Sometimes to get what you want; you need to risk everything you have.
Mia Griffin should be preparing for her wedding to Lucas Foster but there’s a dark shadow hanging over the nuptials in the form of Xavier Moretti. The cruel Don has yet to show his face and rather than be sitting ducks, the pair decide to track him down. Unable to trust that nothing will go back to his son, Gabe, they enlist help from outside the family in hopes to keep things under wraps.
But the fallout from their bid to gain power is starting to eat away at Mia. The game is getting messier and despite Luc’s best attempts to keep her clear of it all, Mia finds herself at the centre. After more than one wrong play, Mia winds up in front of Xavier in an unexpected showdown. At rock bottom, will she be able to outwit him one final time or will Xavier be her undoing? Everything is on the line and Mia has one shot to get everything she’s worked for: her family, her freedom and her life.
This is the stunning finale to Luc and Mia's journey to power.

What an incredible conclusion to an unforgettable series. A story that has left an impact so strong, it'll be ages to recuperate from the emotional currents. Dante. Luc. Mia. Once again readies themselves against the final battle; this time, all bets are off. Nobody harms the Queen and if they dare, then they have to face with not one, but two main Devils.
This story has solely focused on Mia and her growth, both as the queen and a wife, a mother. The true mastermind. When once again faced off with Xavier and unexpected possible enemies, the tables are turned in the Foster family. Who will stay true to the family? Who will betray?
Dante, my guy... He's always a pleasure to read. Be it angry or sarcastic or even playful. He's the only constant in the Foster family's lives. A brother, a friend, an ally. He sacrifices it all. He gives it all. He proves there's no loyalty above friendship, blood or not. These two: Luc and Dante will always have a special place in my life.
And my God! At nowhere I managed to not swoon for Luc. He's the epitome of perfection, flaws and all. His role as a father or the don to the famiglia balances above everything.
If you're looking for an intense, Steamy, action-packed, well written Mafia romance, then one-click Zavi's Foster Family series.
Good to have a strong heroine in a book especially a mafia book. Other than that it was a great story that kept me turning the pages. It wasn’t “dark” in my opinion but some may disagree. It was however a great story about two people who found love and wanted to build a family of their own with haters and secrets.
Duty & Death is the end of the story of Mia, Lucas & Dante, who have become very special characters to me since I first read them, for that reason I was very excited about know the outcome of this series, but I was also very afraid of the surprises that Zavi James could give us in this last book, fortunately, I think has done justice to these characters, because the plot is so great, as always, and I really enjoyed how everything unfolds from beginning to end, with some funny touches, mostly delivered by Lucas & Dante, surprises, unexpected twists, many emotional moments and an epilogue that I didn’t expect, and I didn't even know that I needed.
In this last part I read a Lucas who is a combination of Beauty and the Crime Boss & Regrets and Revenge, as he’s a much calmer man most of the time, he still has his reckless and impulsive moments, because otherwise he would not be the Lucas that I love, but I think he has finally found his valance, in large part thanks to Mia, but also because he seeks to protect the people he loves at all costs and decides to think with a cool head more often. Another facet that is explored much more in this book is his fatherhood: he and Link gave me many of my favorite moments in this story, as I have loved reading to Lucas being an adorable, tender and dedicated father, who shares small conversations with his cub that are well worth reading.
In the case of Mia I met the same strong, brave girl with a huge heart that I have loved from the beginning, but this time she’s much more involved in the family business, actively participates in search of Xavier and I LOVE that he’s the key piece to achieve the goals that she, Lucas and Dante have. Another thing that I really liked about this character is the way in which Zavi represented motherhood through her, since she’s a dedicated, loving, and interested mother with her little one, but she also lets us know that she’s exhausted with everything she have to face, and that it isn’t bad to feel that way.
And Dante, the new great love of my life, this character is my favorite from the first book and in this last one my love keeps growing more every moment. I think that Dante is the character who bears the most emotional load during this book, because he’s constantly struggling with his feelings towards Tori, the loyalty and great love he has towards Mia & Lucas and the fear that they feel at a certain moment regarding the desire for power that the three share, all this added to the arrival of a new character that turns their life upside down. I have to say that I think Zavi made him suffer a lot in this book, but I loved the result, because Dante continues to be that valance between the impulsivity in Lucas & Mia, who thinks about the consequences that their reckless choices can have, and the cutest, loveliest and funniest man I've ever read.
These three characters are, without a doubt, my favorites of all the books I've read, I think this hasn't happened to me since Will, Jem & Tessa, and I think in a way their relationship is very similar (without the love triangle), because Lucas, Dante & Mia share an unconditional love and loyalty that has led them to protect each other regardless of the consequences, to form a relationship that goes beyond the ties of blood and in which they can always trust. That is why all the moments they share are my favorites, but there are two in particular that are very moving: Mia & Dante share an even more special link in this book, since they are their mutual comfort in moments that are very important to both of them, especially Dante for Mia, as he helps her maintain hope when she needs it most. On the other hand, it has always been stated that Lucas & Dante are two brothers who chose each other, but I think it has never been so clear as in Duty and Death, where Lucas narrates a very special moment between the two, in which they are vulnerable and make the love between them more noticeable.
But if it’s about love Lucas & Mia are the perfect example: in this book their relationship is completely solid, I read them being happy, planning for the future, being adorable parents, planning a wedding, but also having disagreements and resolving them in a mature and civilized way, all while seeking his rise to power and trying to protect Link from the consequences. Also, I think that in this last book Lucas is even more willing to show her feelings for Mia to protect her and defend her from any person or situation and put the world to her feet fulfilling her promises.
And in case everything that is written wasn’t enough, Duty & Death has a perfect plot in which things do not always go as Mia, Luc & Dante plan them, and in which since new threats and surprises arise within the family at the beginning. One of the things I liked the most was the role that Mia played throughout the book, from her compassion causing her some problems, to her relevance and courage in the most important moments, and that is that Mia has never been the defenseless protagonist who needs to be rescued, but this time she’s a girl who has the same ambitions to achieve power as the two men at her side, and they are more than happy to help her achieve it. Definitely, the biggest of my surprises was the turn that Xavier’s actions took, I think Zavi created a perfect villain: no heart and who only seeks his own benefit no matter who he has to sacrifice along the way, Gabe is also a pleasant surprise in this book, because he’s a character who makes a 360º turn in history. But what I enjoyed the most, and suffered, was the realism that Zavi James gave to Luc, Mia & Dante's fight, since, in one way or another, none of them manage to come out unscathed from his plans.
Finally, the epilogue gave me everything I didn't know I needed, I can't say what happens because it's a huge spoiler, but I can assure that for the people who love this story and its characters it's a great gift, one that leaves some doubts and causes a lot of curiosity, but above all it leaves me wanting more of its protagonists.
Duty and Death is the PERFECT ENDING to the journey that Lucas, Mia & Dante have traveled, one full of betrayal, love, loyalty, doubt and alliances, but most importantly, one in which all three have found their family and with it their place in the world. Without a doubt, I am going to miss these characters a lot and it makes me very sad to say goodbye to them, but I have the consolation that I can always return to their story whenever I want.

Many thanks to Books and Moods and Zavi James for this great trip.

Duty & Death by Zavi James is the third book and conclusion of the Foster Family Series. In this thrilling conclusion, Zavi James has delivered a powerful tale of love, loss, loyalty, duty, and death. After the birth of their son Link, Mia and Luc are set to wed soon; however, the dangers of their past still lurk in the shadows. Xavier is still on the run and poses a threat to Mia and Luc’s happiness. Right off the bat, we get thrown into the action-packed world of Mia, Luc, and Dante. As they struggle to find their enemies these characters really shine.
Mia was thrust into Luc’s world without warning. The once shy and reserved woman has taken things in stride and become the strong-willed, confident, powerful woman who knows how to play her cards right.
Luc, the once aggressive, irrational, and sad man marred by the loss of his father has changed after finding love with Mia. Luc has tamed some of his aggressive, impulsive actions and instead has become a more mature man who listens to those around him and bides his time until the opportune moment to strike.
Dante has always been loyal to Luc, and his loyalty now extends to Mia as well. Dante has continuously proved he will always side with Luc and Mia no matter who he has to go against.
Duty & Death is the perfect culmination of the betrayals, lies, deceit, sorrow, loss, heartbreak, and love these characters have experienced in this series. Packed with emotion, unexpected twists, and unforeseen surprises, Duty & Death is the ending these characters deserve. I have loved Mia, Luc, and Dante, and seen them grow into realistically flawed characters and I am going to miss them. These characters work together in a way I did not expect. They balance each other out and continue to prove that family is not simply bound by blood, but those who chose to walk the difficult path by your side in the true test of love and loyalty.
I loved how strong both the leads came out to be. They worked through their issues well. I loved Dante and respected him for his choices. Epilogò was definitely fascinating and Very interesting. Overall A really good book. Loved reading it.
The final book in the Foster's Series is a 5 out of 5! I don't think that I could give it an other rating if I wanted too. The book finishes up the series with a bang, and with the title summing up the gist of the book I don't want to say too much. This book also has some hott scenes, giving it a Serrano Pepper pepper scal rating. The chemestry between the two main characters Lucas and Mia is something that has been written well throughout the whole series. Zavi James is a very talented writter that if sure to make a name for herself in the Dark Romance trope. This is not my favorite trope, but if Zavi is writting a book I will be willing to read it and see, because if this series is anything to go by she may have made a convert out of me.
This book being the last series in the book is not one that you can read without reading the previous two. I think that this book is as well written as the first two and covers everything that is needed to end the series while still leaving you wanting more. There is plenty of violence and crime in this book as there is in the two previous, but in this story everything is justified.
I recommend this book to only those who can stomach criminal dramas with violence. I would HIGHLY recommend that anyone who wants to read this book read the other two books first. Being that I don't want to give any spoilers away, I will say that this book pick up where book two leaves off.
I hope this has helped you find your next Tantalizing Tome!
Duty and Death is the third and final book in the ( Foster FamilySeries ) What a end to Mia and Lucas story .it is so beautifully written .I have been in love with this entire series since the very first book , it is so full of emotion , and I have loved watching how Mia and Lucas have grown and Matured though each book .The world building, the character development, the way Zavi grabs on to our emotions and knows just how to keep us so invested until the very end of each book , is the perfect example of why she or truly such a talented writer. It did not take me long to get through this wonderful wow delicious book . I devoured it in a little less than 3 hours . This is a series that should not be missed ❤️
This was a very action pact conclusion to this very twisted mafia series. Save James has once again delivered a story filled with love, loss, loyalty, duty, and death. Once again Dante is forever my favorite I absolutely loved his character and I'm glad his conclusion was well deserved. I'm also glad that redemption was a huge theme within this story, redemption for family and love, combined with loyalty is truly powerful. This was a very enjoyable series and I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves a good mafia story.
Best books I’ve read The Foater Family Books are great it’s got everything you could want in a book danger, love, secrets, enemies, romance, family it once I started I couldn’t stop read it on way to work break on way home every chance I could get, u wouldn’t be disappointed
Each book in this trilogy outdoes the last. I could not imagine a better ending for Mia and Luc. Mia has come so far and is such a fabulous heroine. Luc is so wonderful and knows the value of his queen. Then that épilogue...can't wait!
At the conclusion of Luc and Mia's story it brings everything together, the betrayal and lies went so deep the secrets were bad and it just made me want to start reading it all again, fantastic read, fabulous series. I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Book three of the Foster family series. The final one which brings us to the end of this journey a very intricate storyline full of twists and cliffhangers just when you think you got it everything changes, great story and amazing characters, worth every moment
The suspense through the whole series was real. It'll knock you down like a house of cards in the wind. You'll feel the characters pain throughout and often times say "why!?". This conclusion was just as good as the first two books. I'm glad I went through the journey that is this story.
It was a good way to end the 3 book series, but there could've been a lot more to the story. Spice level 2 out of 5, character development 2 out of 5. I really wanted this series to be better, especially with the Mafia aspect of it.
A beautifully written, phenomenal end to Mia and Luc's story.
The character development throughout this series is truly remarkable. In Death & Duty we are given a Mia and Lucas who have been through so much together and matured in ways that didn't seem possible when they first met.
The book is well paced and totally binge worthy. I didnt want to put it down
This book felt a little drawn out to me. It could have been addressed in the last book. But I did love the epilogue from Lincoln’s perspective! That was really cool!
This book had me hook, line and sinker from the start. The amazing way it was written made you feel like you were right there experiencing everything, from the physical to the emotional. I’ve already recommended it to others although I was still have way through it. Amazing read!
In this last installment of the Foster Family series, Zavi delivers a powerful, emotional, gripping and wonderful story that tugs on your heartstrings.
If you have been a lover of Mia, Lucas and Dante from the beginning then you know the trials and tribulations that they have gone through and in this book, they are challenged even more.
Mia and Luc have a beautiful little boy, Linc, that everyone is fussing over. Unfortunately, there are still secrets that need to come out and that could result in heartbreak and death. Will they ever get their lives back to normal? When Mia is in danger all hell breaks out and Luc and Dante are out for blood. They have an idea who is behind the attack however, Gabe is denying it. Could Xavier be back or is he making Gabe be his puppet? Will the other families follow Luc and what happens if the secret gets out?
Mia is still the strong-willed, feisty female that we have all come to love. She had frown so much from the first book and it is evident in the way that she projects herself in regards to the family business. She is more involved with the running of the business and the outcomes.
Luc had also grown since the first book. Although he is still a reactor he seems to think a little, at times, before he acts. Could this be because he has Linc and Mia calms him? He will always protect what is his and now there is more on the line. Will he allow Gabe and Xavier to ruin him or his family? Will the danger that Mia is in cause a war between the families?
Dante is heartbroken with Tori as she is being loyal to her family and not showing Dante and support. He will always put Mia and Luc first but he loves Tori. Dante suffered in this book more than the first two. Between the heartbreak with Tori, Mia's attacks and a family member, that he really does not want to include in the family situations, Dante needs to be even stronger in order to survive. He still seems to be the one that holds everything together. He and Luc do have a few laughs and he is always willing to take Linc and spoil him. Like he has said numerous times "Linc is his". Dante is the ultimate "book-boyfriend" and will forever hold a place in my heart. Luc and Dante are brothers through and through.
Throughout this series, the three of them have had to deal with, lies, secrets, deceit, revenge, hatred, losses and finally true love. They have shown that when the family works together anything can be accomplished.
Zavi knows how to pull on your heartstrings and get you so emotionally involved in her books that you want to keep reading and are upset when you see the words The End. Her writing is outstanding and gripping. She has you worried as you turn the page because of what twist she has thrown in to get your stomach in knots. I am sad to see this is the end for Mia, Luc, Linc, and Dante, however, the epilogue gave us an insight into their future and it needs to be told. I am hoping that in the future Zavi will grace us with the possibility of a fourth book about the children of all three of them.
Zavi thank you for sharing your passion for writing and for these wonderful characters with us, your readers. I look forward to more books by you and filling up by bookshelves with your wonderful novels.
I've been with this family from the start, and let me tell you one thing, I LOVE THEM! I don't usually write reviews, but when I do, you know the book is amazing. If there were more than 5 stars I'd give them. It has everything, schemes, betrayal AT ITS WORSE (I'm not spoiling just, don't trust anyone 😂), Mia Luc and Dante trying to save their family from a bastard boss who has a Zeus complexe and feels threatened by them, Xavier wants their heads, especially Mia's, but that woman is taking shit from no one and will rise all hells to protect her loved ones, she went from a brave girl who traded her freedom for her fathers life, to the badass queen that everyone fears. Luc is, well, Luc 😂 he can be so stupid but his heart's in the right place and he would sacrifice a limb for his family 😉😉😉. Dante, poor Dante went through hell in this book, he had it really bad but he knew having his family by his side would be enough to heal. Guys, this book had me in tears of sadness laughter and frustration, it's the perfect ending for a perfect series... Or is it? Just, enjoy the epilogue 👌🏼😂
