“This is what happens when you run from a wolf. You’re my mate, Charlie. I’ll hunt you to the ends of the earth.”
4.5 stars!
Another steamy and surprisingly sweet addition to this series by Renee and Lee! I absolutely LOVED Lance, especially towards the end. He might have started out as the unapologetic playboy, but after he finds his mate, he's willing to sacrifice everything for her and his pup.
Charlie was a great (if semi-frustrating) heroine who I ended up loving as well. The bonus epilogue was not enough as I just want more from these two! I cannot wait for Rafe and Adele's story, and I really hope we don't have to wait till 2022 to get it!! ♡
3.4 stars. I can’t explain it. I like it enough to finish and I’m going to keep reading this series but there’s something in this book/series that bothers me and I can’t quite put my finger on it.
The biggest thing in this book is this dude is a certified manwhore and the heroine has seen him pick up other women in front of her. And we hear him lust after another woman in his mind when he’s with her on a date. His wolf is like “nah, man. We want the heroine” but it’s gross that he’s got one woman in hand and is already planning the next. The only reason he stops is that she’s his mate. Which basically means his wolf overrules the manwhore.
Thankfully, the wolf overrules early and the dude is dedicated to the heroine for the rest of the book. The heroine thinks “manwhores do not change their spots” (I agree) but this book seems to think that now that he’s mated, he’s a one woman man. And he’ll never stray. Enh.
But that’s not the whole thing that bothers me. The other I can’t figure out. There’s some dynamic here that’s slightly off. Maybe I’ll see it in someone else’s reviews.
This is the second book in the Shifter Ops series and features Charlie and Lance. We meet both of these characters in Sadie and Deke’s book. Charlie has a one-night stand with Lance and is determined to leave it at a one-night stand because she has a plan for her life that doesn’t include a sweet-talking playboy. However, after their passionate night together, Lance realizes she is his fated mate and Charlie ends up with a lot more than a few fantastic orgasms...a miracle that will arrive in nine months.
Reeling from the unexpected news that puts a new path on her plan, Charlie finds herself completely surprised when Lance is dead set on being a part of her life and their baby’s life. But Charlie doesn’t know what Lance is and that wolves mate for life so Lance has his work cut out for him convincing her that she should take a chance on him and the life they could build. Charlie is hesitant and unsure and Lance is in a dangerous business. Can the two of them let down their walls and forge forward together? Can they create a life together?
I have several thoughts on this story. First, Charlie was a lot less badass than I was expecting her to be and that bothered me a little. I understand her life had been flipped upside down but I felt like she was too wishy-washy. Second, I loved Lance. He was so loyal and caring and sexy as hell. The steamy scenes in here were on point. Third, I really enjoyed the storyline but I did get a little bored at some points. Fourth, I need Rafe’s story like NOW. Overall, a cute and steamy shifter romance!
So far the Shifter Ops series is pretty lighthearted and trope-y. This book features a player MMC who goes into full pursuit mode when he finds his mate, a FMC who plans to marry a sensible accountant, and a one night stand that results in a pregnancy. I had a lot of fun reading this, and especially loved when the MMC’s wolf form was really playful, but did want a tiny bit more something… maybe more emotional punch?
Great book! Everything you expect from reading a Renee Rose/Lee Saving book! Great story, well written, wonderful characters, and smexy times that will light your kindle on fire. Can't wait for the next one!!
I actually really like the unexpected pregnancy trope and I’m okay with being a rare find in that sense.
I liked seeing Lance’s vulnerabilities in this book. Always assumed to be just a player who’s laid back and doesn’t care, it was nice to see that stemmed from trying to be the absolute opposite to Rafe due to their trauma growing up. Charlie I think is so bad ass and I definitely see parts of myself in her. I could fully relate to her always wanting to have a plan (hey there I’m a Virgo)
I liked seeing them deal with the pregnancy together and letting it join them rather than separate them. Also loved the kick up a notch steam that we got with this couple.
As always there’s just nothing better than an over protective wolf shifter willing to do anything for his mate.
Perfect, actually I don't like it when pregnancy determines the way. But I could really hear God's laughter at the plans the human made and the change from player to totally focused shifter. Nice, more than nice, perfectly written, narrated and constructed. Yummy!
Alpha’s Vow is just a delightful read. You’ve got the classic case of two opposing personalities: Charlie is working through her days to Fulfill Her Life Plan, and Lance is a devil-may-care, love-em-and-leave-em playboy. But Lance is also one of Rose and Savino’s alpha wolf shifters, and when they meet the loves of their lives, they’re goners. And Lance is no exception. So when the condom breaks and Charlie becomes pregnant during their one-night stand, Lance has the perfect reason to stick around and show Charlie just how faithful a shifter who’s met his fated mate can be.
I love that Lance completely screwed up how he handled meeting his fated mate, and how the consequences of that ripple through the book. This is a journey of people meeting in the middle. Charlie needs to learn to understand that risk and uncertainty are all right when you trust and rely on the most important people in your life. Lance needs to own up to his responsibilities, instead of falling behind the shadow of his older brother (a natural reader) and his nonchalant attitude.
Couple this with great supporting characters who have their own colors and shades to stand out, a danger to Charlie that moved in unexpected ways, and really great, snarky humor from Rose and Savino, and you’ve got a book where the pages turn themselves. The Shifter Ops series is turning out to be great fun so far. If you haven’t tried it yet, Alpha’s Vow is a wonderful place to start.
It starts off with a dip in the hot springs and a man that dives into her life and never leaves. Lance was just as surprised to find Charlie in the spring as she is when he suddenly appears. They meet again soon after and Charlie decides to go for a one night stand with the hot guy she met in her dip. There's one problem with her plan, Lance scents her and knows she's his fated mate, now, to make her accept that they were meant for each other. The problem Lance comes up against is Charlie has her future mapped out in her mind and it doesn't include anyone connected to a man that is connected to the military in any way, she's had enough of that life with her parents. Charlie has another problem with her plans, she's now the fated mate for a shifter that will not and cannot turn his back on his mate or the mother to his cub. I am so happy that they eventually work out their problems and get their HEA, even though Charlie's mapped out future caused her and Lance a few hiccups along the way. I LOVE the shifter ops and the men that find their fated mates!
I loved Lance and Charlie! The story captured my attention and heart with a cleverly crafted blend of intense emotions, drama, heart, steam and sprinkles of cute and sweet. I found that both characters were exceedingly likable and that their chemistry and attraction was undeniable. It is a very fun read that will have you chuckling and smiling but also giving some firm tugs on your heartstrings from the major feels that it delivers. A terrific book in an awesome series. Can't wait for book three! I am of my own accord posting a candid review.
'Alpha's Vow' is the second book in Renee Rose and Lee Savino's "Special-Op" series and lives up to everything I've come to expect from this dynamic duo! An alpha male who was in the military, a military brat with a plan who doesn't want to live like she grew up, and a fated, shifter romance. Both Lance and Charlotte, aka Charlie, have such relatable traits in their personalities, the quips and humor between them are terrific, and the HEAT definitely notched up the kindle screen. I really love this series and can't wait for the next one.
Okay, usually I cannot stand a manwhore MMC, like yay he knows what he’s doing in the bedroom.. but uh he knows because every one in town has sampled the goods. Ew.
Lance grows on you, and it’s easier to forgive because he has trauma and boy do I love a good hearted broken soul lol Charlie our FMC is strong and smart and I admired that she stood her ground on what she knew she wanted in her future and Lance grew to help meet those goals she had set.
M/F Interconnected standalones Wolf shifter “Mine” Golden retriever MMC Surprise pregnancy
Lance is fun and it’s great to see Charlie let go a bit. I love an accidental pregnancy so that probably helped, might be best to avoid if that’s a trope you don’t enjoy, I doubt this book would be the one to change your mind. This was a quick fun read. I agree with another reviewer that it felt like it was just his wolf that changed his player ways which leaves it not quite as satisfying a HEA
You are going to fall in love with Lance and Charlie. What do you get when you have 2 amazing authors, a dip in the hot springs and the most gorgeous man you’ve ever seen? The promise of a phenomenal book!
While not my favorite of this duo's Alpha books I did enjoy this and would definitely recommend it! For me, I just didn't care for the way he came off as insecure and let her drive the relationship. Just not very 'alpha' to me. He definitely still fit the protective and possessive attributes I've come to love in these books though!
I've read every book in this interconnected series, and each one is a delight to read, again and again. Alpha's Vow is sweet, sexy, has the perfect amount of heat and chemistry to set the pages on fire. Highly recommended!
I loved this paranormal romance. The characters were funny, romantic and sweet. You could feel their chemistry. The story was steamy, romantic and had all the feels.
Charlie decides to hike out to a hot spring early in the morning of her birthday. She is surprised by a gorgeous nude man jumping into the pool. She knows him as a player who is friends with her friend Sadie's boyfriend.
Lance is a former military wolf shifter working as a mercenary. After bumping into Charlie in the hot springs he cannot get her out of his mind and decides to pursue her. He intentionally bumps into her at a restaurant and they hook up. He realizes she is his mate and he decided he wants a relationship with her but she brushes him off. They do get together again and she finds out she is pregnant. She freaks out a little because she has a life plan and Lance is not the boring stable significant other she was looking for.
Charlie decides to give it a go with Lance who is desperately trying to convince her he is more than a player. She gets kidnapped and Lance and his team rescue her. She runs away to stay with her parents. Lance follows her and proposes. They move back to Taos and get their HEA.
I absolutely LOVED this story. When Renee Rose and Lee Savino team up, they create the most delicious addicting fated mates. This book is no exception. Here we meet Lance, a playboy type, and Charlie, head strong set on following her life plan. They unexpectedly meet in a hot spring and that was enough for Lance to pick up on her scent. Charlie does not know what type world Lance belongs to but she decides to go along and have a one-night stand. When she becomes pregnant, she doesn't expect Lance to be so possessive and set on being part of her life. Charlie and Lance both learn to give in and find a way to make their relationship work. Lance is the possessive delicious Alpha male we all dream of and Charlie is the determined strong-willed human mate that is just perfect for Lance. I truly enjoyed reading their story and can't wait to read the next installment. I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
A hot springs incident provides the introduction of both sizzle and humor for Charlie and Lance. Lance was running as his wolf, and had to shift mid-air to prevent a more shocking introduction.
Charlie already worries about her brother, and grew up worrying about her military parents. She hesitates to get involved with another, in this case ex-military, but still working in security. She allows herself one birthday indulgence.
These two characters are great – on their own, or together. I adore fated mate stories, especially when the one has no idea. How can you resist when someone promises to dedicate his life to making you happy?
Entertaining and romantic.
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
This was nowhere near as good as the first book in this series IMO. The two lead characters Charlie and Lance feature, I liked Lance he was a good guy who constantly seemed to have to prove himself to Charlie, as for her I thought she was more like a woman from a bygone era with her plan for her life, that might be okay except for the fact that she was determined to stick to the plan come what may. Lance was everything she didn’t want in a man, at one point she asked him what did he think of taxes, his reply that he had never done any settled in her mind that he didn’t fit her life plan. I didn’t like her character at all. As for the plot I didn’t think there was much to it in fact it was very slow. I’m quite disappointed.
This book surprised me. I love y’all’s books together and have read just about everyone. But the fact that he’s out with her trying to get together with her and in the same moment looking at the bartender and planning to screw her later was disgusting. I couldn’t even keep reading because he’s not mate worthy or material or any guy that I would want to love reading about or imagine being with. What a fail. I hope this doesn’t become a reoccurring thing.

What a wonderful read! Charlie and Lance make the sweetest couple . She’s feisty and determined to live by her”plan” while Lance is all alpha and dominant . They have to get through quite a few twists and turns to get their HEA, but it’s well worth the read! Loved it!
Ok so this was pretty good, but not as amazing as the first one. In the first one, the characters were immediately compelling and the story instantly exciting form page 1. In this book, the beginning bordered on gross and was hard to get through.
Lance is a player who goes full pick-up artist mode when he sees Charlie. His internal monologue was a bit disgusting, because every simple action or word was a calculated move with the single goal to get her in bed as fast as possible. It's super sleazy and a huge turn off. During the hook up, he gets the urge to mark her and realizes she's his true mate. To be fair, he instantly realizes he royally messed up. She wants nothing to do with him past a one night stand because he's a player...
And Charlie... Charlie was rigid and boring. She mentioned her plan 67884 times during the book. It seemed really naive and ridiculous. If he can't do his own taxes, he can't be "the one"? Get out of here. It was especially frustrating that she was giving Lance the all clear one day, then running away the next. You can't just agree to mate someone because you're happy in Cabo, then change your mind at the first sign of trouble...
But this is the kind of book where I hated both characters at first, but slowly started understanding them. Lance was deeply traumatized by his parents deaths and fell in the rebellious player role just as his brother fell into the serious role. He didn't think he would ever get a mate, so why not be a player and just have fun? Charlie never had stability growing up with soldier parents, always worrying about whether they'd make it home, always having to start at a new school every year. So much so, she has a pathological need for stability. A craving for a worry-free future, even at the cost of fun and passion.
Lance never quite hit the spot for me for me though, his rake personality was a big turn off. Always so suave and ready with the pick-up line, it wasn't my thing. I think it may partly be due to the new audiobook narrator. I'm so sad Benjamin Sands couldn't continue his excellent work on this series!! :( The new male narrator puts on this forced swagger voice that's meant to be seductive but comes out sleazy because it's too cocky, too honeyed. Lance is not my type to begin with, and the voice just made him extra gross even after he got over his man whore ways...
Rafe continues to be such an ass. After messing things up for Deke in book 1, in this one his overprotectiveness and judgement made Lance feel inadequate, like Rafe didn't trust him to do anything right. He was too busy berating Lance for the accidental pregnancy to be supportive - even in front of Charlie! I couldn't figure out where he was going with this. I get it you don't approve, but the baby is coming regardless and this isn't helping? I think Rafe is a deeply stressed and scared character who puts too much pressure on himself and I think that's what will be explored in his own book. But for now, he's just messing with everyone's heads with how he handles things and just like in book 1, the hurt that Rafe caused wasn't properly addressed in the end.
It seems like I'm complaining a lot, but this wasn't bad. The tropes and characters archetypes just weren't my cup of tea, so I didn't find it as fun as the first book. I'm excited for Adele's story next, and I'm hopeful that Rafe will be redeemed. Maybe Adele can make him less of an ass!
I was never a big fan of paranormal romance, though I did occasionally read them, and could review them fairly on their own merits. Then I read a book (and series) by Renee Rose and another author that I really enjoyed. So, when I saw the release of “Alpha’s Vow” I had to check it out. I am so glad I did, because Renee Rose and Lee Savino have given us an extremely entertaining story with the release of this book. I’m not going to enumerate too many plot points here because the book blurb already told you what you need to know about that. I’d rather write about the development of the 2 main characters.
Charlotte (known as Charlie) is a woman who grew up without a feeling of stability because of the careers of her parents, who were in the military. She likes to plan things with as much detail as possible because it gives her a feeling of control. Lance is former military, and a guy who now makes his living as a mercenary. He thrives on danger and throwing himself headfirst into whatever perilous situations arise. Plus, he’s a charming ladies’ man. Without having any clue that he’s a shifter (or that such people even exist), Charlie knows Lance is not the guy for her. On his end of things, Lance knows that his intense attraction to Charlie is illogical and impossible. But the heart wants what the heart wants and all that … They both have to change and mature in ways they hadn’t imagined when a one-night stand between them leaves her pregnant. Charlie must figure out that risky, uncertain and unplanned people and experiences can actually be perfect, while Lance has to realize that he is capable of being far more than the shallow playboy image he projects to the world. The journey of discovery they take separately and together is nicely done; It blends passion, compassion, fear, confidence, insecurity, doubt, faith, sadness, joy, humor, hope and love. Everything culminates in an ending that was perfect for Charlie and Lance.
There is an excellent array of interesting secondary characters who add interest and depth to the story. I thought this book was entertaining and the pages went by quickly. If you don’t typically read paranormal romance, I urge you to give this a try because it might really ‘shift’ your opinion. I somehow missed the first book in the series but it soon as I finished this one, I ordered that one right away and loaded it on my Kindle.
This is a wonderful read, great characters and story plot Charlotte Holland is just about to celebrate a Birthday she is never going to forget; she has decided to enjoy the quiet and the delightful scenery of the hot springs in her pre-dawn soak prior to her start of working day. Lance is military trained and also has the added advantage of being a wolf shifter who without a shadow of doubt has in the past been quite the ladies’ man who enjoys living and loving as many women as he fancied, however things may possibly be changing especially if his wolf has any say in the matter. When Lance decides that he is going to meet Charlie as she is having a small birthday drink at the local bar with a few girlfriends he does something he has never done before, he allowed her to drive his beloved Ducati motorcycle with him riding pillion. As the couple start to spend time together and they have their first extremely pleasurable night together neither of them could have envisioned that she would get pregnant and that he could have a family of his own if she would only believe that she was not just some one-night stand but to him and his mate is in fact his mate. This is a wonderful read and I assure you that once you start reading this wonderful book you will not be able to put it down until you reach the very last page and discover what the outcome will be. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
Thinking he’s nothing but a player, Charlie, whose grown up around military men puts her life plan of marrying a nice stable (aka boring) man on pause for a lil bit to explore one night of passion with Lance Lightfoot the former special forces soldier. Lance knowing Charlie is his mate needs to convince and prove to her that he’s more than the man she sees on the surface. Knowing he’s had a past of one night stands and random hookups isn’t helping his cause and his wolf is getting impatient. When they discover their night together has left behind a little surprise, Lance gets the opportunity he needs to let Charlie see he’s the right man for her. And knowing he needs to share the little secret of their unborn child being half wolf he knows he has his work cut out for him. With secrets revealed and the support of her friends, Charlie learns to see Lance in a new light.
Each time I read a new edition to the Alpha Series I find myself going back a rereading the previous stories. I love already having an interest in a character before their story comes out and this is the case with Alpha’s Vow. In each book Rose & Savino have made their supporting characters large enough that you want to see them have their own story. In Sadie & Dekes book (Alpha’s Moon) we get glimpses of the initial connection between Charlie & Lance. This book is full of hot, sexy & sweet moments and just complemented each and every book beforehand. A happily ever after with a lovely bonus chapter if you want to see a glimpse into their future. I cannot wait for Rafe and Adeles story.
I love Renee Rose and Lee Savino when they write together. The Shifter Ops series is an off shoot of the Bad Boy Alpha's Series. There are several offshoots of that series including one with vampires. Personally the wolf shifters are my favorites.
In this book you actually get to see a glimpse of one of the characters from Alpha's Temptation life now. Alpha's Temptation is the very first book in this world. You can start there or with any of the offshoot series.
Lance and Charlie are great characters. Charlie I totally get. It's easy to get caught up in your "life plan.". Lance on the other hand is sexy, laid back and seemingly care free. How they come together and complement each other is fun to read and also unique. In a lot of shifter books the hero is very dominant. Lance has that potential but he charms Charlie more with his ability to live in the moment yet he's incredibly sweet.
One of the things I love about Renee and Lee's writing is the richness of their characters. From the main characters to the quick side characters you get a very clear picture of who the characters are. No one is bland or two dimensional. Additionally a lot of backstory is packed in without overtaking the story. It's sprinkled here and there so by the end of the book you know so much about the characters without even realizing it. It's an amazing feet of writing considering this series includes books that can easily be a weekend read (and probably will be.)
