When Nyxia White transforms, she realizes she possesses a fearsome weapon and power of the Darkin.
There’s only one problem, she doesn’t know how to use them…yet.
Gryn, an old sorcerer, has just the solution—intense training bordering on torture.
Now, with little time, Nyx must survive Gryn’s training, harness her new power and hunt down whoever kidnapped Acheron, before they rend him to ash—a demon extermination.
In order to save her friend, she must become the monster other monsters fear.
Orlando Sanchez has been writing ever since his teens when he was immersed in creating scenarios for playing Dungeon and Dragons with his friends every weekend. An avid reader, his influences are too numerous to list here. Some of the most prominent are: J.R.R. Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Kat Richardson, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Lee Child, George Lucas, Andrew Vachss, and Barry Eisler to name a few in no particular order. The worlds of his books are urban settings with a twist of the paranormal lurking just behind the scenes and generous doses of magic, martial arts, and mayhem. Aside from writing, he holds a 2nd and 3rd Dan in two distinct styles of Karate. If not training, he is studying some aspect of the martial arts or martial arts philosophy. He currently resides in Queens, NY with his family and can often be found in the local Starbucks where most of his writing is done. Absolutely captivating characters and story. I've devoured this chapter of Nyx and Acheron adventures and I'm eagerly awaiting the next book. Sanchez is an amazing storyteller.
Can a Demon Lord be someone’s friend? Will Nyxia find her way? Is there anyone she can trust? This story is another step on the way to finding these answers while watching her grow. And some great fight scenes! The kind where you want to cheer when the bad guys ‘get it’. I can’t wait for the next book!
This is the second book (more of a novella) of the Nyxia White trilogy. Here, Nyx is doing her best to survive training by Gryn, a gruff and deadly serious sorcerer who was hired to teach Nyx to control her Darkin weapon and basically just to survive. Training is intense, painful and relentless. What really stands out for me in this story is the reason that Nyx does her best to absorb the wisdom and pain filled lessons from Gryn. Loyalty. Yes, her loyalty to her friend, Acheron shines through every decision she makes. Loyalty in spite of the derision she faces at insisting that the Demon Lord is her friend. Acheron has been taken by a mysterious group and Nyx refuses to abandon him. If you like fast-paced, tense fantasy with wonderful dialog, strong themes of friendship, dogged determination, and just an all-around good story, this book is for you! Please note, if you happen upon this book without reading the first one in the series, I recommend that you go back and read They Bite first, to get the back story on the situation in this book. It’s also on Kindle Unlimited.
I love the exploration of the concept of Evil herein.
During the edits I commented to Orlando that Nyxia's story reminds me strongly of the Time Master series by S. Cooper (which still remains one of the most notable tales that explores the idea of something being good or evil). Fundamentally, it is that exploration that makes Nyxia and Acheron’s story so fascinating. This story is darker than we used to from Orlando and its great to see the expansion of skill as he renders this much darker tale. Normally we'd expect ourselves to be cheering on the sorcerers and mages as they battle demons but in Nyxia's world the sorcerers are not the heroes, and their organisations are definitely not free from "intent". The intent looks into the Abyss and here, the Abyss looked back and grabbed hold with both hands. More please. Just be prepared to have to look a little closer at the meanings behind the actions.
This is the second book in the Nyxia White series, it also the conclusion to the cliffhanger in the first book, They Bite. In this one, Nyx gets some training from Gryn, a very powerful sorcerer, who learned his trade from Circes. This gives meaning to the saying, you would have never made it under my teacher. After a speed course in training/pain, Nyx goes after her demon friend Acheron, who has been captured. But who was he captured by, and why?
With some help from Gryn, Nyx goes to save Acheron, with a sunrise time limit or die situation. And a surprise ending.
Really great book, can’t wait for more from this series.
WOW!! Book 2 in a new series by a very creative and imaginative author. The title alone grabbed me and held on tight to the end of the book and I am waiting for the next already. It is SOOO GOOD!!! AWESOME actually. Nyxia is busy with her training so she can go find and rescue her "friend"? the Demon Lord, Acheron. Her training is a bit rough maybe deadly, you have to read it yourself to find out. OOOOOOH !! and WHO IS THE BAD GUY?? IS there a bad guy?? I was wondering that throughout my FIRST read through. FOUND OUT !! I was VERY happy with the outcome, so far. Luckily, this author gets his books out to his readers QUICKLY. We are a ravenous pack of Sanchez fans.
Best news I have had all year— this is going to be a series! I’m so excited.
If you like Monty and Strong, then you will love this. If you like urban fantasy with a strong female lead and a strong male lead, then you will love this. If you like snark, then you will love this! If you like your heroes a little on the wrong side of the street, then you will like this. But, where is the correct side of the street?
This is a book about best friends. They happen to be male and female. It’s possible!
Demons. Magic. Betrayal. Loyalty. Humor. Blood. Fights. Dogs from hell. It’s all there and so much more!
"Adjust, Adapt or Die" Now that Nyxia is Darkin and has the Chakram, she will need to learn to use both to rescue Acheron. Training with Gryn will come with plenty of pain but also gifts and knowledge that will be useful while trying to help Acheron. You get plenty of demons, monsters, and fighting to keep you on your toes with this short story. I can't wait to see what happens next, I pity those who want to hurt or cross Nyxia and her friend.
Well that was fun, this time we learn more about Nyx and the artifact she paired with. If it's not for Gryn, Nyx wouldn't have a chance to rescue Archron. This is definitely a darker world and the Seven are in to power & power corrupts. Gryn reminds me of a dark TK (they share the same teacher I think) but with a definite sense of humor, I wouldn't be surprised to find out Gryn is putting some plan in motion.
Orlando Sanchez is already a major force in the Urban Fantasy world, and his new series does not disappoint. This is the second book in the series, and follows magical hybrid Nyx and the demon Acheron who is bonded to her, as well as her partner and friend. There's nefarious magic on the loose, a governing body that gets in the way, and of course, the witty dialog and easter eggs that Orlando does best!
Nyxia White puts it all on the line to save her friend, demon Acheron , who has been captured and is going to be rend come morning. Shes been thoroughly trained in how to use her new abilities to save him but she's going in alone. Can she save him? Why was he captured? Is it a trap? Great sequel!
This, the second book in this series, starts the build-up to what promises to be a thrilling climax where friendship, trust and possibilities are all put to the test. Nyxia White is definitely a great addition to the Sanchez portfolio and, if you prefer shorter stories, this series is a great place to start.
Nyx is back, and she may need a training montage to survive Gryn. Acheron is held captive by an unknown party and she's the only one who would attempt to rescue the demon lord. Can she level-up to face their mysterious foe, or will the villainous win and rend their bond forever? Wonderfully dark, explosive, and fun.
I'll admit I've pestered Mr Sanchez to hurry up with his writing of this book on the MOB page on Facebook but now it's done & read I want more 😆😁 yes there's no pleasing me.. well other than creative cursing I love how relatable his characters are & how he manages to make me cackle at least once a book
This book explores who it what Nyxia is she and what path she sill be taking. Her summoned demon has been taken to get to Nyx and there the fun begins. This series is such fun as it explores what is good and evil. Most if the time there is not a defining line! Enjoy. Thank you Orlando
Orlando has the ability to write characters that draw you in and allow you to really connect to them even if one of them is a demon. They Rend is another great example of this ability. The only down side to this story was that it was over too quickly. Looking forward to the next installment.
This is the second book in the series. I thought the first book was amazing but They Rend just blows the first one out of the water! When Nyx allows herself to allow full powers (have to read the book to find out how, lol), things take off! MUST READ!!
Nyx has a lot to learn about what she has become, and how to use the power she has attained. This is a story about the ties that bind, or the power that rends.
Loving NYX & Acheron ... I'm expecting much more damage & depredations along the way , thoroughly looking forward to many more Nyx & Acheron books , hopefully , maybe , please ??
Nyxia and this dark series is fast becoming a favorite! The storyline is engrossing and nyxia and Acheron are a dynamic duo. Throw in some sorcerers, demons, and a shady organization and its a recipe for pure reader bliss.
I really enjoy this pairing! There's so much left to be explored, so many avenues it could go, and many layers of opposition yet to overcome. I hope for more than one more installment, honestly.
Another awesome story. Good characters - believable. Realistic dialogue. Always .it's you want to know about the characters draws you into the story. Like all of this author's book.
A second book that I'd been waiting for. An awesome read! I can't wait for the next book, and I'm excited at the possibility of the trilogy growing into a larger series. The characters and world warrant one. As always, I'm looking forward to the next book.
Short, succinct and an interesting, dark tale of demons and magic and power grabs. This is not the M&S action and humor. Nyx as an anti hero protagonist has some snark and the magic, the training and the characters make for a riveting story.
While this world is darker it is still very life affirming - and I loved the surprises with demon dogs (no Peaches but still cool) and the changing of possibilities- really cool exploration and surprises -
This was a good short story. I wish the characters were a little bit fuller but I enjoyed the ones introduced. I am planning on finishing the trilogy but still prefer the M&S cast better. Maybe it’s Peaches?
Ok, this was fantastic! I have always loved the way Mr Sanchez creates characters, but this? This is beyond my wildest expectations! Rock on with your bad self…Can’t wait to get on the next ride!
I love Nuys and Archeron! I hope our great author keeps this story going for many more books!! I love Monty and Simon, but this is a whole other level of melee and destruction.
Phenomenal writing and imagination combined into another great read. Let the adventure continue on! Action friendship and betrayal all in one place. Keep writing! Please..
