I'm growing to enjoy Cable's story thanks to this run but damn his history-future-whatever arcs are hard to keep track. Especially if you're new to his character and not really interested in digging up the older comics for his appearances.

But hey this issue has Domino, whom I really like, in a perkier version than her usually angsty existentialist self in X-Force. So yay! I like how Domino's superpower is ineffable enough that Duggan can do ridiculous things with it to lighten up the story. That meteorite? What the hell 😂 It's almost as good at the Improbability Button in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

The writers really don't know what to do with Cable's personality. Where throughout the 90s he was gruff, competent, and militant, this younger version of him is... I don't know. Sometimes writers try to say that he is impulsive, or stupid. In this issue Kid Cable belittles the older version of himself, saying that the old one didn't clean up his messes. ... That seems inaccurate.

In this issue Kid Cable thinks to himself that he doesn't know why Apocalypse cloned him to create Stryfe. But we know why. It was explicitly stated in the Adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix series that Apocalypse cloned Stryfe because Nathan was infected with the techno-organic virus as an infant, and we weren't sure he would make it. Stryfe is a redundancy, raised by Apocalypse as an adopted son, and groomed to be a new host body for Apocalypse's consciousness and power. The idea of Apocalypse downloading himself into a new body was the basis for Cyclops' "death" at the conclusion of the event all about "The Twelve!"

But, okay, sure. Say that you don't know why Apocalypse cloned you.

Otherwise, this issue focused a lot on Domino. Gee, aren't her luck powers nifty? And maybe let's talk about the weirdness of her hanging out with the younger version of her ex-lover/friend, who also happens to have murdered her ex-lover/friend.

Clones.

Clones everywhere.

But first, a nice interlude with Domino and Cable, in which Domino laments that Cable used to be too old for her and now he's too young for her. Time travel, eh?

But, yeah, clones, a dozen of them. Cable clones.

This issue is heavy on action, which is, perhaps, not Phil Noto's strong suit, but the art is still lovely, because it's Phil Not, and Phil Noto draws good.

Apparently Stryfe's behind it all, and Stryfe's a clone of Cable, so were they Stryfe clones or Cable clones and is there actually any difference between those two things?

It was also cool to get another glimpse of old man Cable, and I suspect it's Stryfe who's captured him, and that's what will tie these two plotlines together. Maybe.

I'm excited for the next issue as it looks like we're getting some more romance and smooching, which is always fun.

Also if you type "Stryfe" a lot it looks wrong. Although, to be fair, if you type "Stryfe" once it looks wrong too.

I've read other reviews which critique the continuity but for myself I don't see that thanks (I guess?) To my long X hiatus.

Instead I got two characters I like (live in Domino) having a jaunt and developing the story a little more.

The Cable mystique and backstory seems a little baffling with young cable killing old cable or some such... I don't know about all that but it's kind of interesting seeing it all unfold.

I would have liked to see a little more Cable/Domino interaction but we got was good enough and I liked the ending with them. Domino's luck striking at the end was, IMO, a great ending.

I like the Cable arc so far, it's fun and interesting.

Clones!
Lots of them and Domino having the coolest power. I barely noticed the crash course in her powers. Why didn't Cable notice who the babynapper ("baby-napper"? "baby napper"?) was before? You'd think he be able to sense these things. And a flash forward to kid Cable being middle aged? ...I thought retinas were unique like a finger print though. *Switching to google to confirm* ok "not determined by DNA" so Strye programmed kid Cable's retina into the biometrics or the writer skipped the googling? 🤔
Fun continuation and merging of plots. Nice action and a fun convo with Beast. I'm starting to enjoy this book.

So many clones!

But also, we see the universe millions of years ago, and a meteor bumps another meteor. But then it enters Earth's atmosphere now and kills a cable clone, all thanks to Domino's mutant ability of "luck." So, she's a lot more powerful than she looks--her powers are influencing the past, present, and future.

Domino is fun. I wish I understood what happened with old Cable and young Cable, but I don't really think they showed that earlier in the series? Am I supposed to know it or is it all being teased out? Whatever.
