The world is ending, but life goes on. It is the 2200’s and the sun has turned against the Earth, ravaging it with deadly solar flares that the people have named “Solar Rain”. Unable to find a solution to their plight, humanity flees across the stars in waves of colony ships. Captain Jaysid Moors is a security officer overseeing humanity’s long departure over decades. A simple enough task if not for the constant Solar Rain and the emergence of a fanatical insurgency, intent on making sure Earth is the final resting place for the human race. Jaysid’s greatest fear is becoming separated from his family across the mind boggling reality of space travel. But as he fights harder to defend the passage of the ones he loves, his fears may end up becoming a reality.
Solar Rain is a refreshing take on the post-apocalyptic genre. I found it to be creative in how the technology dealt with the challenges of facing a planetary evacuation.
Having the world ending event coming from something other than climate change or alien invasion made for an interesting story.
I liked the main characters, I found them to be accessible and relatable. The ending was quite poignant yet realistic given the scenario.
I was given this book for free by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Ordinarily I wouldn't consider myself too much of a sci-fi buff, but Sean has really managed to make me question myself here with Solar Rain. He has clearly poured a lot of soul into the book and into the characters. From the beginning until the very end, I found myself gripped to each page as I wanted to learn more from each character and taste a little bit more of their suffering world. Not only is it incredible fiction but I'd dare say it is an eye opener to the potential ideals of our future. Definitely recommended and I hope to see more from Sean! Especially a potential sequel to this story.
It took awhile but we finally got our act together and stopped killing the planet. Then one day the oceans boiled and the race was on to save the race of Man. The dinosaurs had a space rock we have solar flares; will we survive or succumb. Great book.
An interesting story! I did enjoy this, something a little different for end of the world! Sometimes virus's can be boring, so this is a nice fresh change! I will look for more by this writer!
Solar flares that kill those caught out and the solar rain that slowly destroying the planet Earth, so will mankind survive? Although most individuals hoped to survive some way or other either by being chosen for another planet yet or build underground. Yet, others attempt to stop them believing man should only stay on this planet regardless. Is there a book 2?
This was an interesting story of a family split apart by the necessity of leaving the planet and how they rejoined at the colony. You could feel the love between the brothers and one brother and his wife. This isn't a love story, it is also about how evil human nature can be with men killing others just because they dared to leave their failing planet.
blah blah blah ...Man Made planet destruction from breathing, and cow farts. Sorry don't buy it We do have pollution BUT it's getting better and the Earth would just shuck us off like fleas if we were really doing it harm. Just my Observation .Climate Change = weather...duh
