Charlie Sanders, a happily married empty-nester has it all; sciatica, myopia, and a dead body on her LaZBoy.
Charlie, a geriatric nurse, uses her patients’ help and investigates the suspicious death of her tenant, But then she uncovers an adoption scandal that turns her town against her and makes her the killer’s next target.
I cannot tell if this is part of a series as I feel like there is a little background I may be missing. But as the book progresses and readers become familiar with the characters, by the end, you become invested as you follow along with nurse Charlie Sanders as she tries to identify who may have murdered Oscar with wit and humor.

I wasn't prepared for the great flow of this story. I only stopped long enough to sleep, go to lunch with my BFF, and do shopping we had planned. I almost backed out just so I could get to eBook again! I suspect my BFF would not be happy so I did the shopping as fast as I could reasonably get done without leaving her in the dust! I must continue with this series - it is THAT good!
This book was a page turner and I will be recommending this book to all my friends. Charlie finds her sons friend Oscar dead at her cabin, she thinks he was murdered and the police said accidental. Charlie goes out of her way to find out what happened and she stumbles across so much more. I hope there is more because I love Charlie, her husband and Ray.

Tobi Doyle is masterful at writing a really good murder mystery with wit and humor. I loved this book as well as her other mysteries Still Waters and Vicious Justice. All excellent!
Charlie Sanders, a geriatric nurse at Sunnyview Villages Retirement Community, finds her tenant, Oscar, dead in the living room recliner at the family’s cabin. The death is listed as an accidental overdose of insulin, but he used an insulin pump and there was no insulin in the refrigerator or medicine cabinet.
Charlie asks for help from Oscar’s neighbor, Ray McGuffin, a retired Air Force detective to figure out what may have happened that night. They find some interesting information and uncover a scandal that takes them to Oscar’s killer. But if they can’t quickly find proof against the killer, Charlie will be the next one found dead! Will they find the evidence they need? Or will the killer come after Charlie?
I love Charlie. Doyle has crafted a wonderfully believable empty nester who leaves no stone unturned to get justice. Her relationship with Joe and her sparring with Ray made for a really fun trio, with always the hovering question, Is this going to work out? Will small town gossip or jealousy cause a bunch of problems? I also loved the scenes at Sunnyview assisted living and the hilarious cast of characters. Doyle does a great job of keeping tension throughout the story. I kept waiting for one particular character to turn out to be the criminal, but I was also hoping not. The red herrings are all great lures in a variety of directions. This is a really cool brand of cozy mystery that I kept looking forward to reading every night.

This book is hilarious. Charlie really gets into some strange situations and the result is hilarious. I laughed until I snorted. The plot was well thought out and very tricky. These books are a great read. I definitely recommend this book.

There was a lot going on in this book. Human trafficking involving babies and children, drug schemes, and of course, murder. There was quite a bit of action and intrigue. I really loved Charlie's relationship with her husband, Joe, and her friendship with Ray. I also enjoyed learning of a very minor character named Carole. Her name is spelled just like mine. 😀
Twisty turns to keep you guessing throughout the book. Charlie is fierce and funny - "Unsaid snark tasted bitter and unsatisfying" is my favorite line. Looking forward to seeing what else Charlie and Ray get into...next book, please!
Nice to have a down to earth motherly nurse solving crime. Everyone will want her husband. I was sorry we lost the young man she took in, I wish he had a happier life. There is a plot twist in the middle of the story and the pace and action picks up considerably. Enjoyable cozy mystery. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
