An experiment brought them together; their instinctive reflexes pull them closer. BONUS : Free Prequel Inside : "Experiment" After an emergency leaves Chris without a home for a few days, he is desperate to find somewhere to crash. Every hotel is booked. Every friend is busy. As a last resort, he contacts Mina, the girl he can’t seem to forget. Mina’s roommate is leaving her with an empty room. As soon as the door closes, Chris calls in need of a place to sleep. Lucky for him, she’s willing to have him over. In an attempt to lay down some ground rules, this couple can’t seem to keep their hands off each other, as if it is a reflex to be together. Is this going to end in disaster or can those rules be their saving grace?
A Fling Or True Love This is the first book in the new My Best Friend's Ex Romance Series. Wow what a great start to the series. Mina and Chris met at her best friend Hannah's birthday party and there was an instant attraction. Mina was a little worried since he was Hannah's ex, but she said 'go for it'. So they had a little fling but neither were interested in falling in love or having a long term relationship. When he has a kitchen fire he comes and stays in her spare room. It doesn't take long for things to heat up. Sorta like a reflex they are just drawn to each other. They can't keep their hands off the other. Are they falling in love? Or is it just sexual chemistry? This was a cute story but it was more of a novella. There was a lot of steam packed into this book. The characters were likable and the story line was steamy. I read a free arc via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
I enjoyed the prequel and this first part of Mina and Chris story and I am curious to find out if this is just a fling or if it evolves to something more.
I received an advanced copy from the author and this is my honest review.
This book comes in installments. I'm really enjoying this fast paced read! Mina and Chris are great together. The question remains, will they succeed being more?
I wanted to like this book because I’m on the author’s ARC team and I’d love to be able to praise it BUT this book is not for me for a couple reasons.
The plot is about Mina and Chris meeting at a mutual friend’s birthday party and instantly having a connection. Mina is unsure at first because Chris dated this mutual friend (can’t remember her name, sorry) but her friend assures her that it was just a fling so she goes for it. This all takes place in the prequel, Experiment. In Reflex, Chris accidentally starts a fire in his kitchen and needs a place to stay for a few days and since Mina’s roommate just moved out, she’s happy to oblige.
First off, this is NOT a complete story and I absolutely can’t stand that especially when it’s such a short story. Unless this series is on KU, I wouldn’t ever pay for something like this because the second it gets good, it ends. Secondly, there’s a part in this story that really made me hate Chris because he asks Mina if his booty call can come over. WHAT?!? I get it’s casual between Mina and him but he’s staying at her house! It’s just in bad taste for a supposed rom com especially because after that Mina and him hook up. To me, that makes her look like she has no respect for herself and I like strong females in books like this, not doormats. Therefore, I am not sure this series is right for me although it seems I am in the minority. (on Amazon)
