When I first came to the Boucher House I thought it would be simple. It was supposed to be easy; follow the rules, and take the meds they give you so you can become better.
But what if they're not trying to cure us?
Everyday I feel like I'm changing more and more from the person I used to be. I'm not quite sure who I've become throughout the torturous treatments and sessions with Dr. Boucher and his staff. But whoever it is, I'm praying she's strong enough to survive this hell.
If they really are out to get you, is it still paranoia? The problem is, everyday I feel as though I’m losing myself more and more. Boucher is stepping up his game and it’s hard to tell the difference between paranoia and the truth.
Is the darkness only within these walls, or is it seeping into my bones?
This is a why choose romance, where the fmc will have more than one love interest without having to choose. This is a dark, forced proximity romance. It touches on sensitive matters and scenes that may trigger some people.
B.C. Morgan lives in England with her amazing fella, their twin devils (also called kids), and their pets. She’s a lover of all things creative from baking to drawing, if it’s creative she’ll give it a go. For someone who claims to not like people, she somehow always manages to surround herself with friends and family.
While B.C. loves bringing life to all the voices in her head, who demands she tells the world their story, she sometimes wishes they were less homicidal. But alas, what’s a poor author to do when death and destruction is being demanded?! To be fair it isn’t really surprising B.C.’s characters are acting like that, considering she has a list with everyone who’s wronged her. It started with the tooth fairy who didn’t pay for her teeth.
BOUCHER HOUSE:is the first full length book in the duet '(Broken Asylum),' by new to me author B.C. Morgan. Spoken in 'Multiple Perspectives.'
This book was batshit CrAzY and I loved every minute of it! Don your straight jackets everyone and get ready to have your head spin. I am so glad I took that leap and one clicked! My mind is all over the place, our heroine stole my heart, I feared for her, connected with her, felt sorry for her, laughed at some of her antics and prayed she’d come out semi unscathed! This book was just amazing!
When Presley was sixteen she was admitted to 'Boucher House' a psychiatric hospital where she was diagnosed with a severe split personality disorder. When she was seventeen her roommate committed suicide, now she sees her everywhere. Now nearly twenty her episodes seem to be progressing. She's spinning out of control and lashing out in anger, and it's only a matter of time before she's thrown into a room that all patients fear.
Presley is such a strong feisty heroine, and I loved all her craziness and sass, then we're introduced to Baxter, god my heart went out for the big dude, two straight jackets and a mask over his face to stop him speaking, the horrors he could tell if only he would be allowed to speak would shut down Boucher House in an instant.
This was such an unexpected, unique, unputdownable raw book, as soon as I started, it was inhaled, I barely came up for air, the author had me from the get go and I'm excited to jump onto the next part of this book. Twists and turns had my emotions hanging by a thread, like a yo-yo my head and heart were at war with each other hating but loving everything this author threw at me.
Holy shnike this book was wilD in such a good way!! And I was so hear for it! Did it make me feel a little insane sometimes? YES! Did I love that about it? Again... YES I did!
B.C. Has such a way with words and how she was able to write some of these characters who constantly flitted between being “normal” and “crazy” was just so freakin amazing!
Presley was sucH a badass slightly untrustworthy FMC and I lovEd that about her! As for all the other characters including the guys I loved them all even the crazies, I’m not gonna give names because no spoilers here 😌, but seriously each character was so unique I lovedd!
Speaking of Unique this whole book was unique! Especially to me, I’ve never read a book that took place in a mental institution, and I’ve never even heard of one that was an Reverse Harem!
I'm always a sucker for asylum reads, crazy characters and mental illness. This book certainly delivered on that and more. I have to say though, the ending really SUCKED. It wasn't exactly a cliffhanger but it just ended in a shitty spot, literally in the middle of a conversation. :|
After being thrown into a modern day asylum by her uncaring parents, the heroine Presley has lived the past few years as a pawn for a total psychopath. Run just like old asylums, patients here will likely never see freedom again and are all thought to be beyond rehabilitation. Then again, those with the power and control have the final say and can treat the patients however they want, because really, who'll ever believe a certified loon. The place is corrupt from the ground up and it's sadly the patients who suffer the most, many not as intensely crazy as they appear. With the use of experimental drugs and insanity the lead Dr. Boucher runs the asylum like a prison turning many sane people insane. Whether it be through association, drugs or constantly being told they are crazy many have lost the will to fight.
Along comes a new Dr. Miller who senses something is wrong right off the bat but can't put the pieces together. He certainly doesn't want to cause waves after starting a new job but he also may not be there with clear intent.
Dr. Boucher's son also comes on the scene, learning the ropes in preparation of taking over one day. After being estranged from his father for a few years the two have their issues but Mael is in for an even ruder awakening when his father goes away on business and the asylum is left in his hands. Working apart and together with Presley and another patient (Baxter), Presley and her future harem must figure things out before it gets too late. Presley's meds are causing more extreme reactions by the day and time is not on their side if they are all to save themselves let alone each other.
On the note of the romance, it's very slow going. I mean Presley is a patient thus beyond limited in what she can and can't do. She may also be tied up and/or locked up quite often which I'm sure you could imagine would put a damper on a girls sex life. So far the harem is clearly established but Presley's yet to slide past second base with any one of them. Because of this I'm assuming the next book will almost certainly be filled with all the steam Presley deserves after years of being locked up and (I'm hoping) a explosive take down of Boucher and the asylum. Fingers crossed xx I'm sad this duet is only two books but my dark side is ready for some sweet revenge.
Hold on to your straightjackets, this is a crazy ride!
Another 5 star, mind-blowing, read! BC Morgan is so beyond talented to be able to hook me right from the prologue! I was so intrigued about where this story might go, and yet, I was not prepared. It was intense and made you feel like you were right there. It deals with mental health issues, so if that is a trigger for you, definitely read the Foreward before you get to invested. It is a slow-burn story, but done so perfectly in character that it works well.
"One of these days I'm going to figure out exactly what your whispers are saying in the dark!"
From the first few paragraphs, it was easy to want to keep going. When her roommate kills herself, Presley starts seeing and hearing her again. So immediately, I was hooked. Throughout the book, the story hints that not everything is okay with Boucher House. It did have multiple POV and I loved that the change of perspective also added an element of seeing from a different role within Boucher House. I could not put it down, and felt so absorbed in the world that the imagery made me feel like I was right there.
Presley was an amazingly snarky, sassy and surprisingly witty character, that although she might be in the asylum, you can't help but love her. She made me laugh, roll my eyes, and cheer her on. The men in the story have me totally confused, and Baxter is definitely my favourite, though he makes me feel a little crazy.
I can't wait to read part two of the duet, I have a feeling it is going to be an even crazier ending!
Hearing a lot about this book, I was looking forward to it. Please be aware going in though, it’s mostly set up for the long story. We meet Presley, a 20ish female residing at Boucher House. Without giving too much away, we learn of the struggles of her past and her present, and learn more about the evil ways going on in the asylum.
This book has very little heat, as it focuses mostly on the darkness surrounding Presley. Knowing this author, she can write some steamy scenes, so I look forward to the next book, and hopefully we’ll see the small flames of attraction fanned into something stronger.
Story 📖: 4/5 Heat 🔥: 1/5 (super slow burn!) Darkness: 5/5 triggers: graphic violence, abuse of those under care, hints of sexual assault, suicidal references, forced drug use, forced proximity.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
BC has always been able to write a good story. She has such a way with words, but this one took me by surprise. I was not expecting. I knew from the description it was going to be a different read than what I was used to, but good.
Presley is such a good female lead, she is a little badass that has you rooting for her from the start. I liked the introduction to all the characters. I cannot wait to learn more about them.
So this being book one you get more of an introduction and a set up for book two which is coming August 5th.
If you are a fan of BC you are definitely going to want to grab this one. I could not put my kindle down.
Wow! This author sure knows how to spin a tale and make you wonder, but when in reality you have no idea what's going on. You keep on guessing, but you're always miles away from the truth.
Boucher House contains almost zero romance, it's there, but barely. It's quite unnecessary at this point and all it would do is ruin the freakiness. Broken Asylum Duet is a Reverse Harem and I'm looking forward to discovering the depths of it in the next book.
Presley is our main heroine, currently a patient in the mental facility called Boucher House, run by Boucher himself. She's tough, a bit crazy and very perceptive. She knows the difference between right and wrong, she just can't help herself when there's always some substance floating in her veins. It's the same with others. She's also the one that has a special bond with a patient Baxter, who's such a threat to others that he has to wear two jackets and a face mask, and somehow that makes her stand out.
The more I read the more I saw her having unfinished business with dr. Boucher. He holds the power, but she's the one who's a treat when given a single tiny pencil in her hands.
When Maël (Boucher's son) and his friend Kai (doctor) arrive to the facility as newly staff members, they become warry. Something just isn't right. And it's Presley that falls on their radar, as a victim.
Well this was different!! Straight away this book captured my attention, it had a really dark plot full of mystery and suspense! The story takes place in a mental institution which in itself is unlike any other romance that i have previously read. The characters are very intense, however you cant help but like them and feel for them in their situation. You will be left asking lots of questions and you will feel lots of different emotions, some scenes are upsetting so be warned. For me i just loved Presley's fighting spirit. i have a funny feeling things are only going to get worse for her I am just so excited to see what is going to happen next
If you want to read a twisted dark RH Romance then you need to start this book! I loved it
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
OK BC! This was a great read! I really enjoyed sitting down and diving into the world of Presley, Mael, Miller, and Baxter. I LOVED Baxter. A little mysterious, doesn't really talk unless he needs to. UGH, totally my type of character! I studied the criminally insane during college, so I actually really enjoyed BC speaking about the different types of mental illnesses, and when Presley had her psychotic moments, LOVED IT! If I could have transported myself to the Boucher House and been an observer, I would've taken that opportunity in a second. BC nailed this book, and I got all the feels from it! Bravo BC! The story was written very well with good details and really exuded the emotions I think she was trying to create. Five stars! <3 A.R. Breck
"We all have days where we want to give in and surrender, but those are the days where we have to fight harder. To claw our way back. On those days where you don’t feel strong enough, then I’ll be there to help bring you back to yourself, to lend you my strength." This hit me pretty hard. This has to my favorite quote!
This is book 1 of the Broken Asylum duet. This was such an intense and wild ride. Normally, I get a bit bored with slow burns, but this was just so much more. This was an incredibly heartbreaking story about a woman trying to survive in a mental institution. This was incredibly well written and
The characters:
This is my first story by BC Morgan. I truly enjoyed the writing style and incredible storytelling. I hope to read more from this author.

OH. MY. GOD. TW- Mental health, abuse. That sums up my reaction to this book pretty accurately. I finished it one go and in every chapter, my heart was racing and my mind spinning. I'm not exaggerating, I swear. I'm feeling so much, IDK how to put it all into words but let's try all the same.
This book is set up in Boucher House, an asylum where Presley & Baxter-two of our MCs, are patients and Dr. Miller & Mael are doctors(our other two MCs). Now let's talk about Pres- honestly my favorite out of all 4. She's been through so much but refuses to give up. It has taken a toll on her and you can feel it in all her POV chapters. I can't wait till my baby is freed and gets her revenge. By God, I want blood. NOTHING LESS WILL DO. Now, Baxter, my second favorite character. He's wounded but is so protective of Pres. Their friendship is so precious. Pres is his anchor and he will do anything to keep her safe. Now, Kai, I thought he's a very interesting character and there's so much mystery surrounding him. He's patient, he's genuine, and actually sees what's happening inside the horror house. Mael, mixed feelings honestly. He's trying his best but his denial gets on my nerves. Just when he's caught onto everything, BAM(won't spoil).
This book sets up the foundation and tone for book 2 which is the final book. Don't expect them to get down to steam, there's none. It's a slow burn and I loved it. The pacing, the narration, and transitions between the multiple POV chapters are handled extremely well. You will be on the edge, guessing but the ending was far from what my mind was coming up with initially. IT IS SO WORSE, I NEED BOUCHER DEAD. Morgan plays her cards well, only revealing one mystery at a time and keeping us salivating.
Who are the crazy ones in this book? The patients or the staff? The lines are definitely blurred. Sadistic, abusive nurses and doctors are rife at Boucher House. A asylum which is misleading in its focus on rehabilitation when things going on there are a lot darker and sinister.
Presley (FMC) has the misfortune of being an inmate at Boucher House and she was an absolute riot. Yes she has a few issues. As well as a few problems with being stab happy with pens....etc and liking a punch up a little too much but shes actually fun, funny and caring. A real likable character though or at least i thought so. Baxter a fellow inmate had this whole Hannibal Lecter vibe going on with the straight jackets. Even though he was actually sweet under all that and im hoping to find out more about him in the future. Whereas im still unsure about Kai & Mael?? Im waiting to see how things play out with them. Yes this is an RH book but there was no sexy times on it yet but i kinda liked that as the emphasis was more on the characters and the story line. I loved this first book. It was a brilliant read. Bring on book two now
Boucher House: Part One by BC Morgan is a dark asylum romance. This is the first book in the Broken Asylum Duet.
The book does come with a caution: "This is a why choose romance, where the fmc will have more than one love interest without having to choose. This is a dark, forced proximity romance. It touches on sensitive matters and scenes that may trigger some people."
This is the first book of BC's that I have read and it definitely won't be my last. I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved that we got Presley, Mael, Baxter, and Kai's points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
I cant wait for Boucher House: Part Two to be released on August 5, 2021.
I would highly recommend this book if you love dark romances, asylum romances, forced proximity romances, or psychological thrillers. This is one of my top 2021 reads!
Color me intrigued! I was a little unsure about starting Boucher House before reading it, but WOW I’m so glad I did. This book is insane and not just because it’s set at an asylum.
Presley was dropped off at Boucher House at 17 by her parents for several mental health conditions. Instead of getting better, it seems like everyone is getting worse, Presley included. There’s something sinister at work in the asylum and for Presley it’s becoming harder to separate reality from paranoia.
I really liked Presley and I found myself rooting for her. She’s very perceptive and I liked her snarkiness. I also really liked Baxter, and the relationship between the two of them.
There are still a lot of secrets in Boucher House and there are so many twists and turns you don’t know who’s friend or foe. There’s a cliffhanger at the end and I can’t wait to get my hands on book 2. I need to know what happens!!
This one is designed to make you a little crazy I believe! Presley has been at Boucher House for a while now, and things have been going from bad to worse. There are a few people that care, but it’s hard for her to find some small pinpricks of light in the darkness. Lately it looks like that darkness is going to win. Dr Boucher has been treating patients in questionable ways. When the treatment doesn’t match the diagnosis and patients seem to be getting worse, will anyone step in to protect them and put a halt to the madness? There’s only one way to find out, but it’s going to require trust in a place few have ever encountered it...
Since I started this book I've been having some strange dreams! This Asylum is so detailed that you feel like you're going crazy yourself! Boucher House is an Asylum with heavy secrets. Are the patients even supposed to be there? Where do they disappear to? And what are they giving them that only seems to be making them worse? This story is a psychological mystery with the FMC having more than one love interest. It ends on a cliffhanger with even heavier questions.
This book was super interesting. Think American Horror Story Asylum vibes + mystery + focus on mental health. 0 steam but does have relationships building. Centers more on plot and figuring out what’s going on. Excited for book 2! Check trigger warnings before reading (mentions past abuse, mental health triggers, etc).
Let's start off with this. PAY ATTENTION TO THE WARNINGS!!!! This is directly from the beginning of the book: The book may contain triggers for mental health and abuse due to the nature of the story. Heed that warning. If you don't think this is for you then you need to step away. There are many aspects of mental health discussed in this book.
Now that we have that out of the way, Holy F'ing Hell. What a freaking book! I finished it late last night and I woke up this morning thinking about this book. I want to talk about ALL the things but at the same time, I don't want to tell you anything. I want you to go in blind like I did so you can experience it all just like I did. So in saying that, I'm going to give you what I can without giving you too much.
Presley is our FMC. She's been locked up in Boucher house, an asylum, for 4 years now. Suffering from some anxiety and depression, she never imagined that she would still be locked up four years later. She definitely didn't think she would be getting worse as the days pass. Unfortunately for her, that is what seems to be happening. She knew when she got there that she wasn't crazy, but as we go along, she's not so sure anymore. She's managed to keep to herself for the most part, except for one person she can't seem to stay away from. Baxter. He's been there longer than her and you will find out why she is so drawn to him. Their main goal, making it through each day without Boucher breaking them beyond repair.
This book is told in multiple POV. So obviously we have Presley and Baxter. Then we have Dr. Kai Miller, the new psychologist, and Maël. I'm not going to tell you much about them b/c you just need to read and find out. Make your own opinions. Now when we get to the end of the book, we don't have any real romantic relationships. There are some definite hints, some attraction that we feel. But there isn't any bow chicka wow wow going on. Which is absolutely fine with me b/c it wouldn't have really made sense to write that into this first part of the book. This first part is all about the secrets that are being kept inside of Boucher House. And man, my mind was reeling with some of the twists. You sure don't know who you can trust and who you can't. What to believe and what not to believe. Which is why I loved this book so freaking much.
Now yes, we do have a bit of a cliffy at the end. You should have already expected that with it being a duet. I have absolutely no idea when the second book is supposed to come out but I can tell you that I will be stalking the author until I do know. I have all the feels for the peeps in this book and I need to know ALL THE THINGS!!! It's driving me a bit crazy. Hahaha.
This was just the type of RH asylum book that I've been needing! As opposed to some of the other ones that I've read (not that I didn't love those as well!), this book focuses on people that might not be as psycho as they are meant to be perceived. Instead of having the main characters killing off people left and right because they are mentally unstable and enjoy causing pain or chaos, this book focuses on how they are handling everything they have been forced to endure while at this house even if they didn't need or deserve the treatment. Some instances may be triggering to some, so keep that in mind.
The multiple POV really enhanced this book. I loved seeing the different perspectives from not only the 2 main character patients but also two not directly involved in the torment of the people in the care of Boucher House. We get a glimpse of the outside and the inside of the asylum with all four of these characters and can truly see the ins and outs of the things that Boucher has been putting all of his patients through--at least to an extent.
There's mystery and intrigue in this story for sure and I'm dying to find out more. What we've already found out in the first book of this duet is crazy enough. This book will definitely keep you on your toes with the desire to find out what exactly has been going on at Boucher House, the sexual tension between the characters (hello, slow burn!), and the obvious villain(s). Unlike with so many books, it's easy to discern who is good and who is bad. I know there might be a twist thrown in there soon, but at this point, I think I'll be less surprised by it.
I can easily say that I was not expecting to like this one as much as I did! I've never read an asylum book before, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect but BC was able to reel me in and never let me off the hook with this one! It is most definitely an intense storyline and the triggers and author note at the beginning are not to be taken lightly with some of the topics explored throughout Boucher House.
With that said, I feel that a lot of the mental health issues addressed were beautifully done and very well written. Although a majority of the book is from Presley's POV, we do also get POVs from the main guys were are getting to know and expect to be her love interests. The multiple POVs gave insight into the different roles throughout Boucher House as we get some from patients, a psychiatrist, and a doctor - who is soon to take over. Presley is such a tough, snarky, sassy, and witty character that its easy to see why the men are all captivated by her and want to help her. Although she's changed from who she was when she first arrived at the asylum, she's very perceptive and can tell that something's just not quite right with Dr. Boucher. Things are more dark and sinister than anyone can guess.
Baxter is most definitely my favorite so far, and I'm interested to see how Mael and Kai register on her radar because it's almost funny how much she's annoyed by them at this point. There's almost no romance at this point making it a slow-burn story, but the way that the characters' relationships are built up in this one makes sense for the setting and storyline. There is so much mystery and intrigue I can't wait to see what's sure to be an epic conclusion in the second part of this duet. After finding out some shocking secrets relating to Boucher House and that cliffhanger ending, I can't wait to find out more in book two.
I enjoyed this book way more than I thought I would and at this rate I’ll have my top ten books of 2021 already picked before July hits. Morgan is a new author for me and I need to check out her other books. I’ve read one other asylum book before this one and I’m hoping this becomes a new trope/ theme because I need more and it gave me some AHS: Asylum vibes. This book was filled with dark themes, metal health, and outdated treatments. I found a lot of myself in Presley and I was all for her and felt with her through her journey so far in her life and Boucher House. Baxter is my favorite of who I’m pretty sure her guys will be. I really loved his and Presley’s relationship. Kai and Maël both have their own demons within them, but they’re trying to see Boucher House through the patient’s eyes and not from their position within it. The multiple POV definitely helped me get a better insight to each character, but Presley’s were my favorite to read about. I think Morgan handled and portrayed each characters mental health state accurately and didn’t make them out to be something else or just gloss over them. I wasn’t expecting a slow burn, but I won’t be too disappointed if the second part is still little to no steam because I’m just too invested in this story. I can’t wait to see how this duet ends, especially after some of the revelations of Boucher House, and I need more of Presley and Baxter.
This book wasn’t definitely mind blowing. BC Morgan really captures your attention with being able to keep your curiosity. Bouchers House is full of mystery. Just when you think you have it figured out, something new happens.
There was also some sparks flowing between the characters. I love the intensity and connections that are formed. I enjoyed getting multiple people POV during this book. It really helped with the dynamics and to learn more from what might be going on.
This was definitely and interesting and exciting book to read. I do recommend it. I also can’t wait for more from these characters and to uncover more of the mystery that is in Boucher House.
So it wasn’t as crazy over the top as I thought it was going to be. But wait, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t good.
I’ve read other BC Morgan books so I know what her mind is capable of. Considering this is book 1 in a duet, it’s definitely an intro and backstory for what I can only imagine to come next.
An asylum full of mystery and intrigue. Characters that we have yet to discover whether they are reliable or not. And all this is what’s going to have me coming back for more.
I’ve seen it described as RH but if you are looking for steam, it’s not in book 1, perhaps things will change in book 2. Regardless, the story and characters are well worth the read.
This book caught me and I loved the built up. This is a slow burn reverse harem and the characters are well developed as BC Morgan takes her time. I also enjoyed that you don’t see many with this theme. So Presley is in an institute but discovers that instead of getting out people take a turn for the worse. It's full of mystery and suspense and a new story for me all together. I love the multiple POV we get from the guys too. Awesome story altogether!
This book was really good. There are some triggers so I would just be aware that there is mental and physical abuse and there is some hinting at sexual abuse but no details. That being said if that isn't a problem, this is a must read. The characters are really dynamic and even the side characters are nice to hear about. The plot is interesting and has just enough mystery that you won't want to put the book down. The cliffhanger that this book ends with definitely leaves me impatiently waiting for book two.
5 creepy, mysterious, hauntingly beautiful stars for Boucher House!
Presley is a patient at an asylum, and together with a couple of unexpected allies, works to uncover the reason why instead of getting better, patients seem to be getting worse the longer they stay. This book was super intriguing and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. This is a very slow burn and we don’t get much romance in this book. Book 1 seems to be more dedicated to establishing and building the relationships, so hopefully we’ll get some romance and steam in the second book.
I really liked Presley and found myself rooting for her throughout the book. I loved her friendship with Baxter and hope to see that develop in book 2. Really unique, engaging story and memorable characters, can’t wait for book 2!
Boucher House is an insane asylum and this one is something of nightmares. Dr, Boucher runs the house, and is questionable if the patients are even crazy or is he making them crazy? This is a dark Reverse Harlem novel and it is just the beginning with part one. There is so much more to come I just know it. I loved this book and felt for the character and want to help them so badly. They are in this house of horrors and there is no way out unless you die. I was hooked from the beginning. I love BC Morgan books and this one doesn't disappoint. I don't want to give much away but man this one is just amazing written and I love it. I need more..
Please note these Triggers: violence, mental health, Abuse of the mental health patients
Oh. My. Goodness. This has touched on one of my deepest fears with suffering from anxiety and depression and the evilness that exists in this world. It is so well written that I was screaming. Boucher House is fifty shades of effed up! And I’m here for every second of it!!
This is one book that’s so unique and different but holds a heck of a lot of spice and thrill. Iv never read a story like this b4 and it was truly a edge of the seat moment all the way through and I can not wait to find out what’s next. Bc Morgan should become a baseball player because she just hit this out the park.
