Loved all the historical information in a fiction novel. I love when I actually learn things but am entertained by the story as well. Such an interesting novel with lots of twists and turns as the author goes deep into what happened with art and former SS officials after World War II. Great read!
Please note: I won this book in a GoodReads giveaway.
This book started with a really interesting premise, but the execution wasn’t on point. This book could have benefited from a couple of good writer’s workshops.
The good: real interesting premise and set up. The characters were (for the most part) developed. I especially enjoyed Kathy and Henri. Oscar was my favorite. Very cool look at the recovery of stolen art and hunting down of WW II war criminals.
The not so good: bloated with too many unnecessary scenes. Needed to be workshopped and pass through another round of editing. Couldn’t identify when the story took place (originally thought late 60s /early 70s or as late as mid-70s, but context clues indicate the story takes place in the mid-80s - which doesn’t make sense for Kathy’s character). Too early reveal of twists to the audience.
