"The Little Prince" is one of my favorite books but this is just bad. I love the characters in the original story because they are simple and thought-provoking. In this adaptation (which is apparently based on a TV show) the characters have become sarcastic and cheesy. The fox is cute and the art is pretty good but the dialogue was awful and the plot didn't really make sense. I am not a big fan of graphic novels but I was excited to see this at the library. I understand that this was made to appeal to kids so maybe it is just not my taste, but I will not be reading the others.

I cannot understand the negative ratings, that say it has nothing to do with the original story. Well, of course. It is based on the episode "the planet of wind" of the series.
I have to say, I watched the episode and found the charaters and their story very interesting, but the plot was a little too simple and quite unrealistic.
Whereas the graphic novel shows a more complex and deeper storyline, the characters are well written and they seem credible.
I even would say, that the graphic novel is the adult version, for those who liked the idea of the episode "planet of wind" but wished a little more action, dramatic and characters that you can sympathise with.
To put it in a nutshell, I adored the story and I even wrote ideas for a potencial fanfiction and a character "relationsship analysis" (I do this whenever I want to read more of a story, but there cleary will nothing come in the future)
Anywayyy, I think the book is worth a read, when you like the animated series and have no problem with sever changes of the original story. See the novel and the series as a great fanfic, because that is it what it is :)

Kinda makes me think of the prince as the Doctor. Hmmmm. Well you're thrown right into the action and adventure with not much of a premise but for a note to Rose (another Doctor similarity) as to how the Prince and the fox are off to save planets from the evil influence of the Snake. Pretty simplistic. The art is cute, but the stories just seem to be lacking.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Como logran encontrar el viento legendario ¡Y CUANDO ZÉPHIR TOCA EL ORGANO! Es que, es hermosa esta escena. ¡¿POR QUE NO LA ANIMARON EH?! ¡ENSERIO, LO QUIERO VER ANIMADO! ¡AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! Voy a llorar. Es una escena EPICA. AMÉ ESA ESCENA Y VER A ZÉPHIR FELIZ ME TIENE TAN CONTENTA. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

The Little Prince: The Planet of Wind
Graphic novel based on animated series and an original story by Delphine Dubos
Adapted by Guillaume Dorison

This novel doesn't seem well suited for an abbreviated adaptation. That or the adaptation was poorly executed. The first 20 pages were a confusing wreck; it seemed as if large chunks of information were missing and the textual phrasing did not flow. I don't write this review having read the original works either, so my critique is on this book as a standalone. The characters were not well developed, so it was difficult to WANT to read further. I understand graphic novels tell a story in imagery as well as words; however, I have yet to read even a short comic book that had such a disjointed storyline as this one. I will give the illustrators credit though, the layout was beautifully executed. That said, I do not recommend children read this on a Kindle, iPad, or other medium-sized digital device because the artwork is detailed and requires close analysis. This series would perhaps appeal to children obsessed with graphic literature (so long as they don't critique quality and simply want to read as much as possible); however, I would not use this as a tool in an attempt to engage children in reading.

MAKING CONNECTIONS

Text-to-Self:
• This story has embedded lessons on morals and how to treat others. Students may be able to relate to the conflict between father and son that is caused by a misunderstanding and lack of communication.
• A less direct, none-the-less present, relation can be built between the snake's shady, persuasive methods and peer pressure felt by students in the upper elementary and middle school age ranges.

Text-to-Text:
• This reads like someone is trying to force moral lessons into a storyline that wasn't built for obvious messages. What do I mean? Elementary books are notorious for direct moral teachings: 'I Like Myself'…gee…I wonder what secret moral lesson that is concealing. Hmmm. The point of those books is to teach moral lessons in a direct yet entertaining way. What The Little Prince book does similarly is inject moral teachings. However, the execution is very different. The moral portions of the story are clumsily injected as if an afterthought. You will be reading about a journey through tornados to find magical winds and all of a sudden one of the characters will randomly inject a lecture on the value of communication with loved ones. WHAT!?!?!?

Text-to-World:
• The characters are from a time and place where Kings and Queens rule and children are Princes and Princesses. This can help students who are intrigued by royalty to connect with the storyline. The King and Prince are trying to protect their Kingdom and the people in it. That provides the real-world structure for this text.
• The tragedy from which they are trying to save their Kingdom is far from reality. The lack of winds causes the land to be covered by ice. To save the Kingdom, they must travel in a flying organ to find magic wind that can save the Kingdom forever. Real…Not Real. Hard to tell…

I went into this skeptical but it was worse than I could have imagined. The art was okay but the story barely held together. The Little Prince character felt like an afterthought and bore little resemblance to his namesake in appearance or spirit. And the whole snake thing was lame.

Although independently this book might have some funny humor, good story, and creative premise, using the Little Prince as an upbeat child detective with a grumpy fox sidekick to save the planet from global climate change is unforgivable.

A great betrayal by the Saint-Exupery estate. :-P

It keeps with the tradition of the original. Simple but beautiful concepts that make you think, gorgeous artwork and adventure. I think it'd be a great read for a younger child. it couldn't create the same kind of magic, though. I think that's a once in a life lighting strike.

I have to admit that I’m a bit offended that someone even tried to make a sequel to or spin-off series of The Little Prince. I think that they did better than I thought they would but I think it still doesn’t fulfill the expectations set up by the original book and its translated twin. The Prince doesn’t look like I thought he would exactly, although I’m not sure what I can say is wrong. I did find his “super powers” to be a bit cheesy- communicating with everything, sketching to bring forth things from imagination, forming objects out of paper, and being quick and agile. The description in the front of the book of these things also completely misses what proves to be his greatest strength- understanding people and good friends. The overall result becomes a bit didactic even if it is a fun fantasy adventure no worse than any other and has decently good art with cool perspectives and nice color palettes. I do think the color looks a bit digital and I’m getting less and less enthused with photoshop art in book illustration- it’s starting to become so common and typically run-of-the-mill rather than anything unique or innovative. It also seems a bit overwhelmingly “white” with no diversity among the rather human-like alien elves. I probably wouldn’t hesitate to toss this one when I’m done while I will keep my copies of Le Petit Prince forever. The “bonus story” by Moebius is filled with slapstick humor was also a bit of a let-down. Somehow I can never get used to the tendency of graphic novels to radically switch styles with guest artists covering the same characters. That said, it has an appropriate flat euro-style similar to what I’ve seen in some of Lewis Trondheim’s work that sort of actually works.

I worship the original 'The Little Prince' book, and checked out 4 of these from the library in a spurt of great enthusiasm, sure that even if I didn't love them their connection to the original story would be enough to keep me interested. I was very wrong. The art in this book is good, but that is literally the only positive thing I have to say about it. I did not even finish it, and in a book of only 56 pages, many of which are just pictures, I think that really says something about the low quality. There is literally nothing redeeming about the plot, the characters, or the tone of the book, and it in fact does not even make sense, either as a stand alone or as a shout out to the original book. Extremely disappointing.

I am not a fan of graphic novels or comic books so I wasn't really expecting to like this. Especially since I don't know that you can do justice to anything not from the original Le Petit Prince but I picked this up on a whim when I saw it in the young readers section of our local library. It felt a little like they were trying too hard to moralize or philosophize with the story. I also usually find that graphic stories depend too much on dialogue to carry a story and it just doesn't work. Maybe the rest of the stories in the series tie together and would make this work but I don't know if I'll try.

Got this one for a dollar at the local discount store. Sent it over to my sister's house so her kids could look at it. Reportedly they did love it, which says absolutely nothing at all about the quality of this text (it looked more than a little hokey to me in the store) though they're into the Frozen movies, etc.

According to the cover, this edition also contains a "bonus story" by Moebius which is pretty neat.

Sigh. This is the Little Prince. I don't want to say anything bad about it...so let's just call this noncanon fanfiction. It's more enjoyable if you think of this in those terms. A little jolted in some places, like a poorly executed stop motion film. It was an ok read.

This is... a completely original story that, for some reason, just HAS to use characters from The Little Prince, I guess for the draw. No one would read it unless the Little Prince was in it? I couldn't say for certain, but what I DO know is I originally only knew of (but still haven't seen) the anime, then when I finally read the original work, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more.

I mean, not DISAPPOINTED, because it's a great book, but by finding out that the anime is pretty much this same sort of thing, taking someone else's characters and making a whole series that otherwise might not have been watched without the character borrowing.

Similarly, The Planet of Wind isn't a terrible story, but there's a letter to the Rose and a page listing the focal characters and some exposition, and that's the only introduction there is before jumping into the story in media res. The story itself *sort of* re-explains this as it goes, but it honestly does feel like there's a proper prologue missing.

Also, there are places where the colouring—as good a job as it is otherwise—just goes a bit haywire keeping the fox's pattern consistent:

slightly bad photo showing the fox's white patch floating inconsistently between the sides of his nose to below the edge of his smile to well under his top lip in each panel

I don't know. Again, it's not a BAD story... it just doesn't feel like a Little Prince story. Granted, the title page says it's based more on the animated series (even though... there are more than one? so which one? I guess this one?) and "an original story" by Delphine Dubos... which feels recursive. Either way, it feels gimmicky and could have been just as good without the Little Prince in it, I think.

(Fox should stay, though! Foxes are always good... except when they're bad, haha!)

There's a bonus short by Mœbius that's... weird. I kind of hate it, mostly because it feels like a story I wrote but never finished. Hmph! I guess I can't fault them (Mœbius and the book's publisher) on beating me to the punch, though, especially since I don't really want to be in the public eye, anyway! Definitely a different tone from the "main" story, though.

The Planet of Wind by Guillaume Dorison and Delphine Dubos offers a delightful and thoughtful return to the universe of The Little Prince. Rather than attempting to retell Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved story, this graphic novel expands the world in a way that feels both respectful and refreshingly new.
The premise is immediately intriguing: stars across the universe are mysteriously going out along the path of the Serpent, and the Little Prince sets off from his asteroid—leaving behind his cherished Rose—to restore balance to troubled worlds. Accompanied by the ever-loyal Fox, he travels from planet to planet, encountering societies shaped by strange rules, conflicts, and moral imbalances. Each new world feels like a parable in motion, echoing the philosophical spirit of the original while exploring new themes suited to modern readers.
What makes this first volume particularly engaging is its sense of wonder. The storytelling captures the curiosity and quiet wisdom that define the Little Prince, while the episodic planetary encounters promise a broader adventure across the galaxy. The narrative strikes a pleasant balance between gentle reflection and cosmic quest, making it accessible to younger readers while still offering depth for adults who grew up with Saint-Exupéry’s classic.
The artwork complements the tone beautifully. The worlds feel imaginative and vibrant, and the visual storytelling helps convey the emotional nuance and whimsy that are so central to the Little Prince’s character.
Overall, The Planet of Wind is a charming and promising opening to the series. It manages the difficult task of expanding a literary icon’s universe while preserving the spirit of curiosity, empathy, and quiet philosophy that made the original story so enduring. A wonderful read for fans of *The Little Prince* and for anyone who enjoys thoughtful, visually rich science-fiction adventures.
Special note for the 3-page Moebius story at the end of the volume, a little gem from one of comics masters.

While I like the idea of the Little Prince using his stardust and drawing powers to explore further worlds, this graphic novel lacks the thoughtful philosophy of the original work that gives it such broad appeal. It's an adventure in an interesting science fiction world, and with any other name I would have enjoyed it very much, but in attempting to turn a beloved work into a franchise, this comic falls short.

Apparently this is based on a TV show which I've never seen. I borrowed this graphic novel because I read the original novel The Little Prince to my kids and I thought they might like this. Unfortunately, it had none of the magic of the original, so I returned it to the library without my kids reading it.
