I absolutely love this world Stacey Marie Brown has created! Winterland is sanity and insanity all at once, and that’s exactly the way they like it and want it to be. And this second book in Dinah and Frost’s story is no less passionate or brutal than any other others in the series. This story has it all...passion, hate, horror, love, family, friends, alcoholic mice, overeating polar bears, and a FILF (you’ll have to read it to find out what that means 😉).
Dinah is finally starting to break out of her perfect shell of order and lists, but she struggles to fully let herself go to the sanity of insanity. Her white hot passion with Frost helps pull her more and more into their world, and even when she seems to be getting everything she ever wanted in her real world, she recognizes the cracks in the glass that pull her back to Winterland. The story sucked me in, and didn’t let go. And the further we got, the more characters we got to see again from Alice’s story, including Alice and Scrooge, the better the story got. In the end, it really became more about Dinah and Alice and their power and “muchness”, but getting there was relentless and very brutal. There is no holding back in both battles and passions, and it’s all the better for it. We even get Halloween pulled into the story, which adds an even more fascinating and intriguing twist to the already fully engrossing world we’ve come to know.
The two epilogues put a nice bow on the stories, leaving just enough space open for the story to continue, especially for a couple specific characters. I hope we get to continue the story, because I do truly love this world, and would very much love to get another chance to go back and visit it!
