Everyone—especially his estranged grandfather—thinks Private Avery Barnes is just a wealthy playboy. Yet the military taught him to value what can't be bought—honor and love. And if he wins the top prize at the cavalry competition, he'll show his grandfather he's made of more than his birthright. He needs lovely veterinarian's assistant Jennifer Grant to help him train. Except that Jennifer, from the "other side of the tracks," is wary about Avery's commitment—to the competition and to her. Until winning her heart becomes the greatest prize of all.
I was born and raised in Northcentral Kansas. I'm a farmer's daughter, but I now make my home in the city of Wichita. I'm an RN. Neonatal nursing has been the main focus of my career. What can I say? I love babies. I was invited to the highschool graduation of a baby I took care of. Talk about making me feel old!
In June of 2011 I became a widow after my husband of 36 years and 11 months died from multiple brain tumors. It was a very sad time, but thanks to the three f's, my faith, my family and my friends, life is moving forward. I have four brothers, one daughter and two grandchildren who all work at making me feel loved.
I'm the author of more than 30 books and I'm currently writing a series called The Brides of Amish Country for Love Inspired.
I feel like this book might have been better served as the 2nd of the 3 books in the series, as it was a continuation of events that occurred in the 1st novel. However, I do understand that the author needed this story to be set later so as to show that some time has passed since Jennifer and Avery initially met. That said, I enjoyed reading about their story. I had liked Jennifer's spunk from the first book, and liked getting to know her 'backstory' better in this book. I also appreciated understanding Avery's motivations as well. As with all 3 books in the series, my favourite part was not the storyline, but the historical aspect of the work the CGMCG does. This is a love inspired fiction novel. Private Avery Barnes is thought to be just a wealthy playboy but the military has taught him values. He wants to win the top prize at the cavalry competition and needs the help of vet assistant Jennifer. Some family conflict before the competition brings Avery's grandfather and Avery together and Jennifer and Avery also.
A faith-based contemporary romance that features a veterinarian's assistant and student, Jennifer Grant, and Avery Barnes, a man in the cavalry unit.
There's history between the pair, and Jennifer felt Avery broke her heart because he doesn't have the faith she does. She believes they have to be on the same page, spiritual-wise.
Now, they are working together with each of them teaching the other one special equestrian skills. Will they be able to find common ground? Can they work together without becoming involved?
If Avery admits his feelings, will Jennifer reciprocate? Especially if he doesn't find God in his life? Will his grandfather interfere once again in his love life or even in his life?
Avery broke Jennifer's heart once. Being in a small town, it was inevitable that they would run into each other. Her mother needs surgery but that means Jennifer will have to drop of out school. Avery is hostile toward his grandfather. Avery thinks that Jennifer just wants the money. She is too proud to just accept the money needed. They both enter a horse show competition. Who will win?
Great book. Love the mixture of military and cowgirl horsemanship. Also, single parent struggles with children of all ages. Including bills, clothing and college tuition.
Very nice read filled with faith, family and a few giggles along the way...also a fair bit about military historical re-enactments...fascinating stuff. Enjoyed the story, but a few twists I expected didn't happen...could have been bigger I felt.
I love all books published by steeple hill and this is one of the books that made my day brighter:)))To anyone who is interested in an inspiring and romantic book.I recommend this.
Last of the series, Avery has been hurt by money greedy women, Jennifer has been hurt by Avery's indifference. Can Avery and his grandfather make up before it is too late?
