Lucía Ashta is the internationally top 20 bestselling author of young adult, new adult, and adult paranormal and urban fantasy books, including the series Magical Creatures Academy, Witches of Gales Haven, Smoky Mountain Pack, and Supernatural Bounty Hunter.
When Lucía isn't writing, she's reading, painting, or adventuring. Magical fantasy is her favorite, but the action, romance, and quirky characters are what keep her hooked on books.
I got bored half way through and ended up skimming to the end. A ton of convenient solutions to major problems. Of course it had a happy ending, boring. I was right about Zasha being Alpha, but she didn't embrace it. She kept trying to hand it off to Quannah. Female deference to males... Gross. I'll say it again, being alpha is innate. She had it in her all along, otherwise she wouldn't have ended up as the alpha. I'm tired of reading these shifter books with weak female alphas. Women are strong! Stronger than men, we can create life! I want to see some real strong female leads. You can be in a relationship with a male without constantly deferring to him or being dependent on him. Women can lead. I don't get why Ashta took the time to build this tough, strong heroine... She's an MMA fighter for Pete's sake... Just to have her go all weak and gooey once she gets into a relationship with Quannah. He was already a beta, she could have easily filled the alpha role without any guff from him, so what is with the weakness? Just... Omfg. Two point five stars out of five to Blood Wolf. Somebody send this author to a feminist class, please.
It’s a 2.5 because of how fast I lost all interest or care once the author turned one of the supporting characters “evil” and then killed her off (despite letting the other “betrayer” live with the pack and their happily ever after. It just spited everything for me.
Zasha goes through a rough time of dealing with the magic in her and the truth of her family. Q is tweaking his thumbs trying to balance the pack and his panic for his mate whenever she’s in trouble. For some reason, she stopped being the “chick who fought all her life” for me and became the typical heroine who gets greatness thrust upon her. She didn’t handle things the way she did in the beginning.
My disappointment with this book comes from one of the pack members being used as a plot twist to get Zasha’s magic back. The entire pack turns on Roan. Doesn’t matter that they’ve all known her and she’s been living as the person “she wants to be”, not the “person she was”. It really shingles on that life quote doesn’t it? Anyway no one cares or stands up for her and Zasha gets annoying. Lies and acts like she’s doing amazing against a foe and it just *eye rolls*
Roan dies halfway through the book so it was just annoying to finish it. There’s a lot of books by this author but I’m worried there will be other poor decisions for her characters and this was already a lot. I’ll have to sleep on it.
I liked the first two books but this one was excessively boring😴 I had to take a break from this book for almost two months in order to find any motivation to finish it...and as all readers know it, that's a bad sign. The book was essentially about preparing the final battle and the battle itself. There were a lot of blablabla, inner circular monologues, and descriptions which didn't add anything to the storyline🙄 I skimmed a lot of part from 50% to 80%😕 And more disappointed was the end🤦🏻♀️ This wasn't an end at all and there were still a lot of interrogations and unresolved things. It let things openend for a sequel but meh... The final scene was just cliché...double meh🤦🏻♀️ Well, I'm very disappointed. I was expecting a lot more from a third and final volume but it wasn't the cas at all☹️
I made it to 18% before giving up. I was willing to deal with the lack of world building, character growth and 1 very tired plot arc but I won't handle deadnaming, cruelty and devaluing the pack members. Only read on if you don't give a fig about spoilers, because I'm about to get ranty.
Major spoilers ahead. So this book begins literally where the other left off. No weeks' long gap. Gideon says her name and that's exactly where this begins. And then the info dumps start. Eva, who we discover is Gideon's Amelie, has been a packmate for decades. A fighter, a protector, and a wolf. Her story is so weird, though. She was a Hunter who was responding to a wolf raid, was bitten, but now all wolf- down with the Hunters. Her story is literally the recruiting phrase for Hunters. Why is she pro-wolf? Because she is one isn't a good answer. She should be resentful, should have run back to the Hunters and put a big X on the map for the ones who ruined her human life. But, nope, all wolf now without any explanation as to why the change of heart towards the ones who bit and changed her. Who cost her her life with Gideon. Who cost her her life's goal as a human protector from all things that go bump in the night.
Next up is Roan/Khrystel (spelling may be off on that one). Roan had been an elite fighting force member for decades. Not just a packmate, but one of the ones sent in on classified and dangerous missions. Like the raid on the Pound. She's made friends with Zasha, was friends with Q, Flynn and Kisha. She was trusted. Her story is the second info-dump, almost back to back to Eva's with only Zasha's uncles' in-between. They left Russia because their village of wolves had been slaughtered by Hunters. They, Yuri, his pregnant wife and Yuri's brother were all that remained. Alexai made a deal with a witch to hide their wolf magic so the Hunters couldn't track them. It required a sacrifice and Alexai did it without informing the others. They came across the witch taking her "pay" - Alexai's heart. They killed her, removed her heart and head, and thought her dead. But she had Alexai's life force, and their wolf magic, so she came back as a wolf shifter- Roan. She had the memories, but was a new person. She felt horror at what the other had done but made a new life for herself. They deadnamed her, too. Immediate revulsion, hate, fear. Which would be understandable, but they've literally known her for decades. She's never tipped a mission. She's never revealed where the pack was to dark mages. She's never done magic. Because she's Roan, not Khrystel. That person died. Now, could the uncles blame her for not returning the wolf magic? Sure. But considering they ran and started new lives themselves, it's a little (lot) hypocritical. She didn't do magic anymore, didn't even know if she could, considering the person who did died. After all 3 info-dumps, they're supposed to be eavesdropping on Gideon and Eva, instead they're having petty verbal slap downs. Not hearing anything important, because pettiness. I gave up. All the promise from the first 2 books was dropped. It devolved into pettiness, infighting, and they're supposed to be worrying about Hunters invading the compound, and the multiple magics warring inside Zasha. I will try to come back in a week or so. I think I'm partly burned out from several unsatisfying reads before discovering this series. Which started off entertaining, if lacking in some areas, but sort of just dropped off.
This third book was a complete mess. The start of the book picks up from the end of the second book, so why are they talking like they did not blow up the helicopter that Gideon was thrown out of in the previous book, they shot a ground to air missile at the helicopter, and watched it blow up? But yet they’re talking like that did not happen, and Marley would still be alive, rather than dead. Why is Quannah asking if Corbin wasreally dead, they felt him die, knew he was dead in the last book. Quannah became the alpha in truth! I was fine with the one wolf being found out, even fine with how things went with that wolf. That wolf had life that didn’t belong to them. Gideon is another story. Just no. He got off too easy. Way too easy. He’s a decades long murderer, including babies and children! And he kept saying how he’s trying to wrap his head around that he COULD’VE killed innocents?! BABIES AND CHILDREN, ABSOLUTELY innocent, on top of the innocent adults he’s murdered. Don’t care what his non-excusing excuse is. He repeatedly has the nerve to get indignant that he’s held responsible for his actions by the pack shifters! AND he’s responsible for the death of the previous long time alpha, how does he get more than a we won’t kill you pass? Staying in the pack is a HARD NO. He should’ve got the you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here. Zasha’s status change, not too sure about. She should have been in addition to, not replacement. That’s what the wolf magic should have done, which would mirror a true wolf pack. The big battle to come, yet the enemy were fish in a barrel, as they were traveling caravan style, and that was not taken advantage of? The pack has rocket launchers, they couldn’t get a hold of other explosives to plant along the way so that the caravan traveled over them and then boom? Would have preferred that, then taking care of others who travelled other means and got to pack land. Why are they always using the phone? They have a pack link, which is much quicker, but they use that second? So taking time to pull out a phone, find the number, and dial, when they could’ve already made contact? Didn’t make sense. You have targets parachuting from the sky, why aren’t they being shot? No, they’re allowed to land? Gideon’s highly trained but can’t manage a kill shot on the mage he had unobstructed view of? Alcott, the mage that should have been in the completely forgotten about blown up helicopter at end of the second book, also not dead like Marley should have been, makes an appearance and teleports Quannah away, how? He wasn’t a teleporter before. Then there was the cliche villian speech, in the middle of all out war. A shame. Battle was just there, not well written at all. Skimmed and bit of skipping to get through this last book.
4.5⭐️ ‘Blood Wolf’ is book three in Lucia Ashta’s Smokey Mountain Pack series. Written in multiple POV.
The Hunters know where the Smokey Mountain Pack are, Corin the Alpha is dead, Marley got away, Gideon was thrown from the helicopter and now with the wolves, Zasha still has black magic coursing through her, and Zasha and Quannah’s mate bond is still new. War between the Wolves and the hunters has been brewing for years but now it’s time for the wolves to become the predators instead of the prey.
If you haven’t read books one and two ‘Forged Wolf’ and ‘Beta Wolf’ you need to stop what you are doing right now and go and read them. This series is off the charts addictive, action packed, fast paced, exhilarating and exceptional, it will have you on the edge of your seat.
I kid you not this book was so jammed packed with nail biting moments, full of angst, suspense, surprises, revelations, witty banter and steamy smexy time.
Zasha has been one kicka** chick from the very beginning, but her bada**ness was exceptional in this book, she really stepped up to her role not only as the packs beta, but as Quannah’s mate and a Wolf. From the moment her papa passed she has been under pressure from one thing after another, proving the odds against are nothing, and has always come out through it stronger and tougher. But this book really put her through the ringer and I was so proud of her character.
Quannah has seriously owned me from the very beginning, and now I think I am completely lost and broken for any other future book boyfriends. 😉
This whole series has been one enjoyable journey and I am a little upset that it has come to an end now. I’m so glad to have seen and experienced Z & Q’s story. This series is one that I will definitely come back to again and again in the future. Thank you so very much Lucia Ashta for bringing this world, characters and storyline to life for us all. I am also very excited to see that there is going to be another pack series coming up. I really looking forward to that and being able to see how things are going with the Smokey Mountain Pack.
I have not read anything of Lucia Ashta before this series, but damn, I am certainly reading more of her book's after this last two. Yep I need to go back to the beginning to finalize everything in this storyline. But I have to say the way Ms Ashta put this together it's really easy to understand the back story as much as following up with what's on the pages we have just read. This author has to be one of the first I have ever felt as though she could reach inside the wolves and become one with the wolves herself, she left little to the imagination in how she believes a wolf would feel under certain circumstances. I read shifter book's all the time, and have read a variety of different views on how shifters would react given different situations, but this series " Smoky Mountains Pack" truly gives real meaning to the term shifters and pack. As much as this is extremely fast paced with never ending events that lead up to magical situations occuring and honest to god reactions to deaths and pain, as a person and a wolf would feel, her characters such as Zasha, Quannah and other's are connected to both halves of their bodies as well as the magic that makes them and the magic found all around them within nature and everything she provides. A very emotional rollercoaster in many ways, while also being practical, in this book the last of the series Zasha learns so much about herself her mate what it means to be a strong wolf plus how important family is to everyone including herself. As much as this book is to do with the pack and it's connection to Zasha it also gives us a view of the turmoil she has to deal with to embrace what this all means plus understanding how having a mate will effect her, in hindsight had she met Quannah before she may have not been single so long. Paranormal romance at it's finest, plus you meet so many other pieces of the puzzle that pulls this amazing series into alignment. If you enjoy a book full of complexities you're going to really enjoy this. Now back to book 1 just because I enjoyed what was created on these pages.
If you enjoy shifter novels, you're bound to like this series!
Warning: There's a little bit of exploding people and body parts written about in this book. Just a heads up!
In the previous book, there were one or two inconsistencies, one of which with the mind linking. Only the alpha and beta can mind link individual people, but everyone else, including the gamma, speak to everyone when they mind link. At one point, Flynn (the gamma) mind linked only Quannah, which shouldn't be possible. In this book, Quannah tells a couple of his main warriors that Zasha is his mate because he "hadn't had the chance to tell the pack yet," but he did in the previous book through a pack wide mind link. In this book, it didn't seem to happen, so it was just one little hiccup, thankfully!
I'm glad things turned out the way they did in this book. There's some questions left unresolved, but I'm certain they would be answered in the other books. I didn't mind these, but I don't think I'm into them enough to continue on, at least not at this time. They were well written, so it's nothing against that or the author, however. I liked the variety of characters, I like the twists (you probably won't see them coming, I know I didn't!), and I like that some of the pack were a part of a native tribe who were in part so connected to the earth and nature around them. Overall, if you really enjoy fated mates and shifter novels, I think you'll enjoy these!
Good editing. MF, PNR, almost no burn. The author has created a world that differs from the run of the mill wolf shifter novel. The fmc and mmc are pretty well developed characters. There is lots of adventure, mystery and battles between good and evil. The big bad is left undefined in this trilogy, which seems to be part of a larger world described in the author's other series. There is just something off about the writing style. The books are difficult to follow. Each character is given chapters in which they ruminate ad nauseum about their life and situation. It is sometimes hard to tell who or what they are thinking about. There seems to be something strange about the presentation that isn't easy to read. Given that, it remains a new and interesting storyline. I did read all three books, though tempted to dnf. If the writing style is the same in other series, I might not give them a try.
I voluntarily review an ARC. This is the third and final part of the Smoky Mountain Pack series, the books should be read in order. I loved this book and the whole series. It's full of secrets, loyalty, magic, fighting and sexual tension. It's not often I detest magic that much, but like most things in life there will always be light and dark sides. And sometimes people have a hard time learning to recognise the difference. I knew beforehand with this author the reader has to expect a lot of surprises, but like always they came out of the blue. I adore the magnificent worlds she creates and her fluent writing style. Can't wait to meet some characters again in the next series about the Rocky Mountains Pack.
I feel like I missed a key point on when the good guys didn’t care about each other.
When did zasha not care about her friend roan.
Roan was brutally killed by her own family. She spent decades helping her new family and when her past mistakes from a previous incarnation come back to haunt her.
Her family including zasha who also has black magic in her takes joy in her exploring corpse.
While Eva gets a free pass, roan gets an exploding corpse.
Along with her uncles and everyone else’s betrayals at the beginning.
Roan was right that they we plotting to kill her even after zasha said she truly liked her as a friend
That left a bitter taste as I read the rest of the book.
So now, with Blood Wolf (Book 3), Lucia Ashta’s Smoky Mountain Pack trilogy comes to a truly powerful conclusion. Happily the send off is what this story arc deserved. Secrets are uncovered, betrayals dealt with, and twists and turns somehow dealt with in an exciting thriller of a novel. I’ve loved Zasha through these stories. She’s my favorite kind of kick-a$$ character, and it’s been a pleasure following along as her relationship with Quannah developed. Added to a fantastic cast, wonderful would building with its paranormal and magic elements, and superb writing snd its no surprise I’m going to regret leaving this trilogy behind. Having said all that, it’s also no surprise that I highly recommend this book.
This book is from multiple points of view, jumping between Gideon, Quannah, and Zasha. This book starts off with Gideon the Hunter being thrown off a helicopter in pack territory. He sees his long-lost hunter mate, who is now a wolf. This story gets sad right from the first few chapters as we discover the alpha has passed, and now Zasha is the beta and mates to the previous beta, who is now the Alpha Quannah. However, if that wasn't a big enough bomb for the readers, the authors add a clandestine meeting of Zasha's uncles and a revelation. I find it interesting that he refers to his wolf as brother wolf, almost like an Indian legend. As they prepare for the attack and the action ramps up, I can't wait to see what happens.
This book is a bomb with all the secrets and actions that drop, so be prepared. I could have loved it without the characters monologuing through the action scenes, but this was an excellent intense story. I did enjoy that Zasha's bond with Quannah strengthens and that we got to see them as a steamy couple even in the most insane situations. The author did a great job in her descriptions, and the book was action-packed.
This is the 3rd and final in the series that let’s Quannah and Zasha be the alpha den beta of the smoky mountain pack during the biggest battle that will come against the Hunters and the fighting rings that turn humans unwillingly into wolves who die from Black magic. They are mated and are giving each other the strength and training as they try to protect the pack despite several surprising betrayals. I love the uncles and elders influencing Zasha and Quannah. There is no doubt Zasha will be a wolf to respect after surviving the death of her father that started her new reality.
Intense finale!!! 😍🔥 From the first page to the last one, the emotions are high and intense, gripping your attention and squezzing your heart, the angst was real!!! 😩 Zasha and Quannah are so damn perfect and hot together; their bond, stronger than ever, was key in this savage battle against the hunters!!! 💪👊 #strongertogether Secrets unveiled, shocking twists and turns and lot of action, will keep you glued to your sit, enjoying this fantastic installment!!! 🤩 Can't wait to read the next series in this world, is not quite over yet!!! 😍 ❤️
As a whole, this series was very easy to read and get into. The romance between Zasha and Quannah was intriguing without being over powering. The family dynamic of the pack and Zasha’s uncles was very comforting and make for great supporting characters. I loved that this specific word pack pride themselves in their warrior status and there weren’t any weak characters. Overall a great read if you’re looking for a light read with a powerful fated mates couple with no “other-women” drama and a happily ever after!
I technically didn’t finish this book but got at least 200 pages in so I’m counting it towards my reading challenge. Honestly this series had a promising set up, but the romance fell hella flat and the characters were all so one dimensional it was boring to read. It definitely felt (in this book most of all) like random plot lines and backstories were getting thrown in solely for the shock factor and it just was meh all around.
Also pls that one smut scene with them in wolf form had me hella squeamish idk it was just not it lol
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Holy wolf babies this bad boy was intense, what an epic rollercoaster I full enjoyed reading zasha and Quannah this fight between the smoky wolf pack and those horrible hunters gas me on the edge of my sit I couldn't read this book quite quick enough to see how it ends and boy you definitely won't be disappointed really great read and I was happy to see Gideon changed sides aboustly love this series
There are some steamy scenes besides all the fighting. Also I wasn't expecting the betrayal. Not saying who. Amelia & Gideon's love story was so beautiful. It gives me hope that love can be restored. I was worried they were going to find out Gideon's role in Corins death. So excited the uncles make an appearance in this book too. Loved the ending. Can't wait for the spin off Rocky Mountain Pack.
OMG this third and final book was just devastating! It’s full of fighting, magic, secrets and twists and turns that will totally shock you to the core! It’s very emotional and very steamy in places plus we get some background that explains a lot! Fast paced and action packed and an unexpected hurtful betrayal , these characters have been through the wringer but have come out the other side and I loved their ending.
I highly recommend this series of books. They were so entertaining that I read the books instead of sleeping and didn't regret it. I would recommend this series to adults only as there's language and sexual situations. If you don't mind that the storyline is excellent and the books are very enjoyable. I enjoyed them very much but wished these wolves didn't curse quite so much.
I enjoyed the conclusion of this story. It’s definitely an action packed story. This book actually makes you think some deep thoughts. I couldn’t stop thinking whether a person should be forgiven for all the harm they’ve done to people simply because they were lied to. I’m not sure I think they should be forgiven. Regardless, the book did a nice job wrapping things up and had some interesting surprises in it.
I liked this series, definitely couldn’t put it down. But it also doesn’t feel finished. We still don’t have all the answers and I am not sure if that is because the main storyline continues in other series or we just don’t find out. It might have been nice to have this further explained at the end because I don’t know what I am supposed to read now to find out what happens to the five.
Another great book and series on the Smoky Mountain Pack; hopefully there will be an update I’d love to know what happens next for the alpha and beta along with the pack. Great to read about previous characters but would love to know more on the characters from previous series. Slightly disappointed on some of the storylines I would have liked to see other magical people and creatures help destroy the hunters. I highly recommend reading this series
Honestly couldn't take it anymore. Repetitive and the lord was testing with sections after the Uncles arrive. I imaging squeezing fresh water out of a boulder would have been faster. The nonsense was beyond irritating. And then the continuous need to remind us about what The Society claims to stand for: wolves = must die
Got that message loud and clear the first 100 times and 101 was just too damn many and I was done.
We are at the end with the last book and i must say wow! Nonstop action in this one. I love Quannah. Lots of new things happened that surprised me. Zasha has definitely come into her own and we get some surprises in this one too. The ending had a awesome epilogue, I love when authors do this for us fans. I’m also excited about the new pack book.
Blood wolf is book 3 (the final installment) in the Smoky Mountain Pack series by Lucia Ashta. I loved the entire series but BW was my favorite. The action and steam are both kicked up several notches on this one! Grab some popcorn and a soda and hunker down for the night because you’re not going to want to stop until it’s over. Great ending to a great series!
This book was EVERYTHING it needed to be. Delving into Zasha's past while dealing with defending themselves against the hunters. The Smokey mountain pack is hiding secrets that can make or break them on this war. I freaking loved this book, it ends perfectly.
For me, it is always a bonus when I find a new series that is complete, and this is no exception. No waiting on cliff-hangers, gratification with the ending ready for me to read. This has been a great series to read, learning about the Smoky Mountain pack and all the other people that interact with them. Looking forward to more from this world.
This was was a lot more wordy then the last. Took almost the entire book to have the final battle. I was apprehensive at 38% when we were gearing up for hunter arrival fearing f that it would take the rest of the book for it to happen…it did. I’m glad I read this though. Put with the other books and it was a solid story.
