Tommy is a firefighter goes on a vigilante mission after the death of his sister under mysterious circumstances. Tommy is tough and an essentially charismatic individual but he is an ex-felon right out of Attica now he needs to con his way around, get a copy of his sister’s case and set out to take the killer down….this story tells us the trail he took to achieve his goal….
You have to leave your believes behind to enjoy this unbelievable story if not you will think it totally ridiculous….The protagonist is somewhat a jerk who acts like nothing fizzes him, manipulates a young FBI Agent to help him. He hits obstacles one after the other but manages to come out alright….
All this said in a very choppy ways: short sentences and short chapters, the dialogue is even more ratatata adding intensity and excitement for us to keep flipping the pages for the outcome…will Tommy succeed or fail? Action galore.
I wasn’t sure at first if I liked this story where helping veterans get organs someone needed to die and where did Tommy’s sister fit in the equation, yes, we do have an answer…I will assure that when this fast and furious story exploded mid way I was totally hooked. This is one story you need to take one bite at a time to enjoy.
In whole: “Sky’s Shadow” is an enjoyable read
Thank you, Mr. Galdi for providing me with a copy of your book
Tommy Dapino - a character so utterly flawed and down right unlikable - made this bad work of fiction even worse. Maybe this was supposed to be written for sixth graders, but each and every little event in this book is so ludicrous that its not fair to any reader that they should have to suspend disbelief and expect a head strong , psychopath ( he fits the defintion to a T) Tommy can miraculously perform feats that not even James Bond could on his best day. Even the ending was over the top absurd - a character that is shot, run over , suffers broken leg, broken collar and severe blood loss - is standing on a crutch waiting on visitors instead of in a hospital bed recovering. I've enjoyed some of Ted Galdi's other stories - I can't believe this was really written by the same author. Don't believe any of the reviews over two stars - this one is a stinker from start to finish. Ted must really really have some sort of beef with the FBI to portray them as the Keystone Cops on acid like this. Like another reviewer - I have a code where I finish each book I start - this book may finally cure me of that and learn to just chalk up a loss and move on. I don't generally leave reviews good or bad .. but for my fellow avid readers out there.. you deserve better and the least I could do is warn you off.
I finished it. Proud of myself for that. Couldn’t get into it. Tommy basically is a jerk. I can understand why he wants revenge. But the way he goes about it leaves something to be desired. The FBI will not go rogue and work with you as portrayed. They will not put their jobs on the line the way both agents did. When did Tommy become a perfect mimic? Broken leg and collarbone and shot and he still wants to chase the bad guy? Imitates the other bad guy perfectly after all the above has happened to him? I know this is a work of fiction but there are limits on how much I will suspend disbelief. Not recommended.
Tommy Dapino is up there with Jack Reacher and Sam Bishop. For me to say that is a high accolade. This author presents a well written novel. His main character is just how I like them, cheeky, great humourist, intelligent and quick. He swept me off my feet and through a thrilling adventure. His past is questionable after a brilliant career as one of NY's finest firemen. He does his own thing and never let's go. Meeting Jordana changes his path but not his character. Looking forward to the next in the series. Thank you Ted.
The lead character, Tommy Delpino, is a likeable guy but a real dumbshit. He's got great insight but zero common sense. That's the kind of thing that gets you killed. And almost does, on more than one occasion. Then a young FBI Agent, Jordana Quick seems to think more with her feelings rather than the training she's gotten. In this make believe world you can act that way and live. But not in fiction based on real life. A senior FBI Agent who listened to Tommy gets killed and Tommy's response? I'm sorry. I'm really sorry! WTF?
I thought the characters had potential but acted like an after-school play. The plot has real potential but falls short. Not a bad book. Just not a great one.
I believe this is the first book I have read from this author and I quite enjoyed it. The main character, Tommy, is a flawed hero looking for justice for his murdered sister. He is an ex-firefighter, ex-con who has served prison time and is working as a handi-man for an apartment building. He learns of the death of his sister and sets out to find the responsible party. He is very spontaneous in his actions and is able to find out things the FBI are unaware of. I did not like the way he injected himself into the FBI operation and the outcomes of his actions. I was surprised that he is flawed and that he obtained consequences for his actions. Some authors would have writen to be unscathed. I enjoyed the book and the the action-packed flow of the writing. Reality must be suspended in order to enjoy the book. Thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy. All opinions are my own.
Tommy is a complex character I found hard to like. Because of his mother's actions, he has a negative view of women. He was (in my opinion) unjustly jailed in a maximum security prison, which did nothing for his temperament. He is also a compulsive liar.
Despite all of his negative traits, Tommy is someone I would like to have watching my back in a tight situation. Once he gets his teeth into something, he won't let go. He has a very logical brain and can thing outside the box. He will do whatever it takes, regardless the legality, to see that justice is achieved.
This is the start of a new series for Ted Galdi and I look forward to reading the rest.
I received a free copy of Sky's Shadow (Tommy Dapino, #1) through BookFunnel and have chosen to leave a review.
Tommy Dapino, a former New York City Fire Fighter with attitude, heads west to investigate the death of his sister who was murdered under strange circumstances. So, the story gets underway and Tommy finds himself trying to help the FBI investigate the incongruous murders of a number of addicted homeless folk, opening an intriguing case of murders for body parts! With the gift of the gab, Tommy talks his way into and out of a number of situations that he finds himself in, associated with the FBI team investigating the unfolding murders. An enjoyable read with plenty of twists and turns to maintain interest, culminating in an opportunity for the future that you will not see coming, but should encourage to follow this author and character.
A thoroughly enjoyable, intriguing, roller coaster, multiple murder novel involving a flawed hero and antagonists who have a warped sense of right and wrong. Lots of extra judicial action involved not to mention the dilemma faced by those who try to operate within the constraints of the law. In a moral lesson the author's script suggests that we often have erroneous preconceived perceptions which can lead to poor decision making. The author manages to keep the high tension atmosphere of the novel going until the final denouement leaving the reader eager for the next novel in the series.
This is a great introduction to Ted Galdi’s new character, Tommy Dapino. Tommy’s sister turns up dead along with 4 other drug addicts. He sets out to find her killers, but is told not to interfere by the FBI. He cannot let go of trying to find her killers and is hassled by a female FBI agent. He searches out the killers, but needs the help of a female agent when he becomes trapped by the killer. Enjoy
This book is definitely a MUST READ! Intrigue, romance(yuck), lots of action and hardy souls. Not only are the main characters dead on, so are the criminals! And they both flop places. Got to read this author to understand. I’m definitely getting the rest of his books and following him.
Tommy is an ex fireman and an ex con. When he finds out that his sister died a violent death, he decides that making the people that killed her pay is his new mission in life. He runs up against the mob and up against the FBI. Tommy will have to stay one step ahead of all of them to get the revenge he is seeking.
I'm in two minds about whether or not I like the main character. At some points in the story I think he's great but at other times I think he's an idiot. I guess he's your typical flawed hero. I enjoyed the whole story though and it had a decent ending which I approved of.
When Tommy’s sister is murdered, he will stop at nothing to find her killer. Non-stop adventure from beginning to end. I enjoyed the story, the author has a good sense of giving his readers a chance to feel like they are right there.
Great storytelling and a good start, Tommy Camino series. I looking forward to reading more of this intriguing guy life. Worthy read and it seems to be going in a suspenseful direction.
Well written story about a former firefighter who served time in prison so can never be a firefighter again. He travels to California to investigate his sister's murder and ends up trying to help the FBI hunt down a serial killer. Great read
Very interesting story about a fireman who spent two years in prison for a crime he did not commit and then loses his only sister when she is murdered. He is determined to find and punish her killers.
And.....such a great character. Tommy hits obstacle after obstacle and manages to come out the other side. Maybe California is a good fit for him. The moral of this story is......don't mess with a protective brother!
Noir/pulp fiction. This young author is gutsy enough to keep pumping out this very realistic fiction. In his last interview, he was asked if it was based on his experience, but he said no. He's going far. Right now, I'd say co-writing with James Patterson isn't a stretch. I am blown away by his short stories. 😳 Don't pay attention to the negative comments. I'd like to see them cook up some of this riveting Bond-like 🎬 action!
This book started with a bang and ends with a shootout. It was easy to read and flowed well. A page turner. Tommy wanted vengeance for his sister’s death and he goes about it full steam not caring who gets hurt. Well worth reading. I received a free book and the views and opinions are my own.
I gave this a four because it kept my interest thru out in spite of being too long. I think it helped that I could identify with Tommy and not the bureaucracy.
