Wow. Wish I had a man who was willing to do everything that Adam did for Lindy after she left him.

Lindy loved her husband but he had been working so much for so long that she decided if she had to do everything by herself she might as well be alone. So she decided to leave him and moved in to their beach house.

I listened to the audio book narrated by Jay Dyess. As usual he made the book come alive. The feelings came out in his words and brought the story to life.

Loved this book and can't wait to read the next one.

A second chances Christian romance. I found this audio book on YouTube and listened for free there. The narrator did the best job that they could with the book and the plot was actually pretty good. However, the writing was for very low-level readers with very short, clipped sentence structure that was annoying. The author also wanted to make sure that everyone knew it was a Christian romance so every single chapter repeatedly drove that home to the point of overkill. I mean the husband has been an absentee husband/father and hasn't been to church other than on Christmas for something like 10 years and all the sudden he's mister godly and best friends with his wife's former minister who he didn't know and had to introduce himself to since the minister didn't know him. It's a great start to a decent story, just needs someone to come in and add some meat to it and make it a bit more readable or in my case listenable.

Outdated and preachy

I knew this was going to be a "sweet" romance, meaning no sexy times, but I'm a sucker for a good rekindled marriage story so I took a chance on this one. I usually read the one star reviews before I get a book but I must have missed this one because there's nothing in the description that tells the reader that it's extremely outdated with an extremely conservative evangelical viewpoint. The husband "listens to preaching tapes"---how old is this guy and what decade is it? Podcasts maybe; live streaming or YouTube videos; downloaded audio files; but tapes? Do any ministries even make tapes any more? A neighbor stops for a chat and "wound his window up" in his vehicle. Is it vintage? No electric windows. The husband and wife never communicate, even after he attempts to reconcile. She is passive to the extreme with him and with her mother. Their first dinner together when he comes to the beach house she is thinking about him being the "head of the household" even to the point of mentally second guessing herself for telling their teenage daughter that she's excused from the table. She questions why everything seems to be coming together about her new business, because surely the Lord wasn't blessing her, because she had left her husband. But the worst was when a side character was mourning the death of her day old daughter many years before, but thought that she "deserved it" because as a pregnant fifteen year old with no support system, she'd briefly considered an abortion. It must have been God's will because she'd become rich and successful and had done a lot of good in the world and that probably wouldn't have happened if her daughter had lived. To which "confession" the passive beyond measure wife said nothing. I will never read another thing by this author.

A Story Most People Can Relate to

Jessie Gussman's first installment in the Blueberry Beach series is a winner! I can't wait to see what's in store for this cozy town and its close-knit inhabitants. Based on the Epilogue, the second book will focus on Anitra, owner of the dinner and mother of a terminally ill son. But Yesterday's Treasures stars Lindy, a neglected wife who has had it and leaves her husband, not to divorce him but to give him a wake-up call. She succeeds.

Adam has been building his business for 20 years, to the exclusion of everything ---and everyone---else. Lindy has felt ignored for most of that time, and after their daughter Sierra is born, she feels like a single mom who does a man's laundry. It's a sad story that hits home to too many people too often.

Lindy runs to her family's beach house on the shores of Lake Michigan and takes Sierra with her. After consulting his pastor, Adam shows up and indicates that he wants to reconcile. Over time and despite some bumps along the way, they do reconcile and there's promise of better things ahead.

The neglect of one spouse by another, unaware, is a common problem in this country these days. Adam thought he was caring for his family by providing for them, but he didn't realize that what his wife needed was simply time together and a little cuddling. The pastor sends Adam a link to "The Five Love Languages", and although it's not stated in the book, it's clear that Linda's are quality time and physical touch. Adam hasn't been giving her either but is willing to start... and humble enough to take only what she's ready to give him. Many couples have benefited from this teaching and many others would benefit if they gave it a chance.

Gussman's alternation between her viewpoint and his gives both Lindy and Adam a fair say. .Even in third person, the thought processes are clear and the aches are heartrending. It's not a beach read, series title aside, but the characters' story arcs and lessons learned make a very satisfying read. Highly recommended!

Lindy and Adam had struggled in their marriage. They hadn't been unfaithful but Adam was completely absorbed with making his business successful. So much so that he neglected his family, especially his wife. When Lindy had enough, she wrote Adam a letter and left him, taking their teenage daughter with her and moved to Blueberry Beach where they had a summer cottage on the beach.

Adam was blindsided, not realizing how bad things had gotten. What would it take to save his marriage or was he too late?

This story is a beautifully written story of forgiveness and true love. It is clean and wholesome and something that most married couples can identify with, even if you have never left your spouse, you can understand how things can be when true love turns into "roommates" sometimes. There are secondary characters from the small town of Blueberry Beach where they take care of each other, even the newcomers to town. I really enjoyed reading this sweet story and listening to the audio version, that is very well done.

A new author to me. I enjoyed this book very much.

Lindy Coates was married to a man who was married to his job. At the beginning of their marriage, he was very loving and took the time, but when there were more demands in his business, he would work extra hours and come home very late. He was never unfaithful to his wife. Neither was she unfaithful to him.

Lindy decided after 15 years of being ignored that she could just not take it anymore. She did not want a divorce. She moved to their beach house and took their daughter with her. She left her husband a letter. He did not see the letter right away - that tells you how distracted he was.

Surprisingly, he decided to talk to the family minister. He needed to confess to the pastor how wrong he had been. The pastor gave him good advice to save his marriage.

This was a lovely love story. I was so glad that both of them had a second chance at love.

Wow. This book was a "fun" read, so I didn't take notes, but wow.

Lindy and Adam had been married for 20 years, but he was wrapped up in his business and she'd felt neglected for about 15 of those years. She left. He wanted to win her back.

That's the short synopsis of it. But it doesn't have any of the feelings in that little report, and let me tell you, I felt all the things. Just. Wow. Highest of recommendations from me.

This is a book that will make you stop and reflect on the meaning of love and the ways we show love. Adam is shocked to find a letter from his wife of twenty years that tells him she is leaving him. He has always prided himself on providing for his wife and daughter, and worked extremely long hours to do so. He never thought that his work would be the reason why his wife would leave him. Lindy’s letter speaks of his neglect, that she tried talk to him over the years, but now the time had come for her to take action. The letter is the wake up call he needs to finally see that his business is not the most important thing in his life....Lindy is. Lindy has made a new life for her and her teenage daughter in the beach town where the family used to take vacations. She is beyond surprised when her estranged husband shows up six weeks after she left to tell her he has sold their home and the business. Adam is not sure if Lindy will allow him back in her life, but after some soul searching and some guidance from God and a pastor, he is determined to win her back. Lindy wary of opening up her heart again to a man that neglected her and took her love granted. Will she allow them to have a second chance at love?

This book expertly illustrates that love is not just about the words or feelings, it’s about the ways we show love, and the actions we take. It doesn’t have to shown in grand gestures, but rather in small, thoughtful and meaningful ones. Love requires constant nurturing, just like a houseplant, or it will wither and die. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Adam has been largely ignoring Lindy for the vast majority of their marriage, consumed instead with his business and the need to provide for his family. But Lindy wants him, not just the money he can make. When all attempts to talk to him about how she feels have failed, she decides to move, with Sienna their daughter, to their holiday cottage at Blueberry Beach. There, she settles into a happy and useful life, expecting Adam to barely miss them - only to find that he follows her, having sold his business and their house, and wishing to reconcile! Will Adam be able to convince Lindy that he really is serious about wanting a second chance? And will Lindy be willing to open herself up to the possibility of being hurt again?

This is a heart-warming, inspiring story, perhaps a somewhat new style for the author, but I love it. In fact, it may be my favourite book by the author to date, and I'm eager to see the sequel. I particularly liked the way that, once he realised the problem with his behaviour, Adam was willing to ask advice about how to change, listen, and change. Okay, he should have been willing to listen to his advice earlier, but it was nice to see it eventually! Probably the only thing I didn't like was her parents' behaviour - but that's by the by. All in all, this was a delightful and satisfying story, and I look forward to more of Blueberry Beach.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

I loved getting to know the characters, not too many to lose track of and not too few that it was all centered around. Meeting Lindy, she should've spoken up long ago, but did what she thought was right at the time. Adam,, thought he was providing for his family, material wise....yes, , human form wise.......not even close. Sierra, their daughter, not happy about up and leaving her current high school and friends, but wasn't a typical teenager about it, (ok very often). I really enjoyed it wasn't poof they both knew what was wrong and it changed over night, it took time, communication with one another and trying each and everyday and thinking about the other person more than themselves.
The townspeople of Blueberry Beach, Gage n his daughters Naomi, Lexi, surf shop owner Bill, Anitra (I can't wait to read more on her), Ida, and a few others who didn't judge, but was very supportive and yes sometimes protective of the newcomers and lets not forget the role that Reverend Rendell had in the story.
The down or negative of the book was the name of Lindy where to me it should've been Sierra, her recital, chapter 15 band practice and getting off the school bus on 1/2 day in chapter 2.

Wow. This was a departure from Jessie's usual style of story, but apparently she can do serious and contemplative just as amazingly well as she does everything else! I loved everyone's response to this situation, how real they were, how much it was obvious that it couldn't just be fixed by a few words or gestures, but that nobody wanted to give up completely either.

I also loved Jay's reading of the story, and how he captured the raw emotions of each person's perspective. It amazes me that he can switch back and forth between Lindy's barely suppressed anger and pain, Adam's hurt and desperation, and Sierra's confusion and belligerent attitude, sometimes all in the same conversation, and make you feel every bit of it.

This is a story of a family that has lost each other and are trying to find their way again. Each person finds themselves along the way too, which makes it even more special.

I loved Yesterday's Treasures by Jessie Gussman. I loved the characters in the story, the second chance storyline, and the setting in Blueberry Beach, Michigan. The care and compassion Lindy found there helped her adjust to the idea that maybe she hadn't done the right thing when she walked away from her marriage, but it was the right thing for her to do at the time. This story of a love grown cold could happen in anyone's marriage when you're not careful to nurture it. The life lessons she conveys through her characters are a great reminder to not take important relationships, especially your marriage, for granted. Jessie Gussman has written sweet romance, romantic comedy, and now a foray into women's fiction. The way she's able to make the words and story flow makes this a quick and delightful read.

Lindy felt—no, she was—taken for granted by her hard-working husband. Adam felt that he had to give his all to grow his business and he took great pride in the success he experienced. Feeling that Adam wouldn’t miss her anyway, Lindy moved herself and their daughter to the small cottage at Blueberry Beach that they owned. There was a lot of food for thought in this book concerning how to define success, what really matters in life, and what love really is—a feeling, an action word? Good advice was given to Adam for how to try to rebuild his broken relationship with Lindy and he worked on it as hard as he worked to build his business. It was encouraging, inspiring, and a great book for a couple to read together. Highly recommend! I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

her husband was only interested in his business. he never had time for her and her daughter so she packed up their stuff and left him a letter. they moved to the house at the beach. he didnt even notice they were missing or that she wasnt in bed with him till days later

he took the letter to his pastor and was told to sell the business and house and move to the beach and try and woo his wife back. so he showed up there and pitched a tent in the yard. she allowed him in the house to shower

she rented a store in town and opened and candy and ice cream shop.

her husband tried to woo her and the daughter back. he got a part time job in the surf shop. they both helped out the owner of the diner while her son lay dying in the hospital. that was another book that i read that was good

they were both really sad

her and the husband made up

This is a wonderful introduction into this caring community. I love Blueberry Beach and each of the different characters that bring this story to life. Jessie Gussman has an ability to bring real emotion to a story and help me see different sides of the story as well. Both Lindi and Adam grow so much as this story progresses. Being willing to open up to change and make change can be so healing. I look forward to continuing to visit Blueberry Beach as I continue this series.

It was good to revisit this story as I listened to it on Say with Jay. So many things to learn from these characters and those whose lives they touch.

Yesterday's Treasures by Jessie Gussman is a 2021 publication.

When Adam receives a note from his wife, Lindy, announcing that she has left him and moved into their cottage permanently, he is faced with an unsettling truth: he may have neglected both Lindy and their daughter for years. Determined to save his marriage, Adam sets out on a path to win Lindy back, though her resolve to establish her independence is surprisingly firm.

This short story is a faith-based romance with a practical message at its core. It reminds us of the importance of balancing responsibilities with cherishing the people we hold dear. However, while this is story has its share of heartwarming moments, and perhaps isn't meant for deep analysis, there are some significant shortcomings I just couldn't overlook.

One key issue lies in the setting and dynamics of the couple, which felt as though they belonged to a bygone era. Some of the actions taken by the characters seem implausible in a modern context, and it is difficult to imagine either partner making drastic decisions without mutual consultation. In fact, in today's 'security first' enviroment I'd say it wasn't just difficult but maybe even legally impossible- not to mention the blase reactions to those drastic decisions. Umm.. I don't think so.

The balance of character growth also feels uneven, with one spouse—Adam—bearing the weight of blame and redemption, while the other, Lindy, remains comparatively immoble in her role.

Her response to disrespectful behavior from others is another case in point- and it was frustrating to witness her passivity... and Adam's tolerance for such disparaging treatment of Lindy.

Despite these flaws, the story delivers a valuable lesson. It highlights how we can sometimes become consumed by responsibilities and ambitions, losing sight of irreplaceable moments with loved ones. This message adds depth to the narrative and offers readers a little something to chew on.

If are looking for a light read, this book offers a sweet, if imperfect, journey of rediscovery and reconciliation. Though it requires overlooking some implausible scenarios and uneven characterizations, it does deliver a lovely HEA ending.

Overall, this is a short and easy read, great for a little poolside reading or during a lunch break.

Ill try not to bore you

Overall, this is a beautiful book and a very lofht read. Really balanced and detailed enough. Heartfelt and somber and realistic without the headlight drama. I recommend to those who are not into hardcore books. You know what i mean.

TWO CENTS
I decided to take a break from my usual books when I decided to read this because there was just some thing that drew me in. Maybe it was just the simpleness of it all. There was no toxicity. There was no over-the-top drama. The synopsis was straight to the point. And I was even over the moon when there was no smut. This is a feel good book. The best thing about it is that it wasn't a back and forth dual pov. Never knew I disliked that until this book. I loved how Adam was written. Real. I seriously appreciated how the author didn't describe him to a T. He wasn't extraordinarily handsome and he didn't have six pack and he didn't have chiseled cheekbones and he didn't have smoldering eyes etc. You know how other authors describe the men as scrumptious. Same for Lindy. She wasn't described in a way that was sexualized and I appreciated that. I also loved how God was intertwined in the writing. I didnt feel uncomfortable and judged. I didnt feel like i was being converted either (though my Jesus and I have a good thing going on). The fact that Adam spoke to the pastor was breathetaking. The fact that Lindy reflected on herself and decided that it takes two to tango was also breathetaking. Bonus points for not bad-mouthing her husband to the child. With the little we got from Sierra, i appreciated her not being snarky and a rebel. i loved that she had a musical hobby and gave her Dad grace.

The only itch i have about this book is for the overused word BUSINESS. What exactly did Adam do? If he was so successful, why not have a bigger team? Yes he was a perfectionist but im sure the workers would have figured out how to mimic his workstyle? Didnt he have a secretary? Lindy is gentle soul and it took her 15 years to take her happiness into her hands (though she still wasnt happy when she left). I really wished they fought. Broke something lol. I guess thats just the toxicity in me but i just wished some sort of altercation had taken place.

I DNF’d at 68%. I’m just so bored and I don’t even care how it ends.

I love a good marriage in trouble story that doesn’t have anything to do with infidelity and they are rare so I was looking forward to this one. I was sorely disappointed. I’ve spent chapters reading about their awkwardly polite interactions, talking about the weather but not talking about anything that actually has to do with their marriage. I want to read them having it out with each other, putting it all out there. The heartbreak and angst. But there has been none of that and I’m over it.

The story does have elements of religion which I’m totally not into but it’s whatever. It’s not too preachy about it but damn, the life of a religious woman sounds absolutely miserable. Apparently if your husband has neglected you for 15 years you are still expected to stay with him and just be grateful that he doesn’t beat the shit out of you. And if you don’t stay because you have lost yourself and your husband doesn’t even acknowledge your existence, you get to feel guilty and be guilted about it. Nice.

Also, her mother was a shrew but was completely excused for constantly putting her daughter down because “she loves her”. Um ok, you should be nice to the people you love and want them to be happy but I guess berating her for opening a candy store and telling her she’s an absolute disappointment also works. 🙄

Anyway, I don’t really know what the point of this book is other than to make Christians look sad and miserable and to bore me to death. I’m glad to be done with it.

Lindy’s marriage is on it’s deathbed. Her husband hasn’t spoken to her in ages, never comes home at night until it’s too late to see their daughter or talk to either of them. When Lindy gets laid off from her job, she decides something is going to change. She packs up her daughter’s and her things and drives to Blueberry Beach, to the place she loves. She leaves Adam, her husband, a note, explaining how they haven’t seen, touch, or talked in so long, it’s as if she is a single person. And, he didn’t even notice for 6 weeks that she had been laid off and was not going in to her job every day! He bows his head in shane, knowing that every single word is true. Lindy, however, is starting to finally live again, getting to know her neighbors, getting involved with their lives, and even decides to open up her own business! How shocked she is when Adam comes to Blueberry Beach and throws up a big old tent in their front yard. He says he’s not leaving until he can prove to her that he DOES love her and Lindy and reconcile with them. Psst:he’s there for a long time! Oh, how I loved this beautifully written piece of literature!! In my opinion, this is a book that everyone should read. You will never forget it! ♥️📕

I love Jessie Gussman’s books!
This book centered around a woman who felt very much neglected by her husband who was a work-a-hollic. She felt unfulfilled in her marriage to the point of wondering why she was even married when she was very lonely. Fortunately, her husband after more than 20 years of marriage finally realized what he was doing and humbly sought guidance from his pastor. He was given very compassionate and apropos suggestions to help him win back his wife. This story brought tears to my eyes at times and I also got a peaceful easy feeling knowing that this marriage would succeed as long as both characters were to continue living Christian principles. I’ve enjoyed this audio book. And appreciated the voice of Jay Dyess and his talent with the narration. I will continue to listen to other books narrated by him and written by Jessie Gussman. I appreciate her clean, sweet Christian love genre. I can easily sit back and listen knowing her books will not be offensive and will include Christ centered messages and clean well developed characters who want to live a Christ-centered life. Very well written and highly recommended.

Yesterday’s Treasures is a wonderful, heart-warming story of second chances. It teaches us in a wholly satisfying way that following the best of our intentions may not be best for others.
Adam loves his wife but his world is shaken when he wakes up to find that she’s left him. All the things he’s done for years to make sure she was taken care of weren’t enough. His actions pushed her into the background of his life until they were barely coexisting in the same space. Why hadn’t he seen it?
Now he must show her that to him she has infinite value, if he wants to save his marriage. And where will he start?
Lindy loves her husband, but after spending years feeling like a single mother and hoping for that one gesture from her husband, she’s had enough hurt. She leaves a letter and takes her daughter to their beach house.
When Adam shows up can she trust him enough to open her heart once again?
Humbling ourself for the sake of someone else is never easy, but the rewards are more than we can count.
I love this book and highly recommend it.

The only way you can be heard is when someone is willing to listen.
And she hadn't been heard for 15 years. She decided it was time for her and her daughter to try carving out a life together. If she was going to be a single parent, then she might as well be a single parent.
As she left him a letter explaining where they were and why, she hoped he would b able to absorb what was going on...and 'maybe, hopefully' he still cared.
Blindsided as he was to find how alone they had been feeling as he built his business, he knew he had to make some drastic changes before they would believe that he still loved them and couldn't imagine life without them. There is a lot of damage control needed, a lot of soul searching and some tender moments as this family puts in the hard work to rebuild their lives together.
As well written and realistic as it is tender and gives hope that what was lost can be reclaimed.
I received an ARC copy of this new series and am happy to say I am looking forward to more like this.

Jessie Gussman certainly knows how to touch her reader's hearts with a beautiful story of love and saving a marriage. I think this is one of her best books! I really liked Lindy, who wanted more from her marriage than being alone raising her daughter while her husband was too busy running his business. I liked how brave she was when she moved from Pennsyvania to their home in Blueberry Beach, Michigan with her sixteen year old daughter so she could find herself and what she wanted or needed. I also liked that it was a wake up call for Adam, her husband and how he chose the pastor and God to try to win his wife back.

The town of Blueberry Beach, the people, and the quaint shops made it sound like a place I would like to visit. I look forwar to getting to know more about the people wh live there. I really liked this first book in this new series a lot. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

* I loved this book!
* The letter Adam got from his wife pulled me in from the very beginning. I wanted to see how this would work out. A very touching journey for both of them. This book was so real. This relationship held a depth of emotion seldom seen in books.
* I loved the way the husband literally gave up everything he worked so hard for, everything he felt that was important, to win her back. So much involved in what that entails. To win the woman he loves back. I loved this story for so many reasons.

Love this quote * “Love is giving, with no expectations of getting anything in return. In fact, that’s really the way it should be in your marriage all the time. You’re just looking for things to do or to say or to just be with her, whatever it is that makes her happy. Because you want her to be happy. Not because you have to or because you want something.”

Yesterday's Treasures is an emotional story of a couple that have been married for 20 years and the husband, Adam had put everything of himself in building his business and had not even noticed that he was missing life as it passed him and Lindy by. His daughter was 16 and he had not been at birthday parties, recitals, or other school events. Not only that, he had stopped going to church in order to go over the paperwork he got behind on working with the men on the jobs. Lindy just felt so alone she takes Sierra and they move from Pennsylvania to Michigan to live in their beach house on their own. It was so bad he slept in the bed and never even knew she was not there the night before. He finds out she is gone from her letter. He decided it was time for a life change. This story will make you mad, give you a smile, laugh out loud, and shed your share of tears.

Lindy felt neglected and Adam felt like he was doing a great job taking care of his family until Lindy left him. He would do whatever it takes to win her and their daughter back. This story is so believable and has so much love between the characters. Adam and Lindy still love each other but Adam just lost sight of what really mattered. I love this story line, because it is so unique. I was happy, I was sad, I laughed, and I down right bawled my eyes out. I am emotionally drained and that’s how you know the book is amazing. My husband said I know it is a good book when I see you go through all the different emotions. This book delivered it all. This is by far one of my all time favorite books ever. This story is so relatable, I have been married twice and they are both workaholics so I can see how this could happen. Jessie Gussman hit this one out of the park

A second chance love story of forgiveness and inspiration. Lindy doesn't want a divorce - she is just tired. Tired of being ignored, tired of doing the laundry for a man that doesn't know she exists, and tired of being alone for the last 15 years. She seems to be married in name only. Enough is enough! Lindy and her daughter move to their summer cabin in Blueberry Beach to start their life over. It's several days before her husband even realizes she is gone. He has no idea why she would leave. Clueless! He sets out to win her back only to discover Lindy has made a life for herself and started her own business. Hmmm, maybe this "win her back thing" isn't going to be as easy as he thought. Jay Dyess does a great job as narrator. I reviewed this audio book from Jessie and Jay's YouTube channel.
