Jett Johnson has always felt inadequate next to her petite, light-skinned, slender twin sister, Nic. At six-feet-tall, a size 22, and flawless obsidian skin she has always been cast aside for her sister in their community, among men, and even their own mother. If she had to hear "You're TWINS?!" one more time, she'd scream.
The final straw comes when Jett finds her sister in her bed with her husband. Fed up and ready to leave everything behind in NYC, Jett decides to start over in Portland, Maine of all places.
The Past
Believed to be dead after an epic battle, Viking chieftain Jerrik Rolfson is given a funeral fit for a king. The only problem is, he's not dead. The poison coursing through his veins has left him paralyzed and unable to speak. At the mercy of the deadly sea, his body is carried into a mysterious fog.
Their Times Collide
On her daily morning walk in her new town, Jett finds a charred and badly broken longboat capsized against the giant rocks along the coast of Maine. Lying inside appears to be one of the most beautiful and biggest men she's ever seen. Finding him still alive, she jumps into action to get him help.
Once he's awake, Jerrik finds himself in a strange place surrounded by strange people. Only the stunning dark-skinned woman he'd seen in what he thought was his dreams could calm the massive Viking.
Jett doesn't know if the large man is crazy or delusional. But wanting to help, she's now found herself as the sole caretaker of a giant man who believes himself to be a Viking Laird from the past.
What could possibly go wrong?
Bound Through Time: Present is the highly anticipated second book in the Viking Brothers Series. Filled with laughs, adventure, danger, and heat. Perfect elements for an epic time travel romance.
I was born and raised in Joliet, IL. I wrote my first story in the 3rd grade and fell in love with creating my own world. But throughout the years I have lacked the discipline to actually sit down and write. Even with a minor in Creative Writing (which should have been my major). I have been a avid romance novel reader since Jr. High and have read hundreds. I have lived in Chicago, Japan, California and now reside in Arizona. And I wanted nothing more than to combine my love of romance, writing and traveling and put them in a book. So one day out of the blue while in the middle of reading another book, the story that I had started months ago kept bombarding my every thought. Until I couldn't even continue to read the book I was in the middle of. I put down my Nook and picked up my laptop and about fifteen days later, I had finished my first draft of my manuscript. It was the most exhilarating moment of my life. To know that I finally did it. That I finally finished something that I had started. And now I'm and AUTHOR and PUBLISHER! I never would have thought that was possible three months ago. I just hope that everyone that picks up any of the books I write from here on out, enjoy them as much as I did writing them.
What's the point in centering overweight women in your romance if in every romance, the woman is insecure, no self-esteem and is treated like crap by everyone in her life?!? What was the reason!!!! Nobody wants to read that over and over and over again. It's exhausting and it's unfair to the readers who are looking for positive representation in romance for plus-sized characters.
Jett was exhausting. I had zero sympathy for her. Blame the author. I'm tired of plus-sized heroines being the brunt of cheating and abuse. Why can't they be happy in life, dating and looking for love?!? Like how skinny people are written? Why is there always trauma and said trauma leads to massive insecurity? Every. Single. Time.
Chemistry between Jett and Jerrick was ruined due to her insecurities. Jerrick was great. For an 11th century Viking, he assimilated to 21st century life quite seamlessly. A little too seamless but whatever.
I'll read Dag's book because I'm invested to see how all this ends. I hope that his love interest is a firecracker who is fat and fabulous.
This story was so worth the wait and yes I did read it in one day! I absolutely LOVED Jett and Jerrick's story. Gosh, Jett really deserved everything good that came her way. And Jerrick......good God! The writing is so good that I want my own Viking from the 11th century...lol. Another pleasant surprise was that there were so many funny lines in this story and I wasn't expecting that. Jett's mom...trash!!! Jett's sister...utter trash!!! So glad they got what they deserved at the end. I really want a story for Dag and some crossover where Jerrick, Jett, Thorin, and Elle link together. I really hope the author considers this. Overall, this was a fantastic read and I really hope this series continues!
Oh man, I loved this story. It was absolutely prefect for my mood and what I wanted to read. I giggled, swooned, and blushed for about 85% of this book. The other 15-ish% was Jett's ex, her looser sister, her ridiculous mother, and her weak father. They could have all kicked rocks! But Jerrik was practically perfect. I loved him. Jett was a little indecisive at times, but when I put my "realistic" hat on, and not my, "of course he's a time traveling 11th century Viking, just go with it already!" hat, I understood her reservations. I loved this one. Happy reading!
Holy Sh!t this story was spectacular!!! Jett was simply existing, not truly living and definitely not enjoying her life. She walked in on her rotten, useless, cheating husband and cruel, envious, b!tch of a sister having sex. Her self-hating disrespectful mother still found a way to blame her for their deception! I CAN’T EVEN!
When she decided to start over in Maine, her life truly began. After saving a giant Viking that oozed sex appeal, she blossomed into a gorgeous butterfly despite what her dysfunctional family and evil ex believed.
The story is definitely going into my re-read pile. I highly recommend this book. Worth 10 stars. Exceptional writing!
I enjoyed this storyline and the main two characters. I love her friend Dez and I hope she gets hooked up with the other brother Daz. Her sister and her ex got just what they deserved. I hope it is not s long wait for the next book. I hope at some point all the brothers get back together.
***Some spoilers*** After Norseman Jerrick Rolf’s son is poisoned and believed dead, his mourning family sends him adrift to Valhalla, but when he opens his eyes to the beautiful goddess Freya, she informs him he may be in a different world, just not the one he thought.
(Disclaimer: verbal abuse, adultery, bullying, colorism) There were many fun things about this story, but I really wish I liked the book more. When I began the first book, Jerrick piqued my interest immediately. I was attached to him so I was delighted to find out he was getting his own story—- a strong decisive leader, opposite someone who truly needed to understand her value and worth. Unfortunately, almost from the onset, the consistency of what an 11th Cent person should or shouldn’t know in the 21st Cent was off and glossed over, then conveniently remedied, which made for plenty of fodder, if nothing else. However, the most glaring issue was the whole “going back” argument, which became very manipulative in the end. Like a carrot Jett continued to dangle and snatch away. The more she jerked him around, the more it felt less like apprehension and logical concern but rather, just a way to prove that someone was willing to give something up for her. She was a character with years of traumatic issues surrounding people she loved and hoped to be loved by. Trying to be understanding and sensitive to that, does not make her exempt from repeating the same actions and mistakes. It seemed to me that she used that against someone who knew love, showed love and wanted to return to love. A love that would have embraced Jett but she wanted Jerrick to give that up, while she remained in toxicity. Autonomy is important and choosing the life you want, has merit, but how she chose to assert herself never come across as powered by the right motives. Time travel stories love to use childbirth as an easy out (loophole) that at times works but in this case had very little emotional depth. One, because Jett seemed to have little respect for Jerrick’s world, where women lived through childbirth (shocker) and damaged children and families thrived. If they hadn’t, we wouldn’t be here. Modern medicine helps just as much as it hinders. And while I did find Jerrick’s defense a little flippant, more conversation and communication needed to occur. But two, because Jerrick had his own desires he was wrestling with long before his time leap. Therefore, this justification or excuse here just didn’t work and honestly, just wasn’t even necessary.
In conclusion, it was a fun ride in many ways, even with clueless, damaging familial ties, cheating, scheming exes and death scares. Ride or die friends, a new lease on life and fresh air go a long way. I did appreciate Jerrick’s personal ending conclusion. Although, I would have much rather him make his decision without all the emotional blackmail.
The epilogue was promising... who knows? But I certainly hope so.

Umm, the concept was okay but nothing I haven't read before. I liked Jett, but also hated that she was another dark skinned, not exactly plus sized woman who was insecure, or made to feel insecure about herself. Just *sigh* for once would it kill romance writers to write about a woman who knows she looks good and is confident? I'm sure there's an aversion to writing such a woman and having her come across as conceited or a bitch, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. That aside, this was a decent read.
I liked Jett and Jerrik and them as a couple. I think Jerrik adopted to life in the 21st century a little too easily. There might have been shieldmaidens back in the day, but I doubt Viking men were so progressive as not to still be sexist and misogynistic against women, but whatevs. I don't know, haven't studied the culture. It was also convenient how Jett knew someone who knew someone who could basically do carbon dating on Jerrik's clothing and sword to prove their authenticity, and that her best friend was fwb to a white collar criminal who could forge documents. In the end, this story followed the typical formula: girl is cheated on, moves, meets boy, sexual tension, girl denies wanting to bone or liking guy, they bone, girl is threatened/kidnapped/rescued, boy has to leave, girl gets pregnant, boy stays, they marry, the end.
This was a great read, i did not want it to end. The relationship building between Jerrick and Jett, Dez and Jett and all the other characters . This was well crafted and it showed. I did not want it to end and now I want to read about Dag.Twyla if you are reading this then Dag and Dez is the love story we deserve and is wild be nice for Jerrick to have some family around him.
Why did I give this book 5 stars? Because it’s from Bloody Twyla Turner and she’s my favourite author. Also, she literally CANNOT write a bad book. Ever. E V E R! So if you want a totally unbiased review of this book, continue reading below.
What did I LOVE about this book? Short answer, EVERYTHING. Long answer- E V E R Y T H I N G. The characters felt real. Their interactions/reactions were authentic especially in a time travel trope. And the character growth and development- *chef kiss* beautifully done. I absolutely LOVED (clearly this word is going to pop up a lot in this review, I’ll try to use other synonyms) Jett and Jerrick. Have we ever been given a more adorable couple? *swoons*
Quick side note here: Anyone else pictures Michaela Coel as Jett when they were reading this? No, just me? Cool cool cool. (Please don’t come at me telling me Jett is on the thicker side, I know, I read the book).
Back to the book- Jerrick was a book husband as book husbands come. Yeah, yeah, they’re not married YET, but they will be so I get to say that! He was tall, strong, defended the honour of his woman, protected his woman and had just a sprinkling of possessiveness to make me say, “I’m yours, daddy.” I bloody love me a smidgen of possessiveness. SEE: Smidgen, too much and you’ve got a sociopath on your hands. Plus, he was a LITERAL Viking!!! *fans face* as far as book husbands go, he ranks pretty high up there on my lust- LIST- I mean LIST.
I’m going to get so many side eyes for this, but I must go on. The way he handled her ex husband in the hotel room- judgement free zone- made me hot as hell. (JUDGEMENT FREEZONE!) Plus, the ex husband is just such an unlikable character! Speaking of unlikely characters, I wanted Nic to get so much more than what she did! She didn’t get enough in my opinion. I hated her and Shawn! Whew! That’s how you KNOW TT is a fantastic author. She made me feel such unadulterated loathing for the villains of the story. I wanted them to get their comeuppance and at times I wanted to reach through the pages of the book myself and mete out the punishment myself. Looking at you Gloria.
For all the positives and precious fuzzy feelings i had reading this book, I did feel like the race and colourism theme, though appropriate and integral to Jett’s personality, growth and development was a bit heavy handed. I feel as though it could have been integrated a bit more seamlessly into the story. They way it was done at times felt clunky and disjointed. I would have also appreciated if we were SHOWN it’s effects on her rather than TOLD. It came across as an exposition dump rather than a natural phenomenon that has occurred and still occurs to her.
Other than that, another fantastic story with fully fleshed out and hot characters, Ms. Turner. I LOVED the epilogue, because I love epilogues and I was happy that they all somewhat got closure. Plus I was in love with Thorin and Elle. Cannot wait to read all about Dag and his love o. The next instalment of this series!!
It was fate that brought Jerrik Rolfson to the 21st century. Jeanette “Jet” Johnson had been literally mentally tortured since childhood. She was a six-foot-tall, dark-skinned thick woman who was always picked over for her twin sister. Everyone told her she was ugly. Even her own mother preferred her sister Nicolette to her and would blame her for everything her sister Nic did wrong. Little did she know that he sister Nicolette was jealous of her and all she accomplished. The last straw was what her sister and husband did. She had to get away from her dysfunctional family.
Just when things were finally settling in her new life, this larger-than-life man enters into it claiming to be an 11th century Viking. Was he crazy or was it the truth? That was the question Jet needed to answer. This modern world was so different for Jerrik, but he was a quick study and learned a lot by watching TV. Jet never had a man to genuinely take interest in her. To Jerrik, she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. She was so different from any woman in his village where he was the laird. Each and every day, he broke down Jet’s walls as she was afraid to open herself to him for fear he’d leave and go back to his time. She could not survive another broken heart. His heart was hers and her heart was his. He would not live without her. But he had obligations to his village, his brothers, and his mother. This was their ongoing trial, to go back or stay. Would Jet come with him?
I loved this story. It kept me turning page after page just to see what would happen next. I just loved how Jet fought her fears of loving Jerrik and finally giving in to her heart. Jerrik was so patient with her. He was not what we believe to be the barbarian Vikings. He was so sweet with her. I loved them as a couple. All of their initial getting to know each other with Jet pushing away and Jerrik trying his best to break down her walls culminated in a very sexy and romantic hot as PHYRE loving relationship. And I loved Jet’s best friend Dez. She kept everything 100 and real. She was the perfect ride-or-die friend.
Twyla did a wonderful job with this book. We’ve read about Thorin and Jerrik, now what will Dag get into. He’s the only brother left and he’s filled with wanderlust.
Favorite Quote: “I’d break you, little girl. And why would I forsake a goddess for a peasant?” Jerrik turned to Jett, fully dismissing her twin sister. “Trust me, my love. In this time or another, there will never be anyone else.”
After reading three of Ms. Turner’s novels, I’ve realized the problem I have with each is the writing. I’m not a fan of her writing style or the developmental process of her characters. I do like the idea (well parts of it), but the execution just isn’t there for me.
There was a huge discontent. I didn’t feel invested in Jerrick returning to the past or staying in the future. Jett’s storyline was also...a lot. I feel like tackling such important issues like colorism and beauty standards (which honestly colorism is a form of a beauty standard), require much MORE than stating the issue. I wish Jett would have found beauty in herself without the validation of a man, although I did like Jerrick.
I enjoyed the message of dating “high quality men” compared to Shawn (gross) which needs to happen more often instead of being content with dust buckets. But I feel like there was too much happening. I either needed Shawn and Nic plotting on Jett with her new life in Maine with a man of this century. Or a full time travel plot minus the additional plot. Also, I feel like it’s a no brainer! If he sees the fog consistently coming back why can’t they just go back and forth? But idk maybe in another book she’ll explain this. Since this wasn’t a full out time travel novel I won’t get too upset about the inaccuracies about Viking culture or his assimilation into modern society, but that was lackluster if you’re looking for that.
Pregnancy loopholes are overdone but they can be done masterfully, that wasn’t the case here. Jett needs therapy not insta-love or a bargaining chip (the baby). The conflict shouldn’t have been leaving or staying, but Jerrick saying he was leaving because she can’t love herself.
Between the first book and this one, I’d prefer the first. Jerrick and Dez were a hoot though!
This was a decent read for a time travel storyline. Loved Jerrik, but he seemed unrealistically accepting of a lot of modern day customs, ways of life and too sweet with Jett and everybody else for an archaic 11th century Viking..esp considering his reaction initially which read more realistically. It was annoying that Jett had a problem with sleeping with a man she barely knew, sexing someone before divorce because of "society and religion", and having unprotected sex with said man constantly. Its VERY common for women to feel fine engaging in sex and relationships before divorce. But if you want to spin in that your heroine has certain beliefs, let her stand 10 toes down in it instead of blaming it on "society and religion" and follow through with it because they are women and men that have feel strongly about these topics because that is what THEY believe. Decent read but it just seemed contradictory and unrealistic in many ways. Would be mad if we saw Dags' story
Unfortunately Bound Through Time: Present did not live up to what I usually expect from this author. Her books tend to sizzle and move your heart while taking you on a wild ride . Book 1 was so much better, while this book showcasing Jerryk and Jett paled in comparison. You could easily tell how the plot was going to unfold. And Jerryk's assimilation into the 21st century was almost seamless, and as such, not very convincing. Jett on the other had serious self esteem issues and others had to continuously convince her of her beauty. Overall very disappointing.
Twyla Turner’s heroines annoy me. They all follow the same character arc and it is really becoming boring. I finished book very quickly because I skipped many of the “I was always ignored” and “Everyone thinks I’m ugly” and “I can’t have sex with this man because I am still married- even though he had sex with my twin sister” parts. Literally the same mindset of all of Turner’s other heroines and it’s old now. Unfortunately, this pattern means I won’t be reading any more of Turner’s books. The funny parts weren’t enough to keep me engaged in story.
This was boring until it got to a little pass half. I almost quit reading it. There were some funny parts, but still boring. I am glad Nicky went to jail and Shawn was erased. Dez was as crazy as all get out, but I loved her because she loved her friend. The reason it got three stars was because of the last part.
Ok so it was hot between Ellie and Thorin but Twyla turned up the heat with Jerrick. It’s funny because as soon as I finished book 1 I was thinking, what would it be like for a someone to travel forward in time. I think Twyla did a great job of navigating the situation. And Des brought a joy to the book. I loved this one.
Expected a different ending. I was hoping Jerrik and Jet went home and took crazy Dez with them.. Dez was hilarious loved her characters. It would have been great if Dez and Dag got together for the third book.
Uh, this wasn’t for me. Jett’s gaslighting didn’t do it for me. To me, it turned out that she was no different than the ones who abused her. Jerrick deserved better. Jett needs therapy, not a man.
I loved, loved the time travel romance of Jerrick and Jett. Jett is a 3rd grade teacher who has had a life full of being told she is less than. After she discovers her husband cheating on her with her twin sister, she relates to Maine for distance and healing. While on a walk near the local lighthouse she stumbles upon what appears to be a Viking longboat which contains an unconscious man. Jerrick is the jarl of his clan who was put into a funeral longboat after the recent battle in which he appeared dead due to paralyzing poison. Jett is the first thing he sees when he opens his eyes and he is instantly enthralled. Jerrick is diagnosed with an odd case of amnesia and Jett agrees to let him stay with her until he recovers his memory. Even as they grow closer, Jerrick plans to find the mysterious fog, leave Jett, and make his way home. This book has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, strong families, steamy times, real life issues, painful pasts, imperfect characters, high stress situations, and love. To get to their HEA, Jerrick will have to help Jett break down her walls and overcome her fear of love and pain in order to find joy and Jerrick will have to trust that his clan will do well without him so he can stay in the present. The story included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I am looking forward to reading the final book in the series.
Both Jerrick and Herts meet when Jerrick, a Viking Lord, is wounded in battle and his family, believing him dead, send him out to sea in a traditional Viking funeral but he is not read-only paralysed. It takes 21 century medicine to recognise his symptoms and bring him fully back to health. Sadly, Jerrick is stuck in the wrong century and there are humorous incidents along the way of how he adjusts to life in the 21st century. Oh and how can one miss out Jette, the second piece and wonderful protagonist in this story. It was Jette who found the Viking craft with Jerrick contained; it was Jette who called the ambulance service and accompanied him to the hospital and it was Jette who, albeit reluctantly, decided to take on the responsibility for looking after and helping Jerrick orient to life in 21st century Maine. The writer , Twyla Turner, whose books I have read since I started using a kindle, and I have loved every one . Sometimes, having read one of her books, I scold myself that I don't take the time to devour more and I berate myself that I leave it so long before I read the next book, but sometimes the emotional rollercoaster Ms.Turner puts you through means at the end of the journey, you are so exhausted in a wonderful way, well I turn to a light read just to bubble my heart a rest from the emotional somersault it has had to do.All I say is that it is a wonderful time travel story. The writer ensures that all questions which one would associate with time travel are cleverly answered. Ms Turner is a past master of suspense so tension and romance are explored and exploited beautifully. A fabulously thrilling read!!
I thought the first book with Thorin and Ellie was outstanding, but this one superseded book #1. Jerrik and Jett are an incredible pair and their story is just spectacular. Jett’s backstory dealt with contemporary and sensitive issues and was a great lead-in to her making her life changes. Jerrik’s arrival in the 21st century built on the opening of book one.
The humor in this story is just delightful, and Jerrik’s behavior as he adapted to life the 21st century is hysterical. His response to the racist man in the grocery store, the first time he saw people on TV and his adoption of contemporary vernacular (after watching television) was laugh out loud funny. Not to be outdone, Jett’s BFF Dez is a colorful character and strong female support.
You had solid antagonists with Shawn and Nic; they had their place but did not overwhelm the story. This was about Jerrik and Jett. The chemistry between them was excellent and the epilogue and ending had me in tears.
Such an enjoyable book. I hope Dag gets a story of his own too.
This is the second book in the Viking Brothers series and it was amazing. Here we meet Jett and Jerrick. Jett is a hardworking woman who was always cast aside, compared to her sister. Being a dark skinned black woman that it 6 feet tall, people judge her especially her mother. When Jett finds her sister and husband together she moves and starts a new life.
Jerrick who is a Viking from the 11th century is a man in the truest form. When he ends up in present day, Jett finds him and gives him a place to stay. Jett doesn’t believe he is from another century at first but soon realizes that he is.
Jett who is not used to men wanting her is in for a surprise because her beautiful Viking sees all of her beauty. Jerrick thinks she is the most beautiful woman and wants her to see that. He shows Jett how hard a man can love. There love was a beautiful journey where we see the past and the present.
Jett, tall dark and beautiful, decides to change her life, after catching her no-good husband in bed with her envious twin sister, who's made a lifetime of taking or spoiling everything Jett values. She makes a clean break, moving from NYC to coastal Maine.
And what to her wondering eyes does appear on her walk, but a Viking cosplayer, unconscious, in a partially burned up longboat. After getting the medical attention he needs, Jerrik is freaking the hospital staff out, calming only when Jett appears. Woo-boy, is he one tall sexy drink of water.
He has no where to go, no ID, so Jett decides to take him home with her, for now. Maybe he's delusional, maybe... he really IS from Iceland, circa about 1000 BC.
This novel is one of a trilogy, and while it works as a standalone, I did read it after the "Past" novel. Sexytimes are 1) HOT, 2) explicit, and 3) did I mention hot? Also, lots of humor.
Twyla had me wanting to move Maine to look for a Viking of my own. Loved Jerrik and Jett. Jett was ridiculed for the darkness of her skin and height, made to feel less than her lighter skinned model perfect twin by her Mother, the very twin and society as a whole until fate brought Jerrik to the 21st century. A cheating ex-husband added to the mix, added to Jett’s pain, a father who was inept in standing up for his pained daughter, although he tried to show Jett she was worthy of love wasn’t strong enough, often enough to go against his wife and other daughter. I was so happy when Jett received her HEA. I’m still smiling with the ending of this book.. now let’s see if Jerrik’s brother will get a story of his own.. and will it intertwine with Jerrik once again. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read
I really enjoyed reading this book. I was looking for something different and entertaining and I have found it.
Jerrick is a viking that was hurt in battle and assumed to nit be alieve. He is given a vikings burial.

She yook responsibilty for him since he had no identifying information. As they live together he learns about the 21st century and adapts, but would like to return to his time.
As their relationship developes they aee faced with tough decisons of their future.
Great story with some real life issues of betrayal by family who should love you, Jealousy, fear, low self-esteem and greed The other side the author gave us fantasy with time travel and a love story that will warm your heart MS Tyla did it again with great characters and great storyline Jerrick, the Viking was a true alpha and man of his word and Jhett deserved a man like that to love her for who she was to really see her It was a wonderful journey, you got a glimpse of the Viking world in 11th Century and you get to see a love blossom with two unlikely people who find each other in unusual circumstances Great book, get your copy, you won't be sorry I hope there will be a book about Dag next Derricks brother
