How far would you go to avoid your Destiny?

What depth would you travel to change your Fate?

How much would you risk before surrendering to the Chosen path?

Faria Agostonna, heir to the Queendom of Anestra, is tired of hearing about the Fates. That she must follow her Destiny. That it is already Chosen for her. Knowing she needs to be life-bonded in an archaic Elven ceremony makes it even worse. But when a darkness invades her land and threatens her people’s existence, Faria must figure out what sacrifices will need to be made and how far she will have to go to choose what is right for her people, even if it means ignoring the needs of her heart.

Nellie, a teenaged shapeshifter banished from Earth, spent years living in Anestra disguised as a human. After whisperings of a Warlock rebellion begin to surface, Nellie is recruited by Queen Amira to do whatever it takes to protect Faria – no matter the cost. Grappling with the risk of revealing her true nature, Nellie must come to terms with the depths she will travel to prevent the Final Battle and whether she has what it takes to protect her best friend, even if it means revealing the truth of her deception.

Spurred by their rebellious nature, both girls discover the truth of a lost prophecy, face the betrayal of those closest to them, and discover how many pieces of themselves they are willing to surrender to the dark magic that calls to them to save not only their home, but all connected to it.

“It happened because of the secrets she kept. The visions. They always started the same.”

With a stunning cover and more than a handful of glowing reviews, trust me when I say that “Chosen to Fall” is bound to become your next bookish addiction. Emmie Hamilton’s debut is a YA Fantasy story that focuses on two girls: Faria Agostonna, heir to the Queendom of Anestra, and Nellie, her best friend who also happens to be a shapeshifter on the run.

As the Agostonna princess that will soon be crowned queen, Faria knows that Fate isn’t going to cut her any slack. She’s been getting nerve-wracking nightmares; there’s civil unrest among the warlock population; and she’s expected to get life-bonded to a man and produce an heir as soon as possible, despite the fact that the one her heart desires is the one she can’t possibly have.

Meanwhile, Nellie has been hiding who she truly is since she arrived in Anestra. As a human shapeshifter, many would try to either neutralise her or use her—both being options that don’t sound particularly appealing to her.

Despite the magic that enforces peace in Anestra since the Agostonnas became the royal family, there’s been a restlessness thrumming through the earth for some time now. Faria can’t seem to stop getting nerve-wracking nightmares; there’s rumours of civil unrest among the warlock population; and the queen is determined to see her daughter married and with child as soon as possible. With all of this piling on their plates, Faria and Nellie will soon find themselves right in the middle of a tangle of family secrets, fate, and deceit.

Whether one is a fan of fantasy or not, no-one can deny Emmie Hamilton’s exceptional gift for weaving together immersive atmospheres, lush scenery, and vivid imagery. As I turned the pages I found myself exploring the beautiful queendom of Anestra right by Faria and Nellie’s side, envisioning each of the characters they interacted with and every scene that took place. The narrative was easy to follow, immersive, and gentle, thus turning this book into a pleasant experience from cover to back.

There’s also her ability to create DRAMA, of course! In uppercase! The romantic tension between Faria and Hunter took my breath away every single time, and the Lord knows how weak in the knees their resolution made me! I still get light-headed remembering a certain kiss in the forest, and aw, I need to see what’s in store for them! My babies!

I really loved that Emmie explored the nuances to a seemingly perfect society, and how no system is truly ideal and invulnerable. Despite the magic enforcing peace in Anestra, it still finds conflict from those who resent the Queen, and the queendom still finds itself on the verge of war despite the royal family’s best efforts at avoiding belicism. It did prompt me to reflect upon how this compares to our own world, and I’m intrigued to see where it’ll go next!

All in all, “Chosen to Fall” was a truly delightful read. I’m so ready to dive into the second part of this trilogy!

Chosen to Fall by Emmie Hamilton

🌟🌟🌟 🌟 ½

I heard about Chosen to Fall from an Indie Author group I’m part of and it sounded interesting so I picked it up. Guys, it did not disappoint! I finished the whole thing in a few days. It gets a 4 ½ stars for me because as usual I did predict more than I wanted to, but that being said, I have not given a 5 star review out in 2020 or 2021 so this book is one of the highest I’ve rated.

It’s a high fantasy YA book (more mature YA though - like 14 or 15 plus) and I had a blast reading it. I laughed, I yelled at characters, I rolled my eyes, and I wanted things to work out my way and I’m happy to say they did. There are twists and turns, and things to keep you guessing.

A few parts were predictable to me, but you’ll have to read it to see if you catch them all. It had the right amount of world building for my taste, and I can’t wait for the second book to see how much the characters change and grow!

It also had several really unique elements that made it really fun to read. Honestly, it’s my favourite Indie book I’ve read to date!

I can't believe that this was a debut novel. It captured my attention and I was so invested in the characters, but also on the plot. You get to see many realms, many creatures, elemental magic, romance, palpable chemistry between the protagonists, awesome secondary characters. I just fell in love with everyone and everything.

Nellie was also one of my favorite characters and she was such an interesting personality. I loved her chapters and her side story. I hope we get to see more of her in the next book. Hunter was also a character and I couldn't wait for him to appear in the scene.

If you enjoy reading about magical realms, elves, fae and other creatures, then I definitely recommend this book!

How far are you willing to go to change your fate?

Heir to the throne of Anestra, Faria Agostonna is tired of hearing of prophecies and a destiny she has been chosen to fulfill. When darkness comes to claim the world, will she submit to fate or choose her own destiny?

Review:

Hamilton’s world building is as fascinating as it is rich in this powerful YA fantasy debut. With side characters to love, a high stakes plot and your sure-to-be new book boyfriend Hunter… you don’t want to miss out on this one!

Holy fucking shit - Review to come soon

The fact that I loved this book has not surprised me, Emmie is such an amazing writer and continues to amaze me with every turn of the page!

I adored the characters. Nellie was a fantastic character that displayed immense loyalty, humility and patience in the most difficult of situations. She was a fantastic friend, even when they didn’t necessarily deserve it.
Hunter - I absolutely adored him, he was the perfect grumpy/broody swoon-worthy character, but he also had layers to him. He’s loyal to a fault, self aware and will always do his best to keep the people he cares about safe.
Faria was by far the most complex of them all, she came across quite selfish at times when we really needed her not to be, but considering the circumstances I can say that her portrayal was beautifully realistic. Nobody likes to be kept in the dark by the people around them, especially when it’s regarding their own fate. I viewed Faria and Nellie as two sides of the same coin as there were many similarities in their journeys. Both were thrust into roles they didn’t want, and you can see how each reacted differently.

Emmie has a knack for writing hateable characters. Some had barely had any page time and I still want to grind their bones into dust. It’s a skill, and Emmie possesses it in bucketfuls.

The romantic tension was second to none. There were times where I was shouting, telling them to just bloody kiss already! The tension was off the charts and I can say I absolutely adore the Hunter/Faria relationship and I really hope it can be continued in future books!

The use of magic was really well done. It was unique and well explained whenever it arose as a plot point. The plot itself was fast paced and definitely got you stuck into the action pretty quickly which I really enjoyed.

I really adored the direction the plot went in this book and I am dying to pick up book two asap! I can’t wait to see what happens to the characters and the queendom of Anestra following the epic plot twist at the end of book 1!

For starters, this cover is stunning!

This story kept me wanting to read and I loved every moment of it. Hunter is my favorite, but there are just so many great characters! The world building was wonderful as well. I cannot wait for book two as I really need to know what happens next!

The fact that there were so many secrets kept from Faria was so frustrating for not only her, but the reader as well. I thought it was executed well.

Definitely recommend this book!

Emmie Hamilton's debut on how an elven princess is destined to save her people is full of suspense, heartbreak, tragedy and love--all mixed together with an overarching prophecy. Faria is a strong willed teenager who's still trying to find her way, feeling as though she is ill equipped to be the savoir of her people.

Faria wants a life for herself, she wants to be able to make her own choices--and yet, it is this desire to control her own fate that may have just turned the prophecy on its head. Aided by a great supporting cast of Hunter and Nellie, both with their own parts to play, Faria gets to finally fight back against the life that was decided for her, even before she was born.

I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the sequel!

A wonderful debut by Emmie! First of all, please allow me to thank you for giving us Hunter, TRULY. It is very difficult not to fall in love with the characters while reading this book (and I mean certain charming side characters *wink wink*) The plot throughout the read leaves you wanting more. Cannot wait to read Book 2.

Brilliant debut! The characters, the world, the magic system are all phenomenal. I can’t wait to see what comes next from Faria, Nellie, Hunter, and dastardly Darroc! If you love an engrossing cross worlds fantasy, badass female protagonists, sexy magic, and shady creatures, Chosen to Fall will be your next favorite read.

*this arc was sent to me by the author to give an honest review I’m return*

This was a good read. Farina as the heir of her kingdom where she is Chosen in her Destiny and must face some sacrifices in order to save her kingdom from darkness. I enjoyed the new story in this new world that was complex but easy to understand. Even though the world building and story were both great, I have to say the the writing was a little messy in some areas. The pacing was off and the story didn’t really flow as much. Even though the world building was easy to understand, I felt that it was too much of the world building vs everything else. Like the story was good but the plot structure wasn’t well structured as the story layer a little flat in the middle towards that last 30ish pages. Though I did enjoy that this book had two different PoVs with some other bonuses along the way.

I enjoyed the main character, Faria. She was very brave but a little too clueless at times. She was enjoyable to read about but I felt that she didn’t have a good character development in the book like she should have. Also the second main character, Nellie, was such a fun reader and my favorite character. I enjoyed her character development in this book and enjoyed her travels. She has so many secrets that I can’t wait to know more about in the second book. There are also some side characters where some layed a little flat as I think we should have known more about them with some that were very well done. In this book there was a mix of well done characters and some that needed more development. Also I didn’t really feel the romance between the Faria and Hunter as I didn’t really see any huge romantic connection between them or anything that development over the book. I wish there was more to the romance in this book then there was.

The ending was well done with a lot of action and a plot twist. I’m still going to be reading the next book just to see what happened next. I did have some minor problems with this book mostly with the writing style as in pacing, plot structure and also romance. I think readers will enjoy reading this book!

“We are all cut from the same material from the beginning, and our endings are all the same.”

Chosen to Fall, the first book in The Destined Series by Emmie Hamilton, follows Faria, the heir to the Queendom of Anestra as she prepares to rule. During this time she must navigate the difficulties of wanting to do what is best for her people but also not wanting to lose herself to past traditions and a future that is seemingly determined by The Fates.

The story is told in mostly a dual POV between Faria and her best friend Nellie. The chapters are written well and I did not have any problem figuring out who was narrating (sometimes I struggle with if there are multiple POVs). The dual POV also allows you in on secrets that even Faria did not know. As a reader I appreciated that, it allowed me to understand the world and the stakes but still didn’t give everything away.

Faria is an awesome female protagonist with magical abilities that she learns to control over the course of the book. She is very loyal to her Queendom and will do anything to protect them. She goes through a substantial amount of growth throughout the book. She starts to fight for what she wants and thinks is best, not just what she is told is best. She is very naive to the world in the beginning, and of course this leads to conflict. But she is smart and capable and works hard to win internal and external battles! I also actually really enjoyed Nellie, she was a secret protective sister with shifter magic of her own. I really enjoyed her humor and how she was always trying to help Faria be the best she could be. She was a very well written supporting character, I think we would all love to have someone like her in our life. Other characters include Faria's parents, a hunky weapons master, a conflicted warlock, and of course the evil warlock. There will be plenty of boys to swoon over, including said hunky weapons master who had my heart early on.

The world building and magic system were beautifully done. I obviously absolutely loved that Anestra was a Queendom always ruled by females. This was done in a way that did not take away from the males. The King was powerful in his own right but knew that his wife was in charge and knew what was best for the Queendom! The magic is certainly a unique take and you can tell the author did extensive research and preparation for this. There are many different elements to magic and people with different abilities or sources of power. However at the beginning it was a little complex and could be a little confusing until I got it all sorted out. Especially some of the history and the different beings.

Overall I thought this was a fun quick indie fantasy read. I would recommend this book for those who like unique magical systems, slow-burn romances, strong female protagonists, and interesting multifaceted stories and characters. Once I got into the book it did not take me very long to read at all. The ending will definitely have you wanting to start book two right away! Thankfully that has been recently released so you have no excuse to pick this up now!

Emmie's debut is a gentle push into a fantasy realm, with elves, warlocks, shapeshifters and more. She paints a beautiful world, with magic that an imaginative mind yearns for. The main characters are explored thoroughly, their flaws unashamedly laid bare at times, but their purpose and desire to give love and be loved keeps them grounded and gives the reader many heroes to champion.

I really loved Nellie's character. She seemed to inadvertently tie the human realm to the world on the page, giving us some comical and relatable phrases and moments that helped place the reader into the heart of the story.

There were moments you feel like screaming at the characters for not being bold enough to take control of their own fate, but it is all part of drawing you into the world and the many rules and traditions that it is bound by. I'm interested to how to this develops in the series and hopefully will find a resolution to what was set up at the end of the book.

This is a great reminder to support indie authors, recognising that great stories are told not simply with an imagination and a platform, but through extreme hard work, dedication, passion and love. Each of which is very clear in Emmie's writing.

This was a great and fast read. I really like how in the story the queendom is ruled by the queen. Faria, our main character, is the heir of the throne and spends her day preparing herself to rule after her mother. The story is also told in multiple points of view which gives us, the readers, the opportunity to have way more information than Faria has. She’s kept in the dark with so many important things that at times it gets a little frustrating but I believe the reasons behind so many secrets will be explained in the next book. The romance here was good. I always enjoy some good fashioned enemies to lovers. Can’t wait to read the next installment, that ending left me in the edge of my seat.

I'm so happy I picked up this book! I was completely Invested in the characters, especially Hunter. I was drawn to him immediately which didn't surprise me the main character was also. The world building was created with enough detail that allowed me to visually picture the surroundings as well as the magic system. The pacing kept me engaged throughout and never once was I bored. The romance was perfect for my taste with it sprinkled here and there and building up to make your heart race. Wonderful job Emmie and can't wait to read the second book.

I’d like to thank Emmie Hamilton for providing me with a copy of Chosen to Fall to review! The book is absolutely stunning and feel very luck to have a copy.

The characters in this book were absolutely brilliant and I instantly fell in love with Nellie. She’s kind and loyal and she’s the friend that we all hope to have. I throughly enjoyed reading chapters from her view point! In another breath, Faria’s POV chapters provided a stunning contrast! Faria is confused and caught up in herself and although a part of me wanted to dislike her slightly selfish outlook….I couldn’t!! The writing was done so well that I actually sympathised with her in the frustration she felt from being kept in the dark! This was possibly one of the characters I’ve felt most connected to this year!

Emmie has a talent for changing how I feel about a character with every chapter! This really gave characters depth and kept me on my toes. I often found that I didn’t know who to trust and who to love!

The magic and plot in the book felt very well planned and although I feel that a lot of important points have not been revealed yet, the plot was easy to follow. World building was also done well, however I sort of feel like a lot of this aspect has been left for book two!

The pace of the book starts fast and continues this way throughout, making it a very fast read. Chapters got shorter as the book went on which I really enjoyed as any unnecessary detail was avoided.

My favourite elements of the book were:
- The use of a queendom #girlpower
- The mysterious male
- Jumping straight into the action

I would strongly recommend this book to people who enjoyed The Folk of the Air series and A Deal with the Elf King!

What It's About:
Elf Princess Faria has been told that she is chosen and that her fate has already been decided. She cannot be with the man she feels most drawn to, and must bond with a warlock to save her people. Her best friend, Nellie is a disguised shape-shifter tasked with doing whatever necessary to keep her safe. Together, they must face a dark magic invading the land, and figure out who they can trust and if they should each follow their hearts or obey the fates.

What I liked:
- Strong female leads
- Elf and Warlock magic
- Sexy male love interest
- Indie published

What I didn't like:
- would have liked a little more description of their surroundings

Overall, I thought the book was phenomenal! I could hardly put it down!

Chosen to Fall is such an incredible read! I enjoyed the multiple POV of Faria and Nellie, as it gave so much information for the reader, while keeping it from the main character. It was fun seeing what Faria would do with the information as she gathered it herself.

The idea of this fantastical world being in an alternate realm from ours really intrigued. me. Many times fantasy worlds are outside of our own existence, but this book eludes to being connected to our own world/time through character's memories and conversations.

The character connections/relationships made me invest

I am eager to see what happens with this story in book two!

Will Faria, princess of Anestra, choose a life for herself, following her desires, or will she fulfill her destiny and save her people from dark magic?

Chosen to Fall has everything you’d want in a YA fantasy and is the captivating debut novel by @authoremmiehamilton.

The plot is lush and includes multiple POVs with an intricate yet unencumbered magic system. The characters are complex and engaging, and I was living for the delicious will-they-won’t-they tension between Faria and Hunter. Nellie with her brash, humorous nature stole my heart, as well. I can’t wait to see how their stories unfold in the next two books. ✨

Chosen to Fall by Emmie Hamilton is a YA fantasy and the first in the Destined series. It's a magic filled story that follows Faria Agostonna and her journey to protect the Queendom of Anestra from prophesied ruin. Faria is trapped by her own fate and must choose to do anything for her people even when it conflicts with her heart. Faria is trained regularly in combat by the mysterious and dashing Hunter who is full of his own secrets and offers some excellent banter. Alongside her is Nellie who has been banished from Earth and cast into this new realm where she must hide her shifter abilities and do all she can to protect her friend Faria. The story is full of fates and prophecies beyond anyone's control along with rules that make sharing information about them all but impossible.
Let me start by saying one review I saw labeled this as a slump breaker and I can 100% verify that. This was an absolute joy to read and the mystery of the prophecies had me hooked. As the reader tries to navigate the world you can share in Faria's frustration of being left in the dark about her own fate as you're slowly fed more information. Not once was this an aggravation as it was so well teased that it added to the thrill of uncovering the prophecy alongside the characters. The romance is mostly fueled by yearning and never crosses the line into explicite. My only concern going in was that Nellie being from Earth would feel a little too sci-fi in a fantasy but the world crafted the connection of different realms so that it just felt normal. It was a true accomplishment to fit the amount of world building with the character relationships and story never taking a hit getting bogged down by the lore.
It's a fantasy that thrusts you directly into a new vibrant world and you love every second of it. It's a book that you finish and immediately have to order book 2 if you didn't have the foresight to do so ahead of time (like me). I can't recommend this enough for fans of fantasy looking for something a little off the beaten path.

Princess Faria Agostonna is the heir to the kingdom of Anesta and is the Chosen One. She’s tired of hearing how her fate had already been decided long before she was born. When darkness rises to swallow the world, will she succumb to fate or take the risk and make her own choices?

This fantasy romance novel is one enjoyable book to read. The story is narrated from three points of view which gives the readers the opportunity to glance at it from multiple perspectives. I enjoyed its main characters, worldbuilding, and plot, but I personally find the pacing and story structure to be a bit odd; there were scenes that gave you more questions than answers.

Faria is a brave and bold character, but for someone who is to become the next Queen, she lacked knowledge in aspects such as the reality of the outside world. Nellie is Faria’s friend and protector. I enjoyed reading Nellie’s POV the most. I love her quirky character and her sense of duty to the kingdom. I wished that Hunter was given a POV in the story too or that there was more information about him because he seems vague and the romance between him and Faria lacks substance because of the too many secrets.

I love the ending. The plot twist is jaw-dropping. The action in the last few chapters is awesome too. It totally made up for the lack of action in the first three-quarters of the book. I will definitely read the second one and hopefully, there will be more Faria and Hunter romance in it.

Chosen to Fall started off strong with fantastic world building, interesting characters, and the romance developing right from the beginning. I really enjoyed the way the world development wasn't shared as info dumps, but rather as reflections by characters or explained and experienced by characters first-hand.

The romance felt a little forced in parts, but I enjoyed the chemistry between the Faria (the main character) and Hunter (the love interest). I enjoyed the banter, but wish they would have had more time for the pacing of the relationship to not feel rushed.

The friendship between Nellie and Faria was definitely a highlight, with a strong sisterly bond despite their different pasts and the secrets they keep from each other.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading Chosen to Fall and I'm looking forward to the sequel soon!

Book 1 of The Destined Series. I was transported into another world the Queendom of Anestra. A world so well developed and believable I felt like I was there.

I loved that there are strong female protagonists in this story. I equally loved Princess Faria and Nellie. Loved how Faria is equal parts stubborn, strong and emotional. Loved Nellie's loyalty and humour. Loved how both will stop at nothing to protect the ones they love. Loved their brutally honest thirst and yearning for what they want.

One word - Hunter. The tension between Faria and Hunter. You will feel their thirst.

A story about fate, destiny, choices, love, pain, friendship, loyalty, evil, betrayal... and so much more. Would you risk changing your destiny?

The ending is not the ending. I am glad this story is not over. You will be left hanging for Book 2 of the Destined Series which comes out in November. Read it.

“Chosen to Fall” by Emmie Hamilton, was an amazing YA Fantasy story, filled with a thrilling mix of magic, adventure, and romance. The world-building was rich and immersive, while the plot was fast-paced and full of high stakes. I was completely hooked from beginning to end.

Ultimately, the characters were what really made the story for me. They were well-developed and perfectly flawed.
Nellie was a clear standout. Her unwavering loyalty and courage made her reliable, and the kind of friend I’d like to keep.
Hunter was a swoon-worthy bloke with charisma in spades. He quickly won me over with his brooding charm. The romance between him and Faria was sizzling with tension! I loved every minute of it.

The ending of this book left me desperate for the sequel. Thankfully, it’s already out.
A must-read for all fantasy lovers!
