A friend recommended this and I'm so glad I read it. It is a new take on the haunted house premise, with lots of very surprising twists. The author has a unique and trendy style of writing, bringing a freshness to the plot, and her characters and dialogue are spot on. A very enjoyable book!

It has taken me a while to get to S.Feaker's debut Uninvited Others ... I mean I met her on FB just before she published it and now she's released a sequel and about to release the third. Damn, I'm slow. The best part of that though is that I can jump straight into the sequel!

Feaker's storytelling really draws you into this haunted house story. Her description is beautiful and you truly feel like you're at Haven Manor. I don't often read gothic horror, but I loved the prose and the story was fabulous and well-paced. I kept putting it down in the first half but I tell you once it gets going it's a real page-turner. I really enjoyed it.

Give her some more time and S.Feaker will be up there with the big guns. She's a born storyteller and I'm looking forward to reading more of her books.

Summer is Coming!

Uninvited Others is the first installment of the Haven Manor trilogy, and it was absolutely superb! Summer has fantastic prose, she build’s dread throughout the story, and makes you feel like you are with the people at Haven Manor.
Summer has a way with making you loathe a character early on, or love one, and later flipping the switch on you. It is something in writing that I hold dear, and it isn’t an easy task to perform!
I absolutely loved this novel, and Feaker did a stupendous job! If you are a fan of gothic horror I highly suggest this read. It is a modern gothic horror that felt like the equivalent of reading the Netflix versions of The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor in that the building of dread and environment are there, but the ghosts and entities are much more terrifying than the great Shirley Jackson’s original The Haunting of hill house. This tale will stick with me for quite some time to come.

The writing seemed choppy in the beginning but improved towards the end. There were some grammatical errors. Loved the storyline and will read the second book when it comes out. It was good but I don’t think I would read it more than once.

A haunted past becomes a nightmare as Jeremiah, his wife Scarlett, and their young children have to leave their simple life when Jeremiah’s mother passes on. Now the family has to move in to Jeremiah’s childhood home to help with his father. The family has always struggled financially and Scarlett is aghast when she finds out about the mansion her husband grew up in and all the servants they have. She starts to wonder what other secrets he might be keeping.
She quickly finds out as malevolent ghosts attack and threaten her family. A multigenerational curse brings terror when what seemed like a dream come true turns into a fight for survival.
Dark, freaky, with twisted evil spirits that will make you want to put the book away but with plot and characters that make you not want to stop.

Fun read

This was a fun fast paced read. It was full of all things a haunted house should contain. The story was simple and the connections between some characters was a bit unclear. I didn’t really get the whole magical beast lion backstory, but I loved the imagery. The author did a great job transporting you into the story. I felt like I could feel the chill in the air, the descriptive smells and the terror brought by each of the ghosts. It was very spooky and just what I was looking for. The author was able to create some genuinely scary moments, without having to resort to using shock value.

Usually haunted house stories are all the same. This one was quite a surprise. Different ghosts with different stories all trapped by a malevolent force. I am looking forward to reading the next two books to see how it all ends.

Uninvited Others is the debut novel by Summer Feaker. This is book one of the Haven Manor trilogy and it is off to a great start. Uninvited Others is a lush, gothic ghost story set in modern times. A small family has their lives uprooted when the beloved grandmother passes away, her last wish being that her son, Jeremiah, move back home to the family estate to help care for his father. Against his better judgement and the wishes of his young family, he packs them up to move to Haven Manor. His loving wife Scarlett knows nothing of Haven Manor or the family’s money, not to mention the heavy layers of secrets that begin to unravel before they even reach the manor.

When they arrive, Scarlett can hardly believe her eyes as the gates open to reveal a beautiful country manor estate, framed by gardens, fountains and shadows. Emily, the family’s loyal and long-time housekeeper, is there to greet them, her tone icy and formal. Byron, the family driver, also loyal and long-standing, is a kindly man that is incredibly happy to see them, as happy as Emily is cold. Erik, Jeremiah’s troublesome brother, is also sharing the manor with them, along with their father Charles, who seems happy and healthy. It quickly becomes clear that something is not as it seems with this family, or with Haven Manor. Scarlett is determined to find out what is going on in the shadows before this place can destroy her husband, her children, and her marriage.

With dynamic writing and relatable characters, the author introduces you to a charming family that you cannot help but root for as increasingly sinister secrets are revealed. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, from the setting and the descriptions of the manor, down to the intrigue and mystery surrounding the characters and its secrets as they were revealed. I did not find this story to be predictable at any point, which is a common issue for many ghost stories and haunted house tales. I found this entire storyline to be original, haunting, and chilling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series as well as more books by Summer Feaker. Solid Five Stars.

Cracking Chillingly Creepy!!!

This is the first book I have read by this author, wow it is additive reading, it gripped me from the first page to the very last page. I kept telling myself I'd put it down after this chapter then it was the next and so on. If you like suspense with supernatural elements this book has it, the supernatural aspects of this book did truly creep me out and played on my mind, you might just need to leave the light on if you read this book late into the evening.

Initially you feel the tension building throughout the book to the final climax and it concluded very nicely gearing up ready for the next book in this trilogy. I loved the characters in this book except one I loathed.

As I said this is the first book I have read by this author and I am really excited to read the next book to see where it takes me.

This author has gained a new devotee.

Uninvited Others - 5/5
By S Feaker

“A DARK STORMY NIGHT IN A HAUNTED MANSION. IT SOUNDED LIKE A CORNY HORROR, BUT IT WAS HIS LIFE”

A whole new twist on the haunted house story - this story was entirely unpredictable!

The descriptions in this book were haunting and left me thinking about the characters, long after I finished reading it.

I thought this book was brilliant - I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

DNF at 40%. There’s definitely a good, spooky story in here, but it unfortunately needs a lot of editing. I was drawn in by the concept and wanted to keep reading, but the grammatical and syntax issues are hard to overlook. The writing feels very stilted, and as soon as I got pulled in by the spooky atmosphere, I was pulled out just as fast.

I’m still reeling! This book was so freaking good! I was hooked from page one, and the story unfolded at the perfect deliberate pace. If you love gothic horror, haunted houses, family curses and a good mystery weaved seamlessly throughout, READ THIS BOOK!

S. Feaker spins a tale that draws you in and also keeps you guessing. Tidbits of information are fed to the reader in slow and excruciating morsels. You are left wanting more, but never fear! Book 2 is available now and Book 3 is released in August! I’m stoked to see where Book 2 goes, but I have no doubt that S. Feaker will once again blow me away with her well crafted stories.

Gothic horror is an art, and Summer balances the scares perfectly with the atmosphere of fear and dread so thick it will follow you into your dreams!! These are no hauntings for the faint of heart and I can’t get the characters out of my mind. The beauty is, it isn’t a haunting just for the scares. The story is heartbreaking and will actually make you feel for what you fear. This is a huge feat and I applaud you, Summer!! Well done! You have a loyal fan in me, and I’ll be singing your praises to anyone who will listen!! ♥️♥️

Full Disclosure: I'm the narrator for this here audiobook (out very soon!)

This book is nuts. I was expecting more of a gothic ghost/love story (nothing wrong with that) but what I got instead was a crazy freakout of a haunted house punch to the face. The ghosts in this book are not messing around. They're scary. They're gross. They want to kill you!

There's a very effective family dynamic at the center of the story to really make you care about the ones being haunted by these nightmarish ghouls. Also, not all is what it seems to be. There's much more going on and it's revealed piece by piece until you have to put the book down and go "WTF!"

In short, this is a heartfelt yet super scary cursed house adventure that will leave you glad there's two more books on the way. Haven Manor is right up there with Hill House and Crimson Peak when it comes to nasty scares and believable characters caught up in all the ghoulish goings-on. Summer Feaker is a writer to keep on your radar at all times. She's not playing around here!

You'll want to dive right into Shadow Sleepers, the next book in the trilogy, right away! With the lights all the way on, of course.
