Wishbone Tattoos #1

What We Deserve

Rate this book
I’m used to being alone, until she changed everything...

When my ex-wife left, she said the cruelest words she could think of, and I took them all to heart.

Now I work at my loveable bastard cousin’s tattoo parlor and keep most people at arm’s length. I have the occasional one night stand to take the edge off, but there can never be anything more than that for me.

I don’t let myself think about how lonely I am. At least I’m not ruining anyone’s life, right?

Then Emily walks into Wishbone Tattoos, asking about the receptionist job. And this shy, smiling, kindhearted woman is everything I’ve ever wanted.

I can’t help falling for her, even though I know I mustn't, for both our sakes.

But there’s something about Emily I don’t know. Something that will make her the exception to my hard and fast rule...

She’s battle scarred herself, and running scared from a dark past which snaps at her heels, but I’m not going to let anyone hurt her ever again, I swear to god.

And maybe, if we’re lucky and we both want it hard enough, the two of us will finally get what we deserve.

🔹 Overall feelings:
〰 Ummm... what in the ever loving cuteness??! First of all, before I even get to my review, I have to say that the first thing I noticed about this book once I started reading it was that had I not known for a fact that this was the author’s debut, I would have never guessed. Not only are the characters well developed, but the writing style is incredibly engaging and seems very mature. For a debut, I can’t help but be impressed to be honest. Moreover, I also can’t help but think that if this is Stanley’s first try at writing a novel, then I honestly can’t wait to see what she comes up with in the future considering the fact that she has now officially become an established author. All the luck to her even though she doesn’t seem like she needs it!

🔹 The characters:
Emily and Eli:
〰 Both extremely adorable. I actually rarely read romances with the “good guy” trope and I honestly don’t know why. Eli was a delight. Emily was also incredibly sweet and I liked everything about her.

Side characters:
〰 Leo and Dean definitely stole the show in my opinion. I actually loved them even more than the main characters here... go figure. I’m incredibly psyched for Dean’s book and I have to say that I was very impressed by how well both his and Leo’s background stories were developed in this installment. Leo has such a huge heart and is such a big teddy bear that I can’t help but want him to forget about Sadie and find someone who will appreciate him now. Also, is Dean’s love interest going to be the “quirky” client that Sadie told him about? If so then I cannot wait!

〰As for Sadie then I absolutely loved her friendship with Em as well as her friendship with the guys. And don’t even get me started on the EmEli groupchat. That was seriously one of my favorite aspects of the book. I also adore the random pov’s given to us from these side characters’ perspectives (which, I usually hate by the way), but I thought they were well done and very amusing in here.

🔹 The plot and the romance:
〰 Although I really enjoyed this (obviously, since I rarely give out 4 and 5 stars- but this has been a very good reading month), I have to say that the romance was a bit rushed. It’s definitely very insta-lovey and the characters get together and say “I love you” way too soon in my opinion. That said, I feel like the author did such a good job creating an amazing friend group that I didn’t care much. Because even though I got a bit bored with the main characters in here (lol), I still had Leo and Deen pulling through and making me enjoy the crap out of this.

〰 As for the actual plot, then I really enjoyed Emily’s past and the way she tried to get past the trauma that came with her previous abusive relationship. I have to say however that I did find it a bit too convenient that both of them happened to be infertile to be honest. I kind of wanted Emily to just be the sort of woman to doesn’t want to have children. I wanted her to have the choice and still show that motherhood is not every woman’s dream. She can obviously still become a mother by adopting but you guys know what I mean... at least I hope that you do lol.

🔹 Final thoughts:
〰 A delight. Delightful book, delightful characters and just an overall delightful read. I will definitely be reading Dean’s book since I absolutely loved the friend group that the author has created in this universe. That said, if you’re looking for the ‘small town’, ‘good guy’ trope, then this is definitely for you. In conclusion, I recommend.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

First off, I gave this book 5 stars only because I couldn't give it more (Seriously so freaking good)...Secondly, how is this the debut book from Lizzie Stanley?  What We Deserve is beyond A-MAZING.  The character development with this story not only the main characters,  Emily and Eli, but the whole crew at Wishbone Tattoos is phenomenal. I never stopped reading it. WWD is all about personal growth after one's personal past and learning to trust and love again.
Eli will melt your heart. His rough around the edges exterior with this incredible caring heart. *swoon*
Emily is this amazingly tough character who just needs to realize her potential after being completely broke down.
Their instant chemistry and slow burn, heat this story up.
The side characters...WOW just wow. I have no words for the excitement I feel to know their stories too. Get to writing Ms. Stanley 😉
Again, I don't know how this is a debut book from Lizzie Stanley because it's written like a pro. Watch out world Lizzie Stanley is here to stay.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my fair and honest review.

DNF at 25%.....

I really wanted to like this book. It seemed like a story right up my reading alley but alas, I just could not get into into it.

For one thing, there was just too much going on with the characters in the 70ish pages I read.

You've got your tattoo artist lead:
description

His tattoo artist cousin:
description

His other tattoo artist cousin:

Notice a trend??

And there's also a gorgeous, friendly female redhead tattoo artist, because there's always a redhead.

You've got English accents.... Louisianan accents, Cajun slang, and American Sign Language happening in this book.

You've got a heroine who is a victim of domestic violence and a hero who has his own "secret" which isn't a secret.

So, basically, there is a lot going on in this book.

While other reviewers loved this book, I just couldn't get into the writing. The first 70 pages weren't great. For me, it just seemed like the author fell into the "telling not showing" trap. Plus, the internal thoughts of Eli, the lead long-haired dude, did not seem authentic....... like at all. He danced the line of cheesy redundancy quite often.

The part that made me stop reading altogether was when I got to the scene where the heroine began confessing her experience with domestic violence to Eli. Sorry, but again, it felt totally inauthentic. She barely knows this guy, and you're telling me a character that is very private and shy and battles with a lot of emotional baggage is going to confess the inner workings of her past abusive relationship to her crush right after a panic attack while at work?? Nope. Not believable.

At that point, this became a 'DNF' for me.

When I was ten pages into this story I messaged Lizzie Stanley to ask when she first started writing.
I expected she would tell me she had written all her life and was astonished when she wrote back, she had these stories in her head and a couple of months decided to write them down.
What We Deserve is a story that you expect from a really experienced writer, not from someone who writes her first book.
I'm positively sure Lizzie Stanley is going to have a great future as an author.

The love story between Emily and Eli is one about healing, about having respect for the other person and support them no matter what. I loved to see them, and their relationship grow. I was so proud to see Emily fight for herself, for her man.
The side characters, one by one wonderful people and I already love them so much.

I really like that the author doesn't hide from sensitive topics. The way she wrote about PTSD and panic attacks were spot on.
I suffer from PTSD and have panic attacks so going into this I was scared it would be very confronting, triggering even but for me it wasn't like that at all. I cried what the characters went through, but it didn't suck me into a downward spiral.

What We Deserve is a well prepared, well build story that happens in a world that is true to life.
The characters are unique, well developed, and realistic. It are people with good & bad qualities, who have problems, and scars (some bigger than others).
It will make you feel so many emotions, from perfect happiness to sadness and pain that will hit you right in the heart.
The characters in this book will make you fall in love with them and they will mark you in the deepest part of your soul.
And when you finish the last page, you will be happy and sad because they will feel like family that you have to let go till the author releases the second book.

I received an ARC in return for an honest review.

I finished this book last night, and I just cannot stop thinking about it. This book is so beautiful, heartbreaking, emotional, painful, hopeful, hilarious, and everything in between. All of the characters are forever engrained on my soul in the most beautiful of ways, and I will never let them go. PLUS, and get ready to be shocked to hell and back, this is this authors DEBUT BOOK. SAY WHAT!? This reads like a seasoned author wrote it, which goes to show that this is an author you should definitely all be looking out for!!

Emily just recently fled from her emotionally abusive, manipulating, piece of shit ex, and is starting to live her life for *her*. She walks past the tattoo parlor by chance, and once she notices they are hiring for a receptionist, she feels as if her life is finally turning around. She gets the job pretty much instantly (even though she haaaaatttttes needles) but she's not only surrounded by amazing co-workers, but by those who will soon become her family. *all the tears!!* Watching her growth just made me cheer for her out loud so many times. As someone who grew up in an emotionally abusive household, I saw so much of myself in her. Her quietness, the way she would curl in on herself and go out of her way to make sure she wasn't a hindrance to anyone around her.. it was like Lizzie was feeling all my thoughts and feelings that I still struggle to this day with. And watching her flourish under the right, perfect, caring kind of love just made me feel *EVERYTHING.*

Eli is the absolute perfect man for her. Right away he's so attracted to her, and feels a pull to her that he can't deny. He has his own reasons for not wanting to ever fall in a relationship ever again, due to having his heart broken by his horrible ex wife, but he just can't help himself when it comes to Em. The dance they do around each other, the will they won't they, the right amount of angst, was just SO amazing! And above all, Eli was genuine in everything he did. He always made sure that Emily knew just how beautiful she was to him, how much he wanted her on every level (which the fact that he was the one who always slowed things down when they got heated because he *knew* she wasn't ready yet made me love him even more) and just how much he respected her made me tear up so many times. He was just the perfect person for her to fall in love with!

As for the other characters -- Leo, Sadie and Dean, are fucking amazing as well. There's no other word to describe just how much I love them so much. Leo and Sadie are so well matched for one another, even if Sadie doesn't see it (which I so can't wait for all the delicious angst headed their way!!) and my baby Dean.. for all he went through, and how fucking strong he is. This isn't really a spoiler, but because of what happened to Dean, he doesn't talk, and when Emily learned sign language right away so she could communicate with him, my already gooey heart melted even more. Gosh, I just love this entire book SO MUCH, and cannot wait until we get more of them. I really loved how we got a snippet of everyone's POV even though this book focuses on Eli & Emily. I thought that was so cool!

There is so much more I want to say about this book, because I loved it just so, so much, but I don't want to spoil it for any of you. Just know that as soon as you start, you won't be able to stop! This is seriously one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. I can't wait to see what else this amazing lady will do next!!

I recieved a Beta version of the book to read, and I am so lucky I got to read this wonderful story in advance of it's release!

Lizzie Stanley has created a world among a group of friends and family with the kind of bonds we all crave. They look out for, protect and care for each other. Eli is just heart meltingly adorable and if you’re like me, the way he was treated by his ex will make you livid.

Emily’s ex is even worse and that is why these two are perfect for one another. They understand what each has been through and that is something that is priceless. While it has made them both gun-shy, the chemistry is undeniable. You’ll find yourself rooting for them to get together and when they do….buckle up!!

I fell in love with every one of the artists at Wishbone Tattoo! Leo is everyone’s favorite type of person. Sadie is the woman I wish I was more like and Dean…well whenever Dean’s book comes out I’m all in! I fell in love with Dean immediately!

I still wish I could crawl into "What We Deserve" and live in that world forever. Every character works their way into your heart and become real, living, breathing people. I cannot wait for more books in the series so I can immerse myself completely!

Updated review - Feb ‘24

I think after a recent re-read, this feels more like a 4 star for me. I do love the characters and Emily/Eli are so perfect for each other, it just feels slightly too fluffy for me now. I think I’m going through a badass FMC phase at the minute and Emily just feels a bit too mild.

Original review - Mar ‘21

5 Stars! I loved this book so much! Finishing it is leaving me with one of the worst book hangovers this year! Amazing debut novel Lizzie!

Emily - she's escaped the clutches of her abusive ex and found a new haven at Wishbone Tattoos. She is one of the sweetest people you'll meet, but carries such a dark shadow over herself in the form of put-downs from her ex, crushing her self-confidence. Upon arriving at Wishbone, she thinks everyone who works there is perfect, if only she how far from the truth it was for each and every one of them.

Eli - a golden heart with a traumatic past, all wrapped up a long haired, Cajun, tattooed and oh so sexy package. He's had the odd casual hook-up before, not lots unlike some (hint hint Leo), but knows when he meets the beautiful new receptionist Emily, that she can never be one of those. That she's it for him. His chere. However can he get over the destructive words his ex-wife left him with, and finally let someone into his heart?

This book has everything for me. Humour, amazing side characters (cannot wait for their books next!), and of course passion. It just draws you into their story so much that I just couldn't put it down!

You'll definitely want Eli as your next book boyfriend...and I might have to claim Dean as mine, even before his book is even out!

No Cheating. No Cliff-hanger. HEA guaranteed.

“Simply looking at you makes my heart happy” 😍🥺

If I could give this 10 STARS I would. That is how much I loved this debut! I can’t even believe it’s a debut, I’m shocked. If you follow my blog you know I’m a fickle b!tch but this book got me in my feels.

I love that Eli is a grown ass man who is protective but knows that Emily can handle her own business and if she needs him, he’s there. He wasn’t this over the top fuck boy.

Emily is so kind & caring. Her ex tried to break her but she’s so damn strong. I love her.

While the attraction between Em & Eli is instant the path to love is a great slow burn magic.

The secondary characters in this are *chefs kiss* I want ALL of their stories, that’s how much I love them. The friendships and family bond is so genuine, you feel it.

I want book two now. I don’t even want to wait.

Team Dean. Oh god, Dean, Dean. My heart. 💔

Ok, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about WHAT WE DESERVE aka, the book you deserve to read, pronto... Your heart will thank you.

“I’m going to fall in love with this woman, I realize numbly. If I’m honest, I’m already halfway there. And there’s not a damn thing I can do to stop it.”

Get yourself a man who says ⬆️ these things and looks at you the way Eli looks at Em...

Because as soon as his eyes dance with hers, Eli, an insanely talented, panty-melting tattoo artist, knows that Em, let’s call her a survivor, is going to change his world. And every single step of the way as she does, indeed, do just that, he treats her like spun gold. Because she deserves it. She deserves it all.

Em. I loved Em. I loved her strength, even more so that it was peppered with so much vulnerability. I loved watching her find herself and regain her footing and lost confidence. I loved, loved her.

And I loved the entire Wishbone crew. Deeply scarred Dean (oh, my poor, broken Dean); sexy, besotted Leo; amazing, sparkling Sadie. I can’t wait to read more about them. That the author was able to make each of these secondary characters so distinct, so fleshed out, so incredibly likable while never, ever losing her razor focus on the stars of this story highlights her masterful grasp on her craft.

Anyways, I loved everything about this quiet, comforting, well-written debut (also, how can this be anyone’s debut?!). After I turned the last page, I was trying to articulate to myself why I loved it so much. And “lovely” and “kind” are the adjectives that kept coming to me. There is so much loveliness and kindness dripping from every single word in this book. Yes, the story is engaging and fast-paced. Yes, the characters are so richly drawn, and complex, and relatable. But they are also so. freaking. good. (There’s a passage when Eli explains how Dean is always going to be a part of his life and that’s that, and it just brought tears to my eyes. I loved that. So. Much. Kindness).

So this was a debut? What did we ever do to deserve such a treat?! Brava, Lizzie! I cannot wait for your follow up. (And it better be about someone whose name starts with a D and ends with an N. ;)

Have you ever read a book and the more you read the more you love it? Every word, every page just makes you smile ear to ear? This is how this book made me feel. Lizzie’s writing is phenomenal! The way she describes her characters is detailed and captivating. She paints a picture while you are reading just perfectly! And these characters I fell hard for!

The characters draw you in! You want to be a part of their crew. Emily, Eli, Dean, Leo and Sadie, these are five people I want to be friends with. They are fun, caring and devoted to one another. Eli, wow, what a guy! Not only is he loyal as all heck but he protects what he loves! He had me wicked swooning throughout the entire book!

This story, there was so much awesomeness going on throughout the entire book! Eli recently got out of an awful relationship and is definitely not looking for love but in walks Emily. Emily is looking for a change in her life. She moves to a new town, and stumbles upon an amazing job, working at a tattoo parlor, where Eli’s happens to work. Two amazing people, attracted to one another, but not pushing the limits of love because of their broken pasts. Can they overcome this and get together? Or will there complicated pasts get in the way of the happy ending that they both deserve?!

I could not put this book down! Lizzie’s writing is amazing. I truly enjoy when an author makes the supporting characters just as important as the main characters and Lizzie Stanley definitely did this! Another thing I loved about this book, is that you clearly were aware of who was talking when. A lot of times when authors use multiple characters you can get confused on who is who. Not Lizzie, she was clear, concise and detailed. She has a lifelong fan in me. I can not wait and am so excited to read what other amazingness Lizzie has to come! This was an absolute must read! Five billions stars deserved!

Book your appointment now because the crew at Wishbone Tattoo are going to leave you with a beautiful mosiac of love, laughter, and friendship forever etched upon your skin!

What We Deserve kicks off debut author Lizzie Stanley's Wishbone Tattoo series with a bang! It is a uniquely different and beautifully written story about two individuals finding the love and happiness they sorely deserve despite the emotional scars left by past painful relationships. Where the right kind of love can heal the the cracks and broken pieces of an already damaged heart, opening you up to a forever kind of love you only ever dreamed about...

I AM FIRMLY ON TEAM ELI AND EMILY!!!! I could not get enough of them. They not only had intense chemistry but they share a deep emotional connection that made them an incredible couple. I was hooked right from the start. They had a slow burn that was adorable and sweet...yet, hot and sexy as hell....

This is a story where every single character (except the bad ones 🤣) brought additional heart to the overall story! Everyone should have friends like the crew at Wishbone Tattoo! Leo, Dean and Sadie are all characters that I simply can't wait to read more about as this series continues!

I absolutely loved this story! It had the perfect blend of drama, humor, and heat to keep those pages turning! Not to mention the best friends who are more like family anyone could EVER WANT! It was a fantastic read that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end!

This gang is going to steal your heart so, I HIGHLY SUGGEST putting it on your TBR and doing it NOW! You'll so thank me later!

What We Deserve is my “Lobster”.
This is the first time I’ve had to stop and start a review in the middle of a book.
My dear Lizzie, this is your debut my girl and all I can say is… mic drop!
Girl this book is truly amazing. You have found your talent and I along with many others have been blessed that you have decided to share this with us.
This I think is my first multi-point of view book, I’m not going to lie I didn’t even realize it was happening until it was too late, that’s how seamless the change in point of view.
With the way this book is written I couldn’t help falling in love with each character. With every point of view shared I became obsessed with each one and wanting to know their story. I felt all the amazing good feels for each one no matter how small their “story” shared is and yes I snot bubble ugly cried a lot too. This book hits deep for me.
I can’t wait to follow you on this journey, your talent will amaze others once they get a hold of this book.
That’s all I can write because I really don’t want to give anything away for this book, I want each reader to really soak up this experience.
P.S the ending was amazing, I truly understand a book hangover today.

Lizzie Stanley is a debut Indie author with her first book. I had the honor of being part of her ARC team, and I loved Eli and Emily story. These two just make there way into your hearts.
This was a beautiful slow burn love story of two characters that finally find they are soulmates, and that they are each other's forever from the moment they met. Unfortunately they both have been hurt, and have their own personal battles to overcome, before they could truly be themselves free to love each other.
I love this Tattoo family Leo, Dean and Eli are cousins that work together as a family in their popular shop. They are super close and they protect what is theirs, including Sadie who is also a tattooist and now Emily becomes part of that team as a receptionist of the parlor.
I love their bantering all together it's halirious, but there's definitely darker more emotional moment intertwine through the book, Eli-EM the chemistry sparks fly their steamy sex is hot, the patience that Eli shows to Emily is so amazing and beautiful, definitely boyfriend material!
This was told in first person POV, but we also have some 3rd person counting from the other secondary characters that I absolutely love, and I can't wait for them to get their own HEA stories. Sadie, Leo and Dean 🥰
One thing I would have liked was a longer Epilogue.
No cliffhanger

ARC was given to me by author, thank you so much! My review is given completely voluntarily 💙🖤!

I was honored to have had the opportunity to be given an ARC from my friend Lizzie. This is my honest review. I am extremely honest with my reviews, whether good or bad regardless.

How does one put into words how I feel about What We Deserve?
Amazing, beautifully written, captivating, I could go on. I don't want to give a lot away so I am going to be as spoiler free as possible.
So lets break it down:

Plot- I will start with I am not typically a fan of romance books as the plot gets lost, turns into all about the sexy time and I have a hard time enjoying the story. I like me some sexy time but still want to have a story to enjoy. Lizzie has changed my mind with her book.
Lizzie does NOT let the story disappear (don't get me wrong, we get steam ;) ). This plot is full of past trauma's and the characters dealing with them, the characters growing from them, and the characters learning to love regardless of their pasts.
Point blank, your past is a part of you but it does NOT define you. This story is loving and empowering! I loved the setting of the book. I felt a part of the tattoo parlor. (I am now dying for another tattoo). I want to go to Wishbone and have all the artists tattoo me with their own styles.

Characters- I LOVED EVERY CHARACTER. I don't want to give too much on all the characters so Ill be brief apart from the MC.
MC: I have never related to a character more. I felt like I was reading my story. Emily has been through a trauma that a lot of people have a difficult time recovering from. But we get to see her grow and find herself. She see's herself as weak but grows more and more empowering throughout the book. Finding love/ family when she didn't know she needed it.
Eli: lordy- he just..mmmm. You had me at tattoos. I love me a big gruff teddy bear that will still rings someone's neck if needed.
Leo: I want him to be real. Everyone needs a Leo in their life. I cant wait to see more of him and his story.
Dean: This character has my heart. I loved him. A character you are going to instantly fall in love with.
Sophie: Sweet and salty. Love her friendship with Emily and of course the others.
You fall in love with each character. They each have their own strong personalities and histories and you can't get enough of them. I love this family.

Writing: This story is written in multi POV. It was perfectly done, giving different perspectives of the story going on. There are scenes that are to be as if you are reading an IM chat between some of the characters, and I loved seeing these parts, showing conversations going on behind the scenes from the main two characters. I have never seen this in a book before. Its something I do with my friends and just made me relate and love them more.

I cannot wait for the next books in the series to read more on the other characters.
I highly recommend What We Deserve. I can't wait to read more from Lizzie.

Lizzie Stanley wrote a book about a real good man not realizing what he still had to give until a real good woman walked into his cousin’s tattoo parlor.

Eli loves Emily in so many ways. He wants it all. The good, the bad, the real, and the messy. He wants you to orgasm and if you don’t, then voice it, because your pleasure is always first and his priority. Round of applause!! He wants to hold your hand and your face, and he may get caught up on his words sometimes, but he is never going to shut you out. I love that he was vulnerable. A gentle giant but could throw down in the bedroom. The way he cares for a particular family member (don’t want to say too much ;) ) will make you believe in finding Mr. Right. His loyalty and intuition is admirable.

Emily has her past too. Just starting to venture on her own, just starting to be herself, she was a bit hesitant to start something, which I found really relatable. Her approach and his pace really worked for me considering their exes. Emily is resilient. She wears her scars emotionally and still wants to help others. Finding her place in this world as an individual was the most important, finding love was the bonus! It’s what they both deserve!

The author writes men covered in ink and heartache and the women that want to love them unconditionally. Get ready to be a part of the Wishbone Tattoo family! They are going to fill your life up with so many good times, to the point the good will outweigh the tragedy!

Shoutout to Eli, Leo, & Dean! Covered in ink, loyal, sexy, vulnerable, & caring!

🖤 “What if…what if I asked you to be mine?” “Then I’d be yours.”

🖤I can’t decide what I want to do first. So I do it all.

Lizzie Stanley is a brand new author on the scene and has released her debut book, What We Deserve.

This book was incredible from start to finish. It’s cute, funny, filled with angst and have you wanting to know what happens next.

Eli Gastright is a tattoo artist in Foxton in the UK with his cousins Leo, Dean and their friend Sadie. They each have their own past but Eli and Dean’s past is filled with pain.

Emily Cole has finally escaped from the clutches of her past and is ready for a fresh start. When she goes to the tattoo parlour down the street from her flat, never in a million years did she expect to get the receptionist job but is offered the fresh start she wants.

The interactions between the characters is golden in this book and made it such a fun read. I was quite often giggling and sometimes even laughing out loud while reading.

The character development for Emily and Eli is phenomenal. They both have to overcome so much and it truly makes for a beautiful romance.

For a debut novel, this book is truly amazing and shows great promise for future works from this author. I can’t recommend this book enough and simply can’t wait to read the next books in the Wishbone Tattoos series!

What a great story. I absolutely adored Eli and Emily. Eli was such a big, muscular softie. And let’s not forget about the fantastic side characters. Team Leo ;)

Between the drama with pesky exes and relationships. It’s plenty to keep you hooked.

The tattoo shop was so fun, and what a great group of friends!

“Honestly, no shit, I want her and Eli to live happily ever after more than I want Christmas.” ~ Sadie (This made me laugh)

“I pull her close, closer, still not close enough, until she is engulfed and wrapped in my arms. This is where she belongs.”

I received this book as an ARC. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5 Beautiful, Wonderful Stars!!
So I finished this book a few days ago and I struggled to write the review for this story because 1) how can I sincerely put into words how much I love this story, and 2) should I even attempt such a feat? What if I don't do this book justice?
Well, I would just have to try...
First, can I just say how much I adored the MCs.
Emily is everything you'd want in a heroine, strong, sweet, sure of who she is and what she wants, and yet, just a little tender, a little gentle... and my heart literally broke for her. All that she had go through and still come out to be this wonderful, wonderful woman... I can't tell you how much I love her. And I think I might have a little girl crush on her.
And then there is Eli...
Eli, Eli, Eli...
He is unlike any hero I have ever read before. Totally hot, totally moody and grumpy, and sweet and loving, and yes, sometimes even shy and unsure. The way he looks at Emily before they even got together, his internal thought process and everything in between. What I loved most is how he acted his age. That he wasn't like other men playing games. That he had been burned from a previous relationship before, and that made him hesitant to jump into this one, but once he, boy, did he ever. The way he stuck up for Emily, the way he showed her how a real man is supposed to treat the woman they love is everything, and I mean everything.
And finally, the way the story was told to tie up all these beautiful, flawed characters.
The story covers some pretty sensitive topics, and one of the most amazing thing about the author's writing is how beautifully she covered it.
Without giving anything away, know that you have to read this with an open mind, that there are some topic that can be triggering, but the author had done such a lovely job presenting it, you realized it's not the trauma itself that is triggering, but the after effect of it all when it's finally said and done. I read the majority of this book at work, and had to try hard to keep the tears at bay.
And the proposal scene!!! GAH!! How absolutely wonderful it was.
Also, I love Dean. I can't wait for his book. I want to fall in love with a Dean of my own. I just want to hold him and tell him everything is going to be okay. I can't wait for him to get his happily ever after, and I can't wait for Leo and Sadie's happily ever after as well.
Read this book if you haven't. I promise you won't regret it.

I cannot even put into words how amazing this book is...WOW! Have you ever finished a book and then cried because you couldn't believe the book was already over? Or you finish a book and go back a couple of chapters just so you are still not done yet? This book will make you regret finishing it. I could not put it down, I had to keep reading even though it was 2:00 am, but I wish I had taken my time and read like a chapter a day so I could keep cherishing this masterpiece.

Emily is starting her life over after finally leaving her verbal and emotionally abuse ex. She gets a job at a tattoo shop and starts to find herself. You will immediately fall in love with her. She is shy and timid and when you starts to break out of her shell and become who she is meant to be is beautiful. I just want to sit and have a glass of wine with her. The way the author described her thoughts, feelings, just everything...you are going on this journey with her.

Eli works at the tattoo shop and becomes fascinated with Emily very fast. He is still emotionally closed off after what his ex wife did to him, but the more time he spends with Emily the more he wants her. He is a big, scary looking dude, but really he is just a soft teddy bear when it comes to Emily.

Emily and Eli both develop crushes on each other thinking that the other one will never go for someone like them. But the heart always wins. It was so cute how they got to know one another and the will he or won't he moments. You read about them falling for each other and all the emotions that go along with that. They start out as friends then slowly turn into something more. The relationship progressed normally. No rushing, getting to know another, and taking their time. That is exactly what Emily needed after her past and Eli was willing to do whatever it took to have her.

Ms. Stanley your writing is beautiful!!! How you tell the events is breath-taking, I felt like I was on this journey with them. I cannot believe this is your first novel...thank you for writing this story!

Also, the side characters...YES!! I cannot wait for their stories to come out. Dean already has a piece of my heart and I know I will sob during his story, and Sadie and Leo better end up together...don't do this to us Lizzie!!! They have to be together!!

HEA: Yes
Cheating: No
Couple Separation: No
OW/OM Drama: No, but the scene with Melissa...yes Emily Yes!! You go girl!!!

Trigger warning: PTSD, panic attacks (written the correct way! No overdoing it, just for dramatic effect), and infertility talk (as someone who went through infertility, great job, nothing bothered me)

All I can say is a Huge Wow !
This Debut ,yes you heard that correctly DEBUT book by Lizzie Stanley is Everything I thought it would be,No actually it was so much better than I could have possibly anticipated.
It does not read like someones first book, its as smooth as silk and effortless the words holding you captivated and the story completlely spellbinding.
This series is based around The Wishbone Tattoo shop and the guys and girls who work there.Have you ever read a book were you really wish the places and the characters really existed.Well this is one of those books for me,I have so much affection for these characters that I wish that they were real.I would be the first in line to get a tattoo at Wishbone.
This is Eli and Emily's romance,I adore their love story its so cute, but it doesn't come with some angst first,as they have both been through a bad relationship in the past, that scarred them mentally.
Emily is starting a new life after moving away from a bad situation and manages to get a job at Wishbone Tattoo parlour as their receptionist. This is were she catches the eye of Eli a gorgeous hunk of a man and tattooist,a gentle giant with emotional scars of his own.Their attraction is so obvious to everyone and I adored reading how they fell in love.
The WhatsApp text group chats were hilarious.
They are a perfect combination as they can heal eachothers pain, and I loved Eli's patience and understanding towards Emily as she fought her emotional demons.
But this book is more than just Emily and Eli because we are introduced to the other characters and we also get glimpses of what Leo,Dean and Sadies stories are going to be.I am already so excited for all the possibilities of what book 2 and maybe 3 will be.I cannot wait for ALL the books in this series,I already know it is going to be one of my favourite series that I will read this year.I cannot stop thinking about Eli,Emily Leo ,Sadie and Dean.
Lizzie Stanley has created an addictive world that I want to live in,her writing is impeccable.I absolutely love discovering a new author whose writing you immediately fall in Love with,it is a dream senario for me.Lizzie Stanley just made that dream a reality.
What We deserve is a Must read its a beautiful and sweet love story about two people overcoming the ghost from their past relationships and exorcising them together and with the help of amazing friends...I want to give it so much more than 5 Stars because it deserves a million.
Phenomenal !!!!
I Highly recommend it.

What We Deserve is a well-told romance and I was surprised to learn that this is Lizzie Stanley's debut novel. From the very beginning, I would have thought that these were the words of a seasoned Author.

This is the story of Eli and Emily, and although the majority of the story is told from their dual POV's, we do occasionally get chapters told from the secondary characters (and I loved that!). Eli is a divorced tattoo artist who works with his cousins. After his ex's parting words, he doesn't believe that he could ever have a happily ever after and has no interest in trying to find one...until he meets Emily. She is running from her past, and neither of them believe that they could find happiness together but they can't deny the pull that they have toward each other.

I really liked both Eli and Emily. These are mature adult characters (late 20-30's) who have faced realistic struggles in life, and I felt like I could relate to them both. The Author did a great job of showing the growth of these characters as they both begin to move beyond their troubled past relationships and realize that they do deserve to be loved.

For me, the secondary characters were as interesting as the main characters in this book, and I look forward to reading their stories. What We Deserve is a solid beginning to the Wishbone Tattoos series, and again, I can't believe that this is a debut novel!

Fleeing from an emotionally abusive relationship Emily moves to a new town where she get a job as the receptionist at a tattoo parlor, Wishbone Tattoos. She loves her new job and all the people she works with. She finds herself a great set of friends in her co-workers but she is having a hard time reining in her crush one Eli, one of the tattoo artists. Eli also finds himself having a hard time denying his crush for Emily. They both have messed up pasts so they don't think they are enough for the other but find that they can't stay away so they don't.

I felt that this was a really great solid book for a debut author. I really enjoyed Emily and Eli. Despite the MCs both having troubled and damaged pasts this was a pretty light and fun read. I had a smile on my face a majority of the time I was reading this one. I thought it was super fun getting to see glimpses of the the other characters as well. I really enjoyed that. I loved the character development of Emily - that she wanted to get better, knew how to take her life back but still had moments of doubt and would back peddle. I loved how she wasn't magically cured - made it that much more real to me. My only real issue is that I felt like we got too much story for the other characters - I feel like it a lot of it could have been saved for their book. But I really loved What We Deserve and would definitely recommend this to readers. I cannot wait for the next one in this series.

So I need to pause and take a moment of silence... This book by Lizzie blew my mind. It deserves more than 5 stars. I was lucky to receive a ARC copy in advance, before the release. Like I need a signed copy of this book because it was so good.

Here we meet two beautiful souls Emily and Eli who both aren’t truly living until they find each other.

Emily who left her old life behind in the dust wants to start over. Just coming off an abusive relationship she wants to truly live for herself. Needing a job she decides to stop by Wishbone Tattoos where a 360 turnaround of her life is about to happen . She meets the gang who work there which provide her a close knit family unit that she hasn’t had in a long time. I loved that Lizzie made this so family oriented. Emily’s work family became the real thing and a awesome support system.

Emily didn’t realize the greatest thing that would walk into her life would be a tall tattooed man with piercing eyes named Eli. He is one of the tattoo artist at Wishbone and any woman’s dream man. Their chemistry sky rocketed right from the first time he heard her voice.

Eli has a broken past as well and was anxious to put himself back out there, but one look at Emily and he was done for. They understood each other so well and Eli helped build Emily back up. He gave her the confidence to be who she was. As you read this your heart will definitely flutter. You might even find yourself tearing up at some parts, but their journey is something you don’t want to miss.

P.S. I can’t wait for the other Wishbone tattoo artists to get their own stories. I fell in love with Leo, Sadie and Dean, but Deany boo captured my whole soul. I can’t wait to see his journey because I know it’s going to be beautiful.

I'm going to be honest. This was a good one for me. It was so good for me, that I've added this to the list of my favorite books on the front page of my blog. That's how good this debut it. I'm not even kidding. My full review is at smuttybooklady.com for this and I go in to a little more detail about why I loved it on the blog.
What made me love it?
These 3 dudes that work at this tattoo shop sound like a bunch of Jason Mamoa types. How could that be wrong? Answer. It can't.
Let's talk about the M/C of Emily. You know I like my female characters a bit hardened and tough. Scrappy if you will. Emily has a great back plot and she really proves her metal throughout the book. I also liked that she was who she was and tried to get back to that. Case in point, her being a gamer "nerd" (her words) and her embracing that even though it wasn't necessarily Eli's thing. This character being somewhat self-actualized made me love Eli even more because he tried to join in and help her hobby along. You won't hear it from me much, but it was sweet and considerate. And it managed to be sweet without becoming beta bitch.
Let's also spend some time on the writing. Dear Lord Jesus, the writing was stellar. This is a debut and I could not love it more. There were a few errors in the last 33% of the book, as if the editor was going through for the 400 millionth time and just glossed over a few things, but nothing so glaring as to detract from the plot. A lot of indie published authors actually do their own editing, and this may have been the case. If so, everyone should be more forgiving because how would you like to read a full length novel literally 75 times during the editing process? Not easy, nor is it fun. So I will definitely give her some grace if that was the case. The writing with the detail and character development was exceptional to the point that I'd read this author's grocery list if she published it. To be honest, I feel like she's a case study in how to properly develop characters and world-building.

I am blown away by this book and I am still in disbelief that this is a debut novel. From the prologue, I knew this was a one that I wouldn't be able to put down and this author would quickly become one of my favorites.

Every character brings something unique to this world and gives the reader such a deeper connection to the story. They feel like real people and not just cookie cutter characters, they truly are unique in their own ways with their own stories. The story weaves in and out between the different characters beautifully showing different perspectives and further insight to the characters' states of minds. This is my first time reading a book that uses perspectives of secondary characters and the bar has been set extremely high. I love this style of writing, but I don't think many authors can pull it off to the degree that this author did.

The storyline itself was brilliant from the backstories to the present day story. This story hits on hard topics that should be talked about and she does it in such a mature way that I appreciate. The chemistry between Eli and Emily was steamy and watching the romance blossom between them was perfection. I laughed, I cried, I wanted to scream at one point or another while reading. It brought out all of the feels.

This book felt like it came from an author who has been publishing books for years which demonstrates the skill set that she has. I couldn't put this book down once I started and I can't wait to see where her writing takes her because I'll be eagerly waiting for the next one.

This is a really great read, especially considering it's the author's debut novel. The characterisation is brilliantly done, you really feel the love this group of people have for each other; Eli and Emily also have a lot of chemistry and their relationship unfolds really authentically.

I found the story engaging, and actually not too dramatic, despite the subject matter. The anxiety and PTSD aspects are well written with a lot of empathy, and Emily's growth throughout the novel is beautifully written; you really find yourself rooting for her to regain her sense of self and beat her demons.

I had some minor quibbles: I loathe prologues that are excerpts from later in the book, I find them spoilery and would rather the tension build naturally without any foreshadowing.

I also felt the three POV interludes by certain supporting characters were unnecessary; it actually had a jarring effect on me that jolted me out of the story while I figured out what was going on. I have never been a fan of multiple POV stories unless there's a clear reason that propels the story forward and I couldn't see how it was needed in this case, especially when the characterisation and writing is so beautifully done. You feel like you know these people, and their intentions come through clearly without needing any insight into their heads.

I did love the WhatsApp group chats though, they added some extra humour to the story and felt much more genuine than the above.

I received an ARC and have chosen to leave an honest review.

*𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞* I am speechless absolutely speechless. Instantly I've fallen in love with this book & series. 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐀𝐙𝐄𝐁𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐒! How is this Lizzie Stanley's debut novel.

This is one hella a beautiful journey with heart wrenching moments but i have never been so fully invested in a book & all the characters i embraced each and every word. 🥰

Everyone deserves an Eli & it's safe to say he's consumed me & is a absolutely SWOONWORTHY GOD!!

"𝓣𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮'𝓼 𝓼𝓸𝓶𝓮𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝔀𝓲𝓵𝓵 𝓶𝓪𝓴𝓮 𝓱𝓮𝓻 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓮𝔁𝓬𝓮𝓹𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷 𝓽𝓸 𝓶𝔂 𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓭 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓯𝓪𝓼𝓽 𝓻𝓾𝓵𝓮..."

Girl crushing over here. Emily is a true natural beauty inside and out, whose harboring pain and torment from a previous relationship. But can we appreciate her kindless, lovable nature because what she does for Dean has my heart swooning & feeling all the emotions.

Emily & Eli's lust, connection and passion is friggin mesmerising and enchanting. Eli is one beautiful human who is able to capture his protectiveness and put her needs first.

Each of the characters plays a vital role and honestly i friggin love their whole dynamics together. From Leo, to Sadie to my boo Dean these characters connect with your soul and are squad goals 😍

I am absolutely in love with the series!
Lizzie you smashed it gurl friggin outstanding!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️5/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WOW, that was one hell of a beautiful emotional story that made me tear up and smile at the love that Eli and Emily shared.

This was a perfect story that would make everyone believe that the fate always brings two people together for a reason.

After four years of emotional abuse, Emily finds herself in front of the tattoo shop where she lands the job immediately and finds her happily ever after with one of the owners who also has a broken past. With that they both have something in common however once they realize that there is more that shows how much they are alike and why their past with other people didn’t survive, their love for each other gets even stronger.

I absolutely adored this story and the characters in it, it was full of passion, emotion and twists.Eli and Emily’s story is beautiful and I hope that the author will let us know what will happen to others. I’m curious if Leo and Dean will both get their happy ending and overcome their struggles ❤️
