The country is fighting losing battles upon both coasts and from within as the desperate and the despicable fight for diminishing resources. World War II is a full-blown nightmare for the survivors of the initial attack. American forces have been pushed to the brink and have been forced toward the center of the country in a frenzied bid to regroup and strike out, fending off the aggressors before it is too late and she falls completely under enemy control. Darlene Bobich and her group struggle to elude capture from the Sawyer clan, hell-bent on enslaving everyone in sight. Meanwhile, Mike, BT and what remains of the National Guard forces are caught up in a multi-national conflict that could spell the end of the American way.
Can our heroes escape and can anything be done to turn the tide of a war that looks all but lost?
Why Mark Tufo paired himself with this author-wannabe is beyond my understanding. Poorly written, too many inconsistencies and boring. The idea behind this trilogy could make a great tale if it was approached differently. I’m on to reading the third book in the series only because my OCD is forcing me to.
Tufo’s co-author is awful. Forgettable characters, so-so plot, and no humor. Too many clichés as well. A “white supremacist militia?” Are you kidding me? It would number maybe a half-dozen in real life as white supremacy has left the building in reality. The narrator for the co-author is also below average.
I give Tufo & Runnette 5 stars. The rest is 2 stars. The average is 3 stars because Tufo’s portion of the book seems a lot less than the other.
The US is being attacked by numerous enemies for example North Korea, China, Russia and who knows who else. Mike ,BT and Yonts are tasked with getting civilians to safety, meanwhile the Sawyer clan is trying to take control over everyone they come across, murdering neighbours and anyone else who stands in their way. Much later both groups have suffered losses and are fighting for survival. The US is on it's heels and things look bleak but never say die so looking forward to the next book to see how all our favourite characters make out in this character driven, emotionally charged tale
Another amazing series by two of my favorite authors
This series is a bit different from my normal reading but Mark and Armand have gotten me hooked! Love that Mike and BT are in this series! I feel as if I personally know all the.characters and I root for some and hope others get what's coming to them. Cannot wait for the next book! I hope it is coming out soon! Thank you both for amazing writing and an intriguing story!!
Staging and action for Darlene are horribly bad. Several times a character was in a tree in one sentence, then face down in the dirt in the next. Character gets out and leans against the truck then the truck stops and the character gets out and walks accross the road. It's mine bogglingly bad.
I love Mark Tufo books and this collaboration is a great one. I am throughly engrossed in this apocalyptic US where our own people are our worse enemy. And I enjoy the multiple story lines all happening at the same time. I can't wait to see what happens next!
After a 5-year wait from the unwelcome cliff hanger ending of the first book, I was REALLY hoping that this one would bring the story to a conclusion. No such luck. Considering I had to re-read book 1 to remember the story this one was going to continue, I don't think I'll feel like reading books 1 and 2 again in 2026, when the next installment is likely to drop.
While the story overall is intriguing. The story in this installment tends to ramble on during most of the character building while also not really adding any value to the characters. While I don’t mind a story not being completely finished, a cliffhanger is the laziest way to end a story—whether part of an ongoing series or not. Do better boys!
You can't go wrong with Mike and BT. I love these characters. Way to go Mark.
I did not care much for the other story. It was not bad, but the characters did not really have any personality to them that grabs you. Still a cool concept.
Didn't even bother with the other guy's chapters, only here for the Tufo. 3 stars could have been 5 if all 3 books were rolled into one book of Mike Talbot chapters and the other author wrote his own, seperate book.
If the last one was a 3, this one is not like a 2.5… This is more of a transitional tale, with no recap of the first book and no real goal in the end. Even so, the story is now at a point for some interesting things may occur.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I've been fully entertained by this series too, the only downfall (or lack of a better word) is that it seemed to end quite suddenly again... Overall I'm really looking forward to the final installment to this awesome trilogy.
