A weekend fling in Atlantic City couldn’t be more out of socially shy Zach Cohen’s comfort zone, but a bet with his best friends forces him to put aside the humiliation he’s hidden for years and step away from behind his computer screens and online world. When he meets Sam Stein, despite their spark, Zach expects nothing more than a night of passion and a kiss good-bye. Yet weeks later, he can’t keep the man out of his head.

After a split-second decision with tragic results ends his twenty-year police career at the same time as his relationship falls apart, Sam Stein is drifting through life. At his best friend’s urging, he agrees to a trip to Atlantic City to clear his head. What Sam doesn’t plan on is meeting Zach Cohen, whose sweet nature and honesty has him thinking maybe he could move forward, until Zach leaves him without explanation, reinforcing Sam’s belief that people can’t be trusted.

Well-meaning friends refuse to let Zach and Sam hide from each other, forcing them to realize their weekend was much more than a one-night stand. Before that can happen, Zach must come to terms with his past and stand up for his own independence, while Sam has to learn to take a chance and believe in himself and people again. All bets are off when dreams become reality, and forever doesn’t seem to be long enough.

Betting on Forever is book two in The Breakfast Club series by Felice Stevens. This was Zach and Sam’s story. Two men who had been hurt and had given up on any chance of finding love. Both resigned to a life alone. Until a chance meeting changed everything.

Zach Cohen is twenty nine years old. He’s a computer genius. He made his fortune selling a dating app but he sees that as ironic since he himself doesn’t date. He was hurt by someone back in college and has never really moved on from it. His two best friends, Marcus and Julian, are constantly trying to pull Zach out of his reclusiveness but their world of clubs and parties isn’t for him. When Zach has to go to Atlantic City for a convention, they bet that Zach can’t have a fling while he’s there. He has no interest in participating in their antics. But Zach also didn’t plan on meeting Sam!

Sam Stein is thirty nine years old. Six months earlier, he lost everything. He found out his boyfriend of two years was cheating on him, and he made a major mistake at work. Sam was an undercover cop. As a result, he was forced to resign. Now Sam occasionally helps out his friend Harry who owns a computer security company. Harry talked Sam into coming with him to Atlantic City for the convention. Little did he know that his first night there he would meet a man who would change his life.

Sam and Zach instantly hit it off and share a passionate night together. But in the light of day, doubts plague them both. Back in New York, neither can forget the other. There was just something about their time together that touched them both. With a little help from their friends, they find their way to each other once again.

I loved how sweet, quiet Zach wasn’t going to let Sam walk away again when he finally found him. I loved his determination. Both of these men were so closed off, both had given up. But together, they found something worth working towards. Zach found the strength to finally move forward. He had so much more inner strength than he realized. And Sam finally let down the walls he had kept up. He found a beauty in Zach he never expected.

This was a sweet story of healing and love. Of course, I loved seeing how happy Julian and Nick are from the first book. And poor Marcus. I can’t wait to find out his story in the next book, Second to None. Also, we get a little more of Zach and Sam in the novella, What Lies Between Us.

“You will always be enough for me.”

Is Zach Cohen's story. He is the shy, introvert geek. The one who still live with his mum and hiding in the basement with his computers. Rather watched Netflix and eating Phad Thai than hanging out with his fabulous friends, Julian, the fashion designer or Marcus, the night club owner. Okay, it actually sounds as bad as it is. But everyone deserve their HEA, even the nerdy ones and Zach is such a sweetheart! Just give him a chance and he will definitely melt your heart with his shy glances and blushing.

description

Sam Stein is an ex-cop on an early retirement and now working as a private investigator with his best pal, Henry. Sam just got off a long term relationship with his cheating boyfriend and still mopping around generally until Henry can't stand his sorry ass and drag him to Atlantic City for an IT conference where he met Zach.

The last thing Zach will do is to hook up with a stranger, but Zach was feeling confident for the first time and decided to be fun and reckless for once. Meeting Sam and spending the night together is one of the best thing that he ever remember doing. Too bad that he is too shy to ask for more before he had to hightail back to NYC.

Both Zach and Sam have such nossy friends that keep pushing them together and they can't stay in denial with their attraction anymore. For once, Zach is having the courage to fight for the man he wants.

In meeting Sam, Zach's bland, colorless world had been upset: spun upside down off its monotonous axis and invigorated with color, light, and sound. For once, someone wanted him - just Zach.

description

Both of these men have their own unresolved past. Sam still live with regrets with the way his career in the force ended, while Zach's lack of confidence stem from a past abusive relationship. But together they make each other stronger and heal each other heart. I sound totally sappy, I agree.

This is my second Felice's books and I can say that she write some really feel good romance that will guarantee to make you swoon at some point. Unless you are too cynical to feel that. The reason I can't rate this higher is because the pacing of this book is on the rather slow side and there is a lack of a subplot to make things more interesting. The whole story centered around Zach and Sam and nothing else, beside of seeing them hanging out with the bff, Julian and Marcus. In the previous book, Beyond the Surface, there is a side story on Julian's working with the burn victim to bring an extra dimension to the story.

Nevertheless, Zach and Sam's journey is a touching and emotional one that left me feeling absolutely contended. I'm glad to catch up with the lovebirds, Julian and Nick. I'm sure Marcus is all green with envy now that both his bff are settled down. Looking forward to see how Marcus, the biggest manwhore in NYC fall in love.

Le sigh....I really had high hopes for this one, but unfortunately, Zach's story fell completely flat.

Zach and Sam had such potential. Shy and introverted Zach was perfectly paired up with disgruntled and jaded Sam. Both men were deeply affected by the hurt of past relationships and just going through the motions of life. Sam lost his trust in men, and his career as a police officer, by the betrayal of an ex-lover. While Zach lost himself...his self-confidence, his self-worth...at the hands of an emotionally (and at times physically and maybe sexually) abusive ex-boyfriend.

With a setup like that, this had the makings of an emotional story, satisfying character growth and heartwarming revelations and acceptance...not to mention one hell of a love story. Well, unfortunately all of that was lost by the author's over the top focus on romanticizing love. This single-minded focus completely overshadowed any development of the MC's connection and the creation of chemistry between them.

Most of the issues and conflict was swept away with hand holding, kite flying, walks on the beach and cuddling. Both of these characters very easily flipped a switch and changed all of their long standing doubts and insecurities because of a hug or hand squeeze or blowjob. Complete change of personality. Serious issues were introduced here....overwhelming grief due to the death of a loved one, cheating, abusive relationships, etc...but the author didn't commit to tackling any of these issues in a realistic manner. One or two sentences and POOF....problem gone.

Maybe I'm too jaded for this brand of romance. I love a good love story and I'm the first to say I won't pick up a book without an HEA......but if I wanted to read an idealized fairytale, I'd pick one up. I'm familiar with Felice Stevens' work and know that sweet and steamy with perfect HEA's is her signature style, and I've bought it and gobbled it up....until now. This book was just too over the top with the lyrical prose about romance and love and completely lost any resemblance to reality.

This story was just the sweet, romantic tale I wanted for the shy, quiet Zach after meeting him in Beyond the Surface.

For all of Zach’s business success he can’t get over the past hurt and humiliation to move forward with his social life. As much as his outgoing and sometimes overbearing friends, Julian and Marcus, try to pull him out of his mother’s basement and out of his shell, Zach is not like them and not looking to pick up men in a club. As far as Zach is concerned nobody would want him and he is nothing special. While he wouldn’t mind a hook-up he wants much more. A weekend convention in Atlantic City spurs him on to put on a different façade and pretend to be the man he wished he could be, a more self-confident man on the prowl.

Six months ago Sam’s personal and professional life went completely down the tubes and he lost both his job as a cop as well as his cheating boyfriend of two years. He hasn’t forgiven himself or gotten over his good for nothing ex. Being dragged to a convention by his best friend and new boss isn’t exactly what he wants to be doing until he spots the very sexy Zach at the hotel bar and invites him for dinner.

The two share a romantic night together with plans to do it again, but when Zach must unexpectedly leave to help out his mother, yet another problem Zach needs to address, misunderstandings and hurt feelings ensue. Luckily for both men their friends know what’s good for them and aren’t afraid to let them know and even give them a good hard shove in the right direction. While Sam may be hurt, he hasn’t been able to forget Zach and Zach isn’t about to let the best thing to happen to him in a long time walk away without a fight.

This book moved along so nicely and Felice Stevens created two incredibly lovable MC’s in Zach and Sam. The men are kindred spirits, both lonely, both romantics and both needing something or someone to pull them out of the holes they are hiding in. Neither sees themselves as a person the other would want; both struggling with pain and regret from past relationships.

After the initial doubt and mistrust passes Zach and Sam begin to face their fears. The book doesn’t get overly angsty, but each man has some hurdles to overcome. Zach, has spent years hiding parts of himself from his friends and his mother and realizes that in order to build a life with Sam he’s going to have to come out and come clean.

The story easily works as a standalone, but fans of the first book will be glad to get more of Marcus, Nick and Julian. As I’m looking back over my Kindle notations for this review there aren’t many and I realize that’s because I was just reading along and enjoying the ride. If you want a story about two men who really deserve it, finding love and happiness, I definitely recommend you pick this one up. Add in a bit of steam, some incredibly tender moments and kite flying on the beach and this may just be Felice Stevens’ most romantic book yet!

“It was a kiss of tenderness and sweetness. A kiss that spoke of early mornings and late nights. A kiss of forever.”

I was so excited to read Zach Cohen’s story, the mild mannered quiet member of the bunch!

Zach’s first meeting with ex-cop Sam Stein was well constructed and instantly had me rooting for these two!

I loved how shy Zach wasn’t meek, he was a highly successful businessman, and though on the service they seem to be complete opposites, they were masterfully woven to create multi-dimensional characters.

Ms. Stevens created a world that truly pulled me in, not only did she bring New York City to life, she built a vivid world inside of this city.

I loved the park scene with the young girl, it brought so much home through the words of an innocent child.

Sam and Zach clearly share a bond that continues to deepen with time. I loved how they both opened up to each other in ways they never had before.

Zach sharing things he never shared with even Marcus or Julian drove this deep bond home.

Speaking of Julian and Marcus, it was wonderful to visit with them. And the bond the three friends Julian, Marcus and Zach share continued to touch my heart, witnessing the bond evolve as dynamics changed warmed my heart.

Julian and Nick’s relationship moving forward (Beyond the Surface book 1) added to this story and had a scene that played right into this story line.

Speaking of secondary characters, the use of both Sam and Zach’s mothers made this story so powerful.

Each brings baggage to this relationship having less than healthy parental relationships but each grows as they find a balance with their mothers.

I adore this cast and I am so excited to read Marcus next in Second to None!

Marcus is too funny and has such a big personality…witnessing him fall should be fun!

havent mentioned it at the first book. but the friendship of julian, marcus and zach are wonderful. i love it. i look forward to reading them together. i love them so much.

nothing wrong with the book i just hate cops and the mc being one altho he is retired but sometimes he makes it as his own personality. thats it. love the dynamics. and i love that the age gap wasnt made a huge deal like other books or it wasnt a kink or whatever. forgot to mention the mom thing. zach shouldve consulted sam first before doing that. yikes.

I couldn't wait to get to Zach's story. He was quiet and shy, in Julian and Nick's book, and I couldn't wait to get to know him. Felice didn't disappoint. I loved Zach and Sam.

Zach is shy and geeky. Hurt in the past he hides from everyone in the basement of his mother's house. Spending his days and nights in front of the computer building app's and beta testing others.

Sam, a retired cop, forced out of the force after an incident has spent the last six months hiding away with tv and takeout, after his early retirement and the breakup of his last relationship.

Zach and Sam meet and share a steamy night in Atlantic City.

I loved this story and I loved Zach and Sam. Both are lovable characters that have to deal with past hurts to move on to the future with each other. Felice as usual knocked this out of the park. I haven't read a book by her yet, that I haven't loved, and I have read them all.

Zach and Sam had chemistry and shared some smoking hot sex. The story is well written and set on one of my favorite settings, NYC. It is well paced. I loved getting to see Nick and Julian again, as well as Marcus. I can't wait to get to his story, and unravel the mystery that is Marcus!

Highly recommended!

5 Heartwarming Stars!!

Receiving Betting on Forever from Felice Stevens was like getting a precious gift! It's an extremely special and touching book, that I will never forget. Felice has created another emotionally beautiful love story with exceptional characters. Zach & Sam's story will steal your heart.... You will fall hard and fast. Plus, The Breakfast Crew is back! We get to see what Julian, Nick and Marcus have been up to. The dynamic between them all was still spot on. Their support and devotion for one another still shined throughout the book...

The glimpses I got of Zach Cohen in Beyond the surface, I knew I needed to know more about this beautiful and devastatingly shy man. He's the type of character that we yearn for in books. The ones that make us feel. They climb into our chests and squeeze our hearts. Poor sweet Zach suffered as a child, by never quite fitting in and always feeling rejected. Pair that with his only real relationship turning bad, he is crippled by insecurity and inadequacy. He craves love and understanding, but believes he will never find it.

Sam Stein slayed me just as much as Zach. He is lonely and broken. An ex-cop who seems to have lost his way. He has a similar story... Not having the best childhood and his only serious relationship ending with him hurt and bitter. He has conceited to live a life of solitude. But beneath is cool exterior is a compassionate and loving soul, just wanting to love and be cherished.

When Zach & Sam met it was supposed be one weekend of fun. Never did they expect to be caught up in a whirlwind of feelings. Their road is paved with issues they both need to over come. Their vulnerability and fear annihilated my heart. There is plenty of angst and miscommunications to keep your heart aching! I loved the way they slowly transformed.... They learned from each other, began trusting, started to heal and ultimately grew together. Two kindred spirits perfectly matched.... I adore these boys! I wish I could pluck them from the pages and hug them.

What I love about a Felice book is you forget you are reading about two men.... It's just two people navigating their relationship and falling in love. She writes about men effortlessly and naturally....
Now, bring on Marcus's book. I need to see if this bad boy can be tamed and just who can do it!!!!

This is the second book in The Breakfast Club series which is set around three best friends. Each book focuses on each of the men and this time it is Zach Cohen.

Zach is the geek of the trio, he is more interested in his computers, his work and staying in his basement at his Mom’s house rather than out on the town like his extrovert two best friends, Marcus and Julian. He gets riled continuously by his besties about his shy and introvert lifestyle. However with a weekend conference on the cards in Atlantic City, he is coerced into accepting a bet to throw caution to the wind and hook up with someone whilst he is there. When he sees the man at the bar who makes eye contact and talks to him, Zach takes it as his chance to pretend to be his hidden reckless self.

Sam Stein has been dragged to the conference by his best friend Henry. As an ex-cop he now helps Henry in his investigative business so felt obliged to accompany him on this trip. Recovering from a cheating ex over six months ago he has been coasting along with no interest in life or relationships. But then he sees the sexy guy at the bar and asks him out for dinner!

Both men are at a crossroads in their life and when they meet both feel something they haven’t had before. However after a night of passion and promises of more, things get mixed up and wrong assumptions made leaving them both thinking that was it and the last time they will see one another. Fate, however has a hand and they find themselves not only living near each other but with friends pushing them to take off where they left it. That isn’t to say it all goes smoothly and there is an angst filled ride the reader is taken on before these two sort themselves out and take a chance on each other.

This is a lovely, sweet but oh so sexy addition to the series. I liked that this mainly focused on the relationship issues between two men who have constraints from the past impacting on their present and how they overcome these. Yes sometimes I like a bit of drama as a sub story but I felt it wasn’t needed here.

A lovely emotional and feel good romance with a hot cop and a sexy geek! Four and a half stars.

Since finding myself quite the Felice Stevens fan, I have been meaning to dive into The Breakfast Club. After enjoying the first book in the series, I was eager to dive into the second. Betting on Forever was the story of my favourite side character from Beyond the Surface, making me super eager to dive in.

As I’d hoped, Betting on Forever was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed Beyond the Surface. Whereas Beyond the Surface was a rounded up four-star rating, Betting on Forever was a solid four-star rating. I was hooked, and once I started it I had to finish it in a single sitting.

Betting on Forever is a great story, containing the things Felice Stevens is so good at writing. It’s both sweet and steamy, it has both adorable and serious moments, and there is plenty to keep you hooked throughout. The relationship between the two characters and the way they grew is one of my favourite Felice Stevens developments, and I was not disappointed by Zach’s story – it was exactly what I’d been hoping for.

This one also gives us a lot of promise for third book, as things occur that have an impact upon Marcus. In fact, Betting on Forever made me eager to see how his story played out, leaving me with high hopes.

Overall, Betting on Forever was a wonderful second book in The Breakfast Club series.

This book was so beautiful and just so good!
This author and the way she writes sweet romance books, they grab me every time and I can not put them down once I start reading.
With this book you get sweet, shy and quiet Zach. I loved his character in the first book and after reading this book I love his character so much more now.
Then there was Sam's character and there is just something about a sweet caring ex- cop who just wants to take care of Zach and make him happy when Zach has not had much happiness in a long time.
The two of them together, I do not think I can put into words how much I loved them together.
You do get your angst with this book and the sweet also the steam between this two which was just so hot! The way the author wrote these characters was just amazing because this story draws you in and you feel like you are feeling everything they are going through. You also see the characters from the first book in this series which I loved! I have to say I can not wait for Marcus's turn because I want to see the man that stops Marcus in his tracks and makes him give up his player ways.

All together I really loved this book!
I would definitely 100% recommend this book!

I listened to the audio version and really enjoyed the narration. It added a lot to the story, imo. The story wasn't perfect and the connection between the MCs is instant but they don't fall in love until towards the end. I wish it could be explained why some people find and feel an instant connection with someone after just a few words. It bothered me that both parties were in a tizzy over the fact that Zach had to leave the hotel and go home to his mother. OMG, you are adults - act like it! Zach, just explain in the note it was a family emergency and you are sorry to leave but would love to get together again. And LEAVE YOUR PHONE NUMBER!! Is that so hard? I mean, you practically stalk Sam to get him to listen to you after the fact. I would think groveling is harder than being forthright in the first place.

I felt this was added drama for drama sake. But once they got over themselves things were on a good track. I liked their chemistry as they spent more time together. And really loved all the friends. I give the narration 4.5; story 3.69. 😁

I would give all the stars for Zach if I could, but unfortunately Sam knocked them down. And so did Marcus, if I'm being honest. Although towards the last 10, 15, 20% they both kind of redeemed themselves, it just wasn't enough for me.
I adored Zach and thought he was a complete sweetheart. I wanted him to find all the love and be happy! I had high hopes for Sam, that he'd be just the right man for Zach. That first meeting gave me such a good feeling. But then when they reconnected, there were times I really didn't like him- the way he judged Zach and jumped to way too many conclusions frustrated me to no end. I know he had his own issues, but I just didn't get that warm fuzzy feeling about him.
It actually pains me not to be able to give this a higher rating, but I just can't. Maybe this is one I should have read instead of listened to. When I get some free time I think I'll do that.

You’ve heard of comfort reads? This is mine. I adore this book and will read it over and over. Since my original review didn’t say everything I wanted to, I decided to re-write it (original review is included below).

I was drawn to Zach from the moment I met him in Beyond the Surface. There was something special about him. Maybe it was his shyness and sweet blushes. Or his gentleness. Maybe it was his geekiness. Or it was the hopeless romantic in him who championed Julian and Nick’s reconciliation. Whatever it was, I knew I wanted…no…I NEEDED him to have his happily ever after.

So I was super happy when he got his own book.

Listening to how much he longed for a man and realizing just how deep the pain from his last relationship went just about broke my heart. I hurt for him. I so badly wanted him to find love...to find his perfect guy. I was really glad he decided to be strong and confident while he was in Atlantic City. Seeing that new side of him was wonderful.

I felt bad for Sam too. He’d had it rough, having gone through a breakup of his own plus leaving the police force. It didn’t take me long to see the sweet man underneath the gruff exterior though.

Their first meeting was electric - the attraction and desire sparking between them. I loved that they clicked right away. No slow burn here. They ignited hot and fast and their first time in bed was sexy and playful and so damn good.

Which is why I hated the disconnect between them when they got back to the city. I could understand why they both went back to the way things were before they met, but I needed them together and they weren’t going to get there by sitting in their own houses. Thankfully, Sam’s friend Henry stepped up and did something about that.

One of the things I love most about this book is Zach’s transformation. After meeting Sam, he started to stick up for himself more. He finally stood up for himself with Marcus and Julian, he wouldn’t let Sam walk away without hearing the truth about Atlantic City and he refused to accept Sam’s silence when it came to his retirement and past relationships. Zach was finally becoming the man he was always meant to be, and it was amazing to see.

I loved watching their love blossom. I loved the sweet moments they shared. Loved the kisses and gentle touches. The laughs and more serious moments. The sexy times, of course, and even the disagreements. Every moment spent with them makes my heart happy. They truly are perfect for each other and I utterly adore them.

Original Review
The minute I met Zach in Beyond the Surface, I knew that I needed to know more about him. He was quiet and seemed so sad. I wanted to see him find his happily ever after. So I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into Betting on Forever.

It was fabulous!

I wasn't a big fan of Marcus goading Zach into the bet but ultimately, it worked out. Sam is dreamy and he's the perfect fit for Zach. I absolutely adore these two.

Zach and Sam's story is emotional. I got angry and frustrated at times but I also smiled and laughed and even got a bit teary. I really loved how Zach and Sam fought for their relationship and how neither one was willing to let the other walk away.

It was great seeing Julian and Nick again and even Marcus. And I cannot wait to see what's in store for good ole Marcus.

This is my favorite book of Felice's so far. Her writing is always spectacular but I really connected with Zach and Sam and enjoyed every minute of their beautiful story. I wanted to keep reading long after the last page was turned.

REVIEW OF RE-RELEASED AUDIO BOOK:

This is my absolute favorite book and I really loved the original audio book. But this is Charlie David! You just know he's going to do a phenomenal job bringing these guys to life. I admit that it took a little while to adjust to hearing a different voice but once I settled into Charlie's rhythm, I lost myself in the story all over again. He did such an amazing job with my boys. His inflection brought life to each of the characters so perfectly, I didn't want it to end. This is an audio that I'd listen to again and again.

REVIEW OF ORIGINAL AUDIO BOOK:

Listening to the audio version of your favorite book can be a scary prospect. What if you don't gel with the narrator? What if he doesn't bring it to life the same way you imagined? When I first got the audio of Betting on Forever, I had never listened to an audio book before. I didn't even know if I'd like listening to a book. But Marc Bachmann laid all my fears to rest in the first chapter. He brought Zach and Sam to life so beautifully. He had me laughing and crying and hooked on his every word. He gave me a new way to enjoy my favorite book.

Zach was the shy, introverted, brilliant, self made millionaire we met in Julian’s book. He was one of the triad of the close friendship between him, Julian and Marcus. I was immediately intrigued, knowing that each friend from the breakfast club would get his own book, but a little surprised that Zach’s story would come before Marcus. Zach seemed uninspiring and boring compared to the rascally and highly sexualized Marcus. But, Zach is not boring so much as he is hiding deep, dark secrets from his friends, and it will take a special man to get him to confront those secrets and more forwards.

Sam is an ex-cop whose friend/boss is dead set on getting him laid. Sam also has a history that needs to be handled with kid gloves and you just know that Zach is the man who can get him to take a chance. Unfortunately, their brilliant beginning ends in an emotionally devastating way that only convinces Sam that he was not intended to have a happy ending. He didn’t get to meet the real Zach and sometimes first impressions, though wrong, still linger and refuse to believe they were could be mistaken.

Zach and Sam need each other desperately, and with the help of their friends, find a way to get past the perceived betrayal and injustice and take a chance on each other. That chance required Zach to confront his mom. It was beautiful the way Zach handled his needy mother, and having her support her son unconditionally did wonders to ease my mind. I am not sure how Zach would survive without her support. There is something insanely awesome about a momma’s boy, but there is also a fine line between love and enabling dependency. This issue was handled with grace.

Now we get to wait to see how Marcus deals with his hidden pain and see who will be his knight in shining armor…the one who puts an end to Marcus’s slut puppy noncommittal ways. I’m totally looking forward to it.

Another beautiful story ...

I adored this book. Zach and Sam's story was charming and heartfelt.
Zach broke my heart, period. His low self-esteem, along with his notion that he's invisible, led him to a life behind the safety and solitude of his computer. If it wasn't for Marcus, Julian, and now Nick, he'd be utterly alone.
"Hiding away in his basement, talking to men online had become his norm. Zach knew he had a problem. Years of put-downs and humiliation will do that; when you’ve been told no one would want you, that you’re boring and nothing special, eventually you believe it." Ugh!!!!
Sam was just as lost as Zach. Really, all he had was his best friend, Henry, who would come and get him out of his house to play ball once a week. Sam was an ex cop, forced into early retirement due to an unfortunate accident involving his partner. That situation, along with a bitter breakup with his live-in lover, helped send Sam down the same lonely road as Zach.
Luckily fate, a convention in Atlantic City, along with some help from their friends, had a different plan for these two. What a pleasure it was to actually feel how their love story unfolded; filled with so much honesty, insecurity, and want. The end result was beautiful.
Felice Stevens paints such a captivating and enchanting picture with her style of writing. She places her readers exactly where her characters are: Caruso's bakery, Coney Island, or under the Verrazano Bridge flying a kite; the smell or the sight can be easily imagined. The supporting cast of characters are just as important and lovable, adding the perfect amount of humor, annoyance, unwanted opinions, unconditional friendship and love. I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen with Marcus! His story is going to be epic. This series is turning into one of my all time favorites, therefore, I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Wow!! What can I say about this one...except that it was beautifully written and I did not want it to end.

Betting on Forever is Zach Cohen and Sam Stein's story. When I began reading this book I did not expect to read such an emotionally gripping and beautiful story. The way Felice Stevens took me on the journey with Zach and Sam towards finding their happily ever after was absolutely amazing. I have to say that this is the first one that I was not so sure that there would be a happily ever after!! YIKES!!!

Zach is the youngest of the three friends, but he is also the genius of the group and has done extremely well for himself in the tech world, but his past holds him back from truly moving forward. Zach's background story truly broke my heart and I felt for him. I understood why he was such a quiet introverted person unlike his best friends Marcus and Julian. And in walks Sam Stein into his life at a time when he least expects it. Sam is older than Zach and he is a retired NYPD cop. Although Sam had a lot of issues to work out in his own personal life in order to truly be the man that Zach needed him to be, but in the end, Sam was the perfect match for Zach. I must admit to being upset with Sam for a while because he refused to listen to Zach or to even see that Zach was not his ex and was not playing games with him or his heart. However, I got over it!! Hahaha!!

I absolutely loved this installment in the Breakfast Club series, and I look forward to Marcus' story...it is time for the playboy of the group to get caught!! Great job on this one, Felice Stevens.

This is the second book in this series based around a group of three friends, I wouldn't say you have to read the first one to understand this story but it would be a shame not to read them in series order.

So this is Zach's story and from the first book we have already learnt he is the shy reserved geeky one of the group that is the butt of a lot of jokes from his friends. Following a challenge by his friends Zach decides to rise to the bet for himself and so attends an IT convention with a whole new agenda. I loved confident Zach, even if we knew it was all an act, it was great to see him strut his stuff.

Sam was quite a deep character I thought and I liked how he and Zach complimented each other. Sam is at a loose end in life following the abrupt end to his Police career and a messy end to a relationship. Until he meets Zach and life suddenly has a focus again.

I loved how the relationship between these two started off a little rocky following some misunderstandings. It was great to see Zach finally grasp life for himself and find the happiness he and Sam deserved. I loved romantic Sam so much.

Another great addition to this series and I really cannot wait for Marcus' story already.

Felice Stevens AKA Happily Ever After Goddess has once again filled our hearts with a brilliant love story. Betting on Forever (Book 2 in her Breakfast Club Series) is all about Zach. Book one (Beyond the Surface) covered Julien’s love life and how he fell, and refell in love with his hunky fireman MAN! We saw Zach at their daily breakfasts, quiet, shy, nerdy Zach. I was so freaking excited to see him get his story. Zach’s epic pair-up is with ex-cop Sam. Yes, another man in uniform. My heart almost exploded. I knew that Zach had sadness in his past and we finally get to see what that is all about. He finds his match in Sam, someone who’s past, though not identical to the hurts, is just as painful. These two were born for each other. And I love love loved watching them heal, mend, and grow. They each helped the other carry their pasts and throw them over a cliff and fly into their future.
Felice has an amazing knack of mixing hot lusty love with beautiful tranquil love. Her recipes are delicious and you find yourself talking about it long after it’s been consumed.
Betting on Forever is a romance with fractured men looking for their imperfect life. Because nothing and no one is perfect and the road to happily ever after is never easy!
Bravo!

Beautiful, Amazing Story!!

I'm so happy Zach has his story. Shy and quiet, Zach hides behind his computer after being abused and made to feel invisible and worthless by an ex. He doesn't engage in relationships and barely hangs out with his friends. He us attending a conference in Atlantic City though and his friends bet him that he won't hook up with someone for the weekend. Not expecting to find anyone, he meets Sam in the bar. Sam is a retired cop, with his own demons, but one look at Zach and he's a goner!!

A night of passion is more than just a hook up, but Zach is called home by his Mom, and Sam thinks he was duped again. Thankfully, their friends decide to butt in and force them together. Both of them have to open up and face their fears in order to have the love and life they both want.

Well written, great storyline, filled with romance and love, humor and angst. A storyline that made me laugh and cry! I loved it!

Betting on Forever is a sweet M/M love story filled with ups and downs. Sam is a tough ex-cop. Zach is a shy but successful techno geek. Both have tons of baggage and trouble trusting. Both men were very likable and believable.

The plot was well written and realistic. It wasn't really suspenseful, but it DID hold my attention well, and I read it nonstop in one day.

This was my first book by Felice Stevens. Even though it's book two of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. That being said, it was so good that I went and downloaded book one to read more about Julian and Nick. I'm hoping that the author is writing a book three about Marcus because I really want him to get a HEA.

I reviewed this book on behalf of A Book Lover's Emporium book blog.

Betting on Forever by Felice Stevens was amazing! Love it from the first page to the last. Cannot wait to read more in this series so I can see what is happening with Zach and Sam and the others.

Zach and Sam meet and have a one night stand but neither can forget the other. The chemistry between these two characters will melt your Kindle.

I love that we get to see Marcus, Nick and Julian from the first book in this series. Felice Stevens is an amazing writer. You can actually feel the happiness or pain as you are reading. This book flows in your head like a movie. No part lags or makes you want to rush along but actually say no when you get to the last page.

Waiting impatiently for Marcus to get his book.

There is just something about Zach... Maybe it's just he seems to be exactly the type of guy I could see myself loving if I met one. Whatever it maybe this book really touched me deeply. At this point Felice Stevens is my new favorite author. Though having my boss walk in & finding me in tears in front of the computer was nuts. LOL Good thing we are such good friends since he otherwise may have thought I was having some kind of emotional breakdown! :-) Well on to book 3 "Second to None"!

Review:
Imagine taking a bet on a whim. A bet you never really were going to follow thru on, that is until you meet the other half to your soul at a random conference in Atlantic City. This is the opening to Zach & Sam's story, yet neither of them realize that from their first walk along a darkened beach they were starting a journey of Betting on Forever.

Felice Stevens has quickly become one of my favorite authors of the gay romance genre. She masterfully weaves tales of lost and slightly damaged men finding each other in unique situations and starting their journeys to happiness together. Her stories are realistic, something you would expect a friend to tell you how they met their significant other. Her stories are loving and tender, yet they are hot and sexy in all the right places. The perfect combination and I have not read one yet that I don't utterly love!

Betting on Forever is the latest in 5 star stories from The Breakfast Club Series and it lives up to book one with flying colors! I just can't tell you enough how much I loved this book, this series, these characters!

In this story we follow Sam and Zach. Zach is a member of a group of friends who have a routine breakfast date once a month, The Breakfast Club, this group of guys is one we have read about before when we read Julian and Nick's story and it is a group we will catch up with at least once more when we read Marcus' story. All of the guys in this little group have been friends so long it's as If they are related -they love, understand, and accept each other -faults and all. So as you see Felice has set up the perfect little family and she is telling each of their stories separately - but don't fear, she isn't afraid to bring past characters forward into new books and let us catch up on their lives.

Back to our main characters in this story. Sam, he is pretty much an introverted damaged man who feels his self worth is pretty much at the bottom of the line. His best friend has decided enough is enough and brings him along to a business convention in Atlantic City with the hopes he will let loose and have a good time. Enter Zach. Zach is a homebody and a hopeless romantic; he has though all but given up on finding his happily ever after and is content living vicariously through his friends. When these two meet sparks fly and passion takes over as they both decide to have a weekend to remember. Ah, but remember our author? Yes, she isn't about to let these two throw away a passion and connection so intense - no, Zach and Sam may not know it at this point but they are bound together from that first night. The story of getting them to their forever is one you don't want to miss!!

I highly recommend this book. Whether you are new to Felice Stevens or even new to the male/male genre -- this is a must read.

The books in The Breakfast Club Series are all complete novels. No cliffhangers! You really should read them in order, but I suppose if you wanted you could read out of order. Enjoy!!
