Amy's Forever Love

Rate this book
Can a basset hound, two kittens and twin girls succeed as matchmakers?

Even though Amy Broussard is their aunt, her twin little girls call her “mom.” In the midst of a harsh winter, Amy is helping build her Habitat for Humanity home, just the security she's always wanted for her girls. But one frigid evening on their way to the church potluck, she and her girls find two orphaned kittens.

And there she meets the local veterinarian and surprises him by volunteering to adopt the kittens on the spot, fulfilling another promise to her girls. The vet’s basset hound Bummer in turn surprises everyone by instantly “adopting” the two golden tabbies too!

From then on, like it or not, Amy and the vets’ lives intersect with the “help” of Bummer and the twins. Yet before love can bloom, both adults must work through a winter of heart-healing as family secrets and grudges are unraveled.

From a USA Today Bestselling author, a heartwarming story of love, faith and the power of forgiveness. And the joy of furry friends!

Lyn grew up loving books. Her favorite night of the week was Friday night, when the Bookmobile came to her neighborhood in Illinois. She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances!
This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Long years of rejection followed — as it does for most writers. Finally in 1997, Lyn got "the call." Her first book, Never Alone, was chosen to appear in the first year of the new Love Inspired line. Lyn has written many articles on writing and the emerging Christian Booksellers Assoc. (CBA) fiction market. In 2006, Lyn's book, Chloe, is a finalist for the RWA's RITA, the highest award in the romance genre in the inspirational category.
Now, Lyn spends her days writing books that show the power of divine as well as human love. Her nest is empty and she and her real life hero, her husband, have more and more time to spend together in their home on a lake in the lovely northwoods. And books are still dear to her heart.

I enjoyed this sweet story of new beginnings and second chances. Amy and Jake were both very likable characters and I thought that their interest in each other grew naturally. Amy’s twin girls were sweet and fun and their enthusiasm for animals and life in general kept the book lighthearted, even when Jake and Amy were occasionally dealing with things that threatened to bring them down.

Jake’s dad was very frustrating for a good portion of the book. I couldn’t understand why he treated Jake the way he did. I was glad to see growth in his character as the story continued.

Amy’s Forever Love is a nice start to a new series and I would recommend it to readers who enjoy contemporary romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Amy’s Forever Love by Lyn Cote
New Neighbors Lane Series Book One
Dr. Jake McLure is a veterinarian in Hope, Wisconsin. Life is busy. Fortunately, he found a new office manager, since the previous one left to start her family. The bad news is that he’s attracted to his new employee, but he doesn’t seem to be someone she’s attracted to in return. What he didn’t need is his dad coming to stay for a few weeks.
Amy Broussard is raising her twin nieces as her own. Bella and Beth are her life. What a praise it was when she found a daytime job, instead of the night job she had. And soon they’d have a new home, thanks to Habitat for Humanity. Only, with the bitter winter they were having, things were going slow.
Wonderful characters—both human and furry ones—and a story-line that can pull the reader in and keep you there.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, Lyn Cote, via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary and honest review. I loved this heartwarming romance between Amy and Jake. Amy is a single Mom to her twin seven year old nieces who she got custody of after her sister gave birth to them. Her sister used drugs and knew Amy would be the better Mom. Amy met Jake at a church social on a snowy night after she and the girls found two newborn kittens whose Mother had died. Jake's dog accepted the kittens like they were his so the antics of trying to keep him away from the kittens and the girls was a struggle. That is what brought Jake and Amy together. The characters were likeable and the story was a joy to read. I highly recommend this book.

Amazing story of Amy and her nieces, two kittens and a man named Jake.
Was great to see it all come together in spite of all the difficulties of how Amy and Jake had grown up and with associated difficulties. To see the hand of God there was great. It was a very believable story and I kept wanting to read more each time I opening book app.
The introduction of different characters like Brooke was very interesting and to see how they were able to put away their prejudices and discovered a lovely caring lady.
To see how Jake was able to have a good relationship with his Dad after many years was great to see. These things aren’t easy but the way it was worked into the story was great.
A great happy ending.

2.5

This would have been a 4 star rating except the longer I read, the more I felt like I was stuck in a whirlwind. I like my books with an ebb and flow that usually mimics real life. Instead, I got nonstop drama that even made me feel overwhelmed. It was like the author was getting off by making the main characters as miserable as possible. The twins, kittens/basset hound, and town's older people were the only enjoyable parts for me. I mean, if I don't like watching soap operas, then I sure as heck don't want to read about them. It was just too over the top, and I'd say unrealistic except that's why the word outlier exists.

I really enjoyed this story and the characters wrapped themselves around my heart! I especially loved the twins even though they seemed so mature for their age! Some of the words that came from their lips and in their actions will make you laugh but also wonder at times. The bloodhound belonging to the veterinarian, Bummer is so cute and annoying for his owner with a decision a dog makes! Lol lots of laughs, a few heartaches, and a romance in bloom make this another great story from this author!
I received a free download of this book from the publisher. This review is my own honest opinion.

You will love Bummer!
Amy and Jake's story was an engaging, heartwarming, and sweet romance. Lyn Cote has given us realistic characters that were written so well. The everyday homey feel was so nice the author had me at the kittens! Bummer may have been my favorite character. This is such a good book I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

A Simply Beautiful and touching story

What a thoroughly enjoyable story. This book grabs your heartstrings and just pulls you in for the entire reading. Great characters with multilayered personalities give the story an added dimension. You will get to meet the new Vet in town and fall in love with all of the pets that end up in the local shelter. In addition you are introduced to a darling pair of precocious twins with a matchmaking scheme being hatched up. A very enjoyable and fun read that will leave you with a few tears, but in the end - A happy, contented smile.

Who couldn't love a story with a basset hound that adopts 2 kittens & adorable twin girls? That's what this story brings. I really loved Bummer, the dog, & his motherly relationship with the kittens. Any good story must have a person that wants to cause problems. That person is Jakes's dad. A snowstorm breaks his mean streak & brings the change needed for Amy & Jake to get their HEA. A lovely story. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary review.

This is a delightful story, and I am so glad it is the start of a new series. A small town veterinarian, a clean romance, young, spunky twin girls and adorable animals make it a fun book to read. Even if you aren’t an animal lover, you will enjoy it. I am looking forward to the next one in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but a review was not required and the opinions expressed are my own.

Amy's Forever Love is a heartwarming, uplifting romance. I love everything about this book - the main characters, the nieces, Bummer "adopting" the cats and the story. This well written romance grabbed me on page one and did not let go. I was sorry to reach the end even though it is a perfect ending. If you want a sweet, heartwarming romance, do not miss this book!

I've read other books by Lyn Cote that are suspense-romances, but one is not a suspense. While this book and the others in this series are romances, they are more than that. This series focuses on a community and many of the same characters show up in later books.

This story is about Amy and her twin girls who are getting a Habitat for Humanity home, Jake who volunteers at her house, some orphaned kittens and a matchmaking basset hound. I loved meeting the various members of the community and watching Amy and Jake navigate their growing feelings.

A wonderful story!

I truly enjoyed the characters in this story because they were unique in their own way with their own struggles. The heavy stormy weather was so different from where I live but I could feel the cold with detailed discretion. Looking forward to the next book.

What a sweet story!
The characters were all great. There was very little keeping the apart but their own fears and insecurities that they still carried from childhood traumas. Oddly enough, those are part of what pulls them together.

I really enjoyed this story.

A book must be good when I am wishing it had not come to an end. I wanted more of their story. I loved the connection between humans and animals.
