Don’t Wait Til I Die To Love Me vol.1, is a book about the nuances of life and how precious it is. The author takes his readers through a journey of self-discovery. He spills his thoughts and deepest feelings on love in every dimension in vivid detail. Tavon hopes the readers will gain a new outlook on life while learning how to appreciate the little things we take for granted. Don’t Wait Til I Die To Me vol.1 is a simplistic title with a nuanced meaning that can relate to people in many ways. The people who find themselves overlooked or undervalued will resonate with pieces like “To The Ones Who Hurt Me “ and “For The Misunderstood.” Pieces such as “Dying Mother” and “Five Sense” will make the readers remorseful towards humanity and Mother Earth. This book aims to allow each reader to learn more about themselves and become hopeful on their healing journey. Tavon wants his readers to know they’re not alone. He also hopes people will become proactive in loving themselves, other people, and the environment. This book is a guide for the lost souls with many unanswered questions. This is one of the most complete poetry collections of the modern era.
This book of poems was kindly sent by the Author for me to read and review. Now I am no poetry guru because I was in the bottom class all through my Schooling years. But I wish I had been taught how to read poems, because I think I would have enjoyed it. I took 3 pages of notes on this book because they really spoke to me. I was bullied at home and at school and I have had some really tough bosses. These poems spoke to the child in me, spoke to the young woman in me and spoke to the woman I have become. They speak of love and pain, hurt, regret and that sense of loss we can feel in life. They talk about looking back on past relationships with others and with self. They speak of true love, self love and of loving others. They speak of accepting the past, moving forward and of letting go of what drags you down and stops you from coming home to love. At page 104 I had a aha moment, it hit me that these poems are not just speaking of a love between people but also a love for self. That it is ok to feel like crap after a broken relationship but that it also important to move forward to feel the pain but to not let that pain hold you back so that you reliving the hurt and the loss over and over again. I wish I had these words earlier in my life, I don't me breakups because I married my first boyfriend. But from other broken relationships from self and others. Michael Tavon has such a passion for people you can see it in the passion of these poems: To stay alive, to move forward, to give love to yourself and those that come into your life. He has compassion for the homeless, for those who hurt and for those who are overwhelmed by their feelings of pain and anguish. These poems are about life and living and loving and hurting and I think there is compassion and courage and wisdom in the down to earth way they are told. There is strong language and their is a rawness to some of them. Some of them spoke right into my heart and I was nodding along with the words. Some made me smile and some brought me close to tears. Some people won't get these poems but for those who are hurting and struggling and lost in self give them a copy, they are easy to read and they will find understanding and I hope encouragement in them that they will know that it is ok and they will be ok. Some titles of the poems in this book: THE BLUE JAY BEAUTY WITH IN THE HURRICANE LONELINESS LIFE OF A WORKER LIL WONDERER A LETTER TO PAST ME EMOTIONAL PRISON A POEM FOR THE HOMELESS. Some of these poems are 2-3 verses long others full up a page. Thank you once again to Michael Tavon for letting me read and review this book. I wish him all the best. Thank you for writing and sharing these with the world.
I was kindly provided e-ARC by author in exchange of a honest review.
It's always fun to discover a new poetry author for me because I'm still looking for something that would touch me on a personal level. I've read several collections, including names like Rupi Kaur or Amanda Lovelace, but I didn't make a connection for most of the times. That's why I was excited to try Michael Tavon's work. And I'm really glad I did.
Don't Wait Til I Die To Love Me is a collection of poems focusing on a variety of topics, which I think is one of the biggest strenghts of this collection. Authors usually focus only on one topic and that's not bad at all, but I personally prefer variety. This one in particular focuses on things like anxiety, appreciation of yourself and who you are, love, relationships and also earth. It's really easy to understand meaning of these poems and get into them. Some are short, some are longer but you can still fly through them quickly (or slowly, depending on what type of poem reader you really are). It's really important for me to connect to poems on personal level in general and Michael Tavon did that in most of his poems. They made me think (especially ones focused on earth) and feel.
I'd also like to mention graphics of this collection. Some of the poems are followed by illustrations, giving them a bit of aesthetics. I definitely recommend this book and I truly wish it finds wider audience. Poems are easy to understand, relatable and also followed by some nice artwork. Give this book a chance!

2 stars
'Don't Wait Til I Die To Love Me' offers an easy to read collection of poetry. The title is appealing and made me curious about what it's content would be - after reading it, I will say that my review will be one from someone who didn't click with the author's writing, nor did I connect with the poetry, so overall this just wasn't a book for me but I'm glad to see many other people enjoying it!
I don't think that it offered a profound or distinctive approach to the poetry pool, but I always appreciate authors allowing readers to get a glimpse into their personal lives and how they convey it in the form of poetry. Although I don't like poetry to be overly complicated, I do like a certain level of ambiguity and to be challenged to think about what it means or could be interpreted, but this book didn't offer that to me - it offers a more transparent view that you can easily digest. I don't think the verses flowed well because a lot of them seemed quite disjointed in how they were laid out - they read more like a story that kept randomly starting new lines. Different authors have different approaches to poetry so the things that I didn't like about this book may appeal to others. So, this is not a bad book, it just didn't suit my personal taste!
The author kindly provided me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
So I have an addiction for herbal teas and every now and then I would see a different type in the supermarket and end up trying them, but I don't always enjoy them for some reason and this is what happened with this book. I love poetry books and the premise was amazing, I enjoyed a couple of poems but I found the rest hmm okay? I really don't know, maybe I just couldn't connect to them?
However, one poem in specific I would give 6/5 stars! It is called A Letter to the Hearts I Broke and in it, the author acknowledges that he broke some hearts in the past and is asking for their forgiveness, I really appreciated his honesty and openness :)
I was given an advance copy of this book to critique (which really, is super exciting).
The book was very easy to read. It was also the first book I've read on my iPad and not as a solid, tangible piece of literature/poetry- I know, gasp, I might just be coming around finally.
Those things aside, I did really like this book. I'm always on board for something I can digest quickly. I've bookmarked a fair amount of the pages as well (always a good sign!). Some pieces/lines REALLY hit home for me and I can't wait to be able to share those to my social circles once this is publicly released.
Tavon writes about love and past relationships, being hurt and sometime's doing the hurting, future selves and past strangers. But, even better than that he writes about Mother Nature, and the cosmo's. Constellations. The moon. Souls. That's what really sets this piece apart from my recent poetry runs. And, I love it. Politics get hit a little bit too, but not like an overly opinionated smuck who hasn't been educated properly, he doesn't force anything on you, but opens your eyes more to a notion you've not yet considered yourself.
Some of my favorite pieces included: "Eviction Notice II", "The Courage", "Soul of Poets", "Unremember You", "Utopia"*, Moon Moods"*, "The Frauds", "Fuck Ice", "Fatal Situationship"*
Lines that are most definitely going to be recorded into my journal of quotes/used to caption pictures in the feature: "Love is a gun, and you're a sex pistol" "We beg Father Time to refund two thousand yesterdays" "Say goodbye to the people who only love you when it's convenient for them" "Mother Nature does not apologize for her raw emotions, neither should you"
So, why only 3 stars? I did like it. I really liked it. But I didn't love it. I'm not sure what would need to happen for me to love it. Maybe a second read, lol. I guess as a whole I didn't relate heavily to the piece, but when dissected I connected to enough pieces to really enjoy it. Also, I don't think it needs the illustrations. They kind of threw me off when they suddenly showed up. The pictures didn't make me like the book any less, I just don't think they're important to telling the story.
I'll most likely recommend and probably buy a tangible copy for my shelf, old habits die hard.
First of all, thank you to the author for a pdf copy of “Don’t Wait Til I Die To Love Me”.
Reading this book: marking each and every single poem in this collection and realizing that I can’t quote EVERY one in my recommendation.
I really enjoyed reading the poems. Each one let me feel something different and inspired me, motivated me. I don’t like to give stars because I think it’s always up to the readers book taste, but if I had to, I’d give 5/5 stars for this poetry collection because I loved each poem.
This book is so so good and full of love. First, let us talk about the title: “Don’t Wait Til I Die To Love Me”. I wanted to read this book the exact moment I’ve read the title! It’s perfect!
“Maybe, I was placed in your life to be there When you were falling apart And once you put the pieces back together, You felt strong enough To stand on your own Thank you for allowing me in during Your most difficult time And trusting me to place bandages On your broken heart Just know if you ever need me again I’m one call away“ There’s just something about this lines.. love it!
The perfect book for a person who needs to let go of someone or something.
I love books that make you question something and make you thoughtful in a good way. Like this lines:
“Would a blue jay stop flying After being knocked down by a few storms? I doubt it. So why are we afraid to love After we get hurt? Pain should make us Want to love harder Not become distant, Or seek vengeance,”
Not only this book tries to help you deal with love it also reminds you how you should treat people. And that’s so important!
His poems are full of truth and everyone will find a piece of himself in this book and will enjoy it because in the end we love to talk about ourselves but what we love more is reading about us and the things we can’t describe.
Sometimes it’s heartbreakingly true, other times it’s just all you need.
“The world ain’t fair You deserve more”, like reading this poetry book. Do it!
Many thanks to Michael Tavon for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
1. I was expecting to receive a copy with the cover page, which I didn't. So I guess I shouldn't give any comment about the cover :)
2. Reading these poems make me remember about my past. It feels so far away, yet so familiar. I found so many poems here feel so personal for me. Even some lines evoked the deepest fear of myself. Like in The Message. .... So please, Be good to those you love No hour is guaranteed
Because losing someone, with conflicts unresolved Words never said, And messages unread
Is the type of guilt That will eat you alive
3. My favorite ones are : 1) life of a worker; 2) Life and Death; 3) Her Story II (it was so me); 3) Blue Jay; 4) The Flight; 5) Utopia; 6) Love You. However there are some poems I don't really enjoy due to rather shallow words in my opinion: 1) Hotter Than July; 2) Full Moon; 3) Stuck; 4) Goodnights.
4. Despite the quite simple illustration (which I think could still be better), overall Michael Tavon's poems are beautiful, really beautiful (I don't exaggerate anything). They have a very captivating choice of words, with charming rhymes and deep meaning.
5. My conclusion is... this book really deserves a much larger audiences.

When I finished this book, I was inside the bus on my commute to home and the torrent of feelings that washed over me was immense, to the point where I couldn't hide the tears anymore. Public breakdown because of books apparently are my specialty.
Michael Tavon's writing is beautifully crafted and at the same time, so simple, relatable. I was in shock at how much I saw myself in his words. There were specific poems that made me think he had written exclusive for me and they made me very emotional. I was reading and inside my head, re-living so many episodes of my life, some from the past, some recent ones, some good and some bad.
Writing about love seems easy, but then you have to remind yourself that love can manifest itself in various forms and that not always is a good thing, and having to read that in some of his poems was not easy, and even gave me some discomfort. In the end though, when I started reflecting upon it, I understood that his words were raw but true.
As I said above, this book gave me all the feels and I'm so glad that I had the opportunity to read it. Michael Tavon has talent and I hope he continues on giving the literary world, such amazing pieces.
I thought the premise of this collection is really cool before starting it, but I quickly realised this isn't something suitable for my taste. The poems discussed variety of topics, and it's great that author wasn't afraid to get personal in his writing. Unfortunately, his pieces didn't do much for me as I was left feeling slightly indifferent. I didn't like the format of the poems and majority of them felt cliche to me, despite their diversity content wise.
This book feels like something I've already seen before, even though I never read it. It may be due to author's approach to writing, but whatever it is, it made me completely disconnected from the emotions in poems. This could've been something I really like, but I guess that just wasn't the case.
Thanks to the author Michael Tavon for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was able to connect and relate to the words within the book. As I was reading, some of the poems reminded me of my old self, and others of my current self. For me, Don’t Wait Til I Die To Love Me was a reminder of parts of my past and the growth I’ve made. Life is a journey and this book reflects part of the process. Definitely worth the read and one I will likely read again and again.
It was like he wrote straight to music soul. He has the ability to take what I am thinking and feeling and is able to put it into words so eloquently. This is a must read and I can’t wait for the finished product. I am now a new fan of this body of work. This is a gem.
I absolutely love this book. I could relate to almost every page Tavon has written. His words pulled on my heart strings. Some of his pieces even brought tears to my eyes & I can tell he put his heart into this book. I look forward to reading more of his work.
While I appreciate poetry and the poets who write words that speak to people, I find I am extremely picky when it comes to the poetry I enjoy. Don’t Wait Til I Die To Love Me is a collection many seem to have loved, which left me curious. Unfortunately, I did not connect to these poems as much as I had hoped.
Although there were a handful of poems in this collection that I did enjoy, I was indifferent to the majority. It made those I did enjoyed stand out more, yet it also made me realise how many I read without feeling much. I can certainly see many enjoying most of the poems, though, as I think it was mainly a case of me not connecting.
All in all, while this wasn’t for me, I can understand why many enjoyed this.
"Don't wait til I die to love me Wash away my doubts and fears Shower me with praise While I'm still here"
Before starting my review, I'd like to let anyone who's reading this that the author sent me a free copy of this book. Thank you, Michael! The author doing that no way affects my opinion about this book. Now, onto my review.
We often take for granted the people around us, and often celebrate them only once they die—that's wrong, we should appreciate the people we have in our lives right now. This book has themes of change and repentance. The poems are stimulating and poignant, and I enjoyed reading every single one them. I found it pretty difficult to stop myself from reading it, I wanted to keep going. Furthermore, the illustrations in some of the poems are simple but memorable (I like the drawing in Hotter than July). Just like the poems, they are uniquely Michael's. Below are some of my favorite poems included in this book, and my interpretations of them.
Her Story II - I could relate to this a lot since I used to be an open book, but now I only let a few people read me.
Blue Jay - this is a poem about how hesitant we've become when it comes to love these days, and how we shouldn't be.
The Message - this poem is about how not holding yourself back from saying things to your loved ones.
Track Star - unrequited love is the main theme of this poem, and about how we chase the ones who can't love us back.
A Letter to the Past Me - I really connected with this one, and I'm not going to say more about it than that since I don't want to spoil it.
Loneliness - as the title suggests, this poem is about loneliness. Michael perfectly captured the feeling of being lonely in this one, but at the same time, he puts emphasis on self-love and it ends on a good note.
I'm not going to hide this review because of spoilers, because poems mean different from person to person. I hope this review will make you want to get this book, I highly recommend reading it.
I really love the way you write as a poet and how your words sort of fit my current or past situations. Please keep up the good work Michael, you are truly an inspiring poet.
I received a free copy of Don't Wait 'til I Die to Love Me from the author in exchange for an honest review. Though I love to read and write poetry, I'm wary of a lot of modern collections because they sometimes stretch the idea of what counts as poetry to the point of laziness. It's hard to critique those collections since poetry, as an art form, is subjective--but I still say there's a fine line between free verse and 2 lines of consciousness that could pass for a quirky tweet. Michael Tavon's book did not fall into this trap. His poetry touches on anxiety, what it means to be loved, and the importance of telling those you love that you love them before it's too late. I enjoyed how lyrical a lot of the poems were, and can definitely see myself going back to re-read some of them. My favourites include 'Stargazer' and 'The Power of Words'. Overall, Don't Wait 'till I Die to Love Me is a sweet, thoughtful collection I thoroughly enjoyed reading!
**I was given an advanced copy to read in exchange for an honest review.**
I don't think that this collection of poetry was necessarily bad, but I do think that it's not the type of poetry that I really resonate with. It was written more as a random set of stories rather than the poetry I enjoy, the sort that hits a chord inside you and forces you to think about things in a larger setting. It's an easy read if you don't want to think about things too much and if you're looking for something that will easily pass the time. Unfortunately, that's not why I ever get into reading poetry. I like to have pieces that I have to think about and ones that force me to consider other ideals rather than my own.
I am thrilled to see so many people enjoyed reading it, but I found myself wanting so much more while reading. All of the poems seemed fairly superficial and lacked a lot of the depth I like to find when reading poetry. I don't think that means the collection itself is poor, just that I have a preference for a different sort of style. And we all know that poetry is something that can be difficult to grasp the attention of readers. There's no set form to poetry, which makes writing it difficult.
I applaud the author for putting together these pieces. I just wish a lot of the poems weren't so simplistic or cliche. A lot of it just felt like things I've seen or read or heard before, but that in no way means it's bad. I'm sure many people will find this set of poems to be to their liking, but I'm more picky in general when it comes to what I read, so my personal preferences aside - I definitely wouldn't say you should pass up the chance to read this one. Just keep an open mind while you do it.
Don't Wait Till I Die To Love Me by Michael Tavon is good reading for self-love. It contains our deepest thoughts that we couldn't share or express to anyone. The kind of thoughts that we fear society might chastise us. One of my favorites; talks about girl hides her feelings and thoughts from the world feared that she couldn't find anyone to embrace her vulnerability. It is a good book to read as it helps to build more confidence in oneself, to appreciate their own body and mind instead of trying to get something that is unattainable due to insecurities (like how the world is now portrayed through social media platforms; flawless beauty, wealth, lifestyle) I would recommend this book once its release.
4.5 stars I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to read this amazing collection before the release date. I loved it obviously! 4.5 stars!
I felt so much reading this, I felt the pain in the words, the past struggles, the heartache and heartbreak. But I also felt the love and enjoy and just the raw emotion in every single poem.
There was everything in here, poems about love and lose, fighting and losing battles, growing as a person and coming to know and love yourself as well.
I could relate to so many of these poems, they made me think about life and the world and also my past.
It was great and I am for sure reading more from him in the future, along with picking up his past collections!!
As with Atticus works, I’m not a poetry buff. However the poems and style within this work are very touching.
The author does a good job of expressing the theme which quite obviously love, whether it is new love, old love, the type you are trying to let go or that which you are trying to express.
This is something I can strongly relate to right now and I found very relevant. So, I might be a little biased towards my appraisal of this work lol. With that being said, it is really filled with good advice and ideas for anyone at pretty much any stage in life and love.
When it becomes available, I definitely recommend giving this a try.
I want to thank the author for lending me an advanced copy of his work in return for an honest review, you did a wonderful job here.
First, I'd like to take a moment to thank the author, Michael Tavon for personally messaging me offering me a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really nice collection of poetry. I love that he writes about many different things instead of just repeating the same thing over and over. I love the little scribbles of art work throughout as well. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I don't personally agree with all of his feelings but I can't seriously fault him for it because the way he writes said feelings is very nice. It was a quick easy and enjoyable read and I will definitely be looking into purchasing his other books.
*** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review**
I have never read any of Tavon's work before but I have to say I was impressed. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this collection of poetry. Tavon's work shined light on a variety of topics. It's promise to "DWTID2LM will take its reader through an emotional journey." followed through. I found myself highlighting and bookmarking pages and lines that spoke to me. It definitely makes me interested in reading his previous works to see what I've missed.
My first read from this author and I was very pleased with his way of creating. Very refreshing, many topics were discussed, not your typical heartbreaking topics, but more broad. A strong man you can tell just off this collection. I’m happy I got a chance to read and fall in love with his work. I can’t wait to read more of his books. Great work Michael!
(I received a ebook copy exchange for an honest review)
I received a free e-copy of this collection in exchange for an honest review!
I did enjoy this collection, but I found myself connecting to the second half more than the first half. To me, the poems in the second half had a better flow to them and I found myself feeling more emotionally involved. I have never read anything by this author before but I think I would definitely pick up another collection of his in the future!
I’ve enjoyed reading this collection of poems and am looking forward to read more of the author. I personally prefer shorter poems but did not mind reading these poems, because they are easy to read. I like the small illustrations added here and there and would certainly recommend ‘Don’t Wait Till I Die To Love Me’ to anyone interested in poems about love.
Deeply personal, yet very relatable. You know a poetry collection is good when you want to share many verses on social media and with friends because of the impact they have on you. Looking forward to the release date to share some of these beautiful words with my circle. Thank you for offering me this book in an exchange for a review. It was a pleasure.
