The biggest challenge when we read Ashley Jade is not to immerse ourselves in the story she gives us, but to emerge from it, as equally while reading as when we turn the last page. Not only this is particularly true with Complicated Parts, she also exceeds all expectations on every levels, no exception. I was looking forward to the second part of this extraordinary Series, but I never thought I would almost become a slave to every word in this book, hungry for more at every page I’d flip. And that more I’d read, more intensified the addiction would become rather than calm down. As it’s always the case with Ashley Jade, but this time, there was indeed something different.
Because there is no artifice in Complicated Parts. No special effects. It's a story based on two characters with complicated parts that decides to start an even more complicated journey. Yet, it’s one of the stories that’s obsessed me the most, got under my skin like not too many succeeded to do. And not this way.
From the very first two pages, you are drawn in at the speed of a typhoon ravaging everything in its path. Heck, a real F5 Tornado and that, before you even get the chance to take your next breath between the array of emotions you feel. And THIS torpidity linger from page one untill the last. In fact, as physically impossible as it may be according to the laws of physics, the storm only escalates as you move ahead in the story. Everything becomes more intense. Our connection with the characters; Preston and Kit’ connection; the emotions they make us go through... Because you don’t fall for them, you literally *crash* in love with them. Their story becomes our story. Their torments, ours. Their confusion and uncertainty, their emotions and flaws, their strengths and heartbreaks... Everything about this book capture us into its web. Once you open it up, everything ceases to exist around us, only to focus on everything #KITON; there’s only Ashley's incredibly beautiful words.
Kit and Preston’ story is uncommon but add to that Ashley Jade’s extraordinary pen, so unique and mesmerizing, passionate and enticing... The experience rapidly becomes purely mind blowing. She redefined through Preston and Kit the notion of carnal chemistry. Because for two characters whose parts do not fit together, their chemistry is so f$cking intense, it transcends the law of physical attraction. THAT’S definitely the beauty of Complicated Parts. Preston and Kit’s connection is special. If there’s something called ‘love at first sight’, I would describe what Kit and Preston has as ‘soul mates at first sight’; This soul connection is what makes them reach out to one another. Even when obscured with anger, resentment and deceit, they can’t help but feel it, reaching them as far as into the depth of the night. It’s this connection that draws them to one another, drives their desire to know more of the each other, how they offer themselves over, no second thoughts... And that, even when everything else about them doesn’t fit.
“I’m his exception and he’s my anomaly” ~Kit
And THAT’s something I’ve rarely seen before; when their bodies connect, any way it can be, it‘s driven by this soul connection; that's how they belong. They GIVE and FEEL each other. Protecting, saving, and caring. Catching one another when they fall. This is why their chemistry is incredibly powerful. It’s palpable, relentlessly holds us breathless, keeping us on the edge of a turmoil of emotions and has us simultaneously feel everything they do. It transcends the pages to reach our own soul.
This book made me laugh, cringe, got me angry, broke my heart, kept me on the tip of my chair, turned me on, frustrated me and the most important of all, got me hook completely because I loved every single part of it, even the most complicated one.
Complicated Parts is what I feel, will be the most beautiful story Ashley Jade has ever written. Don’t get me wrong, each of her books has deepness and are extraordinary AF. But this one is different. It’s about how she managed all the complicated parts like a maestros, starting with the characters themselves—broken, full of flaws yet, so compelling and with whom you can’t help but falling in love—mastering their background and issues... and reinvented completely the definition of slow burns; because it might be a slow burn, but it’s one with the intensity of the flame of hell, wrapping you from the head to the tip of your toes. It’s insanely addictive, yet sinfully beautiful.
Ashley Jade might be the Queen of angst, something she confirmed again with this book, because it’s definitely hanging, but she is first and foremost, a Master in the art of bringing to life characters bigger than nature. She knows how to deliver their story in a way she can break our heart in thousand of pieces but also heal our shattered soul when she had us gone through the highest highs and lowest lows. With her, it’s never about the destination, always the journey.
And I can’t wait to read the conclusion in book 3; not just because I want to know what’s going to happen but because I can’t wait to ‘see’ them again.
“I’m not a good person and most of the time I deserve the bad shit that comes my way, but Kit’s my proverbial line you don’t cross.
Not unless you have a death wish.”—Preston
