Note to self: don’t fall in love with a gangster.

I’m the good girl: a college student who studies hard, wants to do good, and plays by the rules. I shouldn’t be falling for a guy like Darren Lee, the bad boy owner of an exclusive nightclub that, unbeknownst to me, caters to an international triad.

We’re absolutely wrong for each other. Maybe that’s why the heat between us is so sizzling hot…

But Darren’s desires run dark and wicked. Should I submit to his passions? Something tells me that if I throw caution to the wind, I could be in for a world of hurt.

If you enjoy mafia style romances with bad boy Doms and plenty of wicked heat, then get CLAIMED to steam up your reading today…

STORY:
**Doing the sign of the cross telling myself, think pure thoughts, think pure thoughts Raven, Darren isn’t real. Darrennnnnnn, omggggggg. I love my male characters like Darren. Take charge, dominant mix with mysterious. His whole bravado makes me moist. The dynamic he has with Bridget works and makes this book soooo appealing to me based on my personal preferences. It’s one of those books that you are reading and at 10% you think ok, it’s interesting, and everything 10% is becoming more appealing and transitions to good, that you cannot look away. The dynamic I spoke of between Darren and Bridget was dominant and take charge with the shy, nerdy do good girl. Duplicated many times in books but the author manages to pull me in. Bridget was so naive. Her naivety is unreal, that it was actually a part of the allure with this story.

So the writer did this story in a unique way for me and I can only speak for me. She bobs and weave through past and present throughout the story. It’s almost like you were reading the story on reverse. The story is a focused on a particular scene in the present while taking us throughout the past on how Darren and Bridget became to be. It was not confusing, and I wanted to hurry and get to the past because it pulls you in the way their story is playing out.

I should note I got little mafia activity. You can tell that the family is in a lot of shady dealings but the mafia aspect isn’t as strong to me.

CHEMISTRY:
Ladies, Darren, certified panty dropper. This for me is not only sex but demeanor and all that dominance he is oozing. He had me biting my fist at a scene or two. I am in love with his character. The book is leading into BDSM, so be sure you are ok with this.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS
I love that there were other characters in this story and every scene was not consumed with Darren and Bridget. JD, not bad but don’t like the way he speaks about Bridget. Amy, is ok. She is One of Bridget’s roommate. Kimberley, your typical mean bi$&ch.

Overall, weak on the mafia aspect even though we are still in part 1 of this story. Love that this is multicultural. Love the characters and the dynamic they brought to the story. HATE it’s a cliffhanger and hope my interest stays still long enough for part 2. I also hope that this story only has 1 cliffhanger, not sure I can be invested beyond that. I have never read anything by this author, so I was not privy to this series prior and may look into it.

***I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read and hope this review was helpful.

Bridget Moore is good girl, she morals, she works her way to the top she doesn't believes in hand outs. That is until she meets Darren Lee an owner of a night club Bridget friend and roommate drags her to. Little did she know who he was the owner and ties to the Triad the ties that is been in his family for generations. So when she meets Darren he insults her by talking about her hideous sweater. Bridget was so offended she threw a drink (well a coke) in his face. Darren had never had to work at anything before women fell at his feet so why wasn't Bridget. Bridget was a spitfire heroine a do-gooder and Darren couldn't wait to bring her into his BDSM world. You get sucked right into their story told in her/his POV and past & present storyline.

Quite enjoyed how this is set in both past and present but is easy to follow, leaves the readers with lots of questions though, hopefully book 2 gives more insight!

Uh....

I can’t remember if I read the summary of this book before purchasing and if I did and all that I read was stated, I blame myself.

This book is not for everyone. A matter a fact, it comes off as torture to me instead of Fifty Shades. I couldn’t with all the sex, from beginning to end. The book had zero substance in between. Nothing enlightened where feelings may have been developed between the two and no one had any complete backstory.

The story took place in about 4 places. The university dorms, the club, the basement and an apartment.

If you’re into all that erotica, you’ll probably find this book intriguing but if you are on the more romantic side, don’t read.

Honestly, the only reason this is getting 2 stars is because it started out as a potentially really good book. This needs to be MUCH longer at the rate this went. It goes back and forth between the present and the past, but then it just got stuck in the past when I needed more of the present. It ends on not even a cliffhanger. It just.... ends. I had to make sure I got the entire book on my Kindle. The writing kind of sucks to be honest with you and even the scenes meant to be spicy just felt rushed and crappy. This book has so much potential, but it utterly just left me with a frustrated edging if you know what I mean.

Mediocre

A promising book with great reviews, but fell short for me. The story fluctuates from past to present, not much of a plot and no real background to the characters. Just not sure about this one, not bad but not brilliant either. Ends on a cliff hanger.

3 stars for the hot sex. Otherwise, I did not see any romance nor bonding between Bridget and Darren. This was sex without the plot. Got this book for free, and found out it is the first book in a series of 3 after I finished this book on a cliffhanger. Probably won’t read the next book, seeing as I am not a big fan of bdsm nor the relationship between Bridget and Darren. Nothing they did made me love them because it was all about sex between them. More focus on the romance than the sex would be nice.

So I got this through Apple Books, which divided the book into 3 parts. I’ve read the free , part one. I liked it ,def not meant to be a book on its own though. It’s sexy , and I want to know how the story works out. Will def read the other 2 parts.

Darren and Bridget such passion!
The more I read this series the more captivated I get. These characters are complex and so intriguing. I love how the author is penning this dark romance with so much drama. The chemistry is off the chart and there some very intense scenes in this book. This book was a page-turner if you like Em Brown’s book you need to pick up every book in this series. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Maybe a 2
READER BEWARE! This is not a standalone book! Instead it was a trilogy. I got the first book for free and then found out at the end of it, at a cliffhanger, that there are two more books (the 3rd one is like 480pgs). 18+ book is mostly smut with very little plot. Check trigger warning (gets darker in the second and third books). I didn't feel any real relationship between Darren and Bridget. Darren wouldn't get out of his head or over himself- he really started to bug me (Bridget is too good for him). I would not say this trilogy is worth the time.

well this is interesting

well this is interesting. Very promising idea and story. I really like this one. However, the constant flashback scenes turn me off. Dude should really consult or ask his partner first before doing any kinky stuff though. Abrupt ending. The cliffhanger was not what I expected. Looking forward to read the next book though. Curious what’s going to happen between them

This heroine rides a slippery slope with all her political grandstanding in this book. The author just about managed to reign her in so that I didn't find her totally annoying, but she was definitely on the cusp. I gave her a slight pass since she's your typical, indoctrinated millenial, all of 20/21 yrs old, who thinks she knows better than everybody. Maybe with time, or in the subsequent books, she'll grow out of that sh-t. If you don't agree with the indication of her politics, though, she might not be the heroine for you.

Now let's talk about the hero, I love that he's Asian. We need more of them in mainstream romance. I know there are perhaps more representation of Asian heroes in the Chicklit/Women's fiction genres, but in classic romance, not so much ... or not so much that I have come across. Given that I consume a lot of Asian entertainment otherwise, everything from Korean and Chinese dramas to films and reality shows from all across the region, I know how freaking hot Asian men can be. The author knows it too because Darren Lee is hot as F.

I wish she would've given more description of each character, though. I have an idea of how Darren looks, but I can barely picture Bridget, though I suspect that she's mixed raced (black/white). Why she would want to mask that, I don't know. If you're going to write about a biracial heroine, then own it. Paint us a good picture of what they look like, don't just gloss over it. Maybe in the later books she does a better job of it, but in this one ... inadequate.

The story here is the two protagonists meeting for the first time and not really being sure about each other as an attraction builds, inspite of themselves. Their encounters portray the well-known stereotype of American college students who engage in casual hookups and has a blase attitude about sex and its consequences. If an accident happens, oh well, let's just have an abortion and be done with it. Smfh.

I see a lot of reviewers complaining about the book not having a plot ... well, THAT is the plot. It's about hookup culture and its fallouts ... sleeping around and not really knowing who you're sleeping with until it's too late and the consequences of your actions are irreversible. Future readers should not expect rainbows and hearts at this stage. Only lust. The characters get to know each other thru animal attraction & sex as opposed to boy met girl, boy courts girl, boy and girl fall in love then they seal the deal with marriage and babies.

The book goes back and forth between the past (how the leads met and got involved) and the present (the current status of their relationship). It didn't work for some people, but it didn't bother me. The flashbacks of the past were well-paced with and relevant to the events occurring in the present time so I didn't feel like they were preventing the story from moving forward, as flashbacks tend to do. It's fairly easy to follow along so people complaining about it might have some form of ADHD, I dunno.

Anyway, while I'm a bit iffy about the female lead and have recently come to the conclusion that I am not a huge fan of BDSM after all, I want to see how this pans out so I'mma keep reading.

✨Recomendado 💯

it was okay

The plot was good and has a lot of potential. The spice was good and the start of the relationship (if you call it that) was perfect. From unliked to obsessed always plays out with the darker desires the best.

However… there are grammatical errors and words mixed up in placement that should have been caught by the editors. Simple ones. There was also something lacking. Fluidity maybe from the build up of past to present? I can’t quite put my finger on it but it bugged me there was more past written when it started as a present story.

She has a kid. Clearly his. She fled. But why? She’s not dumb by any means so how does she not connect the dots of illegal activity and gangster connections when going to a club you can’t search and meeting people with zero details on the internet?

I like the start up. But it also ends with a cliff hanger and no second book unless you do some online link? Not interested. :/

Has potential. Too much missing for a solid strong read for me.

WARNING: This novel contains strong and explicit language, graphic scenes or other sensitive or taboo content that may be disturbing to some readers. This is a BDSM novel.

Bridget is a single mom who ran from California to Denver because she found out her boyfriend was part of an international triad and was afraid she would be next when she found her roommate killed.

It took Darren over two years to track Bridget down. He doesn't know why she left him, but he's here to take her back. Whether she likes it or not, she's his.

I loved this book! All of the characters are amazing even the one's you don't like so much. I love how the story cuts back and forth from past to present with both POV. The chemistry between Bridget and Darren is steamy hot.

Highly recommend this book! Em Brown brings the characters emotions to the forefront of the story. I am looking forward to their continuing story in CLAIMED HARDER!

4.5 (I think?!?)

I’m biased because I will forever love one-couple series. ugh this book was so cute. I loved it. If you’re looking for a quick steamy back and forth type beat, you should read this book. I loved her writing style and plan to continue to the next book in the series. Idk what I’m anticipating, but I do have some gaps and thoughts.

**SPOILERS**

First, so does Darren know about the child?? I’m assuming not because he’s not grilling her about it when he’s got her tied up. And I’m not sure if she WANTS him to know about the child? Again, I’m assuming not because of his gangster status and ties to dark networks. Also, how are you going to mention that her roommate was murdered but it’s not even in the book?!?! I think it ended on a good cliffhanger, but I wish it had just a littleeeee bit more. I HOPE the next book will be similar Past/Present Dual POV and that we learn more backstory but at this point I have no idea.

The premise of this book was promising, and with so the great reviews I was excited to read it. Unfortunately, it simply did not deliver. There was barely any character building or scene setting in this novel…it relied on the sex scenes to keep you going, and those fell flat as well.

The back and forth between past and present was uncalled for. IMO it would’ve been better if this whole book focused solely on the “past” part of the story. I didn’t care about the events of the present because you never get attached to any of the characters.

After ask that though, I kept reading, hoping for redemption to only be left with a what was meant to be a Cliff hanger, but really just was an incomplete novel. On the bright side, the first book in the series was free so at least I didn’t waste my money as well as my time.

Sorry, wish I could have given this a full two stars, but it just wasn't good. The premise of the story had promise, but the follow through was just chaotic. It also ends on a cliff hanger without a whole lot of story building or character development. I can not visual a world where an alpha male Asian-mafia connected guy would get the hots for a girl who likes to run her mouth about the wrongs of the world. On that note, I also don't read books to hear the author's political views. I read to escape reality. I felt the main female character spent more time mouthing off political issues of the day than developing her personality. I didn't really enjoy the past/present time jumping the author used and there were so many questions that didn't even come close to having answers at the end of book one. Many people may like this book, but it just didn't work for me on many levels.

Awesome, engaging dark BDSM read. It’s part one of a series, but I enjoyed how in depth and descriptive it was. It started in the present then went back to the past that really cemented how the characters came to be together. Bridget & and Darren are just fire together. I love how Bridget holds her own, and isn’t shy about being herself, or intimidated by others with wealth or power, she holds her own. I also love reading how Darren becomes obsessed with her- that she’s just different. The present is Darren catching up with her after she’s been on the run for 2 years. The story just ends, not really a cliff hanger, but enough that you want to keep reading to see how it all pans out. How he finds out about Evan, and what set of events caused Bridget to run in the first place. Great shortish read. I plan on reading more in the series!

This book wasn't it for me. It was written in such a way it made the story line feel like it went too fast forward. It ended with a cliffhanger that comes so abruptly which is really weird.

There was a scene where the male character kidnapped the female character, basically forced himself on her and ignored her safeword when she used it. This book portrayed BDSM lifestyle in a really bad way. Safe words are not to be ignored at any circumstances, which makes me angry that the author wrote it like that. The author sexualise rape (as the male forces himself on the female after kidnapping her, even tho she’a crying from the pain) and portrays bdsm sex in the wrong way.
This was just disgusting

Two college friends start dating cousins with ties to the Triad. Darren and Bridget get it on,,,,, they really burn up the sheets. It is funny because Darren is a hot commodity and Bridget she is different than his usual conquests. Bridget is conscientious, roots for the underprivileged and keeps up with current events. Seems that Darren can't get his mind off her and wonders how she would respond to BDSM. It seems he is slowwwwly introducing her to it and apparently she is responding well. This has a past/present dual POV's which is great. It really allows one to get to know the characters. A very good book. I do recommend.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read
Entertaining
Page-turner
Realistic
Steamy
Unpredictable
Witty
Wonderful characters

Loved the book it was great, the story was written well and the characters were interesting. Darren owns the hottest club, Bridget went to the fancy club with her room-mate, while waiting for her friend, she had an altercation with Darren then found out he was the owner. He thought she was beautiful despite her clothing she wore out to the club. Bridget did not know that he had something to do with the mafia so when something bad went down she ran. It had action, drama, danger, suspense, anger, fearful, hot, steamy, sizzling pleasures, arousing desire, and lust.

This is Darren who is the typical bad boy. Bridget who is the typical good girl and single mom. Bridget ends up in the bar Darren owns and he insults her sweater and she throws a drink at him. Not a wise move, but she has spunk. Bridget had a boyfriend that was mixed up in an international triad and when her roommate was killed she ran away. Darren hunts her down and kidnaps her. This has some violence and adult language and themes. That is what makes this a great story. I loved it. I cannot wait to read the next books. This is a three part series so there is a cliffhanger to be continued.
