Even though Fumi has the ability to kill the snake that’s sealed within Kyutaro, she can’t do so without killing Kyutaro in the process! Kyutaro strikes a deal with the snake, but can he make good on his promise if it means facing a prospective leader of the Seiryu Clan who has a snake inside him as well?
Kyousuke Motomi (最富キョウスケ Motomi Kyōsuke) is a Japanese mangaka whose stories have frequently been published in the monthly Betsucomi magazine. She is most currently working on Dengeki Daisy.
She uses a male pseudonym and draws herself as a man, but she's actually female."If my stories can touch you, make you laugh, forget unhappy things, or even give you that 'good job' feeling, then I'll be super, super happy!" - Kyousuke Motomi
I'm just going to proudly point at this series and say that if you need a shoujo manga with PLENTY of action (I would even say more than Yona of the Dawn at certain points), then this is your series! I'm still shocked at how underrated this manga is and trying to figure out why because while it has romance, action, and high stakes with a focus on mental health that I'm like this SHOULD be more popular!
Side rant aside, this volume was excellent! I didn't care for the bath scene with the nude fighting personally, but it seems things are reversed now with Kyutaro and Fumi's positions and I don't know what to make of it. I admire how strong both of them cling to hope when they feel afraid and don't know what the future looks like ahead of them. They are so incredible and just want the happiest of things for them!
I am thankful I'm not the only one because you can always feel the deep love the Genbu Clan has for them and also want the same thing. I deeply love how they always proudly stand behind them as well as guide and encourage them. Going back to what I said before, they really show the beauty and importance of community and how it can shape individuals for the better.
I'm not sure if this is a popular opinion or not, but I liked Snake! I won't go into details about it (because #spoilers), but he's an interesting character even if I'm like you are unhinging everything and I don't really like it, but you have a cool character design and I like you. LOL! Granted, I did NOT like his actions before this volume, but it's been a fun time(?) getting to know him individually even if he also drops bombshells of information. *nervous laughter*
I am shocked that I actually liked Ranmaru in this volume! I feel he has redeemed himself and am thankful he is treating our leads so well. He seems to be a very sincere man and obviously loves his clan very much.
With how this volume ended, I am very much looking forward to the next volume!
Another action-packed volume! I was indifferent to Kyutaro's snake when he first showed up, but he grew on me this volume. Kyousuke Motomi just has a knack for writing endearing characters.
This volume is less romance-y than the previous one, and has more action. Kyutaro and Fumi have a talk with the snake that lives inside Kyutaro, and end up making a deal with it: they'll take the snake to see the Seiryu Clan's snake, and Kyutaro gets to keep control of his body. Unfortunately, they learn the Seiryu snake is more powerful; what will they do now? We get to learn more about the snakes, which sets up all kinds of interesting things for the future. Our lovebirds are settling into a deeper relationship, learning to trust each other and respect each other's abilities. Fumi is getting more comfortable with her power, and we learn a secret about one of the Seiryu Clan's members. And the art in this volume! So lovely, with lots of otherworldly scenes. Looking forward to volume 12!
Another solid volume. I took a break from this series before this one came out in 2021, and I was pleased to jump back in with almost no questions. The way their conversations unfold with the snake perfectly reminded me of where we are in the story and gave enough memory shots to jar anything I'd forgotten loose. I like this series when the tone is more serious, but there are some cute lighter moments here and there, and these two are honestly just too darn adorable together in spite of their circumstances.
I really enjoy this series. Fumi is kind of awesome. And Kyutaro is really funny. There are definitely dark and heart breaking elements, but there are also heart warming and inspiring ones too. There's some serious foreshadowing going on right now, and it's making me nervous. I'm especially nervous about how the volume ended, and hope things don't get as bad as it looks. I can't wait for the next volume.
Good volume but the characters from other families are confusing. I wish the author had a list of the characters that are in each individual volume. There are characters I cannot tell apart. Motomi’s comments at the beginning of each chapter are my favorite part of her books. She has a wonderful sense of humor!
I truly can't get enough of Fumi and Q in this series. They have an amazing dynamic that I love to read, and their communication is great as well. I will forever be on their side of this fight, and I can't wait to see what happens in the future.
Another action filled volume, with more information about snakes and a decision that could go very wrong... This whole series has a unique premise, and good execution.
