What an inspirational woman. Not gunna lie, when Shelley Taylor Smith, (one of my teenage idols) followed me on social media, I nearly fell off my chair. When I found her book in a 2nd hand book store a few weeks ago, I literally squeeled with glee! I thought I knew her story, but reading this autobiography has me fan girling all over again. There’s so much to learn from this autobiography. From information about the actual swims, the history of marathon swimming in Australia, the challenge of being a female in this incredible sport, the psychology of getting the job down, and the importance of keeping a balanced life whilst also aiming for your goals. I only wish I had an edition that had been re-printed or updated in the last two decades so I could read more about her Sydney to Newcastle attempt, or one with my own name on the autographed title page 😂 (Thanks to ‘Louise’ whoever and wherever she may be, for paying forward the gift of being able to read this book! )
