to avoid her going through this. But on in the middle of the night her sisters runs away to make a deal to save her sister the deal will be made with dark fairy. Needles to say things go wrong her sister disappears and all of a sudden she is a fairy sent to a fairy academy. This is basically current time but on an Island for mythical creatures. They mention Ipads, The Real Housewives and even Survivor. The princes do not like her they think her lowly. I will check out the next once and see where it goes.

Princes are Jerks

I am so addicted to this drama. Unity goes from being human to a half blood and everyone thinks she has false memories. I find it interesting that she keeps getting propositioned all of the time. She has only had one lover for a few years and therefore she is easy. Doesn't make sense but the morality in fae society seems mideival even though supposedly this is in modern times. There isn't a lot of world building yet so hopefully more gets explained later.

The Fae princes are all jerks so I am not sure how they will be redeemed for Unity to be with them. My favorite character is her friend Helen. She has beendenied her fate but hasn't given up. I admire her and Unity. I am hoping Flores continues to be a good friend as well.

Hmmm

I'm not sure just yet. Its catchy but it feels a bit forced. After losing her sister and getting cursed she is thrown into this academy and boom, she's supposedly mated to the 4 princes. Then the bullying and trials even though she doesn't want to be mated in the first place. Everyone in this place seems to want sexual favors for whatever and everyone seems to be jerks for no reason. That ending irritated me the most. The king and queen r supposed to rule the people but it just seems like the queen is a childish tw*t and neither listened to what Helen had to say. So ooo I can't tell if I'm just mad at the ending or what but I will say I'm intrigued enough to continue just to see the fated get what's coming to them hopefully.

Talk about a not fair(y) trial

I’m not getting much of an academy feel from this book. Although there IS an academy, it’s more of a background scene than them actually going to classes or anything. The trials are what’s important and that doesn’t seem very structured at all. That aside, I like the take on Faery being this island isolated from the modern world. Excited to see what these fae heats are like, learn about Pokeweed’s past, figure out if Helen and Unity are going to become rivals over the Prince harem, and watch these conniving jerks get their due *ahem, Elijah, payback better be a bitch to you*

What an ending 🤯

Like most people who have read this book, I was sucked in by the Facebook advertisement featuring her glowing wings in response to the four prince's glowing wings.

Suffice it to say that this book was a whole lot more than some glowing wings.

Spicy scenes were minimal but hot. The princes are enticing to the least. I'm ready for more of this story.

I need Unity to find her sister. I need Elijah to get a comeuppance. I need the Fateds to die grisly deaths and, frankly, Titania is right up there too. I also need Pokeweed to find love because he wonderful and beyond precious and deserves everything in this world.

Princes Rory and Cauldron? Mmmmmm. Delicious.

What drew me into this book was it's cover and blurb. Having read and loved Sofia Daniels books already, I had high hopes for this series. And it was exactly what I expected. Beautifully written and had me completely engrossed into the story. I loved the mystery and how there wasn't instant love. The trials were exciting and had great thought throughout. This fae book was brilliant and is a definite must read. But be warned, it has a massive cliffhanger and you will instantly go to grab book 2 as soon as you finish this!

What a fantastic start to a series

4 Fae Princes and 1 cursed human Fae hybrid; how will Unity survive the Royals and their conniving Fated Mates? I can't get to book 2 fast enough to see what happens next.

Unity tries to survive the Fae Fated Trials at the Royal Fae Academy after being cursed by a dying Dark Fae while trying to rescue her sister from making a terrible bargain to save Unity from retribution. Oh this is getting good. Book 2 and 3 are already available for purchase.

Not bad

This was an interesting read. It's a bit confusing to begin with. It's not clear on why they are where they are but there's plenty of vague references which make the whole ordeal confusing. Once you get past that, it's pretty decent. Not the best story, it's definitely lacking in depth but interesting enough to keep reading. The ending didn't make much sense honestly but I'm hoping book 2 clears that up. It's really more of a 3.5 but I'm rounding up as it's not really deserving of a 3.
