Skin Deep
David Reel, Washington, D.C. plastic surgeon and researcher, is about to make medical history. I must be reading a different book than the one described on this page and thus I must dissent from the high ratings. The thin plot of this novel, the cardboard characters, the random senseless deaths (i.e. Charlie's), and the trite explanations of the motives of the characters make this attempt at a medical thriller fall short of the mark.
In addition, the book was hard to read because of the many flaws in writing. The book I read was not an advance copy. The sentence structure ("She gasp in horror at the images." - p. 123) and word use (blood "gouting"?? out of his amputated limbs, p. 175), the misuse of the comma ("taking away someone, I love." - p. 165), the errors in spelling (p. 158 psysciarist) and the disjointed structure have contributed to my recommendation: do not waste your time reading Skin Deep.
There was not much "medical" in this book and it provided no thrills.
