"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." —Mark 10:45
Of the four Gospels, Mark presents the most down-to-earth portrait of Jesus’s life. The fast-paced narrative emphasizes both His humanity and His divinity, showing our Savior as both the Son of Man and the divine Son of God.
Over three weeks, we’ll follow Jesus from His baptism in the Jordan River to His cross at Calvary. Along the way, we’ll marvel at His compassion, power, and authority as He performs miracles and transforms the lives of the men and women He encounters. Finally, we’ll arrive at Resurrection Sunday with a deeper understanding of Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice that secures our salvation.
She Reads Truth is a worldwide community of women who read God's Word together every day. Founded in 2012, She Reads Truth invites women of all ages to engage Scripture through curated daily reading plans, as well as online conversation led by a vibrant community of contributing writers. This community of “Women in the Word of God every day” represents a long list of cities and countries, a variety of backgrounds and traditions, and countless real-life stories. But there is a commonality that binds us: we believe God's Word is Truth. So we read. Every day we read a new passage together—working our way through books of the Bible, topics that matter, and seasons of the Church calendar. We engage with God's Word and with each other. And we keep coming back, on the hard days and the good days, because God and His Word never change, regardless of our circumstances.
Not my favorite format. I expected more prompting and questions, but it was basically just the Bible with pictures. I would have rather just read the book of Mark out of my Bible without the interruptions of the day by day reading.
Reading through Mark repeatedly was a great way to spend the month. I really enjoyed focusing on how people responded to Jesus, how Jesus taught, and the little Markan Sandwiches throughout the book.
I have been following these Bible studies by She Reads Truth for years. I am lucky to have family living in the States, so order them for delivery there and then wait for various family members to bring them back home, when they have room in their suitcase.
Whilst this was beautifully presented, as are all of the studies, visuals are taken very seriously - a progression of blues, gained through hand dying and all the pictures to accompany it - the format is slightly different from the norm.
Not a bad thing, per se, always good to mix things up a little to ensure that one doesn't get stuck in a rut but, as one other reviewer said, really this is just a beautifully presented read through of Mark's gospel and the student doesn't really gain much beyond that.
I teamed it with the daily commentaries online, but even those, this time, were a little lacking. I am now aware of Mark's 'sandwich' form of story telling but, overall, this was disappointing.
