Men of Valor MC

Thick Ride

Rate this book
My name is Oakleigh Wells and I shouldn't be here. That's what my father has drilled into my head since the day I was born. I don't know what real love is, not the way most people do at my age. If I could, I'd run away, but leaving Valor terrifies me. I wish I could fall asleep and wake up in a world that isn't so dark.

She's thick, beautiful, and entirely too young for me. The shadows in her eyes tell me she's been through a lot. I convince myself to walk away from her. She doesn't need someone twice her age with just as many demons. That is until I see a guy put his hands on her in a way he shouldn't. As President of the Men of Valor MC, I don't let that stand. All it takes is for her to look up at me with her big beautiful brown eyes for me to fall. Now she's mine and always will be.

This one was okay for me.. I enjoyed the characters but idk I wasn't feeling Oakleigh.. I want my couples to go hard for one another it felt like Bullet was the one always going hard.

Oakleigh had a rough life since her mother died giving birth and her father hated her, he never abused physical but mentally. And he made sure for her to stick around until she was 21. But that didnt last since he died and she was left hustling to get out of town. Enter Bullet Prez of the MC and he is sprung over her but girl wasn't giving him the time and day..so we get weeks of him coming into the bar watching her keeping her safe.

But there some drama with her fathers old police workers and her still pushing Bullet away.. so yeah we have that drama.

No ow/Slight om drama (drunk guys) no cheating, tiny drama, slight secondary character, sexy times, no virgins and no manwhore

3 stars?

Not exactly sure why the book ends in the middle of the story.
Would someone care to explain it to me, please?

Pity, because were that a full-length with a nice epilogue and all the answers I need, I'd be giving it way more than 3 stars.

But what we have here?
That is just weird af, man...

Oakleigh and Bullet meet when she begins working at Midnight Oil. He wants her immediately, but she wants nothing to do with him. She just wants out of their town and to start her life. She has been wronged most of her life and doesn't trust easily. She had sass, which was good, but she was also a brat. Bullet is not easily deterred and it was interesting to see him try to get her to come around. The plotline was a bit fast and loose, but it worked out okay. The plot was kind of choppy and the story had some flow issues for me. Overall a quick, easy read.

Bullet lives up to his name

Thick Ride by Elise Leigh is part of the multi-author Men of Valor MC series and is the story of Oakleigh Wells and Cason "Bullet" Rowe.
Oakleigh is twenty years old and was born and raised in the town of Valor, Wyoming by her single father. Her mother had died when Oakleigh was a couple of days old from pregnancy complications. Her father never really wanted to raise her and so she was raised without love and being abused. The worst part was that she could not do anything about it as her father was a Valor Police officer and would make it seem like she was the crazy one whenever social services came poking around. So Oakleigh learned to be quiet and try to stay hidden. She has plans to leave town as soon as she turns twenty-one, but until then her father has made her promise to stay and live with him. Things change though when a month or so before her birthday he dies from a sudden heart attack. Paying for the funeral, catching up on the mortgage and paying all the overdue bills took his life insurance and most of her savings. Now she has a house that she plans to fix up as best she can to sell and then get out of town.
Bullet is forty-two years old and is the President of the Men of Valor MC. He was an Army sniper for half his life but when he retired he came to Valor and joined the MC. Three years ago he was voted in as President which keeps him busy overseeing all of the clubs businesses and men.
Once Oakleigh turns twenty-one she gets a job as a waitress at the Midnight Oil bar which is owned and operated by the Men of Valor MC. It is there one night that she literally stumbles at the feet of Bullet and he catches her, along with the tray of beer she was carrying. Bullet is a very big man and boy is he handsome and sexy. Oakleigh is a taller and curvy woman who immediately wakes something up in Bullet that he has not felt in a long time. He knows she is too young for him, as he is twice her age, but he cannot seem to stay away from her. But Oakleigh is not giving in and she always has a quick comeback or button to push with Bullet. This piques his interest even further and makes him very protective of her, claiming her without her knowing about it. When Oakleigh is attacked one night at the end of her shift by two men who had been idiots in the bar it is Bullet who lives up to his nickname and makes sure that they will never lay a hand on her again, or anyone else ever again. Things heat up between Bullet and Oakleigh but she still have her plans for leaving town. Things are further complicated when she learns about something her mother left her for when she turned twenty-one and there is more trouble. It is a good thing that Bullet is there to once again save her and make sure that she is protected.

This is the second book I have read by Elisa Leigh and I enjoyed it a lot. The story has a nice mix of drama, mystery, action, romance, the MC, some very sizzling sexy scenes and more...including a sweet and fun HEA.

Bullet is the MC president and he sees Oakleigh for the first time at the bar where she is the new waitress. He is instantly attracted to her, she is interested but has had a very hard life so she is very wary of him. Her mother dies very early and her father blamed her for it her whole life, he was very mentally abusive to her. He was one of the crooked cops in town so anytime she ran away from home or told anyone of the abuse he always said she was a disturbed child because of the loss of her mother. She has no friends growing up or now. She is just a little short of her 21st birthday when she plans to leave, a few years ago her father told her to stay until she was 21 so she is staying. But weeks short of her birthday he has a heart attack and dies. Needing money to leave she gets a job at the bar. Bullet tries hard to get her to be with him, he starts keeping track of her. Which comes in handy when a couple of customers become handsy with her. She is a badass and handles it. When Bullet asks them to leave they do but they don’t go far, when she goes out back to take out the trash they attack her. She does a good job trying to fight them off but there are two of them. Bullet notices her missing and runs out to check, sees the guys trying to rape her, he shots both of them. Takes her with him home and has a prospect come take care of the bodies. At his place they have sex, he tells her he’s all in but for some reason she does not believe him and leaves in the morning when he is sleeping. As she;s walking on the road outside of the MC compound a police car stops, the two cops inside tell her she owes them some money from a trust her mom had set up for her, it was part of the deal with her dad. When she tries to get away from them, they tase her. They take her to the bank and tell her to get them the money or they will hurt her. She is able to get a small portion of the 5 million her mom had in a trust for her. When she comes out of the bank the MC is there and the Bullet has made the cops leave. They go back to the MC and they talk, with lots of I love yous and he gives her her cut. Epilogue eight years later with her using her trust to open a home for women and children from abusive households. Her and the other ole ladies work with the men to make Valor better. They have two daughters and she delivers twin sons.
I liked Bullet’s character but did not really like or understand Oakleigh’s character. She puts up with a life time of abuse from her dad and doesn’t know what love is and the first time someone shows it to her she fights against it. And she mentions missing her dad, that just seemed weird, who misses their abuser.

This was a great addition to the ‘Men of Valor’ MC series and another fab book by Elisa Leigh. This story focused on Men Of Valor MC Prez Bullet and local girl Oakleigh. This is a MC and age gap romance and although it’s a fairly short read it is action packed. I fell in love with both Oakleigh and Bullet as they are both likeable and relatable characters. The chemistry between them really came across in the narrative and led to some steamy scenes. The plot kept me happily turning the pages and also kept me on the edge of my seat. I was gripped from page one of this fast paced romance which also had plenty of drama and suspense and I felt fully immersed in the storyline. I look forward to reading the other books in this series about the ‘Men of Valor’ MC who are all ex-military bikers.

Thick Ride

Ohh my goodness this series just keeps getting better and better!! This one was no exception! I absolutely LOVED this one. A very Happily Ever After ❤

This one is NOT COMPLETELY SAFE!! It is however mostly safe and free of abuse and cheating, no ow/om drama, no others after meeting, no mention of eithers previous experience. The part that I feel classifies this one as not safe is that the heroine has an on page attempted sexual assault. She was of course rescued by the hero before they could really get started.

This book had a few good moments, but overall I’d say it was not my favorite.
There were quite a few spelling errors, including Bullet’s name a few times, which was confusing and disorienting.
The plot was ok. I liked the concept and it played out pretty cohesively, if not a bit rushed and lacking in detail. There was a lot of times where she would tell us of a conversation she’d had instead of us actually reading the conversation as it happened, which was annoying.
We really only got backstory on Oakleigh in this story. All we got from Bullet is how he became president, that he was an Army sniper, and that he’s 42. Not a lot to go on.
Also their relationship didn’t feel very passionate or romantic. The sex was kind of mediocre and brief. The ending was alright but not enough to make up for what was lacking from the rest of the book.
I don’t know. This wasn’t the worst out this MC series, but it’s nowhere near the best either.

Bullet felt pull towards Oakleigh and came to her rescue more than once. Oakleigh has never felt wanted or loved by anyone so she’s leery of Bullet’s attention towards her. She only wants to make enough money to get out of town and start over but after their one night together will she ever be able to get over Bullet? An enjoyable novella with interesting characters. Oakleigh and Bullet have an unquestionable connection that neither can explain. Great story as part of this series. I received an arc copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The couple: Bullet and Oakleigh

Romance genre: MC/insta-love
Part of a series: Yes (Men of Valor)
Length: 66 pages

Plot: Oakleigh is a young woman who has never really known love. As long as she can remember, her father has terrorized her and told her how she shouldn't be alive. He was a cop though, so Oakleigh can't just go to the authorities. However, he's dead now, and she wants to get together enough money so she can leave the town that never took care of her. Bullet wants to take care of her though, from the moment he saw her in his club's bar, where she's been working. He just has to convince her that he's the one for her and that she should stick around.

Character development: Bullet - pretty hot! Elisa Leigh always writes a great curvy girl story, and this was no exception. Bullet has his work cut out for him, convincing her that not only does he want her, but that she's worthy of his love. Her father did her dirty, and that's a hard mindset to break out of. There was a little bit of adventure when the cops kidnap her, but she manages to get herself out of that - she's a smart girl.

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes
Next book in the series: Let's Ride

WOW!! I couldn't put this one down. I absolutely love it!! This was a nice quick, short read.

Carson/Bullet meets Oakleigh when he meets his MC brothers at the bar they own. She is a waitress and when she stumbles in front of him he grabs her so she doesn’t fall. A few weeks later, Bullet always stops by the bar to check on Oakleigh. Usually she gives him a hard time. When Oakleigh gets a table with two guys that give her a hard time Bullet steps up behind her and asks them to leave. Oakleigh tells Bullet she can handle it, when they grab at her she plants their face into the table. After that, you guys leave, Bullet tells Oakleigh he’s going to wait for her to walk her to her vehicle. She told him she can take care of herself, he tells her to do him this favor for tonight. A few hours later Oakleigh is taking out the garbage when they jump her. Bullet steps out from the bar and fire us his gun at them. He takes her back to his home where she passes out. When she wakes, he tells her she’s staying with him for tonight. Bullet tells her she is his but she tells him she leavingas soon as she has enough money saved up. Oakleigh takes a shower then climbs into Bullet’s bed. After laying awake she calls to Bullet and asks him to make it all better. Bullet tells her he can do that, undresses and climbs into bed with her. He asks her if she is sure this is what she wants, she tells him yes. They get physical, going all night long. He tells her she is his for the rest of his days. The next morning Oakleigh wakes and leaves, not wanting him to break her heart. As she is walking home two officers ask her what she doing, when she tries to run they teaser her and throw her in the back of her car. They tells her they are looking after her for her father but she knows that’s not right. They tells her they want their payout her father promised them. Oakleigh doesn’t know what they’re talking about. They tell her her father told them when she turned twenty one She gets her mother’s inheritance. Oakleigh’s mother gave her a trust fund that she can access now. When Bullet wakes and find her gone, he gets a few of his MC brothers to help him find her. They head to the bank and scare away the two officers. Oakleigh comes out of the bank and finds Bullet waiting for her. A little while later, Oakleigh tells Bullet she needs to go home. He tells her she’s not going anywhere and ask her to move in with him. She tells him she plan to leave Valor, he tells her he’ll follow her wherever she goes. Bullet tells her she can follow her old plan or make a new one. Oakleigh tells Bullet she’s scared it’s all going to be taken away from her. He tells her no one will ever take him away from her. He tells her he loves her and she tells him she loves him too. Bullet gives her his cut and tells her she is his. Then slips a ring on her finger. Eight years later, Oakleigh opened a woman and children’s shelter she renovated her dads home. She’s gives birth to their twin sons Nico and Nolan they also have two girls Meredith and Etta. Oakleigh thanks Bullet for the beautiful life he’s given her, he tells her it was her he’s just along for the ride.

Bullet comes to rescue in more than one way

Oakleigh has had a real rough time her mum died when she was just a baby and her father had always blamed her he was verbally abusive it he was a cop and as everyone knew the cops in Valor are corrupt. Oakleigh’s father dropped dead and she has been working at the bar to get enough money together so she can
leave Valor for good.
Bullet is the Valor MC president and has popped into the bar they own for a drink with some of the boys a waitress nearly bumps into him but trips over feet as he holds her up he has this feeling he needs to protect her but also possessive but doesn’t act on it until Oakleigh has a problem with a couple punters but she deals with them well but he wants to walk her out that evening.
Oakleigh knows there is a connection between Bullet and her but she is trying to deny it after the rowdy lads she is finishing and goes to take out the trash but is attacked by the two jerks from inside.
Bullet can’t find Oakleigh but is directed outside where he finds the lads assaulting her when he pulls her away he takes her back to his house and end up spending the night together however when he wakes up she isn’t there after pulling up there ctt they see her being tazered and put into back of police car where they find is now at the bank.
Oakleigh finds out why the cops want her and she didn’t even know about the account her mum had set up for her but the cops want it. Oakleigh knew it was the wrong move to leave Bullet that morning but she was trying to protect herself when she comes out of the bank Oakleigh is surprised to see Bullet he came for her and she knows her place is right by his side as his old lady.

Oakleigh Wells was not liked by her father very much. I personally can relate with the protagionist. Where Oakleigh's father only wanted her around until she turned 21, mine just doesn't want me around period. That's why I understand her need to flee. Although, the dirty cops also play a lot into why she wants to leave.

Bullet is much older than Oakleigh, old enough to be her pops. He is also President of the Men of Valor MC. However, when Oakleigh stumblez into him, one look up at him with her big beautiful brown eyes- Bullet had no choice but to fall for her. Her beauty and the shadows in her eyes tell him she's been through a lot.

Bullet walk away from her, as hard as it is. But one night she is being harassed by two male customers and he trys to come to her aide. But Oakleigh has it handled and it turn Bullet stone hard. He can't walk away now seeing her handle herself.

However, the two guys ambushed her at the dumpster and Bullet see a guy put his hands on her in a way he shouldn't and doesn't let that shit stand.

Oakleigh goes home with Bullet and let's herself have him. Walking away from Bullet the next morning was hard. It was made worse after being being tagged by two dirty cops that wants her five million and to end her. But Bullet and the crew chases, saving Oakleigh from the dirty cops and they live HEA...

However, if you want more deets that make this story a whole. Your just going to have give it a read. I promise you will not be disappointed. In addition this is a 24 book series.

I'm giving it a very generous 3 stars.

This honestly, felt more like a first draft than a finished product. It ended abruptly, with no real HEA. I'm not sure if Oakley even really likes Bullet or if she's just grateful for him saving her. It may have been Insta-love for him, but I dont feel that from her.

The story had good bones, but I felt like the author was told she has 5 minutes to wrap it up, so she did the last third all in that time frame.

I got to Oakley's confrontation with the cops, and put the book down, because it was so bad. I went back and it was over in a few more pages. Nothing happened to the corrupt cop, Oakley didnt call Bullet for help, nor did she try to escape out the back of the bank, nothing.

I dont want to say more, because I dont like dealing with spoilers. I will say that this was my first time reading this author. I won't DNF her books on sight, but this book in no way encourages me to seek her out and read anything else she puts out.

It was poorly written, rushed, I didn't connect with the FMC and I'm not sure the FMC really connected with the MMC on a more personal level. Outside of a one night stand, anyway. Maybe if it were longer, and more fleshed out, I'd like it better. As it is, I can truthfully say I read it. I can't recommend it,but I'm not going to discourage others from reading it and form their own opinions.

Oakleigh hasn't had an easy life. After her Mom passed, her Dad seems to despise her. Drinking himself till he passes out is her only reprieve. She is planning on leaving her small town the second she turns 21, since that was the day she promised she would stay until.

However, when her father passes unexpectedly she is left alone, and broke. She begins to work at a local bar, where she meet Bullet, the President of the local Motorcycle club. The connection is instant, but Oakleigh resists, she doesn't need any times to this town. She just wants to save up money until she can leave.

When rowdy customers won't leave her alone Bullet steps in, but they aren't finished with her. When Bullet catches her being attacked he steps in. Vowing to protect her, he takes her home. The two share a steamy night, and already Bullet knows he wants her for forever. Oakleigh isn't as sure and decides to run away.

This leads to her finding out why her father really didn't like her, and why he wanted to stay. Bullet steps in again to protect her.

The ending was really sweet, and I loved seeing how she decided to honor her mother. How their future looked and how protective Bullet was with her.

Totally recommend if you are looking for a short steamy read.

The best word I can use to describe our leading lady Oakleigh, is feisty. Her picture would be next to it in the dictionary. She has her shields up and she doesn't hesitate to stand her ground. She is actually too focused on that. She has had a plan to get out of Valor and nothing is going to stop her. That is until Bullet, the president of the MC lays eyes on her. Now he is laser focused on her even though he doesn't act on it right away. The age difference gives him pause but that doesn't stop him for long. Once he has her in his bed, he thought it would be smooth sailing. But she is still focused on leaving, regardless of the connection between them. Can he convince her to stay? I zipped through Thick Ride, it was a fast, fun read. Oakleigh really surprised me, she was strong and not afraid to push back when she gets groped at her job. I loved her and Bullet made it quite apparent how much her strength turned him on. Great read, 5 stars!

"I’d follow you all over the world until you found what you were looking for.”

Bullet is the president of the Men of Valor MC and I think Elisa Leigh did an amazing job writing him and his story. I really liked how she portrayed him. He's your typical tough, scary and hard MC president but also sweet, soft, possessive and infatuated with his girl. The h, Oakleigh was emotionally abused by her dad all her life and kept people at arms length but man was she a bad a$$. There's a scene in the bar when she did something that makes me wanna be her when I grow up.
-I'm glad neither of them were virgins, no talk about either of their pasts with OP
-no OW drama
-possible trigger- h gets attacked but H stops it; her mother dies from complications from pregnancy
-epilogue at 8 years.

Oakleigh has learned not to depend on anyone, she can take care of herself. Her goal is to leave the small town of Valor behnd. Bullet is Prez of an MC. When he meets Oakleigh, he knows he wants a life with her. Will she trust him (and herself) enough to give him a chance? I like this story for it's likable characters, good plot, drama, chemistry and themes of protection & brotherhood. This short insta-love romance has a few surprises, a HEA and satisfying epilogue. This book is a part of series written by various authors about ex-military bikers and can be read as a stand-alone. I love the name of this MC, Men of Valor. From the books I've read so far they are living up to that title! Very entertaining!

Oakleigh finally found something (someone) to make her stay

I really liked this story. It was short but entertaining and enjoyable. The characters were interesting and likable for the most part although I wanted to smack Oakleigh upside the head a couple of times. The officers got what they deserved. Oakleigh had lived in hell her whole life because of her father and the way he treated her. When she was finally free to do what she wanted, she had to get some money together so she could get out of Valor. Bullet (Cason) met Oakleigh at the bar and spent several weeks trying to get her comfortable with him so she would open up. After an incident where Bullet intervenes to save Oakleigh, they get a lot closer. Secrets come to light, there was some drama and angst but it resolves well. I loved their happy ever after. I recommend reading this book.

First things first; I really like the cover of this book!
Thick ride is a novella in the ‘’men of valor’’ collection. This story is short, fast paced and an enjoyable read. I read this book in one sitting and was satisfied throughout. I found the writing style easy to follow, the characters likeable and the storyline enjoyable. Oakleigh has had a far from easy life. When her father dies she is up to her eyes in debt and danger.
Bullet is the president of the men of valor mc. From the moment he meets Oakleigh he wants her.
The chemistry between Oakleigh and Cason/Bullet is clear to see and I liked them together.
I really liked the ending and the epilogue for this story.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and it is an enjoyable read.

Oakleigh's life started out bad and got worse. She was born early, mom died from labor complications, and her dad was a drunk cop that never loved her. Cason "Bullet" is the Men of Valor MC 's president. He takes one look, one 5 second holding of her in his arms, and that's all it takes to know she will be his. When she gets attacked behind the bar she's working at, Bullet does what needs doing then takes her home. But there is danger coming for her. Things about her family she doesn't know. Can he convince her not all men are bad and that staying will be worth it?
