Veronica Henry was a television script writer before turning her hand to fiction. She has published sixteen novels which she describes as realistic escapism - her setting are gorgeous, but her characters have problems and dilemmas everyone can identify with.
A strange book, partly a collection of related short stories which I enjoyed, and partly a recipe book which didn't really need reading. I wanted more to read. The recipes were too expensive for me to try.
I've read one of the beach hut book series based at Everdene before and several others by Veronica Henry and have enjoyed all so far and this was no exception. I will definitely read more. I believe all are based on different people so can be read in any order as stand alone books.
This was a little different however as is a collection of short stories and recipes. I really enjoyed each of the short stories and the way they were interwoven with a mix of recipes and chat from the author, giving you a little insight into her life, was really interesting.
I would definitely buy this book to read the short stories, but not if I wanted a recipe book, (although some sound delicious) I think pictures of the dishes should be included if this is to be a sales point. and it is a very quick read, but very enjoyable read.
Thanks to Orion Publishing group for the opportunity to read this book.
Thanks to Orion Publishing group for the opportunity to read this book.
A collection of short stories Some fantastic recipes, a fab coleslaw along with Lamb and Chicken already on list of things to make. A feel good summer playlist Summer movies
Loved reading more stories about Everdene. I actually took this book to a beach hut I was renting and some of the recipes would be lovely for a picnic there.
I love Veronica Henry, and read all her books to date. And while this was as lovely as usual from her I found I missed having a “full” story, these short stories had Veronicas usual beautifully descriptive wording and her characters are always lovely to read about, we even met a character from The Beach Hut Next Door novel, Jenna, the ice cream girl so it was lovely to hear how she has got on but I’m not much a a good cook so the recipes wernt for me, I still enjoyed meeting the new characters however and look forward to meeting them again in a novel in the future. Many thanks to Netgalley and Orion for the advance copy for my unbiased reveiw.
Strange book this one... Veronica Henry is one of my top 5 authors ... but this one I'm not sure what to say about it. I enjoyed the short stories.. but feel they were too short and there are too many recipes! The idea of the book is quite good... it just hasn't turned out that great.
This beautiful new book from Veronica Henry is something a bit different and I was captivated right from the introduction. The descriptions of that first glimpse of the sea and visiting an English seaside resort mimicked my own ideals and I immediately felt relaxed, just like I do when I visit the sea in person.
A Day at the Beach Hut is a selection of short stories all focused on different characters that frequent one of the beach huts at the fictional seaside resort of Everdene. They are all very different but contain topics that most of us will identify with. Intertwined through the stories are Veronica's own "Top Tens" of a variety of subjects such as holiday board games, party songs, favourite ice creams and summer reads. I really felt that we got to know the author a little bit more through these and her own experiences before and after the stories.
As if that wasn't enough to tempt you, there are numerous recipes relating to each story: breakfasts, picnics, treats and snacks, birthday cocktails, seafood suppers, family favourites, romantic dinners for two, and finally nightcaps. I will definitely be trying out the ginger scones, seasalt chocolate cookies, white chocolate raspberry pudding and lime pie. I've screen shot them for later.
Highly recommended for summer or a lazy weekend. I devoured this in a day.
Due for release 10 June 2021 on Orion Books. I read an advance copy from Netgalley.
Synopsis:- Step onto the golden sands of the Devon coast with this uplifting collection of stories and over fifty recipes - the perfect way to spend the day at the beach hut, wherever you are. On a shimmering summer’s day,the waves are calling, the picnic basket is packed and change is in the air. It’s just the start of an eventful day for a cast of holidaymakers: over one day, sparks will fly,the tide will bring in old faces and new temptations, a proposal is planned, and an unexpected romance simmers…. Escape into a world of sunshine, salty breezes and heart- warming stories, and enjoy recipes from Veronica Henry’s own kitchen from sunrise to sunset. I bought this book because I absolutely love Veronica Henry’s books, so typically I had to indulge. I was a little disappointed with this one, but only because the stories were so short and I was longing for more, when I’ve read on however I was pleased to be able to find that we meet some old characters from past books and see them as they are now and the stories interlock also. A day at the beach hut made me long for the warm summer days where there’s nothing to do but go and spend the day at the coast, we live 20 minutes away from the coast and very much take that fact for granted. The recipes that are written throughout the book, have my mouth watering at the thought of such delicious offerings, so anyone that enjoys cooking, this is definitely the book for you.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The Costal setting of Everdene is the same location of Veronica Henry's Beach Hut series. This is a standalone book and you don't need to gave read the other books to enjoy this one. This book is made up of short stories which all revolve around the Beach Huts. In between the stories are recipes, some feature in the book, other recipes are ones that you could eat as picnic food, or an easy meal. If you have read the previous books then you will recognise some of the characters as they feature in some of these stories. There are a lot of new and varied characters and they all have different reasons for visiting the Beach Huts. This is a lovely easy Holiday read, heartwarming and uplifting. I love the setting and I really want to have a beach hut just like the ones in the book.I liked addition of the recipes and I will definitely try some of them. I really hope that there are more books that are set in the Beach Huts, they are such excellent stories. Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.

An outstandingly beautiful array of fabtastic mouthwatering recipes and related short stories to wet our whistles, what a fabulous idea to entertwinie the two together. Absolutely ❤ loved this gorgeous book and can highly recommend A DEFINITE 5⭐+ Don't forget! Come back to your Review on the pub date, 10 Jun 2021, to post to these retailers.
Loved these short stories. Loved the recipes. Loved the little chats between chapters. Be aware that this is a short collection, but if like me, you love the Beach Hut series, it is a great little read..
Each chapter is dedicated to a meal: breakfast, picnic food , treats and snacks for example. Each meal has a story based around Everdene Sands Beach huts and a stack of recipes to try at home.. My favourite being Ginger scones, a twist on the traditional.
This was like returning to an old friend or recurring holiday destination and finding some things had changed, but it still felt good.
I am a big fan of Veronica's books so couldn't wait to delve into this one. It is a little different but no less just as good. There are eight short stories all involving the beach, there are also some wonderful beach inspired recipes that made my mouth water just reading them. I am definitely going to be making some very soon. This book is a perfect pick me up that I feel that every beach hut should have. It made me crave being near the sea and eating fish and chips from the wrapper huddled up in a beach hut. I would love to see more books like this as it is a rare treat to read something like this.
This was a wonderful trip back to the Beach huts, revisiting characters over the course of a day. There are decisions to be made, life choices to consider and just general joy being by the coast. Recipes are threaded throughout the book and I must buy a paperback copy for my bookshelves so that I can look through them all again. This is a collection of short catch ups with everyone and can be read as a standalone. It also contains lists of summer essentials to catch up on, movies, song playlists, board games etc
This was a delightful little read, and would be the perfect addition to any beach bag! (Or fireside table, the way our lovely British weather has been thus far in May!) I really enjoyed the way that Veronica Henry interspersed her short stories with recipes and real life anecdotes about her own family, and the way these characters' lives were interwoven at the end. I particularly thought the way she wrote about The Influencer and her Insta life was quite poignant and hope that it impacts others in the way that made me thought about how I portray my life and kids on social media! Made me crave all those sea side treats and long for lazy summer days at the beach, munching on fish and chips and ice cream, heading back to the cabin for sundowners and making smores by the campfire. Thanks to the the author, the publisher and Netgalley for providing a slice of summer sunshine in book form in exchange for an honest review :)
Reading Veronica Henry's stories is always such a pleasant experience. I am currently on holiday - not at the beat, unfortunately - and reading these short stories, intertwined with delicious recipes and reading and listening suggestions is something I was really in need of. In these stories, we reconnect with characters from some of the other stories Veronica has shared before and it's such a great surprise to meet them again! A joy to read, really!
I read this book in one sitting. It was the perfect beach read. It contains a number of interlinking stories set at the beach hut. interspaced with these stories are the perfect beach hut recipes to go with the simplicity of beach life. Turn off your phone, grab yourself a cool drink and enjoy this book.
Thank you Netgalley for the free eBook in return for an honest review.
A Day at the Beach Hut is a lovely collection of short stories centred around the beach huts in Everdene. The stories are well written with some endearing characters that make you feel all warm and cosy inside. Alongside these are a collection of delicious sounding recipes. Thank you to NetGalley, Orion and the author for the chance to review.
A fantastic collection of short stories based around Everdene Sands, which will be familiar to avid readers of Veronica Henry 's books. Interspersed with recipes to try for yourselves and culminating in a finale of a short story to the all the characters in the beach huts together.
As always Veronica Henry sets you adrift on a magical holiday in a beach hut. Love these shorter stories and the insight into the author's experiences and favourite things to do & war & read........however Veronica you do not put carrot in a pasty & definitely don't use sirloin steak!!!
Love all the Beach Hut series and hope for many more to come in the future... My only problem with this book is as I read my books on a kindle, I would rather have the recipes at the end of the book, other than that it's fantastic and I want more xxxx
Loved this! Just wanted the short stories to be longer and maybe less need for recipes but I really enjoyed this! I hope there are going to be more beach hut stories? I’d also like the story of Caroline and Radar to be further developed! So much more material there! Recommended
I liked that this book was very easy to read with short stories that were independent but also intertwined. The recipes were great but I mostly skipped over them .
