Bruce Anderson has a dark past. He was forced to move away and abandon all of his relationships when his lover, Marshall Grady, threatened to expose him in a fit of jealous rage. One of those relationships was with Jackson, Marshall’s son.
That was years ago, and Jackson is nineteen now. He’s in college and is trying to make a life on his own. It’s hard, though. He doesn’t have much money and is forced to live off of the help of others when he runs away from his controlling father.
When Jackson finally gets to know Bruce again after so many years, he’s thrilled, but he’s also scared because he has thoughts and feelings he can’t control. When he was younger he’d always thought of him as a father figure, and now he sees him as the kind of lover he desperately needs … a Daddy.
When Bruce takes Jackson into his home the tension becomes very intense, because Bruce has deep feelings for Jackson as well. Secret feelings he vows never to ever act on.
Jackson knows Marshall spied on him. He says it was to protect him from Bruce, but Jackson finds out that most of the things his dad told him about Bruce were lies. Bruce doesn’t dare tell Jackson everything though … because he knows full well there is some truth mixed in.
Bruce has dark desires that he has tried to suppress for years, but his secret feelings for Jackson bring them all up to the surface. He can’t stop thinking about the young man and all the things he wants to do to him. But the last thing Bruce wants is to hurt Jackson, who he used to mentor and care for.
The closer Bruce and Jackson become the harder it is to deny their deep connection. But Bruce cannot let himself go. He know’s if he loses his grip the sadistic Dom side of him will emerge and he will lose all control. He knows no matter how much Jackson begs and pleads he won’t be able to stop himself from his desire to inflict pain and suffering on the young man he loves so deeply.
Sugar Daddy: A Dark M/M Age-Gap Romance was previously published as Sugar Daddy: A Taboo Mpreg Series by X Collins, and has been extensively rewritten and edited. It is a dark romance of 44,000 words with themes of BDSM, humiliation, age-gap, and 24/7 relationships
The ideas behind this book were good… I just wished everything was more fleshed out. I feel like as a reader I was jumping from one scene to the next one fast.
Not that dark, not that sexy - I expected some super steamy depravity. I’ve read much darker AND much sexier, and the characters and plot line were meh. It was just not my cup of tea.
First, I read the scrubbed ‘zon version. So my review is based solely on that version of the book. There is no way you can convince me this book was extensively edited with all the grammar errors. You’re/your there/their/they’re. Yikes! Second, characters are not developed well. I think with a longer book these guys could’ve been a pretty great story. Third, everything is rushed. Scenes jumped ahead with no concept of time. One minute they’re struggling with a situation the next page it’s well in the past.
It wasn’t dark, that might be due to ‘zon scrub. It wasn’t much of a romance. You could tell the hints of what originally made it taboo, which if they’re longer and fleshed out better might actually be worth buying one on smashreads to test out.
I actually think I would’ve stopped reading if it had been a longer read. As it is it took a little over an hour. I gave it three stars because I hope it was only meh due to the scrub.
Sugar Daddy is an enjoyable dark age gap romance. I was glad to see more of this world. Jackson is now an adult and trying to get out of his father's control. While staying at a friend's house, Bruce, Jackson's father's ex, shows up. It's been ten years since they've seen each other. Jackson was sad when Bruce left so long ago but is so glad to have him back in his life. I loved Jackson and Bruce together. Bruce tried so hard not to let his feelings for Jackson get in the way of him wanting to care for the young man and show him a side of himself Jackson didn't know about. Bruce and Jackson had to deal with Jackson's father, but in the end he got what was coming to him. I recommend this book and can't wait for more. *I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Bruce was like a father finger in Jackson’s life until he suddenly was not. When he gets the chance to reconnect with him years later, he grasps at the opportunity. But, there is more than just their old father/son dynamic brewing between them and it’s up to them to explore where it will lead. Obstacles and their own selves hinder them and it’s up to them to navigate a path to their future.
This was a riveting story to get engrossed in. The characters and their dynamic was well plotted. The scenes were tastefully done and the ending suited them well. An engrossing read for those who enjoy a bit of taboo in their tales.
DNF 78% I found the older main character, Bruce, despicable and not in a hot way. There was too much time spent on him being a bad person (the whole underground prison thing was WTF) and not enough developing of his relationship with Jackson—which is what the book is supposed to be about?? I went in expecting a sexy dark BDSM time, and instead I’m most of the way through the book and I feel like I’ve only had one truly hot BDSM scene with Jackson and Bruce. There’s so much back and forth with the inner dialogue and miscommunication. If the erotica was great, I could put up with it, but the sexy times aren’t doing it for me and I can’t connect with the characters at all.
I just love a good hurt/comfort, age-gap, and dark romance. Three of my favorite tropes. Bruce and Jackson are reunited after being separated for years after Jackson's dad, Marshall, and Bruce broke up. Now all grown, Jackson is thrilled to be back with Bruce but now he has feelings for his dad's ex and they enter into an affair. Secrets emerge and danger lurks around the corner. Bruce and Jackson get their hard earned HEA and I got my epilogue. Side characters get their own story in book 2 so the fun continues. I highly recommend this series.
Technically it is dark & taboo. Well not as dark as I expected, but it was certainly taboo. Sex slavery, non/dub-con, and extreme BDSM are featured in this book and the rest of the books under this pen name. I liked how daring and extreme it was. As to the smex, however, I just wasn't completely sold on how they were executed. The writing basically breezed right through them. I also couldn't really get a feel for the characters. So yeah. It's just 3 stars for me.
This book was kind of taboo and I didn’t mind it. Jackson lost his stepdad at a young age because his dad decided to file for divorce. Jackson’s stepdad Bruce doesn’t see Jackson again till years later and the line between son/father and lovers blur. Overall I wished it had been a little longer and had a little more character development but I liked it regardless.
Some of his books are harder for me, but they are all well written and simply prove that everyone is different and if we are all going to be happy we need to learn to coexist. To each his own and as it's concentual and in their own space than live and let live. Thiß book was easier for.me. it was about love and having the courage to go after it.
Jackson and Bruce. Bruce is Jackson's father's ex so it's a bit complicated, but they love each other so much it's sweet, but then kinda also not sweet with the bdsm sadism thing going on. Bruce is a Dom and Jackson wants to be his sub. Heat level like 3/5 First person point of view. Duel points of view
I enjoyed this story. I really liked Bruce and Jackson. I liked their relationship and I liked viewing their world. I think that it was entertaining and helped me forget the real world. I received this as an arc and freely left this review.
The story is pretty low burn and light on dark side. The development of the two main MCs could be more intense. Would be interesting to have more in sub basement if there are more books coming out in the series.
For being extensively rewritten I gotta say I’m unimpressed. The characters are one dimensional, the storyline is meh, and even the BDSM and steamy scenes are lackluster.
I am an epic fan of dark and taboo so I was so wanting to love this book! I would have liked to know more about Bruce, would have enjoyed more description in the steamy scenes (i.e. the first one involves orgasm torture but all we know and “see” is the massive vibrating plug, the restrains, and that Bruce does something that causes Jackson to get hard over and over). I wanted to see this scene half from Jackson’s POV and half from Bruce’s. It would have been so insightful to see where his mind went and how he thought as he gave free reign to his sadistic side. Also, it’s mentioned that Bruce is highly turned on by psychological torture, yet that aspect is never demonstrated. Humiliation is, but that’s not the same thing. There was also zero punishment/discipline shown which is unusual for a book that has BDSM.
Honestly, the inner turmoil Bruce exhibits doesn’t strike me as authentic for a sexual sadist that seems to like being called Daddy? I wouldn’t call him a sadistic Daddy Dom at all, but that’s just me. If you want a good book that shows off sadism where there is a sadistic Daddy and Dom that gets off on psychological torture, you should read Breathless by Cara Dee. I would recommend the Touch series, also by Cara Dee that showcases many of the more extreme aspects of BDSM.
Overall I felt the story premise has fantastic potential, but I am disappointed with this story. I hope that this writer improves their descriptions so that those of us who revel in the dark side can be satisfied.
Dark/Kink Scale rating is 4.5 for lite orgasm torture, lite embarrassment humiliation, lite whipping, and lite prostate milking. I deem them lite because the scenes aren’t very descriptive or intense.
Books 1,2,3 Book contains Taboo MM Mpreg Incest -blood incest between father and son, dubious consent gang bang, punishment, humiliation, knotting. Alpha Omega Beta Non shifter. Mentions BDSM, sexual slavery, and sexual torture.
Enjoyable Entertaining Reads. Only for those who are able to look past the Taboo situation of the books and the other situations that arise during reading them.
