Lexie and her friends (who include an English zombie called Mary, a very quiet ghost called Boo and a fierce skeleton called Bebe) are super excited about Halloween this year - after all, where better to spend it than at Camp Croak, spookiest holiday camp EVER? And the arrival of two new Ghost Scouts is the icing on the cake - until Lexie accepts a dare from one of them, and a rogue spell is cast ... does this mean the end of Halloween? And could it be the evil Euphemia Vile behind the chaos that ensues? With a lot of runny noses, the Ghost Scouts show that they can again band together and enjoy the party!
If this is your first trip to Camp Croak with the Ghost Scouts series, then where the blazers have you been! This series, with its wild caricatures, creepy customers and Cajun flavouring is a dazzling trip into the weird and wonderful; stories of friendly, otherworldly creatures at a holiday camp, they're spooky little numbers with a heart that thumps, an eye that swivels and a stomach that chuckles.
In the most recent instalment – Chaos at Camp Croak – the camp-goers are making preparations for Halloween under the six eyes of the three-headed camp leader. But when our main character, Lexie is coaxed into casting a spell (and not a great one, by any standards), then she and her camp friends are forced to go on a trip through the weirdest landscapes (my favourite being the Shallow Swamp of Aggressive Sorrow) to put things right. They follow their noses (in more ways than one) into a faerie lair, and trouble looks like it might bubble some more…
With Taylor Dolan’s bonkers art, which is free and full of freaky fun, and her wicked words – she pairs wonderful creatures with unusual and unlikely adjectives – it’s a wild sensory ride that will tug the corners of your mouth while your tongue has fun wrapping itself around the Deep South accent that lilts on every page. For fans of the surreal, this is so really, really good, and I hope this series never ends.
A perfect scream for Halloween, for all ages, shapes and sizes.
super cute installment with some Halloween chaos and antics! Not my favourite in the series but certainly still charming and funny, and well illustrated.
