High carbs & calories

One of the hardest parts of living gluten free is maintaining a healthy weight. The recipes in this book, all delicious no doubt, are extremely high in carbs, calories and fat. I found it of no help to me. When I first became gluten free, I made the mistake of thinking the ratio of calories/carbs to regular food was equal. I was sadly mistaken. If you want to help people NEW to gluten free, you might want to start them off with recipes that won't pack on the pounds.

The Gluten Free Cookbook for Beginners starts out with a great introduction, including everything one needs to know about being gluten free and how to set up the kitchen for success. The recipes are easy to follow, as they are not intimidating for beginners. The author includes how to shop for suitable products, tips for eating out, hidden sources of gluten, and go-to essentials.

The recipes are divided into logical sections, which I have listed below with some of my favorites.

Breakfast and Brunch: Glazed Donut Holes; Spinach, Bacon, and Mushroom Quiche; Easy Breakfast Tacos; Moist Coffee Cake

Snacks and Appetizers: Juicy Meatballs; Cheesy Potato Skins; Spiced Roasted Nuts; Mini Corn Dogs

Soups, Salads, and Sides: Easy Chicken Noodle Soup; Sesame-Ginger Chicken Chopped Salad; Vegetable Stew; Creamy Broccoli Salad; Au Gratin Potatoes

Meatless Mains: Southwest Quinoa Casserole; Cold Peanut Noodle Bowls; Fajita Rice Bowls; Fresh Herb Pizza

Meat and Seafood: Pork Chops with Creamy Gravy; Sweet and Sour Chicken; Chicken Nuggets; Beef Stir-Fry; Thai-Inspired Turkey Lettuce Wraps

Desserts: Peanut Butter Rocky Road Bars; White Chocolate Blondies; Easy Sugar Cookies; Double Chocolate Brownies

Dips, Dressings, and Sauces: Quick Queso Dip; Caesar Dressing; Teriyaki Sauce; Honey-Mustard Dressing

I do wish that the cookbook had included more photographs, as the finished dishes are quite inspiring. Overall, the Gluten Free Cookbook for Beginners is one that I would recommend to other readers.

Jessica Kirk has created a gluten-free cookbook that gives information about eating gluten-free, how to create a gluten-free kitchen, and offers 7 days of meal plans (which include breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner). She also offers 100 delicious sounding recipes in the categories of Breakfast & Brunch; Snacks & Appetizers; Soups, Salads, and Sides; Meatless Mains; Meat & Seafood; Desserts; and Dips, Dressings & Sauces.

This is well-done, and will certainly be a big help to those who must restrict gluten in their diets.

It's been difficult to suddenly not eat anything with gluten!

I've copied quite a few recipes that looked good from this book but it's hard to know if gluten free recipes will work out or not.

Most writers of gluten free cook books have their oven flour blend. Jessica Kirk recommends using Bob's red mill gluten free flour which I won't use since it contains bean flour.

I found some recipes for pork and chicken that looks good. Will get back after I've tried some recipes.

Try the chicken alfredo

My grandson has celiac disease. Since we've gone gluten free is healthy and growing. Dinner is a challenge if you buy this book for only one recipe make it the chicken Alfredo.
