I got intrigued to learn more about Eleanor Roosevelt and her relationship with FDR after watching the PBS series Atlantic Crossing. This book does a great job of detailing the really hard upbringing of both of them - Eleanor losing both her parents early and FDR being raised by an overbearing mother - which causes them to have a loveless marriage and spend much of their lives searching for love. FDR with several of his secretaries and Eleanor with both men and women she admired. Eleanor comes off as an incredibly smart, determined, but unfortunately unhappy woman who I wished was living now so she could have more opportunities to pursue her dreams and happiness instead of having to just support her husband.
what an amazing and sad life... i was blown away away with all the work she did to help those in need... i was also shocked how sad her life was towards the end.
