Malice

For as long as I can remember, I’ve only felt one thing—hatred.

No other emotion has ever lived within the confines of my soul. On many occasions I’ve been told I have no soul. Not that I give a damn. It only means I won’t get burned. Growing up I saw the people closest to me get hurt by those who were important to them. It showed me that feelings were overrated. It worked fine until that one day, the day she walked in. I wasn’t prepared for what it meant when she walked through my clubhouse door. One look at her and I knew I’d do anything to keep her safe. For so long I’ve felt hatred, but this woman makes me feel something else—fire.

STORY:
I found Malice’s story likable. I think why I didn’t love it, was the way Malice’s story played out in the beginning with Willow. By 70% I became really involved with all that that was unfolding with Malice’s family. I also got a lot of intensity from Hammer’s story, but I don’t feel Malice’s was as intense.

CHEMISTRY:
This was a novella and their physical chemistry was ok, would love to get more. I found that with this author I love her for her plots and storyline and the physical is always ok for me.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I am excited for Gunner’s story. The way this ended makes me anticipate Gunner and Quinn’s story.

Overall, likable plot, I wanted more intensity from Malice because in Hammer’s story, he was so bad ***.

✰✰Triggers: torture scene

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

It’s so hard for me not to take to fb to rant about these books on the actual authors page. Her earlier stuff had a flow to it and substantial plot and depth. It seems as these books and the series extended the work has become sooooo choppy and little effort at an original plot line. I mean, I get it, they are fighting war across multiple series, so you can’t deviate that far, but before there was at least a little build up. Now just because two characters were introduced in the last book, we cut out all the depth and emotion? Also, enough with the multiple authors in the same series. If that’s how your writing it, include it at the end of the book. And don’t release books as a “holiday pack” that is crucial to story lines (ravens books). I want to love these books so much because they have so much potential, but they aren’t complete books. Some of them don’t even have the sub-conflict resolved by the end. Just write longer, less choppy books and stop cutting out all the good stuff in between.

WOW!!! Drama Abounds

This book in the Devils Riot MC series has me hooked all over again. After Malice and Willow had their passionate night together Malice had treated Willow like a d*ck. Willow can't stand it and leaves to live with her grandfather but she had a secret of her own. Everything makes more sense when we found out about Malice's family.

I loved Malice and Willow's story because it was full of ups and downs, twists and turns and their chemistry was hot. The club is going to war and some may have already become a causality. I can't wait to see what comes next with the men from Devils Riot MC!!

This is the second book in the series, and I do recommend reading them in order. Willow and Malice fall for each other and Willow gets pregnant. Instead of telling him she runs to her grandfather’s farm. Will they find their way back to each other? Fast paced read with loads of drama, suspense and emotion. Great characters with lots of depth and an entertaining story. Looking forward to more. I liked it.

Great Potential in the Storyline, but Needs Better Editing
I enjoy MC romances, including some of the darker, grittier ones with subplots going on that, in my humble opinion, actually enhance the love story rather than detracting from it. I mean, what better way to appreciate the good than to experience the bad right along with it? I think it makes the hard-won HEA that much more meaningful. In E.C. Land’s “Malice’s Soul,” the second book in her Devil’s Riot MC series, there is quite a bit going on, but at the heart of it is a love story between Mattox “Malice” Thyne, the older, sinfully sexy, alpha VP of the DRMC, and young, fairylike beauty Willow Swann. This story had great potential: the subplot was good, there was an element of danger that was authentic and suspenseful, and the whole cast of characters (male and female alike) was a ragtag family of misfits that were believable, loyal, and protective. Unfortunately, two things took away from the enjoyment of the story for me. First, although the book could technically be considered a standalone, there were so many references to past events (I’m assuming from the first book since I’ve not yet read it) that I found myself confused, and this sometimes led me to become puzzled by a character’s thought process or reaction to a situation. The other thing – and this was probably what distracted me the most – was that the book needed another round of copyediting and/or proofreading. There were numerous typos, grammatical errors, and punctuation issues, as well as several points where word choice seemed awkward and didn’t flow well with the rest of the story. Stuff like that tends to take away from the reading experience for me, so it was a bit of a bummer.

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
This is book two of the series, I have since bought book one but both books read as standalone books so not to worry you won’t miss out on much, I just happen to like this book. Malice is a toured soul, inflicting pain is his specialty, love makes you week, trust isn’t something he can afford, and he learned all of this from his family. He found family in his MC brothers. Willow worked at a coffee shop owned when she was kidnapped and saved by Devil’s Riot MC where she developed a crush on the man who saved her Malice (Mattox) He thinks/feels she is too young for him, but chemistry didn’t get the message because they ended up having a one nightstand that neither of them forgot or didn’t think about while apart. But that one night he gave a piece of himself that would be due in a few months when she attempts to tell him she sees him with one of the club girls, so she just walks away. She heads to the one home she knew her grandfather’s home never realizing Malice would even notice her missing. What happens when he goes to get her from her grandfather, is her grandfather this little old man or something more and does Malice get her back do they get happiness?

Let's meet Malice from the DRMC Southeast chapter and well I gotta say that I am going to have a love-hate relationship with this chapter. At the same time I just want to laugh at the men. So Malice has one wicked past. He is definitely an older guy and has seen a lot in his day. Due to what he dealt with growing up he has decided he does not want a family except for his brothers. He does not want to subject any woman or child he has to his family. It is too big of a risk. However, he did not expect Willow who came into his life. She was unexpected and something stirs inside him. He is not sure what it is. Willow is a sweet and caring woman. Growing up for her was not as bad as Malice's but it is connected in some way. One night with Willow and everything changes. He fights himself about how he feels about her and there are moments when you want to yell at him for his stupidity. He makes up for it though when it comes to the surprise Willow has for him. When you get to the end you get a happy for now ending but just know that the DRMC Southeast story is about to get heavy. I am so excited to see how this series will go.

Shook, I tell ya, just shook. I'm glad the characters brought up the fact that someone is related to someone else in alk these clubs. What rattled me was in this boom, Malice was not playing. He straight up took the enemy out. The only thing I didn't get is why he didn't take his father out at the same time. That will come back to bite him in the a$$ later down the road.

I really wanted to like this book as E.C. Land is one of my favourites, but unfortunately I just couldn’t get into the story.
One sentence Malice is wanting to take her back to the club house and claim her and the next one he is accusing her of getting knocked up?
Hopefully the others in the series pick up.

Shallow

This just really fell flat. There really wasn’t enough meat on the bones in this book. Characters didn’t spark with each other - nor with me for that matter.

Malice is the vice-president of the Devil's Right Southeast MC.Finding his sisters after they committed suicide affected him deeply. As soon as he was old enough he broke with his psychotic family but he knows anyone he cares about will become a target for them.

Willow works at a coffee shop while going to college. She grew up in her grandfather's militia compound after her mother and step-father tried to sell her to a sex trafficking ring.

Willow came into Malice's orbit after she was kidnapped by her boss's crazy family. They had a connection but after their first night together he pushed her away, to keep her safe from his family but giving her no explanation. Upset and needing to figure out her next steps she returns home to her grandfather. When the Devil's Riot MC tracks her down, Malice arrives to convince her to return home until she drops a bombshell that has him pushing her away again.

I liked reading about this couple, the cameos from other books and her grandfather. I thought the beginning and ending were very engaging but it seemed to skip over the actual moments when they fell in love with each other. We go from his cutting her out of his life, to events happening that has him demanding she be in his life and them loving each other. Don't get me wrong once they were together they were awesome and I loved them as a couple. You really have to accept instant love to not go squirrely needing the details.

Malice had determined that in order to save anyone he loved from his malicious family, he would remove himself from anyone he could come to care about. It worked, until it didn't anymore. Unfortunately, Malice didn't account for the appearance of Willow, or the wreckage falling for her would make of his plan. All it took was one night to change his life forever.

Willow didn't plan on falling for Malice. She had been raised by her grandfather in a conservative community. She had let him in, only to be shattered by his indifference. Kicking her wounded heart, she did the only thing that she thought she could - she went back to her childhood home to heal and raise her child.

Malice's intention to protect Willow from his family and their vile friends only brings their sights to Willow and their child. His determination to protect Willow means only one thing : they will have to kill him to take the love of his life and their children from him. Malice is about to teach his enemies why his brothers gave him that name, and they will learn it the hard way.

E. C. Land has continued the awesome storytelling tradition found in her Devils Riot series with this book. That she brings in characters introduced in past stories only strengthens the intensity and reach of this one. Hammer and Avery's tale is entwined with Malice and Willow's saga. The ending only brings anticipation for the next chapter. I am totally not ashamed to say that I read this book three times before setting down to write this review.

Malice, his name embodies his desire to inflicted pain. To love someone is a weakness; you can't trust anyone. He learned this growing up his family. Willow works at Rise-N-Shine Coffee for Avery and she is taking classes. At least she did until one night with Malice. The morning after he was gone, thinking being away from him will protect her from his family. Now fleeing the clubhouse to get away from him, Willow returns home to where she grew up. Will Malice get his head and heart on straight? He better because she has a surprise.

Malice's Soul is book 2 of the Devils Riot MC by E.C. Land. This book needs to be read as part of the series to make sense of the ongoing plot. This story is tight and moves quickly. Willow is such an honest, innocent soul. We can see this as she dances in the rain. Malice undergoes a huge transformation as he opens his heart. His protectiveness explodes for those he loves. The story has action, drama, a little suspense and romance. The twists will hold your attention. The storyline about the Supreme Masters is firing up to be all out war. Can't wait.

This book builds the Credibility this author has to weave a tale that is brutal and beautiful. It is no secret that I adore this author! I am so enamored with Miss Land and all she has done and will continue to follow her through it all good, bad, beautiful and the ugly! Shutting down does not mean safety. Pushing away the one light that could brighten your soul is not only dangerous but provides the ugly to step in and destroy what you see as light only to destroy it from being with you. Taking everything you hold dear and manipulating it to do everything evil. The Devils Riot plays with the devil himself and run for the hills because you mess with one you mess with the whole of Hell! The Devil NEVER forgives and He NEVER forgets! The only saving grace is if you have a Devil who cares and wants that makes him not only dangerous but deadly! So get ready to see what Malice has in store you will not be sorry that you did! Get Ready to take on The Devils Riot MC, they will have you on your knees begging for whatever the Devil has to deliver!

Another great MC instalment in EC Lands interlinked multi series world.

Malice is the second in this particular series after Hammers story earlier in the year.
I love how all the characters are present in the stories, we even see characters from the other series which firms up how broad this world is that the author has built.

Malice is a man with demons, and a family that no one would wish to be a part of. Because of this he has pushed Willow away, and when he discovered her news it forces him to push her away even more till he finds out she is in a more desperate state than he originally thought.

I found willow to be a mildly weak character, though I didn’t love her any less for this. She was extremely forgiving of Malice, even when really he didn’t deserve it.

I found the story segues into body image to be strong positive messaging and enjoyed following the budding and developing romance to the HEA conclusion

Another awesome book in this relatively new series by EC Land. Malice basically lives up to his name with his alphaness and larger than life character. Willow on the other hand is a little more reserved and although they share one night of passion Malice was a total a jerk to Willow because he felt that he needed to protect her from himself so Willow left and went to live with her grandfather only Malice had left her with a little present. Some drama follows willow and Malice finds out what is going on so he decides to find Willow only to discover she is pregnant. These two characters work out their issues but once the babies are born an attempt is made on their life which brings the overprotective side of Malice to the forefront. Loved these characters and meeting all the new characters of this MC and I loved that could show her tough side also. A great series that I am enjoying very much and cannot wait for the next book by EC Land.

Malice is a tough guy who has shut himself off due to his past, Willow is a bit naïve due to her upbringing. After one hot night, Malice walks away and Willow is shattered and trying to come to grips with her new reality. She disappears and heads back home to hide. Malice goes after her but then walks away again to protect her from his family. When Willow gets in trouble, he comes to her rescue and steps up to the plate and takes on his responsibilities. There is a lot of back and forth in this book, Willow isn't the strong female character I usually prefer and gives into Malice without much fight. I understand Malice's dilemma, however, he comes off a bit callous and a bit of an a**. There is a several month gap in the story that a check-in would've helped fill in some of the story and possibly helped the characters a bit. This is not my favorite book but needs to be read in order to follow the plot arc that runs through several of the MC series.

He will live up to his name to keep her safe and protected

Malice's Soul is the second book in the Devil's Riot MC: Southeast series and is a quick and exciting read. The story is about Willow and Malice and it has enough twists and intensity to make your heart beat hard and your stomach flip a few times. Malice may be a closed off man who has no feelings but when he is with Willow she breaks him open like a nut to reveal his sweet and smooth heart. However, he still has to protect and without telling her why he cuts her out which breaks her heart. Although their time together may have been short it was intense and left her with a bonus present. Eight months later and Malice is back to protect Willow and their bonus from anyone who would even attempt to do them harm. He is a man who is going to live up to his name against those that want to hurt him in any way they can.

This is a great series of MC dark romances that can be read as standalones. After reading one, you'll probably want to read the rest because of the connections between these multi-layered characters. This story is book 2 for the South East chapter of the Devil's Riot MC. It features the VP, Malice, and the woman he's trying to keep safe by keeping his distance. Willow goes home because she thinks Malice doesn't want her. Nothing could be further from the truth. When Malice realizes his mistake, will Willow give him a second chance? There are so many things to like about this story - good plot, Willow's relationship with her grandfather, MC brotherhood, high levels of care & protection, action & retribution and the way Malice deals with any insecurities & body issues that Willow has. Very entertaining, emotional and passionate! 5 stars

First let me say that E C Land's books do need to be read in order and many of the different series cross over so I would recommend that everything be read not just one series This isn't a problem as she build superb worlds that totally draw you in

Malice was raised by the family from hell and he wants nothing to do with them consequently he builds no attachments in life because he is worried that his family will use them against him the only problem is that he spends one night with Willow and he wants to change that but he knows that he can't so he turns his back on her in fact he is quite horrid Willow is devastated and retreats to her safe place her grand fathers farm the only problem is she has taken a little piece of Malice with her. When Malice finds that he can't forget her he goes to get her back and his life and hers appear to have a common past Can they build a future You will have to read to see

Poor Willow

I enjoyed this book and the overall series of the Devils Riot MC. I don’t know how to feel about Malice. I was devastated by his actions and how he treated Willow. Why couldn’t he have told her his truth upfront because ultimately the truth was revealed to her by him. He put Willow through undue stress and heartache for no good reason. Malice took her virginity and was the biggest jerk and it continued for far too long. It was Quinn who won the character of the book award. She stood up for Willow. Also Willow’s grandfather was a winner. Yes the author wrote Malice to be better and more loving after he realized that his actions were crap. Willow should have made him sweat a little bit because he deserved it. Willow is like a sweetheart and she just took him back and gave Malice her whole heart. Again it’s a good book but it is so frustrating to read Malice’s actions without wanting to scream at him. Read On!

After her kidnapping ordeal and the one night with the man she fell hard for but pushed her away, Willow decides to head back home, to her grandfathers farm for a new start, even though she wont be alone in it. Malice's past made it hard for him to trust or allow anyone to get close to him, until Willow came along, she brought light to his dark soul but he couldn't face putting her in danger by becoming his weakness and pushed her away. But fate has other ideas and when danger calls Malice will protect whats his with all he has, so history wont repeat itself. This is well written with a great story line that has you hooked from the beginning! The characters come to life with an array of emotions making you feel every heart stopping moment!

Willow worked at a coffee shop owned by Avery, was kidnapped and saved by Devil's Riot M/C...where she developed a crush on Malice, AKA Mattox. He felt he was too old for her, but they did have a one-night stand, which resulted in unplanned baby...she was going to tell him about it when she sees him with a club-whore...so she turns around and leaves. She goes to her grandfather's house, since she grew up on his farm....Malice finds out she left and he and couple of other's go after her. But her grandfather in not the elderly farmer all believe him to be and Malice left his bad news family, cutting them from his life...so you will need to read this latest segment of Devil's Riot Southeast M/C to see what happens...I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Malice gets what he wants, and right now it is Willow, at least for one night. But one time is all it takes, and having sex with Willow comes with consequences when she is a virgin and you don't use protection. In their case, it's triplets. With Malice's one and done attitude, Willow runs home to her Grandfather, but things take a turn and not in a good way, as protection is in order from the club's enemies. Bringing Willow and the babies home for their protection, the bonding and the love between them will shine as the club works to keep everyone safe. With the drama and suspense of their story, they do find a hea, but readers can expect the club's enemies, the Supreme Masters, will be making trouble for the club in the future. **I was gifted "Malice's Soul" via Bookspout, leaving my review based on my reading.** 5 Stars!

I found myself wanting to shake Malice (Mattox) until his teeth rattled for the first 5 chapters of the book. But when that man got his head out of his posterior, I fell a little for this alpha. Malice acted on his attraction to Willow one time, and in this case, once was enough. The morning after, he felt guilty and pulled away, acted like a jerk, and crushed Willow. Willow is a sweet, loving, innocent, but strong, and determined women. She was determined to make her baby (babies) lives the best they could be with or without their father. This book was well paced, super fast read, steamy, had ups and downs, twists and turns, and some pretty awful baddies. The rest of this series will be awesome if E.C. Land can keep up the pace of these first two books!! Great Read

This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and is Malice and Willow’s story. Malice is tormented by his past and is the clubs VP, and he classes his brothers as his only family rather than the dysfunctional one he was brought up with. Willow has had a tough life as well and she has a crush on Malice after she was kidnapped and rescued by the Devil’s Riot MC, and after they spend a passionate night together, she is left heartbroken by his actions and returns to her home with her grandfather, carrying with her a secret. What will Malice do when he finds out that she has left? This is a well written story which is dark, raw, gritty, and intense, with twists, action, vengeance, danger, loyalty, brotherhood, and love. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This is the 2nd book in the Devil's Riot MC southeast chapter series...it is the story of Malice and Willow and is a great addition to the series. Malice feels he has no soul...he wants Willow but know's that he is no good for her. Willow has wanted Malice from the first time she met him, they get together after the fire at Avery's shop and after he pushes her away. Throws the club girls in her face to get his point across. Willow can't take it anymore and decides she needs a change so she packs up and moves back home to her grandfather's farm. She soon finds out she didn't go alone...Will Malice eventually pull his head out of his behind and go get the woman that he loves? I loved really Willow's grandfather and how he stands up to Malice for his granddaughter.

Oh my gosh, this series is seriously heating up! Malice or Maddox is a total alpha and also a little bit of a jerk until he gets his priorities right, then he’s swoon worthy! Willow surprised me. She started out a little subdued but can be a little tiger when the people she loves are threatened...love her! There’s so much going on in this story and so many great characters. Willow and Malice and their not so little family are great. There are also so many side characters that are begging for stories, can’t wait to see if we get them. Exciting and action packed with just enough mystery and romance to catch and keep your attention. Another definite winner...thanks Ms. Land, you’ve done it again!
