Two darkly domineering alpha males. One sets my body on fire. The other makes me tremble. And they swear they won’t let me go.
My ordinary life as a college sophomore becomes extraordinary when Joseph storms into my world and sweeps me off my feet. Our intense connection seems too impossible to be real, like a wonderful dream.
Until it becomes a nightmare.
Drugged. Kidnapped.
When I wake up, I find myself trapped in the arms of the man who was supposed to be my fierce protector. My sweet first love is a criminal, the son of a powerful mafia boss. And his best friend Marco—the terrifying, heavily-muscled man who abducted me—is a brutal enforcer.
They say they can't let me go, or their enemies might hurt me.
Despite everything, my heart still belongs to Joseph, and I can’t help surrendering to the fiery chemistry between us.
Marco’s rigid rules infuriate me, but his steady onyx stare and stern orders make something darker than anger burn low in my belly.
They swear they’ve kidnapped me for my own protection, but will staying close to my alluring criminal captors put me in more danger than ever?

For a book called Mafia Captive, there is very little mafia stuff. When I read a book that has a title like this and and synopsis that talks about a character being kidnapped, I'm expecting a romance that has a fast moving plot and external conflict. This book has so little plot. There is nothing that keeps this story moving or keeps me reading. I was so bored! The first part of this also felt very disconnected from the second half. We are told Ashlyn is in danger but none of that is shown on page until the very end. I also could not suspend my disbelief enough to believe that Joseph and Ashlyn would be hung up on each other to the point they're both miserable when separated after just two weeks. I think this is because we only read two sex scenes with them, which I thought were only fine, before the separation and then there is a time jump. This was a consistent problem with this book. The characters say they're in love, but we never see them fall in love. Joseph thinks a lot about his violent tendencies but we never really see any of that. Joseph talks about needing to run away and have a normal life but we never see exactly what drove him a way. All these things made it so much more difficult to get into and enjoy the story. One of my other problems is that Ashlyn is so scared and uncomfortable, especially of Marco, who I believe is supposed to be the other love interest, that it actually was not fun for me to read. I don't usually like a character being genuinly afraid of a love interest in the way it was here where I couldn't even see any affection between Ashlyn and Marco. It seems like a lot of people like this book and I'm happy for them but this once didn't work for me.
OMG , this author is killing me! I love the way she spins these words and gives me the best tales ever! These characters are amazing and I am officially addicted! Joseph , Marco and Ashlyn have a story that will pull at your heartstrings and give you the best ride if your life.
Joseph , being a teacher knows that falling for his student won't do him any good. But that does not stop him from stealing glances at Ashlyn. Enter his friend Marco , and things go so steamy! These three are fire and so very perfect.
But there are a lot of hidden enemies that they need to be careful of! A story full of secrets and lies and I loved it so much! Highly reccomended.
Mafia Captive wasn't what I expected at all. I thought I was going to get a hardcore mafia triangle romance but instead, I got a slower burn story with a college student that was kind of childish and a mafia boss that wasn't as strong I as thought he should be. That is why I went down a star.
Joseph has left the mafia life and is hiding out in a college town when he meets Ashlyn. It is almost love at first sight. When these two are just getting to know each other Joseph disappears and Ashlyn is left with a broken heart.
Marco kidnaps Ashlyn and brings her back to Joseph so that she can find out who he really is. Needless to say, she does not take it well. This is when I start to have problems with her and even Joseph. He becomes weak and she becomes a whiner. Marco is the only one I really enjoy while reading this part of the story.
I did finish this story and move on to the other since the story is moving along and you really do want to know what is going to happen next.
H is working in a bar where he regularly sees college Sophmore, h.
When she is accosted by a fellow student, H steps in and begin a relationship. He’d been watching her from a distance but helping her out gave him the push he needed to take the first step.
It turns out that H has been running from his old life in the mafia and was in hiding.
His best friend finds him and takes him back home.
H is miserable without h so best friend kidnaps h and brings her to H.
Both Hs are attracted to h and by end of book, they are both in a relationship with her. Each wanting a different type of relationship with her.
This was a great first book of this trilogy. The dynamic between the two and then three of them was spine tingling. I couldn't get enough. Hot, provocative moments with a splash of secrets and danger... yeah, I loved it!
This one starts off pretty quickly with Ashlyn and Joseph meeting in a college town (her being a Sophomore student) and he wanted to get away from his life (family is in the Mafia). Its instant attraction. Then Joseph left her and Marco (Joseph's enforcer) kidnaps Ashlyn and bring her back to Joseph. I really like all of the POVs and this was one was a good beginning to the series. I plan on reading the next one.
Narrated by: Michelle Price, Scott Rose, Zachary Zaba they all did a great job for their characters and I enjoyed their voices.
I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
It's getting hot in here, so take out all your clothes. WOOOOOW, HOT HOT HOT. The sexual tension in this makes me hot for the next one. Definitely a more romance focused plotline rather than action, not complaining.
The read picks up quick and straight into it. They aren't playing. I definitely want to see a bit more personality in the characters. I can't wait to see where it goes and hopefully a little more action.
“Well, I’m not a boy. I want to treat you how you deserve to be treated. You need to let me.”

Overall Opinion:
Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Ashlyn and Joseph's story. Ashlyn is a sophomore at Harvard, Joseph is a few years older and a bartender in a nearby bar. There is a scorching chemistry between them, but Ashlyn is too shy to act upon it, and Joseph is convinced she is too pure for him, so he doesn't take the first step either. When a classmate harasses Ashlyn, Joseph can't stand by anymore; he intervenes, drives her home, and kisses her. Their hookups evolve into something more until Joseph's past comes up in the form of his best friend, Marco. Joseph leaves Ashlyn without an explanation, and they are separated until her safety is threatened. Then, Marco kidnaps Ashlyn and brings her to NY, where he and Joseph can keep her safe.
Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Ashlyn, Joseph and Marco's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good, I never skimmed
Instalove: NO There is a chemistry between Ashlyn and Joseph from the moment they met, but neither of them acts upon it for a couple of months. When Marco and Ashlyn meet, he intimidates her, and she immediately recognises he has a dark side. She is scared of him. Nothing happens between H2 and h in this book.
H1 (Joseph) rating: 3.5 stars. I liked him. He has a good heart and, because Ashlyn is so innocent, tries to hide his dominant nature. Occasionally he reveals a weak dominant streak, but overall he is gentle, kind and patient with her.
H2 (Marco) rating: 3 stars. I liked him. He only appears halfway through the book. He is the one who convinces Joseph to return to NY and to leave his girlfriend behind. Later, after Ashlyn's safety is threatened, he kidnaps her and brings her to his estate in NY, where he and Joseph can protect her. He has a dark side and does not try to hide it.
h (Ashlyn) rating: 2 stars. I liked her initially, but once she was in NY, she started acting like a spoiled little brat. She lacks the maturity of a college student and can not hide her entitled upbringing. She acted like a 16-year-old spoiled little princess (especially towards H2) and started to get on my nerves. I hope she will grow up in the next books.
Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed
Heat level: Hot. H1 and h have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.
Descriptive sex: Yes
Safe sex: Yes, use of condom. No reference to testing, STD or birth control in this book
OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: YES
Sex scene with OW or OM: NO
Cheating: NO
Separation:
Closure: kind of a cliffhanger.
Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Son of a mafia don, Joseph longs to escape that life. He thinks he has when he runs away from NYC and becomes a bartender in Cambridge Massachusetts. There he meets Ashlyn whose innocence and sensuality attract him like no other. And Ashlyn also falls for him. But their ideal is broken when Joseph Enemies track them down and to keep the woman he loves safe he and his best friend Marco abduct her… And yeah.
-
So this book is a little slow going. It takes the time to develop Joseph and Ashlin’s relationship and show that there is a connection between the two of them. I didn’t mind it but it does mean that the abduction doesn’t happen until close to the halfway point.
The lighting is actually well done and the sex is very hot. It’s definitely edging into BDSM territory but it doesn’t quite get there yet. It sounds like the later books will get much more into BDSM than this book. The Ménage is hinted at in this book but it doesn’t actually happen. And I think it’s important to know that going in.
Ashlyn is a little TSTL. And while it goes Well with her being innocent and naïve, it still is a little bit annoying. Especially since she keeps poking the starfish when it’s clear that her actions aren’t going to get her what she wants.
Joseph is OK. And it’s Joseph that action is the reason why I’m still knocking down stars. A lot of his actions aren’t well thought out. If a guide to TSTL Joseph would be. He bothered me a lot because he is so obsessive with Ashlyn. And obsession is not sexy. It’s objectifying and it’s dangerous. While there are aspects of him that I didn’t mind but in all I had a lot of issues with his character.
I actually liked Marco. He doesn’t try to be anything other than who he is and I respect that. I also respect that he knows what he wants but he has honor and is willing to step to the side if that’s what his best friend means. I also like that Marco is willing to make the hard decisions when both Joseph and Ashlyn waffle.
The plot, what there is of it, is very thin on the ground. And it’s clear that this book is part of an over arcing series. The action and the conflict doesn’t really come to fruition until very late in the book and it’s the other reason why the book is getting knocked down a star.
I’m not sure if I’m going to continue with the series or not. Part of me is intriguing part of me is not. That’s the biggest reason why I’m going to give this…
Look, it wasn't the best... It wasn't the worst. Mafia can get like that, it's hit or miss really but this one sat right in the middle of me not really enjoying it to sometimes being like HOLY heck okay this is what's going on.
Some of the quotes i took away from the book with my impressions:
1. This description makes me UNCOMFORTABLE, i love an age gap but i dont love when the MC is constantly referred to as "innocent" it makes me feel uneasy - I knew I was dangerously close to crossing a line. I shouldn’t touch her: the barely legal, innocent angel who’d captivated my attention from the first moment her lovely blue eyes had met mine.
2. Well - my goodness gracious me.. - “What are you going to do to me?” I asked, more intrigued than disconcerted by his command. He dipped his head toward me, and his teeth grazed along the shell of my ear. “Tease you. Torment you. Make you beg and scream my name.” He sucked on my earlobe, nipping at it gently. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you, angel? Tell me.”
That's all i'm going to give, because really.. the MC being referred to as 'innocent' the entire way through, even if she's not necessarily 'innocent' in the whole scheme of things, but just is innocent in comparison to the men, it's still not a vibe for me.
Mafia Captive by Julia Sykes is a ménage mafia romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Michelle Price, Scott Rose, and Zachary Zaba. This is the first book in the Mafia Ménage Trilogy.
This is the first book of Julia's that I have read, and it won't be my last. I am liking the relationship that is blooming between Ashlyn, Joseph, and Marco. I can't wait to see how it will progress over the course of the series. I liked that we got all of their points of views throughout the book.
The book ended on a cliffhanger which wasn't a surprise since it's the first book in the series. I can't wait for the next book The Daddy and The Dom to be released on audio so I can get more of their story.
Michelle, Scott, and Zachary did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like ménage romances, captive romances, or mafia romances.
Ok, so first let me say that I have only read a few Menage themed books....they're typically not my style, but I do enjoy a good Mafia themed book! I decided to give this a try (it was a suggested read after I had finished another book) and WOW am I glad that I decided to give this a try !! I loved the concept of the book: Joseph, a member of a powerful Mafia family doesn't want that life anymore and takes a job as a bartender in a college town. He falls in love with a student, Ashlyn that he tries to resist but becomes involved with her anyway and by doing so has put her in danger from his family and their enemies. Enter Marco Joseph's best friend and also a member of the same crime family. He finds Joseph and brings him back into the "family" and later returns to take Ashlyn (by drugging and kidnapping her) to reunite her with Joseph. Marco and Joseph convince Ashlyn that her life is in danger and that they will protect her. The push and pull between the characters, the anticipation of a relationship between the three of them, and the actual romance between Joseph and Ashlyn ...SCORCHING 🔥🔥🔥JUST WOW!! This book is well written and a quick read that does end with a cliffhanger, however it will NOT disappoint!! READ THIS BOOK! READ THIS BOOK! READ THIS BOOK! Julia Sykes, I started reading this book unfamiliar with you and finished book #1 with a new favorite author! Off now to read book #2 📚😀
Tropes: enemies to lovers, harem reverse, dark secret Hot: 🔥🔥🔥🔥/5 Plot twist: 😧😧/5 Pov: 1st person 🙎♀️🙍♂️🙍♂️
Interesting storyline just wish the backstory on Joseph was more developed and the story in general. May read the next two books in the series just to find out what happens next
Looooved this one!! Loooooved it!! Hit ALL my buttons: mesmerizing intense ALPHA males, fascinating plot, excellent writing that effortlessly pulled me into Ashlyn's journey with Joseph & Marco (oh, that Marco, I love him sooooo!!). Simply stellar & I could NOT put it down. Cannot wait for the next story in this series!!
⭐️⭐️ - For a book with two men on the cover and “mafia” in the title, there was very little mafia and even less MFM in this book - I get that it’s a trilogy but I stronglyyyyy think it could’ve just been one book. - Ashlyn is a college sophomore at Harvard and has a crush on the hot bartender (Joseph) at the dive bar she and her bestie frequent - the tension is palpable but she’s too shy to make a move. One night, a frat bro corners her and won’t let go of her arm when her bartender crush saves the day. They quickly fall into a fast and deep romance… until one day he’s mysteriously whisked away by a domineering man in all black. A month later, Ashlyn wakes up in a strange room in a strange house after being drugged and kidnapped, only to find out that the same domineering man that made Joseph leave her is the one that kidnapped her… and brought her back to Joseph. - Other than brief mentions of Joseph and Marco (the stranger) being in “the mafia” and being “mobsters,” we don’t really see any of the inner workings… which is fine, I guess, but also leaves me wondering why I care about it at all. There’s also no MFM in this book so don’t let the cover fool you lol. - My biggest BIGGEST issue with the entire book was how the FMC was described. She’s constantly referred to as innocent, small, pure, angelic… her size is CONSTANTLY referenced and her blatant disgust at some pretty commonly known things (especially for a 20 year old in college…) is weird to me. - I won’t be reading the other two books in the series because there are just so many books to read but if you’re looking for a relatively light mafia romance, I think this is a good choice!
This book is absolutely ridiculous. (Kinda fun, but still ridiculous). It starts with our two lovebirds falling in love. But, alas, Joseph ran away with his buddy Marco to go back to the mafia (to bone each other, I assume). However, Marco's supposedly giant schlong wasn't enough to ease the pain of Joseph losing this amazing, unforgettable girl whose name I couldn't remember if you paid me. (Maybe Aurora? Paisley? Sage?) So Marco thinks with his cock and decides to kidnap this innocent little angel. You would think shenanigans, hilarity, or some spice would ensue, but nope. It actually gets kind of boring from here. The girl just whines and cries, Marco gets annoyed, and Joseph feels guilty, yet turned on by her vulnerability. I wish I was joking. Some of the scenes were a bit hot, though. However, overall, the smut was minimal and not super kinky or anything. I'm sure the next book is much spicier: the title is literally The Daddy and the Dom.
Anyways, I was able to get through the book, hence the two star rating. I read it pretty quickly: it was a nice, short read. This gave exactly as much as you expect. I was kind of hoping for more danger, but I think that comes in the second book. I did like that there were multiple perspectives that alternated regularly.
If you like really strange love triangles, weak main girls, and awkward conversations, Mafia Captive might be for you.
Mafia Captive (Mafia Menage Trilogy Book 1) – Julia Sykes I wasn’t sure what to expect with this series as I had not read this author before. I was not disappointed! Our Mafia guys, Marco and Joseph, are deep, strong personalities. Our female lead Ashlyn is the typical college girl that every bad boy wants to own. Joseph has fled to Boston to escape his life as the son of a Mafia boss. He’s working in the local college bar as the bartender when he meets Ashlyn. They have secretly fallen for each other, but Joseph’s dark secret past and Ashlyn’s shy reserve with men after being cheated on plays havoc in the early part of their relationship. Super hot and steamy scenes when these two finally get it on! The couples bliss is interrupted when Joseph’s best friend Marco, from his old life turns up and whisks him back to his old life, convincing him that to stay with Ashlyn would put her in danger! Joseph is miserable and Marco soon realises the reason for this misery, he needs Ashlyn. Marco is not immune to her charms either. He kidnaps her and brings her back to the city where the real fun and games begin. Marco realises that Ashlyn was meant to be with both he and Joseph. When he convinces Ashlyn of this the fireworks really begin. HOT HOT HOT! Trigger warning for light BDSM with power exchange. Explicit sex scenes containing more than one partner. Five Stars.
Joseph and Ashlyn's story begins in a bar near the college campus. Joseph is hiding from his real life and finds Ashlyn captivating as well as sweet and shy. Ashlyn is attracted by Joseph's good looks and gentlemen like qualities. After an altercation in the bar, Joseph gave in to his need to be with Ashlyn. "She practically shined, every bit the angel I'd envisioned....she was the life I craved, everything I couldn't have and didn't deserve." "Lust ignited my system, pulsing through me with a visceral intensity I'd never known before." But this relationship and their story wasn't all sunshine and roses, "Fear was venom in my veins, coursing through my body with insidious intent." I love the author's use of words, the way her words flowed, and created real feelings for the reader. The emotions and attraction seemed real to this reader and I found myself awake and reading this book in the middle of the night not being able to put this couple out of my mind. Excellent book, there was no menage which I guess will come in the next book with Marco. I will definitely read more by this author.
Luckily this was a quick read and for once my main issues are not really the plot but tropes and characteristics.
For starters the plot was ok. I picked this book because I enjoy dark mafia kidnapping romances. However, there wasnt much going on with the plot and, even though it was an easy read, it was very lifeless. There was a lack of depth to the characters and I just didnt care for them.
The main girl Ashlynn is presented as this young innocent girl, who got cheated on and is a student at harvard. She meets Joseph after he saves her from being sexually harassed by a random guy and then it goes from there.
There were many things that made this book boring and unappealing. Some of those include: Insta-love, The 'w****' bestie in contrast to the virginal fmc, the mafia subplot, lack of character depth and the centralisation of a character's love interest to the point that, that is all we know when we think of the main character.
1) Insta-love - I don't hate Insta-Love itself! Depending on the book it can work if im engaged to stay and invest in the story and theres more to the plot than boy meets girl and now they are in love. In this book, they met and quickly became infatuated only for our main girl Ashlyn to just as quickly lose interest when she discovers he is in the mafia. I personally think the way love is shown in these books is very two dimensional. It should be complex it should be something that develops, I understand tge character feeling scared because of what she eventually learns but it should disect her initial feelings of love even further. Did she even love him? Does she still love him? Can she adapt into his world or will she let it go? Things like this would have given Ashlynn the depth that she needed to regulate her emotions and communicate from her perspective what she thinks is right to do.
2) Female Friendships and female personality distinction - I could write an essay on this topic alone but I will keep it short and sweet. Very rarely do we see a genuine connection between two female friends in modern romance books. Now this is just an observation from what I have read personally, but there isnt a female friendship in book form that has come close to Anne and Diana from Anne of Green Gables. You saw how nervous Anne was to approach Diana seeing how she didn't have a lot of social connection with girls her age before so when she does she is delighted that she for once could consider Diana a best friend. You see them grow and develop together and it doesnt make the story boring but adds to the characters and later the romance between Anne and Gilbert with Diana acting as sign of reassurance that Gilbert likes Anne. In many modern romances the female best friend serves to push the main character onto the love interest or are there to show the contrast between them and the main character. Typically we dont get get to know as much about the female friend that usually appears in one or two chapters before becoming a passing mention. The best friend is usually portrayed as a party girl, slutty and tge bringer of bad decisions meanwhile their friend (the main character) is the opposite shy, virginal, innocent with little or no experience with dating. There is no backstory of how the two characters became friends and why they are friends. Even worse sometimes is when they are compared by douchebags love interests or random men created so that the main love interest can seem like a hero. They will compare slutty bestie to pure main and lift up the main girl for her virginity while tearing down her bestie for being promiscuous and outgoing. Okay so I slightly lied about this being short but I think its become cliche now for the best friend to serve no other purpose other than to push the main girl onto the love interest as well as being poloar opposites.
3) The Mafia threat - This is the final point i will emphasis on as the rest I think are clear in itself. So the Mafia whether they are Italian, Russian, Irish, Albanian, American, Spanish whatever are a cold blooded criminal organisation. Now I love a cheeky mafia romance even better if the leader marries somebody outside of the organisation to someone normal, which adds to the danger and forbiddeniss of the plot. Yet, in this book the two love interests might as well have been florists because there was absolutely no threat. I didn't feel scared for the characters and I didn't empaphise with Ashlyn after being kidnapped because I didnt connect with the characters or the story. I couldnt tell you who their enemies were apart from the fact that they were in the mafia lol.
Thats the end of my review of this book and some points I wanted to bring up because I have noticed them become way more common not just from what I have read but other reviews from other people. Although, pointing out these things is actually a good thing. It moves us on to what we would actually like and help other people who are looking for something similar. So I would not recommend this book unless you just want something quick with very little to think about.

Elle pourrait me prendre.
L’autre me fait trembler.
