Skye has burned with the power of a star for as long as she can remember. Her abilities leave her unable to feel her emotions freely without destruction. She never expected a life for herself outside of the Towers where other mages kept her contained the first twenty years of her life. The only way out of their captivity is as the wife of a man who can pay the price, willing to take responsibility for the damage a mage like her could do. The king of Solde-al has far different plans for her. Zandorian Al says he wants nothing but to make her queen and let her rule. Son of the last mage who possessed her power, he can withstand her fire. But can she ever love someone who may only want her for his own gain?Golden Sun is the first book of the Stardropped series as told from Skye’s point of view.
A female protagonist with moods and emotion-swayed magic? Say no more. I was delighted to add this to my growing collection of Sinclair's works. I have enjoyed everything this author has written, and I can't wait to read sequels and future stories of theirs! I am forever impressed by their ability to juggle various worlds at once. They are surely either a genius or a sorcerer.
Zan is an absolute dear, emotionally intelligent and grown. We love that in a king. Skye is a fireball operating on caution, a more relatable MC I do not know. Together they overcome challenges of the heart and navigate complex political alliances. Will they work together? Or will stubbornness stunt their success?
This is a great, sweet little novel especially if you're into:
- emotion-based magic that isn't just based on elements - soft and sweet male love interest, where his angst doesn't overpower his kindness - cool, atypical female leads (going feral) - light fantasy politics - political-marriage-to-lovers - respectful and genuine romance that's just the right bit of spicy
